  1. The point is that when the Nexus started talks with Valve it was tantamount to making a deal with the devil. You better make sure that you know how the new system will be implemented and what you're signing into. Notice how when Gabe was asked if he was going to put his foot down when companies demanded that their next game's mods would be released only on Steam, he said he wasn't going to do so? And why would he? It's lucrative for them and they are a company first and foremost. It saddens me only that when this is exploited (and let's face it, when there's money involved when did companies act in their customers best interest?) we shall see the demise of sites like the nexus. It would have been better if these plans were made public before they were implemented. Once the devil gets a foothold... Just my humble opinion with respect to everyone here
  2. In response to post #24605154. #24607209, #24607279, #24607314, #24607404, #24607539, #24607559, #24607699, #24607944 are all replies on the same post. I was just contacted by Valve's lawyer. He stated that they will not remove the content unless "legally compelled to do so", and that they will make the file visible only to currently paid users. I am beside myself with anger right now as they try to tell me what I can do with my own content. The copyright situation with Art of the Catch is shades of grey, but in Arissa 2.0's case, it's black and white; that's 100% mine and Griefmyst's work, and I should be able to dictate its distribution if I so choose. Unbelievable.
  3. In response to post #24589929. #24589979 is also a reply to the same post. What happens when here isn't an option? When the next game Bethesda releases allows for mods only on Steam. This is about setting a precedent.
  4. In response to post #24589329. #24589589, #24589619, #24589869 are all replies on the same post. If it was about some other method of supporting the modders, everything would be fine. They SHOULD get some money via an alternate system. But how is it not GREED when modders get only 25%? 1)How many mods are based on other people's work and assets? I am sure nobody will be greedy and they will share the profits equally. 2)Why do people complain about DLC? It TAKES TIME for the company to create that product. I think we have all seen where that thinking has led. 3) What happens when Bethesda decides that they will allow mods for their games to only be hosted on Steam? If everyone follows suit, say goodbye to the Nexus. But I am sure that monopolistic practices never hurt any consumers before. 4)If you're being paid, it's not a mod but a DLC. Your work better be stellar since you're now selling me a product and if it breaks I am expecting you to fix it or else. See how this changes the relationships in the community? I am not against modders being paid for their work, I am against the method implemented.
  5. Can someone please tell me what is going to happen If Bethesda decides that the new Fallout or Elder Scrolls will be exclusive to Steam and its Workshop? Or does anyone believe that once the money starts coming in, they will let sites like the Nexus leak potential income? Do we want this kind of precedent? I may be over 30 and overly cynical but since when did companies have the comsumer's best interest at heart? It is MY game and My rules and you are NOT ALLOWED to host mods for my game to any other sites except steam, unless you want our legal team to contact you. Surely this will do wonders for the community and the modding scene. NOT
