  1. Simply make decisions on what your interactions and actions will be. Have a basis to determine things based on character, change it as you write the character in your head...And make it a bunch of decisions and things you want to do. Don't just make a character you don't want to play. Decide what you want to be this time around, both in combat, and your choices in the game. Also, don't meta game it. Look at things as if they are real. I pick tons of immersion breaking berries, but that is not what makes it roleplay in my mind. Its choosing to hate the Dark Elves for once. To name your character Blackgold and be an evil altmer in ebony armour. Try naming a character yourself to know what you really want to do, as if you really were in the world. Being yourself in a fantasy world was the original definition of roleplay, and I don't mean that in a fluffy way. I mean you can be a wizard or chop off a head man! What would you do in Skyrim for REAL!
  2. Sign Up October 30th for the first formal competition of ~The Last Dragonborn Standing~! Previously, there were attempts to create and promote this competition. Now it is here for a few months longer to sign up and join in the competition. We all know the Legend and Prophecy of the Last Dragonborn, on whome the Wheel turns when Chaos spreads to the Eight Corners of the World! But we know there is only One Dragonborn...Perhaps Revealed...Thus far... Well, now we must have a true test, not merely fetching a Horn which anyone can and may. You must begin the game anew, reach Level 80 without mod assistance, and defeat the Ebony Warrior first before anyone else, completing his quest, and...All without dying... You are Dovahkiin! With the Body of a Mortal and Soul of a Dragon! It is that Body we are concerned about...Will it stand your Final Test!? Will you be welcomed into Sovngarde, sit on the Throne of Shore, in the Time of Akatosh, of His Essence? Or will you fall to Oblivion...Lose your head and be buried by some small town in the mountains! Fight now! All comers must enter their new character's name, their class and/or primary skills, and include a Screenshot of this character at Helgen as soon as the chopping block is overturned! Do not stir further from that spot! Not until October 30th can you begin your journey! If you make it to level 80, and the Ebony Warrior appears, take his quest, and the first conqueror to return with a screenshot of them defeating him with their new character...Wins! Of course, you must also then add the stats of that character under Skills in this thread. And if you fail, and fall...You must bring back the image and confess your humiliation, and that you are not the true Dovahkiin, but a False Dragonborn! Rules...By which we live and govern OURSELVES! There is an honor system in place, unless a willing modder can create a Death tracker in the Stats section of the actual Pause Menu alongside kills, bunnies killed, wings plucked, etc. And that would have to be done, tested and offered to all long before Oct. 30. (1) No mods which add armours, weapons, or spells that are offbase with Vanilla. Only the Vanilla Weapons, Armours, and Spells are allowed. Even if the Armour is equavalent to another, or not OP, it may be acquired or leveled differently than the Vanilla Game. For more on Modded Challengers, read below. (2) No use of Exploitations that are Glitches. This includes killing merchants and then reloading, using a plate to phase through a wall, putting baskets over your or another's head, the Restoration Potion Glitch, etc. You may not use the Chests under Whiterun, or the hidden chest in Dawnstar. You may not use the unequip and reequip exploit for the Aetheriul Crown. And if you can think of it, you cannot do it. However, any use of Grinding, such as Blocking difficult opponents whilst healing, walking backwards forever behind Ulfir, is acceptable. Reusing the bartender over and over again in Riften to level Speech counts as an Exploit. (3) No Console Commands except for Screenshots, to fix major and serious Glitches that stop your game, or to get unstuck or disable a mod. (4) No mods that make the game easier. This has to do with leveling, exp, and the way enemies fight. But also includes specific combat mods that change the dynamics of fighting severely, however double-edged. For example, No Dodge Mod, No Locational Damage, and no Mods like Ordinator which make it so both fighters get changed advantages in combat. Any mod that increases difficulty one way, such as an AI enhancement, is acceptable. But even Realistic Arrows cannot be used guys. (5) Immersion mods are only allowed if they increase difficulty, and that is your choice to increase the Challenge. Whether it is Frostfall, iNeed, or any other hunger or elements mod, and roleplay mod, they are only allowed if they do not effect leveling and combat. No smithing mods are allowed for similar reasons as the above. Gaining equipment you otherwise don't get is illegal. And they sometimes improve Two Handed by using the Forge as well. (6) No nudity or scantily clad mods. Why? One, its wrong and messed up. Two, seriously, its for the sake of pictures that are actually respectful towards others, and make it so we have maybe someone cool to look up to when they beat the Ebony Warrior. That is most of it. But a third reason is any clothing or armour that is off brand from Vanilla is cheating as per number (1). (7) When fighting the Ebony Warrior, a glitch may cause his Health to restart. You will not know this with HUD off, fair warning. The Glitch usually involves him being Shouted off a cliff, which is legal in the fight. But if you do not hit him when he lands, his health will restart when he gets back up. Otherwise, a direct hit after falling off the cliff is usually fatal depending on difficulty. ( List your character name, class or primary skills, a screenshot at Helgen is required, just as for victory. You must list your Difficulty Rank, explained below. Also, you must tell us what DLC you own, whether you use Legendary Edition, only Hearthfire, or are on the Special Edition. And then if you wish, share any story information or roleplay stuff, plus any plan or strategies you want to share. All of the latter is of course optional, but this thread will be up until Oct. 30 and afterwards for discussion, sign ups, and any posts of videos, pics, tips, guides, etc. (9) If you have any questionable mods, even if you believe it is alright, do ask here! We will reach a settlement and decision jointly, but it will follow the guidelines as stipulated: It must not boost leveling, damage, protection, skill and perk effects, give weapons, armour, or items ahead of Vanilla Gain/Time, or unallowed items that are not in Vanilla. This also applies to Scroll crafting, special potions, and Soul Gem crafting, if you pay close attention to the fact items are given ahead of normal gathering time in the game. The other Rules are related to Versions of the Game, Spirit Competitors, and Difficulty Ranks. In Difficulty Ranks, you must list what difficulty you will be fighting in, and it must be Adept and Above to Win. If you are First on Adept, you will be acknowledged as the Victor of Adept and the First to Conquer. If you are First in Expert, you will be acknowledged as Victor of Expert and First to Conquer. But if you come in First in Expert but second in the Challenge, which is more likely, you will be acknowledged as Victor of Expert and Second to Conquer. And so on for Master and Legendary. If you do not own a Legendary Edition, you may be grouped in a Bracket or Rank that is separate from the Legendary Edition Crowd, but you only require Dragonborn installed to fight the Ebony Warrior. If you do not own Dragonborn DLC...Buy it! If not still...Then we will have a No-Dragonborn Rank, which will still have a First Place Victor for getting to Level 80 simply. Those who own Skyrim only for the Xbox 360 or Xbox One, can still participate in a Spirit Competition, which is separate from the main event. Please list that you own a game system different from PC in your sign up. There will be a distinction made, for now, between Special Edition and Regular, even Regular Legendary, due to the presence of game changes. One game changes are examined, Rules may be edited, and Ranks clarified better. Sample Sign Up: Eckdgar the Stomach, Wood Elf, Spellsword, Illusion, One handed, Sneak, Master difficulty, Legendary Edition. I'm going to win! Do not forget to list whether you are using Legendary Difficulty or Edition! ; ) If you have a Special Edition, list it as Special Edition or SE. NoDLC, No Dawnguard, No Hearthfire, etc. also are qualifiers to use as well. You have Four Months to Sign Up! It begins at Midnight in Chicago, 1:00 a.m. New York, 2:00 a.m Rio De Janeiro, 3:00 a.m. Greenland, 5:00 a.m. Dakar off the Coast of Africa, 6:00 a.m. London, 7:00 a.m. Paris and Cape Town, 8:00 a.m. for both Helsinki and Moscow, 9:00 a.m. Dubai, 10:00 a.m. Tehran, 12:00 p.m. India, 3:00 p.m. Tokyo, 4:00 p.m. Sydney, and 6:00 p.m. New Zealand. 11:00 p.m. Denver, 10:00 p.m. Los Angelos, 9:00 p.m. Alaska, and 7:00 p.m. Honolulu. Feel free to converse strategy, document your efforts, but above all else, sign up and be more than a milk drinker here! There is also a thread containing sign ups on Steam exactly like this one, if you prefer to hang out or sign up there. Please distribute this link and share with others to challenge them at your leisure. And...Sky Guide You!
  3. I just lost. Tried competing with one other guy for now. Got level 2, it was easy. Fooled around pushing a body off the tower on the way to Bleak Falls Barrow, then got stuck on the edge, then died. I'm out. Feel free to join at any time. Not many are doing it, and it will be a time differential for us all anyway. Just let us know we competition with your character name and anything else on here or steam.
  4. Alright, just sign in and start already. It's well past, and only me and a guy at it. Join us you cowards! Sovngarde is only for the honorable!
  5. This is the Nexus side of a thread on steam of the same name. The challenge is simply a race to Level 80 on Adept difficulty, without dying once! Then you must defeat the Ebony Warrior at his camp and finish his quest! The first one to the end will be our champion! The Rules are as follows: (1. No use of restoration glitch, shopkeeper kill and reload, plate through walls, basket head for stealing and sneaking, or instant bear traps death. No glitches may be used. (2. Console Commands are off limits for all except when needed to unstuck a quest, a game breaking glitch, or to take screenshots to share with the rest of us. (3. No mods that use irregular weapon types easily acquired, change leveling, make things both difficult and advantageous for both sides (Locational Damage Headshots that instant kill), and essentially any mod that is questionable to break vanilla difficulty and fairness. No dodge mods. Realistically deadly arrows. Nothing that unbalanced with other people. (4. You must either reload or simply fight the Ebony Warrior again if his health resets from fall damage. Or you can hit him to make the fall damage take effect and get instant kill! But if the toughest warrior in Tamriel kills you, you are dead and lose! (5. Mods that add difficulty alone may be used, and you should tell us so we can cheer you on! That includes food mods. But if you starve to death, it counts! Go you crazy marathoner who makes us look bad! Go...and die! (6. Nothing that changes levexing or XP gain allowed. (7. When you die, you must screenshot the body if possible, and post it here or on the Steam forum, wherever you signed up. (8. Screenshot the Ebony Warrior when defeated, then post immediately to win. But you must post level and stats in a screenshot afterwards. (9. Please put your name and character info in this thread or on the Steam forum thread to sign up. Please add a screenshot to your registration. (10. Do not leave Helgen or the Chopping block until 19 hours from now, at 5 pm Eastern time here in America. Sorry it is so late. I should have done this sooner. I thought steam alone would give competitors. Feel free to chat here or on the steam thread. Someone thinks they might post on youtube. The honor system of the Nords is also the only way to make this work. Challenge your opponent fairly, and accept defeat and a place in Sovngarde mightily! I will be fighting in honor of you all who join...on my Xbox 360 with a broken PC... But still. Wind Guide You!
  6. I share your concerns completely. If you follow that link and read it through, you will discover that is the purpose of the Multiplayer Shout. It is just a name, but rather nice and fun one at that. :) I understand it is a full-fledged backing that is needed to get anything done in the area of multiplayer. It takes more than one modder to make a mod for more than one person, essentially. I hope that we will unite people like you to further the cause of a universal, compatible mod, that will service changes to the game and keeping it the same. Set up with an MMO structure in the planning will allow for smaller capacity hosting for coop exclusive games and pvp tournaments. You can count me among the 2949 people you are left needing. I believe, however, we can both find them, and many more, here and throughout the communities altogether.
  7. Fellow Dragonborn, please draw your attention to the final effort now. There are currently 5 attempts to make an internet connected multiplayer Skyrim to date. There is also an Alpha mod for a two player coop mode using the same computer with a keyboard or controller. The historical progress of the effort is one that shows we are getting better, and all it takes is the community of modders and their supporters to finish the job. Follow the link here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/535152511362743333/ Help recruit, work, or show your support to ensure that at long last the community is united for its one wish in unison that cannot be denied by mere disbelief over the facts. Fus ro dah!
  8. That is an invalid statement. There are currently five projects dedicated to building Skyrim into some form of multiplayer along with a two player "couch" controller, which allows for two people on the same keyboard or with an xbox controller to play the main character and an added companion. Then there is this: http://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/535152511362743333/ Skyrim Multiplayer has been tried several times with growing success, never has been shut down by Bethesda itself (contrary to popular belief, myths really), and every time someone tried to make a multiplayer mod in a TES game has gotten us to this closer point. It is doable, historically progressing, and likely to happen at any time. It is just a matter of motivation. People continue to quote the status quo which is a fallacy.
  9. I have come to request your current talents for a unanimous undertaking on a universal multiplayer Skyrim mod. Here is where we are enlisting volunteers. http://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/535152511362743333/ At the very least, your advise and knowledge in this matter may prove fruitful for the whole of Skyrim communities. Best of luck in your current endeavors. I do believe there is a way to reproduce a synchronized Skyrim without removing Npcs and scripts. The method likely involves keeping a copy of one load and configuring every save file according to that. It would mean possibly removing what a save keeps and cares about. Maybe not. Others have achieved enough margin of sync that it appears a full sync is possible without removing precious parts of the game. A master load file may be the only thing that is needed, to regulate the positions of Npcs and trigger of scripts. I have read about the override of other client computers' scripts as well. I am sure your judgement and considerations will be invaluable to the team which arises to handle this most earnest wish of you and your fellow Dragonborn. Thank you for your initiative and hardwork. Lok Bo, Thuum Tuum...
  10. This is worth it...Worth the community. We all can do it. This is not a request, this is all of our desire. We dream of it, we sometimes try to make it, and now we should combine to end this lack and need. I came onto the Nexus to be corrected. I thought we had four and a half attempts at making Skyrim Multiplayer in some way, shape, or form. Truth is, we now have Five. It is time. All must choose... We can support it, encourage, long, volunteer, code, cooperate, plan, and do what it takes to organize all the attempts to this moment so we can finally be a community in Skyrim, and not one just based around the land and game. It is possible, proven 4 and a 1/2 times on record. We have millions of players, hundreds of game awards, and thousands of modders who have shown enough to be able to complete this project. It must be unanimous for the entire communities for Skyrim and modding combined. Then, there can be a proliferate number of working multiplayer mods once the first is made. For the sake of True Needs, we should let be those modding projects we currently are working on, mention with pride what is taking our time, and help each other. We organize. The fans, the modders, the game itself with us. Encourage the coders and capable you know to read and think about it. Read this thread for more. Meetings will begin when it is determined enough skill has been reached and full planning can begin. Anyone who wants to gather their colleagues or those who make the mods you use, feel free to ask them. http://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/535152511362743333/ And please be ready to help support the uniting of Aftermath, Tamriel Online, and others who have made progress into Internet connection or the deep coding of Skyrim to consult at the least on this project. I am but an instigator, but history proposes the outcome. We only need to move towards it. It is to be a universal mod, for everyone, everything... Fus Ro Dah! I hope to see you in Skyrim soon. And I hope to see this community finally committed as a whole to a single task. If for nothing else, it will allow you to see the strength of this Nexus and what can be done when it happens. Remember it has never been done before, and there is no proof it cannot accomplish anything. For Skyrim...Lok Bo, Thuum Tuum...
  11. So, we should form some kind of modders guild? :psyduck: Appoint leaders and form a committee to set rules that all modders MUST follow or suffer some consequences? "You, modder number 37685 failed to follow directive 37. The punishment for that is drawing and quartering." :pinch: Nah, I don't think that is exactly what you had in mind. :whistling: What you really want is some kind of standardization - and it's just not going to happen overnight as nearly every modder wants to do things their own way - this is a characteristic of creative people. They resent being told how to be creative and if you try to force it, they will intentionally do it different. "MY way is better because I like it better than YOUR way." :ermm: - Who decides which way is the 'one' right way? You? Me? ( I don't want that job) some unknown faceless committee that makes up directive 37 which must be obeyed? Yes it would be nice if everyone adhered to the same standards. Or even some standards. And there is some effort in that direction. We try to have recommended standards, but modders are just too independent - it's like herding cats. Then we have the SDK (CS, CK, GECK, or whatever they call it for each game) - every game is different and has a different way that things have to be done and no rules come with any of them - so standardization between games is out the window. One of these days we are going to get organized. But today isn't that day. And tomorrow isn't looking too good either. :teehee: We are always open to suggestions as to how things can be done better, but hard and fast rules just won't work in a community like this one. Well a the risk of getting into a fight with a moderator... My way is better because I dont just look at one thing in one direction with one purpose in mind. I take the whole picture of what something is at face value and then take into account all the divergent trees that spread out in all directions as real factors and not just 'my opinion' or 'what i want to do' For my tastes specifically I want everything to be exceedingly realistic. While I see this as a superior way to build a role playing experience there are always going to be people who want to play casually. So what i was saying with the whole template system is that you allow the end user to pick and choose modules to fit the taste of that play style. What im talking about is not about forcing people to behave a certain way, but rather the industrializing of all systems where as they are seems to by quite feudal in nature. Consider this, you are a green modder joining the nexus community. When you pop into the 'workshop' you are immediately confronted with the spread sheet of how to make a mod in a universal format and given the tools to do so. It would be like having the engine of a vehicle standardized in every aspect of how it works and when someone comes in to 'modify' the engine each part unplugs leaving a free slot for what ever the modifier wants to put in its place. And further more there would be slots on top of those standard parts allowing for additions so that the part in question can become more than it was initially intended to be. I might just be rambling at this point but thats as clearly as I can think to put it into words. And really when we think about modding the real issue really just boils down to 'I want things to look this way' 'I want to add this new stuff' 'I want to change the way this behaves' 'I want to fix this problem' and for me to say 'well look, if everybody just does whatever they want because their free to do so then none of these parts are going to fit together and nothing is going to function the way its supposed to...' I dont think such a remark is in any way over any kind of realistic line... I mean consider modding without a Nexus Mod Manager and just throwing mods in left and right without any consideration for keeping track of what went where. You are going to find huge catastrophic problems and have no idea how to fix it other than whipping the whole thing clean and starting over. I find the whole prospect to be a waste of time and energy. Some actual idea of order would be in order in all the madness, am I wrong? From what I've learned about modding in my some six years of hoping and writing and dreaming and plotting and planning is if youre going it alone and you think youre gonna go big-go home before you s*** yourself. OR know each section you want changed-animation-3D models for armour weapons creatures and locations-quest design-scripting for quests, activated static objects, activated movable objects, dialogue editing and radiant/activated events scenes, quests and oh my gods(if i continue this list rant I'll catch fire). those with big imaginations and little experience are gonna be pissed at some point or another. Personally, im so green brelyna maryons trying to counterspell me  . this is only my second nexus post. i see a community of half powerful dreamers and creators divided by ego and convention. i see a big golden beautiful dragon flying in a circle, biting at its tail, blowing smoke and fire up its own arse. but i do see big gold. not money-gold (though the possibility is there for the seekers). but only if we learn together will the green modders with no knowledge and deep gnawing inner doubt about getting their imaginations realized be brought up into the fold of near developer studio level greatness. The players want to play, the creators want to create. how does one go from player to content creator? that, i am still trying to find out but i DO KNOW that I have substance (arrogant? eh i hope not-please bear with me) as a writer and future level designer, loremaster, 3d artist, voice actor, script writer, content creator and contributor. i have toiled over a apocrypha of scribbles and empty words in hope that i may one day play them out and watch my friends live a story WE wrote together. i know i am not alone in my frustrations and i hope that I and all others like me can YES guild up and ragtag together, peaceably and with common sense and common respect to ALL of our COMMON desires make them a reality. for those who learn in different ways than the gray standard, there is no other way and their visions have been ignored. all the resources are so scattered about and require so many format conversions one could turn to Jyggalag just THINKING about it all. :ninja: :geek:    :psyduck: :wallbash: :excl: ranting and rambling now, im just trying to say angrybuffalo is dead on the money- we (uninitiated-unexperienced modder hopefuls) essentially have no way to see our ideas realized with no actual COMMUNITY and just a couple million dreamers rehashing the same problems since the 11-11-11 release. the Interesting NPCS and the full Tamriel project teams are the god-muse-heroes for me right now and that im sure those just started with one crazy kid with some damn good ideas he brought to others until there was an indie mod crew working TOGETHER blasting out one of the most life-giving mods in the nexus. if any of that sounded bastard-y, sorry. if anyone agrees PLEASE let me know as i am RAVENOUS to work alongside other mad guys and gals and spin a twisted tale or two Bben, you are right. It is not what he had in mind. You are talking a million miles farther from what we could ever want nor organize to doom modding. Already there are standards, already there needs to be changes to how it all goes down in the end, and things can ALWAYS go ten times better than a resistance to organizing. He is not wrong, it is possible to do better with organizing. You are imagining a trap, but we will never move on to better places if you are always afraid of something going wrong.
  12. Sir, you are wrong for this... Modding is based on the desire of each individual modder to work. But you are only attacking that desire for those who never will be able to do what they ask for. There is a reason mod requests will never be answered or taken up. It is because of people's thinking, like yours. I smell your mentality, it is palpable and the only reality you can quote. Having spent the time to experience and understand the pressing question of mindset, I must say it often comes down to a simple choice. You have built up already the idea it is not only improbable their mod will be made, but it is also wrong to ask. If it is wrong to ask, I dare say, it must be wrong to make. In truth, we all should know better that not everyone has spent their life working to have the skills to answer these mod requests. We also should be wise enough to know that mods are for us all, whoever makes them or doesn't. There are times when a good idea is out there in the hands of those incapable. Ideas are not a dime a dozen. Each are unique and individual, just inasmuch as we are individuals. You can try and say there is no original mod idea in the requests, but then that also invalidates the purpose of any modder who does not answer a request. Together we all feel proud and glad to have and share these wonderful mods that are good and excellent. And no matter where our separate attitudes land, we usually have mods we cannot approve of or say was good for the whole. Among the requests there is an idea to be found, to be used, to be shared, like the mods themselves. If the mods are for everyone, then why would no one share the desire for such a requested mod? Why would a modder not ever be able to share the desire for a mod in one of these requests? No. It is propaganda and mentality, what you have taught yourselves in expectations, and nothing more. Further... Are you not making a request of the potential modder, except to not request mods? Or organize their ideas with others? No one has ever taken a mod requester under their wings and helped them make it. You are incapacitating desire, modding, and are what kills the communities of Skyrim and modding altogether. It is another reason why we are rude, vicious, and do not cooperate enough. These requests stand for desires, and belong to all of the community, the modders included. How your message to people ever got pinned on the Mod Requests forums, I do not know. But I hope it is legitimately torn down for all time. A modder might consider another idea for a change. And some might pay attention to what is impossible for many. This I bring before you now, not a Mod request. It is our common desire, but not our common goal. Since this is in the forums for Mod requests, however, I think it can be posted fairly in here to also address the hypocrisy of this attitude. I came on here believing their were only four and a half attemtps, but I stand corrected. There are five and a half, maybe more. It is only the encouragement, desire, support, modding, work, and potential of the whole community which will grant us better modding and a better Skyrim, along with this mod project: http://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/535152511362743333 The question of how can one speak for so many's desire. In the same way we all choose our favorite mods and all speak for ourselves. This is what we need and want. It has too been called impossible, only a request, and belittle beyond belief and merit. Now we cannot ignore the problems of arrogance and a restricted way of thinking any longer. You are free to ask just as modders are free to act without concordance with the common practices and logic of the community. Do not listen to him. Not any words like his. Do what you can and want to. But do not let others decide if you have any chance or validity in your requests so they never have to look at them again. They are asking you just as much as you ask them. It is an old kind of war and it is better to think, make the right choice, and pay attention. And now we need us to throw aside forsaking to accomplish something which will extend the modding on this game for years more.
