Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul or Francesco's Mod?
dcgames replied to Macaquinho's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Hi guys, just jumping in here because these mods sound interesting. Is FCOM: Convergence the same as just FCOM? I looked up OOO and MMM on Google, because I had no idea what the initials stood for. They both sound great as well. Do you need to have some program to install and run these mods on Oblivion? -
Just make sure whatever amount of RAM you buy that they are all the same size and the same brand. That will prevent any problems stemming from using RAM of different brand and timings, which can cause conflicts or (in some cases) make it impossible to even start your computer.

Best GPU/Motherboard Brand?
dcgames replied to Feltmarskal's topic in Hardware and software discussion
I got a Gigabyte P35-DS4 when I built my PC and it's run without a single hiccup for the last three years. Awesome board and great support. Gigabyte also keeps their downloads (drivers, BIOS, etc.) up to date. And they make it easy to find them (some places you need a college degree to find them). -
Need a new graphics card
dcgames replied to DeathWarrior's topic in Hardware and software discussion
You can get a EVGA GTX 260 216 Core 55nm from this guy for $95 (shipped). It's used, but a dang decent card, especially for that price. -
In need of a new mouse/keyboard
dcgames replied to Azrael120782's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Yes, but it's not really a gaming mouse. -
Hi Salamander. I had this exact same thing happen to my rig shortly after I built it. I spent days trying to diagnose it until finally someone suggested I go to the SeaGate site (I have SeaGate HDs) and download their SeaTools utility to check both my HDs. I did this and ran the utility and found one of the drives had a number of bad sectors on it. I removed the drive, but then I was still having issues with the PC. At my wits end I finally tried running a Windows memory diagnostic and discovered both my RAM modules were bad. So in the end it turned out to be bad RAM and one bad HD. Now I found it odd that in my build (this was my first one) that I would get a bad HD AND two bad RAM sticks, but those things do happen sometimes. Make sure you check everything. Visit the manufacturer's website for your HDs and see if they have a utility to test them with. You could also use HD Tune to check your drives. You can get the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool here. If you have Windows 7 then it's already part of the OS. As I learned when I built my rig it's a pain but checking everything is the only way to narrow down problems. I hope you get it fixed soon.

In need of a new mouse/keyboard
dcgames replied to Azrael120782's topic in Hardware and software discussion
I've been a fan of Logitech since I bought my first mouse and keyboard from them (MX3100). The dependable quality of Logitech devices has been the main reason I stick with them and this is why I didn't hesitate to purchase the new Performance MX Mouse. At first, I wasn't sure if this mouse could hold a candle next to my beloved MX-1000, which had finally retired itself with a worn down right-click button. However, the Performance MX surprised me. I would recommend this mouse to anyone. It may be a bit pricey, but then you get what you pay for with the Performance MX. -
There's another one I found called Complete Gardening. According to the details it is compatible with the Harvest mod.

Do I need any updates if I buy GotY Edition?
dcgames replied to dcgames's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Hmm, I just had some yahoo in another forum tell me my graphics card was subpar. He said I should get a different card. My card is an Asus GeForce 9600 GSO. You can see the specs for my card on the Asus site here. He recommended I get a eVGA GTX 260 Core 216 55nm. What do you guys think? -

You guys are making me want Oblivion really bad. I have to get it from Amazon and wait five days. Ugh. In the meantime I'm trying to decide if I want to set up a RAID 0 array on my computer. I've heard it enhances the game play with Oblivion. -

Do I need any updates if I buy GotY Edition?

I would have thought Walmart would have one - it said my local store did online. So last night I walked clear to the other end of town and they didn't have any. Oh well, I needed the walk anyway (lol). I called my Gamestop store and they said they aren't allowed to carry PC games (???). I asked the guy why and he said because the manager didn't feel there was a big enough market in our town for PC games. Idiots. -

Darkedge, thanks for those install tips. I'll definitely use those when I install the game. And a big "THANK YOU" to the rest of you - you've all been very helpful. I appreciate it. I'm still trying to find an Oblivion game in my vicinity, but it looks like I'm going to have to order it from somewhere online - if I can find it. For an older game it's hard to find. -

I don't know what DLC is. Are you talking about the game itself? I was planning on buying it from a store. I assume it comes on discs. -

Ben, thanks for the info. After I install Oblivion what optimizations, mods, and apps should I get? I've heard that you need OBMM, to use mods (I believe). I've seen several lists or guides already concerning these things. There is one on Steam here, and an optimizing guide here. I'm just wondering (out of all these things) what ones I should get to enhance the gameplay. What do you guys recommend? -

Do I need any updates if I buy GotY Edition?
dcgames replied to dcgames's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
That sounds great, but I just found out that you can't download any Oblivion content on a 64-bit version of Windows (I have Win7 Home Premium 64-bit). Kind of strange. Update: I've been Googling on this and it seems Oblivion can be run on 64-bit Win7, it just needs to be installed to C:\Games\Oblivion instead of the default location (which I assume is C:\Program Files\Oblivion). As for the "Official Oblivion downloads" I'm not sure what Bethsoft is referring to, unless they mean only downloads made by them. So far in my reading it seems many people have installed Oblivion and mods on Win7 64-bit without any issues. -

Uh-oh, just found this this morning on the official Oblivion forums.... Hmm, so I guess this means I won't be able to get any downloadable content for the game, like mods and such? -
Do I need any updates if I buy GotY Edition?
dcgames replied to dcgames's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
OK, thanks, Fonger. I'll remember that. I can't believe that not one store in this town has an Oblivion GotY. Incredible. So I guess tomorrow I'll have to start checking out of town. *SIGH* ...and I really wanted to check it out tonight. Bummer. -
I was wondering if anyone here has any experience setting up a RAID 0 array on a Gigabyte P35-DS4 mobo? I read the following about running a RAID 0 array to help enhance my Oblivion game play... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Do I need any updates if I buy GotY Edition?
dcgames replied to dcgames's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Ha! Thanks. I was kind of excited by the results. I built this computer a couple summers ago - my first time building my own rig - and I tried to get components that would have advantages further down the road. Although I have never played a game on a PC people kept asking me why, because when they saw my system specs they were like, "How come you aren't playing any PC games?" So I thought maybe I better try one, since I spent all the money to build this computer. I was interested in Morrowind when it came out, because I love big RPG games. But I didn't have a computer at the time. So I thought I'd give Oblivion a try. I have UAC turned off so that won't be a problem. I have been researching everything I can about Oblivion and I have seen some mods, like the Lost Paladins of the Divines, which is pretty slick. If you have any other suggestions I'd love to hear them. I'm a huge Zelda fan so I love anything that's melee/sword-fighting, like knights and warriors. Can you get a controller to use on the PC for this game, or are you stuck using the mouse and keyboard? -

Hi darkedge, thanks for the reply and the info. I thought I would install the game on my second HD, which has 260GB of free space. I tested my computer on the Can You Run It? test site and all my components passed. Here's a screenshot of my results.... http://dougdraws.com/show/canyourunit.jpg -

Hi Fonger. Thanks for the reply. Is that "second disc" included in the GotY edition? -
Hi everyone. I'm new here and I am thinking of getting Oblivion (Game of the Year Edition) and I was wondering if I need any updates or if the GotY has everything I need? Thanks in advance for your replies.
