The nVidia drivers are actually creating problems. For instance, the version that added Ambient Occlusion (SSAO) support for Skyrim, also made it very slow and increased the load times.
I think nVidia and AMD/ATI are under so much pressure due to recent releases of high-profile AAA games, that they are releasing drivers without testing them properly.
