While it's possible that you may find someone to make this mod for you, I do hope you realize how difficult your request is. Not so much difficult in terms of creating a character that looks like Cass in F4, but you are asking for her to be voiced. The original Cass was voiced by Rachel Roswell, a professionally paid voice actor. If you really want that, I do hope you have a lot of money to pay Rachel, if you can even get her to agree to record lines for your mod.

Another wonderful interview with a fantastic mod author! Fading has added so many amazing mods and while I am really looking forward to trying his latest explosives mod, True Storms will always hold a special place in my heart and my load order. I live in a place with a lot of rain storms almost year round, and the vanilla rain in Skyrim and Fallout 4 were never as realistic as what True Storms achieves. I do have to wonder if any of the storm sounds were recorded live as opposed to being artificially created, since there are a few times when a really deep boom of thunder sounded and it actually made my cats react. Normally, even with loud in-game weather, they just ignore it completely.

The Sunday Discussion - SmartBlueCat - Author of 'Inigo'
Sarinia replied to TheTokenGeek's topic in Site Updates
Another wonderful interview and with such a great mod author. Inigo is my favorite Skyrim companion (although I admit I haven't used Vilja yet, so she may be a close second). I love the layered story and the progression of getting to know Inigo in such an organic way. I am truly looking forward to v3 once it's ready. -

In the next week, I'll be adding the second part of my CatDeco mod series which focuses on adding many color options of pre-war furniture and decor items. The first version will include diner booths and tables, plus an assortment of retextured kitchen/dining accessories such as plates, bowls, pots and pans, etc. After that, it's back to my first CatDeco mod to see if I can finally get the first round of wallpapers added. -

@Vasabi90 - please read Dark0ne's comments on the thread that SMB92 linked. His statements agree with mine regarding mod copyrights, but I believe he makes it much clearer. -

@Vasabi90 - Please keep in mind that Greekrage's request for compensation is a totally separate matter from copyright laws and it should not be used to justify copyright infringement. Trying to get him to revoke his statement about blocking use of his mods to 'fix' what you may perceive as bad behavior on his part is also not appropriate. It is his choice, as the owner of the copyright to decide who can and cannot reproduce or host his work. -

Indicating the identity of the legal owner/creator of a mod does not negate the legal requirement to have their permission PRIOR to hosting that mod. I will be more specific here. Another site does have the legal right to list a mod and the author, provided that they do not actually host the file for download or link directly to the files where they are hosted here on the Nexus. Hosting the file on their own site without the mod author's specific permission is against the law. -

Please see the below, as we are talking about copyright, as long as the mod is made for one of the Bethesda/Zenimax games: Below is the specific section from the Zenimax Terms of Service regarding the copyright they extend to mod authors. The color added is my own, but the text is copied directly from the Terms of Service Agreement, which can be viewed in its entirety here: http://https://www.z.../legal_terms_us Zenimax's Terms of Service Agreement Section 2 - Content D. Game Mods Content also includes Game Mods. The term “Game Mod” means downloadable, user-generated Content developed or created by You or a third party using an Editor Tool (as defined below). In certain cases, as determined by ZeniMax, Game Mods may be made available to other users of a Service or a Game and in such cases, such other users may download the Game Mods from ZeniMax or third parties and use such Game Mods in connection with playing a Game or receiving a Service from ZeniMax. If You desire to develop or create one or more Game Mods, then You will be required to download from a ZeniMax website or otherwise gain access to via a ZeniMax website one or more software tools through which You may create or develop Game Mods (each such tool is an “Editor Tool”). To obtain a copy of or get access to any such Editor Tool, You will be required to agree to the terms of a separate EULA (the “Editor EULA”). If there is a conflict between the terms and conditions in any such Editor EULA and the terms and conditions in these Terms of Service, the terms in the Editor EULA will control over the conflicting terms in these Terms of Service but solely for purpose of the specific Editor Tool and not for any other purpose. Please review the terms in the Editor EULA carefully. With respect to Game Mods made available for download from a ZeniMax website or made available from a ZeniMax server, ZeniMax may, at any time and in its sole discretion, elect to remove such Game Mods from the ZeniMax website(s) or server(s) without notice to You. Each Game Mod is owned by the developer of the Game Mod, subject to the licenses granted by the developer to ZeniMax as set forth in the Editor EULA. ZeniMax may, but is not required under this Agreement to, validate, test, evaluate or pre-screen Game Mods. ZeniMax does not endorse, sponsor, guaranty or approve any Game Mods, including without limitation Game Mods available for download from a ZeniMax website. Your experience with any particular Game Mod may vary from other users’ experiences. IF YOU ELECT TO INSTALL, DOWNLOAD OR USE ANY GAME MODS, YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. EXCEPT AS PROHIBITED BY APPLICABLE LAW AND SUBJECT TO THE STATUTORY OBLIGATIONS (AS DEFINED IN SECTION 1), ZeniMax reserves the right (but has no obligation except as required by law) to OFFER, make available, REVIEW, remove, block, edit, move or disable GAME MODs for any reason, with or without notice, and HAS no liability of any kind WITH RESPECT TO GAME MODs, including WITHOUT LIMITATION when ZeniMax determines that a GAME MOD violates THESE TERMS OF SERVICE, the EDITOR EULA. The decision to remove a GAME MOD at any time is in ZeniMax's sole and final discretion. To the maximum extent permitted by law, ZeniMax does not assume any responsibility or liability for GAME MODs or for the removal of any GAME MODs FOR any failure to or delay in removing, any GAME MOD. Section 17 - Intellectual Property Infringement ZeniMax respects the intellectual property rights of others, and requires that those who use its Services do the same. ZeniMax will terminate the Account of any user who is responsible for any or repeated acts of intellectual property infringement. You may not, and by using the Services You agree not to, use the Services to transmit material: (i) that is copyrighted, unless You are the copyright owner or have obtained the permission of the copyright owner to transmit it; (ii) that reveals trade secrets, unless You own them or have the permission of the owner to so transmit them; or (iii) that infringes on any Intellectual Property Rights, as defined below, of others or violates the privacy or rights of publicity of others. For purposes of these Terms of Service, the term "Intellectual Property Rights" means, collectively, rights under patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret laws, and any other intellectual property or proprietary rights recognized in any country or jurisdiction worldwide, including, without limitation, moral rights and similar rights. (Below that Zenimax provides the address and documentation requirements to submit a DMCA notice). -

Translation: If we are talking about respect, I can tell you that very many authors write in their papers: "Please treat with respect to my work and ask me for permission to change the use and content." That is, we are not talking about copyright, and about the relationship between users. If I made a mistake and do something wrong, then I, as a normal human being apologize and try to correct this error. But in response I would expect a normal reaction of the counter, rather than the requirements of a certain amount! This is called "respect" !!! I apologize if you took my responses as disrespectful or personally directed at you, it was not intended that way. My intention was to be clear about the legal side of this discussion, which has come up several times in the past. The more people are told the wrong information regarding mod copyrights for Bethesda games, the more issues it will cause in the future. -

All true, but You deftly silent about the fact that their copyright is still necessary to join, by submitting a request. The fact that someone put his name under a certain title does not mean that he became full owner of valuable rights to it. And Your comparison with shop in this case is not correct - the store is initially created for the SALE of goods here, all content is free and the "resolution" didn't just appear. If the author does not consider it necessary either to specify to him, that he was not against the distribution and use of your content! In any case we are arguing now is not about that! The problem is that the author tried to extort money from the administration of the site, and when this had not happened just inflated hype because of his laziness, greed and incompetence, trying to present himself as the victim! Everything is quite simple!!! First, copyright is inherent. The owner of that copyright is not required to ever post any notice stating that they ban others from using their copyrighted material, because the right to allow or disallow others from using their work is always their choice, as is the right to change their mind at a later date and revoke any permission previously given. If someone else wants to use copyrighted material, they MUST have permission from the copyright owner. Either in the form of a blanket statement that 'anyone' can use the material as they see fit, or by contacting the owner and getting explicit permission. Please review copyright laws before making false statements such as you have been making here. Second, this forum thread is about the theft of mods, i.e. mods being posted on another site that is making money via advertising off that stolen material without the permission (or likely the knowledge) of the original mod authors/copyright owners. If you believe that Greekrage's actions were a violation of the Nexus Terms of Service, then please discuss that with a moderator. Trying to justify theft with the excuse that the person who was stolen from is a "bad person" is not acceptable. Ever. -

Wrong again. The law does not allow others to take what does not belong to them just because the owner didn't state that such theft could not be done. That would be like stating that someone can walk into a store and take whatever they want just because there is no sign at the front stating that you can't take things from the store without paying. The law states that you are not allowed to use copyrighted material without the express permission of the copyright owner. LACK OF PERMISSION IS NOT PERMISSION. -

Wrong. Copyright is inherent to the copyright owner at the moment of creation. Lack of a statement granting permission is NOT the same as granting permission. -

Sarinia replied to greekrage's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Please note that Bethesda gives Mod Authors full copyright on their mod, with Bethesda getting a limited license for use if they chose to exercise it. If a mod author states in their permissions section or in the description tab that anyone is free to reupload their mod to another site, then it would not be stealing. However, as Greekrage pointed out, if the mod author does not state either way that others can use their work, then anyone wanting to do so must get their clear permission. Otherwise, per international copyright laws, use of another's copyrighted material without permission is stealing. -
In response to post #47160845. #47161255, #47166660, #47168055, #47171165 are all replies on the same post. @Blindjudge - Another great collection of useful mods, some of which I had not seen before. Thanks to the staff for sharing. @Greekrage - I didn't submit your mod, but I was very happy to see it included here. All of your rebuilt settlement mods are outstanding. Kudos!

Wonderful interview. It's always great to learn more about Mod Authors and Gambit77 has created/collaborated on some truly fantastic mods. I can't imagine trying to play Fallout 4 without his mods. As much as I love AE and AWKCR, I think my favorite mod of his has to be Weaponsmith Extended. Yes, it took a little time to get installed compared to some plug-and-play mods, but the benefits gained (the vast amount of new options and the seamlessly integrated features) were more than worth the time. I can only imagine how long it took to make that mod, so the little bit of time I had to take to install it is meaningless compared to that.

@Elianora - I look forward to hearing your interview, and I wish you all the best in your mod-making endeavors. To those who have commented regarding any potential negative attitude they feel that Eli has displayed, I have used many of her mods, I have commented and have even asked a question AFTER I took the time to read the information she provided, didn't ask the questions that she had already replied to in that documentation, and remembered to be respectful to a very talented artist (yes, artist, not a mass manufacturer or seller of generic consumer products). The result? I got a polite response from her. For those people looking for an analogy for mod use, rather than comparing it to a store (since you are not required to pay for your mods on Nexus), it would be much more accurate to compare it to going to a museum to look at artwork and maybe (if you like what you see), getting a free copy or replica to take home. It wasn't painted for you personally, but you get to enjoy it if you wish. If the museum has a showing on Impressionism and you don't like that art style, then don't go to the museum in the wing where that type of art is being featured. Yes, you can still talk to your family and friends about liking or not liking a mod, just as you are free to tell them if you like or don't like Rembrandt or some new artist who just started and most people don't know about yet. You are free to tell them that in your own space or on general social media. However, the Louvre does not hang a list of viewer's comments on the wall under the Mona Lisa. Because your personal opinion of the painting doesn't make it any more or less valid to the other people viewing it and because they have the right to decide for themselves what they think of it without your input. Reporting bugs and providing constructive criticism does have a place, but trying to force your personal opinion on a mod, the mod genre, or the attitude of the mod author, does not unless they are breaking the Nexus' Terms of Service (as Lisnpuppy pointed out).

I really enjoyed DDProductions 'GTKYMA - Get to Know Your Mod Author' series, and I am so happy to see that Nexus has taken that idea and made it into a regular feature. Thanks to BlindJudge and Nexus for their work on this great idea along with everything the Nexus already does so well, and I look forward to reading more. As for Chesko, it was fabulous to see this outstanding mod author in the first feature. I was pleasantly surprised to see how many things we have in common such as starting points (although I started from the Commodore Vic20 before moving on to the C64), and experiencing the fun and creativity of being a DM for a D&D group. As for his mods, like many others, the one that had the most impact on me was Frostfall. I had played Skyrim with improved textures and a few other mods, but when I installed Frostfall, it was like playing a whole new game. And I loved it. So, huge thanks to Chesko for the great mods he's created and I look forward to seeing what else he brings to the modding community.

AMA with Robin Scott - Tuesday 6th September
Sarinia replied to TheTokenGeek's topic in Site Updates
I'm seen some of the notes from mod authors that they now have a discord group set-up. They mention that asking them questions or getting updates and previews of what's coming next for their mods is much easier there. I haven't had a chance to try it myself, but I look forward to doing so when i have the time. Thanks for constantly moving forward to embrace new technologies. -
@Ethreon - All good points that I didn't consider. You're already doing a lot more than you ever had to do. :)

I have a somewhat odd question that is more just asking for your opinions than help (for once). I have been working on something for my own use and thought that it might be of value to some others. I'm fairly sure that after the CK comes out in April, someone will figure out how to enhance the UI (along the lines of SkyUI). One feature I would like to see is the ability to search on items in the construction menus, so that if the keywords limit can't be easily overcome, the larger menus which result from using lots of Settlement Building Mods with SK would be less of an issue. For now I wanted an easier way to find some things (like radios and refrigerators) that get added by the mods. I've started a Master Recipe List that includes (at least at the summary level) the location in the new SK menus for items added by settlement building mods. I am part of the way through Homemaker at the moment, but have already finished Alternate Settlements, Snap 'n' Build, DD All-In-One, NX Pro Farming, OCDecorator, Craftable Weapon Racks, Robot Home Defense, Foundation Building Blocks, a few smaller mods. I plan to add in more items from other smaller mods as I have the time (likely updates on weekends as my time during the week is pretty limited). By having the craftable items listed, if I need to find something, I can just do a search within the document and see immediately which menu it is available under, rather than spending time scrolling through menus that are 100+ items. My question is, do you think that anyone else would be interested in having a copy for their own use? If so, I could upload it once I finish going through Homemaker and cleaning up the doc a little. On the other hand, if it wouldn't really be of any use, then I won't bother. @Ethreon - I saw that you are helping with/took over the clean-up/admin of SSEX. Thank you. Is there any chance that since NovaCoru has already stated that she is getting burned out, there might be a merged global mod in the future which both authors could have the option of contributing to (if they have time), but would otherwise become the primary settlement build mod? Just a thought, since I know that you are well-versed in making sure the objects have all the bells and whistles (i.e. simple intersection options, fixed/more snapping points, full SK compatibility, etc.).
-
ValdacilBugFixes was one of the optional compatibility patches included with Valdacil's Item Sorting mod installer. It was only needed if you also used the Simple Bug Fixes mod. Like you, I stopped using Simple Bug Fixes, and have since reloaded Valdacil's without the patch. The last FO4 patch fixed some of the same issues as Simple Bug Fixes (not all of them unfortunately), and I haven't seen an update that only addresses the remaining bugs.

Bless you. You deserve so much thanks. After getting a decent night's sleep, I keep thinking that I'm just missing some basic pieces of the process, and perhaps it's because I'm trying to look at the process logically. Sadly, logic does not always apply. I guess it also drives me a little crazy (er... crazier) because part of my job involves writing technical user manuals and training documents for new applications. To do that I need to be able to learn the software, understand it's function and then translate that into simple terms that a non-technical user can understand. A common problem with having the coders write their own manuals is that they almost always make broader assumptions about how much the end user already knows. One of the first rules of a basic tech training document is to assume the user knows absolutely nothing about the application. Then build up from there. Like how the hell do you create a new blank .esp file? Is that even necessary? Or can you take an entire existing .esp file, duplicate and rename the whole thing to use as a base if you don't want to edit the original? The section of the guide on merging plug-ins starts with stating that you're going merge files into a pre-existing custom file (humorously referenced as Borg) but it never tells you how you made that file to begin with or where in the documentation you can find the instructions to create a new file. Ok, going to stop before I get too frustrated again. If you would be interested in having someone read through your tutorials and provide feedback, I would be happy to assist.

Hello again. I don't want to get this thread off topic, so I'll just ask is there a place where I can get more info on using FO4edit to manually merge mods? I read through the information provided in the TESVEdit Documents. What I was able to find either gives instructions that seem to skip some key steps or they tell you how to make a patch that points back to the original mod as a master. Since I need to merge esps to reduce my plug-ins count, that's not really what I need. I also read the file that StuykGaming posted about making mods with SK. That works great if I am making a new mod, but doesn't really help in merging pre-existing mods together (especially if they have nothing to do with SK). I tried looking online and got more than a bit frustrated as almost everything seems to point you to an automated scripting tool (such as merge plug-ins xEdit Script by Mator or the stand alone version) or they tell you you can't use the automated scripts with Fallout 4 and have to do it manually. So is there any place I can look to find a tutorial on manually merging mods other than the TESVEdit docs? Sorry, but after spending hours looking from site to site and reading a bunch of forums (even here on Nexus) it just seems to feel like it's been a waste of time for something that should not be that difficult. As a note, I have no issues opening FO4Edit, loading up my mods, running conflict filters, etc. I can look at the properties and see exactly what I want to edit, it's just getting all the data into a file that I can actually do something with since I don't want to edit the original esp. * sigh *
