Steam and Bethesda remove paid modding from Skyrim Workshop

In response to post #24782074. #24783184 is also a reply to the same post. @bullpcp Mutually beneficial to modders and Bethesda at the expense of end users who would have to pay 4 times the price... right. Bethesda got an insane number of sales from an extensively modded game. Valve would provide nothing new. Those 3$ paid from every 4$ would come from the customer's pockets. I know you're ok with that. They weren't so they protested. -

In response to post #24783529. Yes, a wake-up call. Provide something for free without any remorse for years, and the moment someone wags a huge wad of cash under your nose, yell and demand that you want instant recompensation for your work, never mind the artificially inflated prices which make it 4 times bigger for the end user. Then call these users "entitled assholes" for not wanting to pay 4 times the cash to corporate coffers for items that had a lot of problems from the beginning. -

And it's easy to play the "you don't have to buy it" card when you take existing mods and put them behind a paywall. Essentially denying people future updates and taking their save games hostage. Just sayin'. -

It's also bad that he tried to sell something based on other's work in a community that's built on sharing. And he clearly knew what he was doing, but thought "oh, what the hell, maybe I can get away with it". -

In response to post #24755029. #24755484 is also a reply to the same post. They had so many downloads and endorsements that they were personaly approched by Valve and Bethesda to take part in their clandestine operation. Do you think, who gave them those downloads and endorsements? The "entitled" people of the community did. Sure they does great work (albeit I personally don't like SkyUI). Would I pay 1$ for their work? Yes I would. Would I pay 4$, including 3$ for Bethesda and Valve? No way in hell. I'll prove it next week when I'll get my salary - I'll donate to my favourite authors. -

In response to post #24754399. So he should be able to reach to our hard drives and remove content from them every time he is upset about something? :P That's not an extremely petty and childish thing to do at all. -

In response to post #24746229. Chesko is no hero. He tried to sell a mod knowing it was based on somebody else's work and thought "eh, maybe nobody will catch me at this". Does that sound ethical to you (even if he was assured it was legal)? He also deleted my comment about using FNIS, so I have reasons to believe he wasn't acting in good faith at all. So Chesko trying to profit from someone else's work makes him a hero according to you? :P As for "entitlement" - you are perfectly ok with users paying 4 TIMES the price just to satisfy Bethesda and Valve's coffers, I am not. That's not about giving modders back. It is not justice. This was a scam, pure and simple. Should modders be paid for their work? Why not. But should Valve and Bethesda be paid 3 times more from the user's pockets? No way in hell. Damn you too :P -

The guy from Fishing Animations even deleted my comment about using FNIS' content... which was polite and factual, but got deleted because the developer didn't like it. And they even actively hide rating if it's one star!

You can check it in its comments if you don't believe me. Cash doesn't go to you, but to your SteaM Vallet. And it takes some days to do so. I'm still waiting. Also the mod was very small so I was able to test and debug all in about 15 minutes. I don't see it happening with large quest mods so much (for obvious reasons). Also I'm a paying customer for a product now (especially since my cash is locked down at the moment). I think I *can* offer some criticism :P

Wait until you see the comments from actual users (customers), who bought the mod and something didn't work... But what is the worst here is paid mods based on other people's work. Like animations requiring FNIS or SKSE. This is an extremely bad precedent, because in the future either: - people will release only paid for frameworks - people will profit from someone else's free frameworks Both things will have capacity to end modding community as we know it. -

Well, Valve did it for one thing: to get a cut out of this. What do they provide? Nothing. Mods won't be regulated, they just get a big cut for doing nothing. And with possible mod conflicts, bugs and stuff, I predict that paid mod makers are in for a large headache. If people pay for their products, imagine angry customers when something doesn't work. Congratulations, they've become vendors, not artists, with full responsibility.
