  1. Well I f***ed up... It turned out that maybe the reason why it wasn't playing wasn't that the game only accepted bink2 but maybe that I was giving too big a file (600MB). I tried with a tiny (230KB) one at it worked! Which raises the question what the limit for bink video files is. I also just realised that I used different settings when encoding it so that might be the reason it wasn't playing. Well I sure feel dumb right now.
  2. Like I noted above (maybe somewhat vaguely), I tried that and Fallout 4 just rejected it. The game may only be expecting bink 2 and it gives up when I give it bink 1.
  3. I was checking out the Video folder in Fallout 4 and comparing it to Skyrim and one of the first things that struck me was that all the video files were .bk2 files. After doing a check with RAD's tools (see: pictures below) I concluded that sure enough they were bink 2 files, quite unlike Skyrim's bink 1 files. This presents a nasty issue since currently there is no freely available bink 2 encoder. I tried some quick and dirty ways to get Fallout 4 to play bink 1 files by playing around with the extensions but no dice, it vehemently refuses to play them. I feel that this issue is quite relevant to modders since it can limit the possibilities for mods if left unresolved. Ideas, anyone? Here's some data from radinfo.exe as an example of the problem
