  1. Im new to the game and I just made a character focused on using guns. However, Ive been finding that I never have enough ammo and end up pulling out my trusty baseball bat to fight enemies. This is an especially big problem since I frequently encounter super mutants in the wasteland, which are really annoying to kill. Also, I have a gun-based companion who burns out ammo very quickly and ends up fighting with a secondary melee weapon. Stimpacks tend to run out fast as well when dealing with super mutants (especially the ones with the miniguns). This is forcing me to simply run past all enemies on my way to a destination. Any ideas on how to keep myself well-stocked with supplies?
  2. I'm wondering, will this increase the occurrence of the RAM-capping crash due to all of the new, bigger textures being loaded when I run Oblivion? Also, does everything have to be installed in the order listed? It says to install QTP first, but unfortunately I have other aesthetic mods installed. Eh...I installed Python 2.6.5 to use with PyFFI (probably try optimizing some stuff). Now I have 2 versions of Python on my computer (2.5.2 from Wrye Python package). Should I just leave both of them there? Ok...Im pretty sure QTP will pwn my fps in imperial city, as its already mediocre right now.
  3. I have a 1GB GeForce 240 video card, and Im thinking about getting some form of Qarl's texture pack to make stuff look more awesome. But Im a bit concerned about impact on performance and stability since Im already running a pretty intensive set of mods and installing several GB of big texture files might push my system over the edge. Any advice on whether this would be a good idea?
  4. Yeah don't reply to such an ancient post lol. Ive completely reinstalled my game and reconfigured my mods since I posted that. weOCPS never really did much to prevent crashes for me on my old setup. Whenever the "crash prevented" sound played, my game would immediately crash afterward. On my new setup, RAM limitation seems to be the main problem. Also, is there a good texture pack that you would recommend? I saw that recently a new retexture mod was being released, and I was wondering if I should replace my vanilla world textures.
  5. Ok that worked fine, I got my FOV set to 90 now (for some reason setting FOV to 90 in oblivion.ini just causes weird crap to happen). As for OSR, Im beginning to believe that its the hashtable resizer, not the optional critical section, thats causing the instability. However, I havent done any prolonged tests so I cant be certain. Ill find out more the next time I play (probably in a few days as Im rather busy this week). Also, if you look at the comment thread for RefScope, Ive been having a weird problem with the mesh-less targeting token appearing in-game on some new characters (I made several new characters to test things, it appeared on a female argonian but not any of the others) that looks like a big "WTF? I have no mesh!" stuck to my hand.
  6. I dont see any problem with what you did. You just changed .bsa files from opening with no program to opening with oblivion. You can reset it back through control panel -> default programs -> set associations. The thing that it used to open with, "Windows Shell Common", is just a part of windows that handles unknown files and not a "regular mod program". It may be a bit unsightly, but it shouldnt affect how your game runs. You shouldnt have to open .bsa files anyways. If you do, you can always change the file association to the program you want.
  7. How do I reinitialize SL? (other than deactivating the ESP, saving, then activating it again)
  8. Ok lol, Ill leave it with the heap tweak and stop. Another thing, Streamline is ignoring part of my sl.ini. None of the changes I make in the miscellaneous section are taking effect. I have to actually access the main menu in-game to change them.
  9. I tried some of the changes listed in the readme's common tweaks. The tweaks were suppressing the optional critical section and dynamic hashtable resizing. Both resulted in crashes way before the memory cap was reached (both around 1.2 GB). As for the spell hostility thing, Im pretty sure some part of the Deadly Reflex scripting is causing it. Sometimes casting any kind of spell while facing an NPC causes their Deadly Reflex combat script to run. Ive had NPCs duck and shield bash me when I casted Minor Heal Wounds while facing them. In IC market recently, I got arrested with a 40 gold bounty after casting Minor Heal Wounds "at" someone. And...is there any way to minimize Oblivion? I can minimize other fullscreen games Ive played, but not Oblivion for some reason. I searched the site and found a mod called "3gb Enabler". Apparently its just LAA patch with instructions to make it work on 32 OS. Grrr...need to upgrade my RAM...Or is there a way to make it allocate 2.5/0.5 so it still stays within 3 GB?
  10. A few things I noticed: 1. Please use spoiler tags and Wrye Bash to post load order for easier reading 2. Don't use both Bob's Armory and Cheat Bob's Armory at the same time, pick one 3. You have a few FCOM compatibility patches for mods that dont seem to be installed In directory but not used 4. The mods involved in FCOM have many features, some of which should not be installed with FCOM or need specific compatibility patches in order to work (i.e. Fran's leveled quests). Read the install guide carefully for which plugins should be installed. 5. Make sure you have the Fran's compatible unofficial patch for SI Im not sure if these are causing that specific CTD, but cleaning these up may help.
  11. D: I dont have any idea what any of this stuff means: EDIT: Also, I noticed in the readme that it says that the default spin value provided for critical sections (1000) may be a bit small, and the ideal value increases with the number of cores/hardware threads. Since I have a quad-core computer, should I increase this? And if so, what would be a reasonable amount to increase it to?
  12. Alright, Im gonna try replacing the heap with one of the custom ones and Im enabling profiling so I can see how well it does. I may choose to switch heaps now and then and compare the results. Supposedly this should make stuff run better...
  13. Ive installed a lot of the optimization and Ive looked over the stabilization stuff. It seems like that crash was just a freak accident because I managed to run the game fine afterward. However I eventually crashed due to memory capping out (it was at 1.7 GB). Is there any way to reduce the occurrence of these crashes without having a 64 bit OS and 4 GB RAM (needed for LAA patch)?
  14. It sounds like youre missing graphical files needed for the mod. Look through the mod you downloaded and find folders named meshes, textures, sound, etc. These need to be installed along with the mod's ESPs/ESMs. If you use a tool like OBMM (Oblivion Mod Manager), it will make sure all of the files are installed correctly (if the mod is downloaded in OMOD format or comes with conversion data). EDIT: Eh...a bit late. And btw, make sure the meshes and textures folders are in the Data folder, not the oblivion directory.
  15. I was heading west from Weye when the crash happened. Not sure why it happened because havent changed my mods except for adding bash tweaks and some new meshes/textures. Ofc, the problem may have existed before, but just not presented itself.
  16. On a side note, I just crashed twice in 30 mins. D: something is up. EDIT: Those crashes were rather mysterious. One was when I used companion share and one was when I was just walking on the road. After reloading my save, I checked my companion's inventory and found nothing unusual, and I managed to walk down the same stretch of road with no problems. Afterward I even went into and closed an oblivion gate and everything went fine...
  17. It already came with the C. Water tag on it. According to the description, the water level should be the only thing that it changes.
  18. No, it was a tweak included with BC: Better Cities - No LEYAWIIN Flooding.esp :P I read a lot of the Wrye Bash readme last night lol. Added ~8 MB to my bashed patch size with stuff like DarNified books, COBL catalog update, and renamed items for sorting.
  19. I ran the game and played a whole session without encountering a crash, so Im not gonna try to mess with BAIN and stuff. Ive also been using more of the Bashed Patch features to replace some unnecessary mods. Im just wondering, should I go ahead and import minor mods with Bash tags? For example I have a BC tweak that lowers the water level in Leyawiin. Would it be safe to deactivate it and select it for Import Cells in Bash? (its marked with C. Water) That way I could lower my file count even more.
  20. Recently I came across the mod RefScope and I really liked the idea of being able to highlight a target and examine it for information. However, RefScope provides more technical information aiding in debugging mods, and information can be freely acquired. I think it would be cool if an examining system was made to provide relevant game information about a target, but with some limitations to keep it balanced. Perhaps the player could hold down the "Examine" key and select an actor to view information such as level, health, magicka, fatigue, fighting style, etc. to help plan fighting encounters. However, the amount of information acquired would be based on the stats of the player calculated against the stats of the target. This way it would be easier to view the stats of weaker opponents than stronger ones, to prevent the feature from being overpowered. The same concept could be applied to objects such as containers. With high enough skill, a player could peer into a locked container and determine what types of items are inside, item weight, or perhaps he/she could determine the identity of one of the items. Or maybe a person could determine with enough skill what key is needed to open a certain door or chest. Just throwing some ideas out there, tell me what you guys think of it.
  21. its included in the Unofficial Oblivion Patch - you need this anyways That explains why Bash only found 4 cells that needed fixing :) Hmm forgot to disable SL, save, then re-enable after patching it up. Noticed that when I walked into an area and for some reason my fps was really bad; SL wasnt working *facepalm*
  22. Yeah I actually patched this one, unlike Streamline :P. Im just thinking maybe the edits to make scripted attacks hostile carried over to scripted spells as well (ofc I dont know how this all works :P). Btw, I see a lot about using BAIN to install mods in your guides. But, I never really understood how to set up BAIN. The readme says to store packages in the "Oblivion Mods\Bash Installers" directory. The problem is, Im not sure where to put that directory (under oblivion install directory? under "mopy"?). EDIT: Nvm I tried using "Open" and Bash kindly told me where my Oblivion Mods folder wasnt found :P
  23. Hmmm...it seems that only some scripted spells sometimes get counted as assault. If it turns out to not be from FCOM, I would suspect Deadly Reflex, as its the only other mod that is likely to have lots of script-related changes. It also has scripted attacks that count as crimes, so idk if its related to that. I cant remember off the top of my head if I had DR installed when the script spell still worked...
  24. Just patched Streamline, hopefully this improves stability and such. Which black screen fix should I use? The one built into Wrye Bash?
