  1. I recently upgraded my computer with a new motherboard, CPU, RAM - and a clean install (NOT an upgrade, I completely formatted my hard drive) to Windows 10 (was previously on Win7 64-bit). Prior to upgrading I had been playing Skyrim just fine, but since the upgrade I've been suddenly experiencing load issues (the game will go into 'not responding' mode with the load circle, effectively doubling load times if not more, though it will eventually load if left alone) and eventually crashes, every single time. With the holidays I hadn't had a chance to take a look at what the issue could be until today, but I think I've finally narrowed down the problem: window mode. First thing I did was uninstall the game, delete my skyrim folders in both steamapps/common and documents/my games (after backing them up of course), and reinstalling fresh. I even had Steam verify the integrity of the game files for good measure. Then I forced myself to sit through the whole Helgen sequence on a brand new character on pure vanilla Skyrim - no mods, no SKSE, not even an ENB until I got down to Riverwood. Then I tested these things one at a time. ENB didn't cause any issues, nor did just running SKSE through MO with nothing but SkyUI, Static Mesh Improvement and Vivid Landscapes. Before I had uninstalled I had already tried running a brand new vanilla save without SKSE or MO (just using the Steam launcher) and I was still having the issues, so I already figured it shouldn't be related to SKSE or any of my mods...especially since, as I said, I was having no issues at all on Windows 7 before the upgrade using these same mod profiles and saves. So since it was now working fine with a fresh install and ENB wasn't the cause either, I figured I could load up one of my existing saves and see how that worked. Just like that, I had the problem again. First, I thought it was OneTweak, so I disabled that - and instantly the problem stopped. When I re-enabled it, it started again. So I thought, problem solved!! Then I tried turning on forced borderless in enblocal.ini...same problem. So I thought, is it just forcing borderless that's the problem in general? And tried setting the game to Windowed mode with the launcher from Steam. Turns out, regular windowed mode has the same exact problem too. No matter what save I try it on, from old ones to the brand new fresh-outta-Helgen one I just made, and whether it's with or without running it from the SKSE launcher...I get the 'not responding' load screens, and when I do finally load, after running around for about 5 minutes and playing the game, I will CTD every time. When I did my initial Helgen tests, I was doing so in fullscreen without issue...but now when I try to turn on fullscreen I get this obnoxious incessant screen flickering. But besides that, I don't want to play in fullscreen anyway - I never have before, and I would rather not have to now. I like being able to alt-tab out and use other programs, which I can't do if I run the game in fullscreen. So fixing the issues running in WINDOW MODE are priority to me more than fixing the fullscreen flickering...I just thought I should mention that too, since I didn't have flickering before, but now I do. I'm not sure what could have changed in that regard, either, because it still flickers if I run straight vanilla through steam. TL;DR neither of these problems should related to SKSE or mods in any way because they happen even if I run vanilla. But since I never had them in Windows 7, it has to be somehow related to Windows 10. And my hardware has been UPGRADED from what it was before, so I can't imagine THAT could be the issue...if anything, shouldn't things be loading faster and running better now that I have an improved CPU and more RAM? And my graphics card is the same GTX 960 that it was before. Other games are also running just fine, including things like The Witcher 3. It's only Skyrim where I'm having this issue. I'm just completely stumped as to how I had no problems running the game or dealing with these crashes on Windows 7 on crappier hardware, but now I can't even play the game on a brand new save file without long loads and CTDs after 5 minutes of playtime, unless I play in fullscreen (assuming I could fix the flickering) - which I do not want to do. And I know this seems to be a common issue because googling it showed a lot of other people who have had this problem...but I'm not finding any solutions that actually work for me, either. So I'm not sure I'll get any new information from posting this, but...I'm out of ideas of my own so it felt like it was worth a shot.
  2. I feel silly now. It seems like it WAS my ENB, but USLEEP was *not* innocent. It seems that if you have ExpandSystemMemoryX64 in enblocal.ini set to TRUE, it has compatibility and CTD issues with USLEEP. Mine was set to true. I set it to false (after deleting all my ENB files and reinstalling just to be sure) and things seem to be back in working order. So, it was a result of installing USLEEP after all, since I never had problems with that ENB config previously...but USLEEP itself wasn't the culprit. I'm glad I didn't have to completely reinstall, at least!! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I feel like I was stumbling around in the dark there wondering which of my .esp mods could have been to blame, but it had nothing to do with any actual mods to begin with!!
  3. The only mod that needed its master updated, at least according to the master-switching script, was Unlimited Bookshelves, and then I went and grabbed the USLEEP .esp from the downloads section on that anyways. I use Mod Organizer, and it's not reporting any missing masters in any of the mods I currently have enabled. I have not yet rebuilt my bashed patch, I can try to do that. I don't believe I have any other merged patches or skyproc patches. I run Skyrim through the SKSE shortcut in MO, and my SKSE is up-to-date. I assume Skyrim is, too, though I'm not sure how to check? I just have Steam automatically download updates to my games so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be. http://i.imgur.com/YyhLww8.png I didn't try generating new .ini files, would I just do that by deleting/moving them and letting the game create new ones? The only thing I can think of at this point is that the master switching patcher I used in tes5edit messed something else up, somehow. I don't know how I could have done it wrong since I followed the instructions carefully, and the only mod I was told got its master changed from USKP to USLEEP was Unlimited Bookshelves. But is it possible it could have messed up one of my master files? Because the ONLY mods I had loaded when I just attempted a fresh start at Helgen were Skyrim.esm, Update.esm, HearthFires.esm, Dawnguard.esm, Dragonborn.esm and Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch.esp. I just can't figure out what could be causing the problem to persist even when I disable every other mod from my load order. I even disabled non-esp mods like textures and animations JUST to be thorough, but my game still crashed as soon as I went to follow Hadvar into the tunnel. How would I re-download the defaults for all my masters so I can re-clean them? Would that be any help? In the meantime I'll try some of your other suggestions that I haven't yet and edit this post if anything changes.
  4. I don't even know how to troubleshoot this, but I've been trying to get my game working again for the past 3 hours after I decided to swap out the Unofficial Skyrim Patches for USLEEP after finding a mod I liked that required it as a master. Now, nothing is working, regardless of whether I load existing saves or attempt to start a new game, with or without mods, and I cannot figure out why. I'll try to go over what I did to the best of my memory. I wanted to try the mod Enchanting - Spellsword, which requires USLEEP as a master. I'd been reluctant to switch from the four standalone Unofficial Patches thus far, for a few reasons...one, it seemed like a hassle to get working with all my other mods that might break. Two, it seemed like something that could break existing savegames, something I was not willing to risk even if it meant cutting down on some .esp clutter. And third...I don't actually own the 'Legendary Edition', but had purchased all three DLCs individually. I'm fairly confident that it's the same either way, as long as you have all the DLC masters, but I was never entirely sure if USLEEP would only work with the ACTUAL 'Legendary Edition' package, so I didn't want to bother with it. But after a bit of googling, it sounded like it wouldn't break anything provided you used TES5Edit to change any dependent masters (for which there is a handy-dandy script), so I decided to go for it. I followed the instructions for the script and all seemed to go as intended. I only had one active mod for this save's loadout that had USKP as a master (Unlimited Bookshelves) so I used the script to change the master. However, upon loading up my game again, I got a CTD. Then I noticed that Unlimited Bookshelves had an individual .esp for USLEEP already, uninstalled the USKP version, and installed the USLEEP version instead, assuming once again that I'd be good to go. Nope. Again, the game crashed as soon as I attempted to load an existing save (and I tried a few)...well, I foresaw this as a possibility, and didn't really mind having to restart on this particular character, since he was new already and I'd only played him for about two hours. So I went to start a new game with Alternate Start. I was taken through the character creation process without issue, until it was time to sleep in the bed...once again, CTD. I tried again, this time choosing the option to escape from the cell. Upon reaching the exit of the dungeon, same thing - CTD. So clearly, whatever was going on was triggering on a change of location. I tried several things, like disabling and enabling Unlimited Bookshelves, swapping the USKP patches back in instead of USLEEP, USKP + Unlimited Bookshelves as well as without it...I even disabled ALL OF MY MODS, so that my load order contained nothing but my cleaned master files and USLEEP, and started a new game the old-fashioned way. 10+ minutes after sitting through the damn Helgen intro, it's time to escape into the tunnel...and sure enough, opening the door immediately gave me a CTD. So I know for sure it has to be USLEEP, and not even a USLEEP conflict with another mod...unless it can conflict with my cleaned masters, somehow? Also worth noting that my ENB (Grim and Somber Hircine) is broken, as well. ENB Series still starts with the game just fine, my ENB prefs open with the hotkey, and there even appears to be a change when I hit Shift + F12 to toggle the preset off...but when it's 'on', it just looks like vanilla to me. Here are some screenshots for comparison. http://imgur.com/a/GRz7Z I'm at a complete loss, here. I was playing just fine earlier today until I decided to install USLEEP...and now nothing is working, old save or new, with mods or without. What am I missing, here? Do I have to re-clean my masters after installing USLEEP? Rebuild my bashed patch? I tried with the bashed patch disabled and enabled, same result. What are my options, here? Do I have to rebuild my Steam cache files? Reinstall completely? Re-clean all my masters? What happens to all my old saves? I don't care about losing the character I started today, but I certainly care about my previous ones...what I don't understand is why my game is broken now even if I turn off all mods except for the official masters and USLEEP, or why I can't get things back to normal simply by disabling USLEEP and re-enabling the USKPs...no matter what I do, it's CTD. I'm also not posting a load order because the game crashed even with no mods enabled except for USLEEP. I'm fairly sure the only thing I have ever installed manually is ENB. Worth noting that (short of once or twice when I was experimenting) my game isn't crashing on startup. I get the main menu just fine, it's when I try to load a save that the game crashes. Or, in some cases (loading my old savegame with the old load order intact, as well as my attempts to start a new file), I can load the game just fine, and play around as normal, until the moment I try to enter a new worldspace (like opening a door or falling asleep in the bed for Alternate Start). All I know is, I installed USLEEP, and now I cannot play Skyrim no matter what I try. Any kind of help or insight would be appreciated. I haven't played Skyrim in months, and got the motivation to start a new character...now I can't. :/
  5. I'm about ready to give up. Things are just getting weirder and weirder. Forcing Drelas via EFF definitely solved the issue of saving and reloading without having him disappear...but now after starting the game again he's gone. I didn't have trouble the other night after forcing him, and I didn't play yesterday. Now he's gone, and EFF's Leader Teleportation isn't transporting him to me either - though it plays the effect as though it is. Leader Telepathy does however bring up the menu to command him with...I can still tell him to wait, relax, dismiss, and even access his inventory (not his equipment though, if I try nothing happens). So it's like...he's still there with me, but he's turned invisible. More perplexing still is that when I tell him to wait (via the Telepathy power), I get the message 'Drelas is waiting for you' and a map marker appears right about where I'm standing, as though he is, in fact, just invisible... Yet the console throws errors at me if I try moveto player, and if I do a player.moveto I just teleport 2 feet in front of me. All signs pointing to him still being with me, yet he's otherwise totally invisible - and not just that I can't see him, because walking over near the compass marker placed when I tell him to wait doesn't bring up any interact button prompts either, and there's no collision, so he seems to genuinely not be there. But the game (particularly EFF) treats him like he is. I think my only hope is to dismiss him and hope he goes back home and I can find him later. Otherwise, I guess the lesson to take away from this is to not barge into other peoples' houses uninvited, kill them, resurrect them and try to force them into servitude. Shame, because he had such potential to be an interesting character...
  6. I think I solved the problem, kinda. I went back to his cottage, got attacked, etc, made him friendly again via the console. Only instead of using the console to make him a potential follower, after I reset his faction information for EFF, I went into the MCM and used the 'force' option. Now instead of having to go through 'follow me', he was instantly tagged as a follower who I could now command to wait, follow, and everything else via the EFF menu. I tested this with a few save/reloads, fast travels, entering and exiting different buildings and so on, and he doesn't seem to be resetting anymore. Maybe he would if I dismissed him, but I don't intend to anytime soon (if I don't want him I'm more likely to tell him to wait at my house). So hopefully this has fixed that issue. However, it seems like FCO is no longer working with him as it was before. I've had him following me for a while while testing this out and he doesn't say anything new anymore, or anything at all unless I speak to him/have him wait (where I get the general 'yes, sera?' and 'what is it you want' lines, which I got before installing FCO just by turning him friendly in the console). So I may have broken FCO, at least with him. I'll try reinstalling FCO to see if that fixes it, otherwise, it's a shame to lose that extra layer of personality...but I'm glad I at least (hopefully) got him fixed as a permanent follower.
  7. Crap, I didn't actually have any saves from before the point where I killed him. I didn't even consider that...is the game reviving him whenever I reload a save and putting him back in his default state because of that? And is there a way to reset it? I'll give those EFF commands a try and see if that does anything. Sounds like it might force him out of the mode where he'll no longer follow me, but will probably still get reset to hostile whenever I reload a save...I'll see if anything happens though.
  8. I'm having a little trouble turning a vanilla NPC into a follower with the console. Let me elaborate. I stumbled onto Drelas' Cottage. Looked it up and found out that, despite being named, Drelas is inconsequential and will just attack you on sight. But he was CRAZY STRONG, and for me he was wearing one of my armor set mods added to the leveled list and I just thought he looked pretty cool. So after I killed him, I decided to revive him and try to turn him into a follower. Which was a bit tricky finding the right combination of setav mood/aggression, relationshiprank and addtofaction (first time using the console, really). But I did manage to get him to stop trying to murder me, become friendly, and then added as a potential follower. This is where it got a bit trickier. After telling him to follow me, he did. However, it didn't seem to 'stick'. If a save was reloaded, or the game was exited and reopened, I would lose him as a follower. If I was outside the cottage he was nowhere to be found. If I went back into the cottage I'd sometimes find him back there (most of the time, but there were a few instances in my save/reload/console stuff trial-and-error where he was just gone), and if he was, he'd attack me on sight again and I had to make him friendly all over again. Obviously this wasn't quite working out. I decided to look into some follower mods at this point - before that, hadn't used any, so I don't think I had any mods that could have been affecting him - and decided to go with EFF. I also tried AFT (did not make a save file with it so uninstalling wouldn't leave anything behind) but overall liked the look of the EFF interface more, especially since I play with a controller. Anywho, I did the same thing as before to make Drelas friendly and add him as a follower through the console, at which point he became usable through EFF. Also grabbed Follower Commentary Overhaul and suddenly Drelas was actually an interesting character. So we went adventuring for a bit. Killed some dragons, fought some draugr...good times. He stuck with me through it all, fast-traveling without issue, consuming his iNeed food through his equipment inventory, etc. My mistake, however, was that I guess I DIDN'T try to save/reload once I got him hooked to EFF (I swore I had). Inside a draugr tomb we got surrounded by a whole army of 'em, and I died. Upon reloading the last save...Drelas had turned hostile again. He started spouting 'never should have come here' like I was still trespassing in his cabin, and started shooting ice bolts at me. Moreover, he had reverted back to his vanilla gear of plain, boring black robes instead of his awesome Black Mage Armor. Of course, he also lost the backpack and accessories I'd crafted for him when we were still on good terms, his inventory being completely reset when my save reloaded. So I tried turning him friendly again like last time...it would have sucked losing all my stuff (at least I didn't give him anything super important to carry), but I could make him follow again, right? Wrong. Even re-adding him to the follower faction and getting the 'follow me' option...it didn't work. I could tell him to follow me until the cows came home and he wouldn't budge. Talking to him again would only produce the 'follow me' option, no vanilla follower menu nor EFF functions. He still said 'let's not waste any time' as though he WAS going to follow me, but Drelas wasn't going anywhere. TL;DR, my problem is twofold: 1) is there a way to make a vanilla NPC (who is 'safe' because they have no bearing on the story or any quests, like Drelas) into a follower PERMANENTLY, in a way that doesn't reset as soon as you reload a save? And 2) is there a way to force him back into the EFF (or even vanilla) follower framework now that he's 'stuck' and no longer listening when I tell him to follow me? And as I said - issue 1) was occurring BEFORE I installed EFF and FCO, and I don't have any other mods that should affect how followers or NPCs in general behave aside from those. I'll post my load order if it'll help, but I can't help but feel this issue is unrelated to any of my mods. Sorry for the wall of text. Hopefully someone can shed some light on the issue, though.
