Hey laweman if you have not found a fix yet, try installing a previous version of the Nexus Mod Manager, this worked for me back in June of 2012. I had the previous version still in my downloads back then I remember.

For some reason the WMX mod file won't download to the manager, the manager says that the file cannot be found. Does anyone have a solution? This is the mod I'm talking about so everyone knows...http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/39651

Basically I can't download mods using the manager, every time I try it gives me an error message with the heading "Unrecognized Game Mode" and says "Nexus Mod Manager is not set up to work with Fallout: New Vegas If Fallout: New Vegas is installed, rescan for installed games from the Change Game toolbar item." I have the Ultimate Edition from Steam of Fallout: New Vegas. The correct path has been chosen to FO:NV directory and I have reinstalled NMM already and that didn't fix it. Does someone know a fix for this, I would really hate to have to manually download all my mods. :(
