  1. You're not alone. I found 4 to be very shallow, especially compared to NV. I didn't like being told who I was (in an "RPG"), the world is not as interesting...basically everything you pointed out. I did finish the game, but the DLC is going to have to be awfully spectacular to make me want it. I'm also really hoping that mods will come along to "save" the game for me, but I just don't know. It's really lacking compared to the other games.
  2. Fallout New Vegas. I was absorbed by the world and fell absolutely in love with the characters, and really felt like I had choices that made a difference.
  3. You can post pictures. You can use the site's image share feature, or post the picture somewhere else and use the image feature when posting to embed it in your post. Good luck with your chicken!
  4. Updated my nvidia drivers. I hope you got/get yours straightened out, too. :)
  5. Well, it gives you a chance to play it and figure out what mods you'll want. ;)
  6. I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but Yahtzee's review is up: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/116433-Fallout-4-Review
  7. Thanks, Ladez! I'll try that (and try to remember to switch it back if I ever mess with the Lucky 38). Is the bug new(ish)? I don't remember this happening before, but I haven't messed with interiors in a long time.
  8. I'm sure I'm doing something 1) obvious and 2) stupid, but I would appreciate any help here. I'm trying to work with the 13th floor of the Tops, but most of it is missing in the render window: http://i.imgur.com/bGNDt9j.png That's Yes Man standing out there in space all by his lonesome. I've tried running the geck through power up and without it, and the result is the same. This is just the vanilla game, btw, not a mod. When I go there in game, everything is fine. So what have I managed to screw up? :) Thank you!
  9. When my SO moved in, he brought a PS and PS2. Oddworld was my first sidescroller experience, and I loved it. We still have both console and game kicking around here somewhere. And I still ^%$# hate fleeches. ;)
  10. DimosZargarda, I don't think FO4 is bad, I'm glad to have it, and I enjoyed playing it well enough. I just didn't enjoy it as much as I loved FO3 and NV. It's not a bad game; it just isn't as good as the others in my (and apparently a few other people's) opinion(s). I appreciate that people have offered their thoughts here with very little snarkiness. I started this thread to hear what other people loved about the game, to see if I was missing something or just not "getting" something about it. I think that question has been well answered for me, so thank you to everyone who contributed to the intelligent discussion.
  11. That's...interesting, because I still play the other games, as well as Skyrim. So, if by "these types of games" you mean RPGs, yes, I still enjoy them. I enjoy FPS games, too, but I don't expect Fallout to be strictly (or nearly strictly) a FPS. Which is where FO4 starts to fall down for me-- as noted elsewhere, it's a good game, it's just not a Fallout game. It's not a "big world RPG shooter," because it's not an RPG (certainly not of the caliber/depth that the previous games are). You point out that you didn't have as much issue with the dialogue because you played a good character, but also that you recognize that ultimately it doesn't matter because the outcomes are the same. I agree with that last part, and that's where it fails as a Fallout game, in my opinion. I played a good character, too (like you have much choice if you want to hang out with the various companions and do their quests/get their perks), but I would have loved more options and depth to my choices, and NPCs' reactions. I expected more, based on the previous games. I disagree about the dialogue being a step forward for an RPG, because of the severe lack of role playing options in the dialogue. Earlier someone said you can play a good guy or a sarcastic good guy, and that's pretty much right. Saying the dialogue is okay that way because it can be fixed with mods-- we shouldn't have to "fix" the game. It should stand on its own without modding.
  12. This may be a more succinct version of what I was trying to say. :)
  13. Oh, I didn't expect the game to suddenly become more fun because someone shared their opinion of it. I just wanted see it from the perspective of those who love it. Sorry, I thought I stated that earlier. I agree that, on the surface, FO3 and FNV involved shooting things, completing quests, and grabbing loot. Those games just made me care a lot more about the world in which I did those things, and the reasons why I did them. I've been mulling over why I don't care about the people in the Commonwealth as much as I did about those in DC or the Mojave, and really the discussion here is helping clarify that for me. It's not that I hate FO4. I like it well enough to have finished it-- I just expected, from my track record with previous games, to like it more. New Vegas and Fallout 3 are my top two favorite games ever, and I don't think FO4 would make my top 10. That really surprised me, so I threw this topic out for discussion.
  14. I used console commands almost from the start with no problems. In fact, the endgame quest bugged on me twice and I wouldn't have been able to finish the game without the console.
  15. I really appreciate the discussion here, and the fact that people are staying civil. Thanks for that. :) I think that everyone is sort of crystallizing for me what my problem is with the game-- I play Fallout and TES to learn the world, find out who I want to be within it, learn about the people, and find out What Happens Next in the story. I guess, in summary, I play them for the RPG elements. And has been stated here and elsewhere, FO4 isn't an RPG, despite its marketing claims. I won't clog up the thread by repeating what others have said just so I can add, "Me, too," but yeah, limited dialogue options/flimsy story hook at the beginning/I'm not interested in building settlements for Bethesda or Settler 1, 2, or 3, so...never gonna be my favorite Fallout game, I guess. Sigh. (And I'm always surprised when people say they found NV's environment to be drab or boring-- after green-gray DC, I thought the warm colors and living plants were lovely. But, again, that's just me. :) )
  16. I wondered how much settlement-building played into things for the people who are really enjoying the game. That part doesn't fascinate me, but I can see how it would completely change things for me if it did. I can see how easy it would be to lose days to just collecting materials and building settlements.
  17. Just looking for healthy debate, for angles I haven't seen yet. I like getting other people's points of view before I dismiss something.
  18. ...could you please tell me what I'm missing? I want to love this game. I really do. But I don't. I'm not engaging with many of the characters (including the Sole Survivor) or the story line. It's just not hooking me. There are things that I think are improved over FO3 and FNV, but those things are very few. Basically, for me, the game is a pale version of NV with the four factions moving in an interlocking story arc, but by the end of the game I wasn't nearly as attached to the Commonwealth as I was to New Vegas (the city) or the Mojave in general. By the end of FNV, I was ready to fight tooth and nail for the region's independence. By the same point in FO4, I just picked the faction I found the least objectionable. So, I want to love FO4 as much as I do the other two...why am I not getting this? What do you love about the game? What am I not seeing? Please enlighten me. :)
  19. Thank you. I did grab those, though they have since vanished from my inventory. Yay. Reminds me, though-- giving us the ability to build settlements without the ability to accurately place all the junk we've collected to decorate the place seems sloppy...we need a Jaxonz Positioner mod for FO4. (You can't grab a Buttercup-- apparently you can haul them around in your pocket all day long, but they're "too heavy" to set upright once you drop them on the floor.) i think their classed as junk so probaby got stored in your inventory and posibly used for your base They are classed as junk, but I think I ran into a glitch and lost some stuff in my inventory. I went to a different save and went back to the factory to get them again. (Also discovered that you can rearrange them in workshop mode as if they were furniture; not as flexible as Jaxonz Positioner, but good enough to make me feel like a dink for not realizing it sooner. :P )
  20. EDIT: Never mind, I think I've got it straightened out. Thanks anyway! When I go into workshop mode and VATS, this happens: http://staticdelivery.nexusmods.com/images/1151/2271980-1448315948.png http://staticdelivery.nexusmods.com/images/1151/2271980-1448316011.png I've just changed computers for the second time in two weeks (don't ask), and transferred my save files from the previous rig to this one; everything else looks/acts okay in the game so far. I'm pretty tech-ignorant, so please let me know what information I should post to help figure this out, if necessary. And thanks.
  21. You guys make some excellent points about both sides. Ultimately, though, I think Warmaker01 is right: The Institute has given up on all people who aren't Institute. The Brotherhood has a pretty dim view of everyone not-Brotherhood, but they are trying to protect what's left of humanity by taking away their toys, not writing them off. I hate that the BoS has reverted to its pre-Lyons state, but they're at least not kidnapping/murdering people. Yes, there seem to be a few individuals within the Institute who care about the humans "above," but I didn't get the impression that there were enough of them to redeem the whole organization. Plus I've got a whole "how you treat your cats" bias thing going on between the two groups, but I won't bore everyone with that.
  22. Thank you. I did grab those, though they have since vanished from my inventory. Yay. 23. I thought the map/world/area seemed really small. Honestly, it feels considerably smaller than FO3. I'm surprised to hear it's roughly the same size.
