  1. Personally I can't stand the new site layout. I hope to be able to keep using the old version for as long as it's humanly possible. It's easier to sue, more intuitive and less of an eyesore.

If this site had looked like this when FO4 came out, I would never have modded any games. Not only is the layout/colors/etc, an eyesore, but it is significantly harder to get to meaningful information. What was once readily available with a simple mouse over now requires digging 2 or 3 levels deep into the mod in question to get to that data. To make my point as unambiguous as possible. if ANY other site hosts mods that I am interested in using not only will I most likely choose them over this, but should it turn out that their site is even less user friendly to use, I will most likely tough it out secure in the knowledge that they won't be forsaking a working, comfortable and easy to use design for whatever this mess is that you've unilaterally forced upon the users here. As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Seriously, when I first got into modding it was intimidating, the fear of messing up the game was palpable. It was only the open natured-design and the wealth of easily available information that encouraged me to try. If, back then, I had encountered this mess, I would never have given modding a second thought and would still be playing only vanilla games. To say this forced redesign is discouraging is an understatement. What is not, however, is the damper is has placed on my desire to continue exploring the formerly fascinating world of Modding.

  2. To retype what I already had (stupid keyboard)...

    1) I don't like that you can't hover the mouse pointer over the other trending files and get info on them. Having to click the file and go to that page seems like a) too many steps, and b) an underhanded way to load more ads/increase page view count by forcing the user to load another page rather than simply doing it the old way.

    2) Why doesn't the "revert to the old style" button take you back to where you were (you know, just like using the "back" button)? Both the check out the new style and the "He** no take me back to the style I've spent years learning how to navigate so thoroughly that I can do it by reflex and without conscious thought style" take you to the main "pick your poison..err game" page. I don't know about anyone else but for me, I've got separate bookmarks that take me to the specific parts of the nexus I need for each individual game. (Ie, a bookmark for Fallout 4, one for Skyrim (old style), one for the new skyrim, Fallout 3, New Vegas, etc) being dumped into the "sort through this to find the game you're interested in" menu is a bit jarring.

    3) I'm using a 55" 4k TV as a monitor (Hey, I'm old, my vision isn't what it used to be) and even so the fonts seem to be too narrow/thin to read well.

    4) The layout is just weird. Why put the news all the way at the bottom? It's NEWS. Shouldn't it be a bit more prominent than say, "Media"? (Which is what? Users pics/videos?) Again, speaking strictly for myself, I come to the specific section, check the trending files, then click on the latest files link to see what's new/interesting. Easily done from the same screen, no scrolling needed. Want to see the master list of file categories? Links to the various points of interest for this part of the site? Look no further than the top of the page. Again, no need to scroll anywhere. Everything is conveniently placed on the screen for the user too see as soon as the page loads. Maybe it's just me, but it seems to me that you would want a site that easy for the users to use/navigate. This new layout adds several unnecessary steps and delays to the process.

So to echo what crimsonrider and many others have said, I'll stick with the old style until it is no longer available or an option and then...well, who knows.

I personally tend to spend 30 minutes to an hour browsing thru mods and tutorials on any given day.
Not only can ads slow your loading time but for those who are browsing via mobile they eat up tons of data and even for broadband connections that can take up enormous amounts of bandwidth (fortunately not a problem on this web site) so much so that you often can't even open another webpage while you wait for the first to finish.
Add to this what I consider the plague of the advertising industry the auto-play video adverts. Long loading time, tons of data and bandwidth often with no way to pause or skip and some constantly pull the focus of the webpage to the ad forcing you to watch it until it runs it's course (I encounter that one on this site far to often when I browse from my work PC which has no ad blocking software).
And then there is the concern with cookies. While they *may* not contain any personally identifiable information, they can do other things. Many if not most internet security agencies routinely warn people to clear their cookie cache between websites when browsing for travel plans as it has been shown many times that quite a few companies do in fact increase the price of fares and accommodations for users with travel site cookies still in their cache. And while I seriously doubt there's any company or organization that feels they need to charge me more/differently because I'm comfortable enough with technology to mods games you never know, some tech site or software agency may one day decide to. There are already conspiracy theories that Microsoft is slowly changing Windows in an effort to thwart/break Steam so it's not *really* too far outside the realm of possibility.
I do see the need for sites to post adverts and I understand that they have a need and purpose. However, the bottom line is that I value my time and my privacy (not to mention my computer) more. If a less intrusive way could be found to place the ads then sure I'd give it a go but until they stop forcing their way to the forefront of what I'm trying to find/do online then I don't see an end to the cycle.
Athralsatar wrote: Then pay for premium. I'm not sure if you realize but this site costs them a lot of money to run. Ads are one way to pay for it. The other is subscriptions. When you have a nexusmods subscription the ads are gone.

Not sure what you mean by subscription but I did become a supporter about 5 seconds after writing my initial post, figured I needed to put my money where my mouth was.

  5. So last night I had zero problems everything was running fine. Updated a few mods to the latest release called it a night. Today I can enter other hearthfire homes but when I try to enter Heljarchen or Lakeview I get an almost instant CTD. I can hear the beginnings of a sentenced from my Housecarl before the CTD happens. In the Load list there is a screenshot of the interior of Heljarchen for that save. I tried both mass and individual deactivations of every mod I either added or updated. I'm running the same version of Loot I was running yesterday with the same masterlist id (f4702d incase anyone is curious). To further complicate things, I have no trouble at all entering Windstad (Which is where my spouse is). Moving the spouse to Heljarchen let me get about 10 steps in the door before the CTD and attempting to load that autosave results in a CTD as well.

If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate the help.

That way, you can be sure that USSEP's bug fixes don't get undone because your mod was built for a "vanilla" SE. And really, since SE includes the dlcs, there's no reason for people not to use USSEP. That is, unless you plan on having your mods available on PS4, where USSEP isn't allowed.
TLDR: Unless you really want to include PS4 players, build your mods off of USSEP so they're of the utmost quality.

For the last time: WHAT YOU ARE REQUESTING IS BOTH ILLEGAL AND CYBER HARASSMENT. Per Nexus, Steam, and Bethesda's new forum/policies IT IS ILLEGAL TO UPLOAD ANY MODDED CONTENT OF WHICH YOU ARE NOT THE ORIGINAL MOD AUTHOR. IT IS ALSO THEREFORE ILLEGAL TO REQUEST SOMEONE ELSE PORT SAID MOD(S) TO THE NEW BETHESDA FORURM.

Either of these actions will most likely earn you a forum ban from not only Nexus and Bethesda but Steam as well Because your Steam account is now back linked to the new Bethesda site. That was done to prohibit mod theft. Which you seem so intent on promoting.

Instead of belittling commenters with half-correct statements, it would make the community as a whole better to properly inform them. And there is nothing in the terms on any site stating against making porting requests, as long as either the original author or someone permitted does it. I find your ignorance displeasing.

Instead we still have the ability to manually install the mods we want. The fact the NMM isn't fully working is sad, but saying the team wasn't well prepared is a bit... ahm... wrong :).

Speaking as a novice here and based on my limited experience with FO4, I dislike the "drag and drop" method as it doesn't keep up with the Mod updates. Granted that's not normally a big issue, but once upon a time I Drug and dropped AWKCR from FO4 and a few days later couldn't figure out why the site version was so much higher than my NMM version even though NMM was not flagging it as outdated.
Based on what I've read in the forums I'm "assuming" that's a NMM issue but to a neophyte modder such as myself (ahem, mod user let's be real) that's not an assumption I'm willing to bet the better half of a day to repair/redownload mods to fix if I'm wrong. Given how well everything here just seems to work (Kudo's to the staff and programs of the site BTW) when something doesn't, those of us who don't know better just assume it doesn't work because it's not supposed to.
  8. I recently deleted and re-installed everything having to do with Fallout 4 only to discover that several of my favorite mods are now being hidden by the author for an undisclosed reason. Am I pretty much SOL here? Or is there some way to reacquire them?

    Mods in question are:

Floor Perfectionist (I can replicate that by holding down the Q ( or is it the E) key but the mod is still easier)

    Vanilla Floors allow indoor walls

    Center snap point for stairs

    Flatwall doorways and windows

I'm 99% certain they are all by the same Mod author (searching for these mods on other sites turns up the author's name as "ModLurker" but no such author exists here. I'd rather get them from the author him/herself but am at a loss as to how to contact them.

Alternatively, if am I indeed SOL, can someone recommend an in depth tutorial for a complete modding newbie? (I've deduced that as these mods involve altering the snap points NifSkope will be needed but have zero idea how to use it.)

And finally, assuming that I can replicate these (and that's a huge assumption!) what is the etiquette on posting said recreations taking into account there appears to be no way to contact the author?

Thanks for any replies and recommendations.

  9. So, as it turns out, when you check the update to mods button in NMM it does not, in fact, clue you into the existence of the optional files such as "Armorsmith Extended - Armorsmith Far Harbor DLC v3.02 v3". LOL. Lesson learned on my part then. Thanks for all your help earlier. Pardon me while I go equip my VATS enabled MK5 ballistic weave inserted Pirate Hat  .

  10. Okay, here's where I stand now...

According to LOOT your mod is about halfway into the order, according to NMM it's at the bottom.

In the Armorsmith bench I can make the pirate hat and see it in the pipboy inventory and from the weaponsmith bench I can make a harpoon gun (which shows up in inventory as "Harpoon Gun Harpoon Gun" (Actually it always shows up like that all the time not just when I make it).

From a regular weapon bench I can see. Mod, and scrap the Harpoon gun.

Cannot see the pirate hat from the Armor workbench.

I've tried loading from the Fallout4.exe directly, the F4SE directly and from NMM.

My Plugins.txt is dated 4/28 and doesn't show half the mods I constantly use in game and my DLCplugins.txt does not show far harbor at all.

And I reinstalled AWKCR, Crafting workbenches, and your mod to ensure they are the latest versions.

So, to sum up, I'm lost. Any thoughts?

  11. None of the armor I've found in Far Harbor shows up in my armor work bench. It shows up in the pipboy iinventory but that's it. I found a cool pirate hat I wanted to tweak to wear with the Silver Shroud costume but I can't get it to show up in an armor workbench,

So, I do have the most current AWKCR, Armorsmith Extended, CBBE, Bodyslide, concealed armor (with both the Automatron and Far Harbor patches), craftable armor size, Settlement keywords Expanded and Homemaker (I mention because they alter the workshop menu?)

    Anyone else having this issue?

  12. I'm constantly trying to figure out just how much do I need to scrap to be able to move normally (Pre level 30). Sometimes there's just too many tasty items I want to hang on to but I really don't want to crawl all the way back to home base. Could someone add a small label indicating the current loaded weight somewhere on the screen when in one of the work benches? (And assuming that's not to much trouble, could you show me how it was done so I can find a starting point to learn how to make mods?)

    Thanks in advance,

    Shalekendar
