Michlo - THE POINT is that I've already played this game through to Dragonslayer a few times and really don't care to 'develop' my character in the early stages - better to get an experienced character and go quickly through the first few adventures. Also, this approach gives you total flexability in what your character is and what your character will be capable of doing. The god mode plus money quote elsewhere is also missing the point. The OTHER point is simply this is my game and I enjoy it much more when it plays the way I want it to, and allows me to mess with it, expects me to mess with it through the console, and thereby doubling even tripling my enjoyment. The console allows you to be your own Dungeonmaster! That's why I like developing bat files for the Bethesda game family - it's part of the experience/fun/ Thanks for commenting.

No longer able to absorb dragon souls - any ideas on causes? Nord level 20, just beginning this character really Thanks.

After 150 hours of playing and starting over several times, I came up with a lot of batch files to help me; the best one I've written is this file - a run-once file - it sets you up after you start. I've created other files from it just for refreshing supplies, but this sets you up well. SEE BELOW. It gives - money, lockpicks, potions of restores, arrows, gems - 2-each of most ebony items -easily changed if Ebony ain't your Ivory - set the heatlth/magic/stamina to 600 - easy to remove if too much - set all resistances to 100 - slowed down the passage of game time - increased player speed - increase killcuts (only runs when you get a critical/kill hit anyway) - gave 1000 enchantments - this does not work as you may think - it counts as enchantments done; if it were 1HD weapons, it would equal 1000 HITS with the sword, not swings. This worked out to getting all of the enchantment perks with 3 perks left over, brings a 1st level character to 17 - modified permanently the carry/inventory so that it's never a problem, always in negative numbers; within reason. - reduced cooldown time for shouts to zero; why wait? So this would be a great file to run once you have access to an alter. If you don't know how to do this, you are on your own; however, copy what is in between the "====" lines and paste into Notepad - not Wordpad, not Word, use Notepad or a plain vanilla ASCII editor. give it a simple name like "runonce.txt" and save it to your Skyrim directory, not the Data directory. within the game hit "~" type "bat runonce" (if that is what you named it) hit "~" done. Play with the concept, it's YOUR game! ==================== player.additem 0000000f 50000 //money player.additem 0000000a 150 //picks player.additem 00039be4 50 //heal player.additem 0003eae6 50 //stamina player.additem 00039be7 50 //magicka player.additem 000f84b2 50 //invis+heal player.additem 000eafdf 500 //nord hero arrow player.additem 0002E4FC 50 //soul player.additem 0002E504 50 //black player.additem 000139ab 2 //ax player.additem 000139ad 2 //bow player.additem 000139b0 2 //mace player.additem 000139b1 2//sword player.additem 000139b3 2 //warax player.additem 00013961 2 //cuirass player.additem 00013960 2 //boots player.additem 00013963 2 //helm player.additem 00013964 2 //shield player.additem 000f6f23 2 //gloves steel player.additem 0001394e 2 //gloves dwarf player.additem 000139c0 100 //daedric arr player.additem 00039be5 1 //ult heal player.additem 00039be7 1 //ult mag player.additem 00039cf3 1 //ult stam player.setav Health 600 player.setav Magicka 600 player.setav Stamina 600 player.modav DamageResist 100 player.modav PoisonResist 100 player.modav FireResist 100 player.modav ElectricResist 100 player.modav FrostResist 100 player.modav MagicResist 100 player.modav DiseaseResist 100 player.modav HealRateMult 100 player.modav MagickaRateMult 100 player.modav StaminaRateMult 100 set timescale to 2 player.modav speedmult 200 set decapitationchance to 100 set killmoverandom to 100 player.advskill enchanting 1000 player.modav CarryWeight -2000 player.modav InventoryWeight -3000 player.setav shoutrecoverymult 0 ==================== You are responsible for running this, not me; I say, don't do it if you are afraid of making your game unstable. This is better for players who have played a lot but don't want to go through hours of playing just to get to a decent leveled character with some self-sustaining abilities. If Enchanting is not your thing, then you might want to experiment with values for other skill modifications. Happy Dungeoning.

After over 120 hours I can tell you this is the best PLAYING game in the series and the ABSOLUTE WORST MENU INTERFACE in the history of RPG. Designed by morons and approved by idiots. I LOVE this game. I UTTERLY ABSOLUTELY HATE THE MENU INTERFACE - disgraceful - - no sorting - no consistency - when is a left-click really a left click - non-mappable keys? Ridiculous - RIDICULOUS in so many ways, I get tongue-tied trying to type them all out - no access to ANY stats, other than weight and damage and price - no levels, no hit points - sure there's a list of some in the HELP menu... - open holes in a menu interface? - click to the left of WEAPONS - closes the window. - can't remap the E key? - one time R takes one, one time R takes all - a perk menu to piss off even Ghandi - no control, no overview, no details, takes forever, just trying to control the mouse cursor is a nightmare Didn't ANYBODY there ever play FO3NV? The PERFECT INTERFACE - PERFECT - you never think about what to do or how to do it, it just happens for you - ===FINAL EVALUATION:=== I LOVE playing this game; the only time I HATE it is when I have to INTERACT with it.

"still want to know if i will be able to kill more dragons when ive finished the game! " When you WHAT? There better NOT be and end to this game! That's why I got it! Never ends!

I am so mad and disappointed at skyrim...
ICERAY2000 replied to GodKingVivec's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Let me sese if I understand this - you are ANGRY at not having access to all of the game all at once, at some point,; so if that tiny, insignificant detail, easily fixed with a quick trip to the console, tell me how the moronic interface makes you feel. Want to complain about something, complain about: left-click is right click - sometimes Only sometimes a left click IS a left click or R in the chest side of a menu gets you ALL when an R on the backpack side Stores an item clicking to the left of a category closes the menu remap the E key and never learn to read! Have you watched the way the item list jumps when you pick from it? Now THESE are things worth complaining about; not being GOD in the game, when you CAN be - ~TGM - is just silly. -
I have placed the crystal in all the containers; twice, cooking it every time, and the first two times it said keep going. Now the journal says place the final time, but not matter what I do, save before/after, take the crystal to another location, cook it longer and longer, it will not recognize that this should be the final 'baking'. And suggestions would be helpful.
-
I find the journal next to useless anyway; it is a dribble of the information and knowledge you acquire during the game - compared to Oblivion, it is embarrassing. I don;t see how a compass is not immersive; they are real you know! The REAL immersion problem is the interface - you can't get immersed in a game that you cannot control. Left is right, right is left, well sometimes; menus with holes in them; on and on with the interface problems. I find myself completely immersed until I actually have to do something other than run and fight. Immersion would mean you didn't spend frustrating extra minutes flying by selections in the perk menu - anyone that has played FO3NV knows what the perfect perk interface looks like, and Bethesda made it! With an interface like that, get in- do your business - get out, it would be much more immersive. At least as a PC player I can look forward to years of playing the community's MODs to correct the minions of errors in the game and get it to the point where immersion is really possible, so that you play and think about the mechanics. I would call Skyrim pre-immersive.

HERE's the problem - since the window is a LOCKED window it doesn't show a ligit url - oh, there's one in the header of the window, but it's bogus. Got another one today. I guess the owners of this site just don't care hoe ANNOYED THEIR USERS CAN GET! I can't get the window to close - I'm typing behind it now. This one is from Argentina! I have a screenshot I will post. If there is a better way to drive away traffic and users, I haven't heard of it, so I hope they can do something. ICERAY2000

Two days in a row now when I've clicked on the Top 100 link my browser is hijacked by a full browser ad claiming I'm a winner. Can't close the window, can't escape out of it, and I'm nor clicking through on anything that a mouse hover won't reveal the hyperlink, so I Ctrl/Alt/Del out and kill the page but the whole browser is shut down. A full screen ad that there is no way OUT of? I doth protest.

I wanted to post this apology to STEAM. A while back I was overly critical of them in a post, based on previous experience with Half Life2. That has changed. I was given FONV by a friend and after registering and playing for a while, I explored their online services, and even bought more software. I had one issue which they addressed quickly, and so far play has been flawless for a half dozen games now in my library. I was wrong, STEAM has really gotten their act together and I am glad I had the opportunity to revisit them. So for anyone out there who has concerns about STEAM as a provider, I suggest you go ahead, you won't be sorry and you will be so grateful you don't have the "secure rom" problems of FO3 (my copy never ran until I patched it twice.) Now I've got it all! FO3 AND FONV! Gaming pleasure for life! Plus great diversions when I need a break from the radiation.

Spot on! Totally agree.

You can't be serious - for the minuscule time it would take to uniquely name a readme file you are trying to claim that is just too much work for the modder to handle? Versus the thousands of users that have to do it for them? How hard is it for the mod creator to type "readme-mod1234.txt" Really. Finally I would say that one of the primary goals of a modder is in fact "spending their time so that the user doesn't have to do anything but play it and enjoy it." That's why they write the MODs. For us. To enjoy. So we don't have to. I personally couldn't write a MOD if my life depended on it, so I use theirs, and I try to help by providing feedback, and expressing my appreciation for what they do, and enjoying the hell out of the great ones.
-
While you are correct that readme.txt files have been around for decades, the difference here is that the readme's that you refer to were not dumped into a shared folder, but were set into their own unique folder along with the programs to which they referred; here we have ALL the readme's going into the same \Data folder, and overwriting the previous one. In this case, where a common folder is shared for many MODs, it's just common sense to give them a unique name. Someone else suggested that it's no problem since they are in the ZIP and online, but that is just the essence of the problem; if they had a properly formatted name, you wouldn't need to open a ZIP or fire up your browser, you could just click and read it. Lazy? No, respectful; perhaps that's a lost concept these days, but compare the single effort it takes to just give the readme a unique name when creating it, compared to all the efforts needed by every player to locate, open and read the file; fix it once, use it always; easy concept. As for the drag n drop you refer to, you identify the very problem that frustrates so many users: "provided that the author have provided <<regular pathing structures>> in his .rar," This is hardly the case. I have many times gotten bad results from just trusting the ZIP/RAR skills of a modder, and I get \Data\Fallout3\data\modname\texture, etc. Having played Oblivion for years I am completely gunshy of all MOD pathing structures, and dump every one into a temp folder first to prevent them from trashing my file structure. Having a well-named readme is part of that as well. You know as well as anyone that the pathing structure is not immediately evident in the program's display in default mode. I say don't trust it, extract it elsewhere first.

According to Gamespot, to briefly quote from the review posted there: "The Good * Incredibly huge and detailed world, loaded with stuff to do * Side quests are mostly terrific and brimming with personality * Faction reputation system leads to incredible flexibility * Great atmosphere, in and out of the Vegas Strip * Your choices have palpable consequences. The Bad * Occasional glitches and performance issues * Some quests are not enjoyable * Main story isn't compelling." What have you heard?

STEAM? REALLY? I'm out - how about you
ICERAY2000 replied to ICERAY2000's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
As the song says, "Don't worry, be Happy!" I asked that one because I read a "rumor" that there will be issues with MODS done the way they are for FO3, in that STEAM may not be able to support them. It was aimed at STEAM, not at your happiness! -

HA! TRY $60.00 for the PC! I'm soooo not going there. -
patch game to 1.7! MUST HAVES: FOSE & FOMM as linked above - absolutely essential. Everyone has a list; depends what you want your game to evolve into. You can be an explorer, a shooter, a collector, a hero, a villain, on and on. Check the most popular downloads, the most endorsed, and more importantly, READ all the help files and use FOMM to install your MODS whenever possible, and don't be afraid to ask for help, there's thousands of helpful people here that can get you going. Personally I like Calibr, eXcalibr, 20th century weapons, quickstart (great for starting that 2nd, 3rd etc character), Abode is great as it is a storage area always accessible so you aren't constantly returning to Megaton to sell off your found stuff, 999lb limit, 100REPT traders - gets your stuff fixed to 100%, Advanced Recon Gear if your into stealth, CREBSOR - allows you to get past the ending of main quest, Megaton Basement is a nice addition to your Megaton house, Marts Mutant Mod if you like to shoot a lot, and Speech, Hack and Max level - great for 2nd, 3rd. etc times through as it hacks the computers for you, raises your speech chance to influence, and takes off the cap level if you just want to keep playing. That'll get you started.

Please share your thoughts on having a steam overlay - take the poll!

It would be helpful if there was more standardization in the MOD presentation files; for instance: * all 'readme.txt' files should NOT be named that, as they overwrite each other upon decompression. *How about the MOD name always be part of the file name? *How about agreeing where the MOD files decompress to; it still seems to be hit-or-miss; files end up in \data\data, etc. *Since FOSE and FOMM (sorry for initials) are so standard, why not a standard packaging utility? *Your ideas here? Just trying to make the modding experience less error prone and time consuming so we can all play the game more! Thanks.

FO3 Uninstall - uninstalls Nothing!
ICERAY2000 replied to ICERAY2000's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
p.s. The program will run from the disk after you patch it - I'm not sure which patch fixes it; I've used 1.7 lately with total success in eliminating the 'no you can't run this' message; also FOSE and FOMM for you alphabet groupies out there will insure that it launches. -
FO3 Uninstall - uninstalls Nothing!
ICERAY2000 replied to ICERAY2000's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
Hmmm - I don't think so, but that's interesting - I thought UAC began with Vista, and I'm on XP, but it's SP3, so it may have been patched in. However, this is the ONLY occurrence of an uninstall not doing anything - all other programs will at least take out the executables and related files - this one just smiles at you and changes nothing. Here's what I think happens - and I'll try not to swear or use bad language - the #$%^&@! protection program - well that didn't last too long - the secure-whatever piece of garbage that installs over the GOTY PC version is such a terrible program that it will not let you access the program; all attempts trigger the - HA YOU'RE A PIRATE - response and directs you to their site where they require all this info; then you wait days, then they email you this smug little "oh you're such an idiot" message and point you to a site that practically wants you to rebuild your system so their "protection" anti-piracy software will run on your PC. So after tearing out what little hair I have left, in all subsequent installs, I just navigate to the DVD and run the install.exe directly (hey, I should transfer it to my HDD and install it from there - faster too!) So maybe there's some registry key still 'protecting me' - perhaps the manual install is untouchable by the DVD's uninstall without the secure-rom thing present. Still, has no one else experienced this? Thanks for the response, Fonger; no one cares anyway, they're all defecting to Last Vegas, but not me! I'm staying in the DC area until I've turned over every rock, shot every weapon at every creature and wandered through every lost city, shack and cave. -
FOOK 2 load order message
ICERAY2000 replied to ICERAY2000's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
Well.... I tried a complete re-install and it was working fine until I tried to change the load screens by swapping a single identically named file with an original load screen... anyway, started over again with a completely new install. Will build up slowly with MODs and try to just avoid FOOK. -
Fallout 3 Won't Run with Mods Installed
ICERAY2000 replied to phantomgamerz's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
My personal experience with STEAM left me steaming. I will not run any game that requires it again. I didn't read the other responses, so my only advice would be to make sure you are upgraded to 1.7 patch, and the latest Fallout Mod Manager - use the suggested load order function --and FOSE. You may need to totally uninstall everything, check to make sure it is ACTUALLY gone, then reboot and try it all over again. Welcome to the wonderful world of modding...
