  1. It's also worth noting that I play my PC version of Skyrim on a 50 inch 3D TV wall mounted in my living room with surround sound behind my lush, custom built suede corner sofa. Am I gonna sit on my sofa with a laptop tray playing games? No because I'm not some chavvy scumbag. So yeah, really love that you enjoy your KB/m combos sitting at a desk and getting a numb backside - keep going at it. My theory is all these little uber geeks who flame people for having an opinion on a controller have been warped from years of being hunched over their messy little desks like gargoyles. Good luck with that, I'll stick to my sofa and also stick to the notion that if you enjoy being hunched up and getting RSI, that's entirely your thing - I really hope you enjoy it, because the amount of time people spend dedicating to flaming people on this subject, says something very clearly about your emotional state.
  2. controller is better than a Kb/m for single player games. I hate these discussions. Full of nothing but flamers and trolls trying to beat their chests over a MATTER OF PREFERENCE. It's a single player game. I use the xbox controller too. Can't do it with online games for obvious reasons but if you can't use a controller to get good enough to play a single player game, then you're an idiot. As soon as you say "xbox controller" on one of these forums, all the idiots pop out spouting the usual "oh it's so inaccurate blah blah blah". Honestly it's pathetic. Get over yourselves.
  3. Too many regional accents for my liking. And too many American colloquialisms - I cannot remember any off hand but some of the characters say stupid country bumpkin stuff like they're from the backwoods of some horrible little town in the US. Don't get me wrong, in Fallout, those voices worked perfectly. In Skyrim - this is a different thing. Hate to say it, but the voices should have been English. I'm not just beating my chest and being territorial - but it's a fact. Can you imagine Game of Thrones acted in American accents? Look how stupid, and f***ing moronic, Season of the Witch was with Nick Cage...English crusaders in the 14th century running around Europe with modern American accents (to make it worse, the English actors also forced to use american accents)... Just doesn't work for me. The European accents are sometimes a bit annoying too - but slightly more believable, as you get the idea that these accents come from people who's native language wasn't "Skyrim-ish" (or English) - they feel region to the correct place. But the US accents and voices feel forced, overplayed, and downright ridiculous. As I say, not an "ohh no americans" thing - its just certain characters and the phrases they utter which comes right out of some 50s american comic book. And yeah, the little kids too...sound like pudding bowl haircut "first graders" straight out of kiddy acting school - horrible. Arguably, some of the voices are game breaking sillyness - well, at least atmosphere breaking anyway.
  4. I doubt it'll be Morrowind..... Although I wish that Skyrim was part of a bigger project. Ideally I'd like to have seen this kind of thing: Skyrim released as the FIRST part of a major release of 6 games in the world of Tamriel - first Skyrim, then a massive updated and reversion of Morrowind, Oblivion, and the very original Elder Scrolls games (which I never played)....ideally a quote from Bethesda pre-release of Skyrim would say something like this: "we've been dreaming of this project for years - a massive single player experience involving all the previous Elder Scrolls games and storylines. We've found a way of mashing together a cogent narrative that includes all the lore of the previous games mixed seemlessly with the new Skyrim release. First we'll release Skyrim, whilst at the same time polishing up our re-releases of the previous games. Of course this means a massive graphical overhaul for Morrowind, but for the previous titles we're going even further - we're introducing voiced actors which vary per game, newly designed worlds with nearly a thousand separate locations to discover. All the original stories and characters will be there from our earlier, albeit simpler, games. But this time, it's got Skyrim's engine, and a totally moddable UI screen that can be changed at anytime in game, without the need for modding. You can set up profiles for each region, and of course, travel seemlessly between each game and area using the same character. Plus, there's no limit to how powerful you can get - but of course we'll be making enemies that'll reflect that!" wow...just imagine.
  5. have to get access to this dead vault....!! I sacrificed Lydia to a Boethian Daedric God - some mad cult wanted a sacrifice of a trusted companion...and she was sworn to carry my burdens apparently....then I wiped out the cult, stole all their s***, got some super powered weapon that I've long since sold off or left in a cupboard somewhere, and moved on. I married Aela the Huntress - good bow arms...
  6. My bad habits consist of killing people who don't know the difference between "you're" and "your", those who profess they "could care less" - indicating that they indeed do care about something, and especially people who write "should of" when the correct grammar is "should've".
  7. Thanks for the replies - and especially for being rational about the issues. I think I have a few bottlenecks aside from just the CPU issues that are inherrent to the game - my 54000rpm hd, DDR2 667mhz ram too - but I dunno if this is ignorant but I didn't think they'd cause that - and reading the net it certainly seems these aren't really the issues, although I remember something about the game unpacking its textures very frequently? My HD doesn't thrash about though, so I dunno. Anyway I will check out that ini file now - I think I may have it, just need to check - but thanks either way, its good to hear :) My hd is sata2 and I've no raid array but there is an onboard one - I believe turned off at bios and not used. I'm not gonna pretend to be the expert there though, I absorb whatever I've come across so gaps in my knowledge are what they are. Still the question is raised though if anyone knows of any load balancing software that might exist? I dunno...would be useful too.
  8. Guys if you're frustrated, I have an 8-core machine that's sitting cold while Skyrim heats up half of my first processor! Sure it was never meant for a machine like that, but how frustrating can you imagine it is to sit there with 2x quad core xeons sitting in my machine basically unused for this game.... Lucky its not a gaming rig lol
  9. So I was wondering.... I'm not exactly an avid PC gamer or anything, I just have a few games on my machine and Skyrim is one of them...my machine is actually an 8-core 3D render engine and is really for professional use of programs such as Cinema 4D and After Effects. So from what I can tell, and I admit here *I AM NO EXPERT* but Skyrim seems to be a *censored* with it's core-useage and the sheer amount of data being processed by the CPU. So with my 8 core render machine (which has a GTX590 in it), I was wondering if there was a chance of unlocking my other 4 cores on the 2nd processor....I know its not exactly built for gaming set ups and games will not really touch that 2nd processor - but that's not the issue, I can deal with that...what I'd like to do is push ALL my processes that aren't Skyrim onto my 2nd processor...essentially freeing up my 2.83ghz Quad Xeon completely and allowing Skyrim to run better.... Not that its actually too bad at the moment, I see FPS drop to about 30fps in towns and cities....so it's not a huge issue...but I could probably push more out of it if I could load balance in this way - so my question is, in layman's terms -is this even possible? And could you advise me on how to redistribute my non-skyrim processes to another processor? I realise this post may be a complete pie in the sky - as google hasn't been too forthcoming with "CPU LOAD BALANCING SOFTWARE" results...lol Specs: Dual Xeon Quad Core 2.8ghz E5440 16gb ram GTX590 This week I am adding a 1tb Revodrive hybrid as the OS disk. But not yet/ PS: please don't get all p*ssy with "omgz your using a xeon for gaming" bulls***. It doesn't matter, it's not a gaming machine. It's 3D renderer. Please don't let the thread descend into a discussion on which processors are better and who's mad for buying "hardcore tech" or anything like that. The machine is cheap, well equipped and fast as f**k but it does NOT exist as a gaming machine. It's a graphics renderer!!
  10. try entering windowed mode when you enter the areas? This has solved a few CTD issues for me - also are you approaching from the same place each time? Go to the next nearest location for your fast travel and try go that way....that's all I can offer really... Cheers
  11. Simple level cap remover - continuing to level up and add new perks as normal. This seems so easy compared to what people are knocking out - why not just a simple mod so level 50 isn't the end - and one can build up to 100 on every skill and add every perk, without using console commands to cheat the game. Need to learn how to mod just so I can do this, as it seems no one wants to make something this simple?
  12. You have lense flare in your avatar. Like a BOSS. LOL default lens flare....
  13. It all sounds like a massive pipe dream to me. I know there's some dedicated modders out there but this doesn't feel even remotely achievable. I agree a MP version of Skyrim would be absolutely un...be...liev...able....But personally I'd say the mod community would be better served at concentrating on making Skyrim an even better SP experience.
  14. There's a lot of talk about the boundary to Morrowind can be reached by using the noclip function - and the surrounding provinces are easily seen and there's videos to support it...it's got people talking about potential DLC but I don't think that's necessarily the reason why these "provinces" are mapped out - the reason is there's a quest for a diety called Merida that takes you really high into the sky for a while - on a good day you can see everything pretty much - I assume it's for this reason mainly and the mapping is obviously very basic and doesn't exactly match the provinces in Oblivion....just saying :) although it IS a lot of work, for one quest - but I haven't done 'em all.....
