  1. Generally, mods require the latest version of Skyrim, some are fine with the previous version (1.8.?). the thing is, if your internet connection is that slow, you aren't going to being doing much modding either; those have to be downloaded too

1.8? Whoah I'm way behind. I noticed that many of the mods I looked at are surprisingly tiny in size (most smaller than 1mb) which I am able to download.

So it seems I can't do any modding unless I update, which is a huge bummer. Thanks for commenting anyway

  2. Exactly why can't you update?

If you have the steam release, it even automatically updates the game to the latest version. As such, any and all mods only work with the latest Steam-updated version of Skyrim.

I have an agonisingly slow internet connection, and would take years to update. I opted against the automatically updating steam version for this reason. (I have the non steam version)

  3. Every mod I have checked - a total of about 10, granted, not that many - says nothing in the 'requirements' tab of the mod regarding skyrim version.

I have skyrim version 1.1 (Very old I know but can't update) and every mod I have tried installing has not worked, even though there is no version requirement on the mod page. These are some of the mods I installed that didn't work:
