New file adding "wizard", tagging and more prominent content blocking
kennymcg1995 replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
I do have a couple of problems with the tagging and filtering system. I play exclusively as male characters, so that means I want male armor. When I'm searching, let's say I block the "female armor" tag, hoping to get rid of any CBBE/UNP/whatever female-only mods. The problem with that is that, not only does it get rid of those, oftentimes it also blocks any mods that have BOTH male and female armor sets. I would really like to have tags that are "Female Only" and "Male Only". And this has already been said, but I have every language other than English blocked, but that also ends up blocking English mods that have translations. If I turn it off I have to sift through 100 different Italian versions of the mod I want, but if I turn it on it blocks the actual mod I'm looking for. I have no idea how you would go about solving this dilemma, though. And, on a side note, I LOVE the way the mods are sorted when you search. Especially with the translations, the original English version is almost always first now, which is great. -
Hello everybody. I'm looking for some new stuff for my characters to wear, specifically headgear. Ideally, what I really want is like a tactical headset kind of thing. http://m.cdn.blog.hu/bl/bluray/image/hir/vasember3.jpg This is really the kind of thing I'm looking for, if at all possible. Really anything but the great big "realistic" modern military things with the big earmuffs and whatnot, but more something futuristic like this, or even like a Mission Impossible-style spy type earpiece thing. Any referrals you can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Re-install Skyrim- eleminating mods but keeping progress
kennymcg1995 replied to Sherlyone's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
What they said. ^ Your best bet would be to just start a new game with whatever mods you want to use. If you're completely set on using your old saves, do your best to follow through with the exact Uninstall instructions from the original authors of each mod. If you're just dropping retexture or item mods, you should be fine, but any overhaul mods that use scripts will cause issues unless you uninstall them exactly as the mod author instructs. Even then, that may simply lower your chances of getting issues, not eliminate problems. -
I only have ever used a single mod that affects followers directly, that mod being UFO. I've used it pretty much since it was released with no issues. Early this month I started playing Skyrim again after a 2-3 month break. Before I took a break, I started a new character, and got a follower (Hoth, by hothtrooper44) and all was well. I already have a few more characters that have followers, mainly all of them vanilla NPCs. Now when I play, everything works okay, but my followers won't listen to me at all. I can't tell them to wait, and I can't fire them. The control thing with UFO (like where it brings up a crosshair and you point them somewhere to tell them to wait) works, and they will stop following me if I attack them enough. I tried a bunch of stuff, and finally I just disabled UFO. That seemed to work on my character with just one follower, but any character that had multiple followers is still broken. I've tried all the console commands (set followercount to 0 or whatever, etc.) to no avail. I assume that sometime in the last few months I must have done something stupid and updated UFO the wrong way, like I didn't fire my followers and make a clean save like I was supposed to. The problem is, I've played quite a bit since then, and I seriously doubt I'll be able to go back to a save before this issue happened, especially because it spans across 4 or 5 different player characters. I'm guessing I've dug myself in pretty deep, but just in case, does anyone know of a way I can fix this?

Help with Processors
kennymcg1995 replied to kennymcg1995's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Yeah, definitely 32-bit Windows. I'm on whatever Steam's latest version is, and I'm currently using the Unofficial Patch. I've got rid of the majority of my mods awhile ago. Right now I pretty much have UFO, Realistic Lighting with Customization, and some armor/weapon mods. No ENBs and no other graphical or overhaul mods. Skyrim is the only game I've been having issues with. I can run both Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 at a steady 30-40fps. I can run The Witcher 2 with pretty decent settings and very little, if any, lag. My main concern is the complete lack of warning when it crashes. There's a nice, solid "45" in yellow block letters in the corner of my screen, everything's working great, then BOOM- crash to desktop. Actually, there's a weird thing going on with my main character right now on top of all of this. Sometimes when I go to load a save, the loading screen and everything will finish just fine, but the screen will be completely yellow. It looks like yellow highlighter with my compass overlayed on top of it. It'll do this for a good 10-15 seconds, and fraps will show about 2fps. Then everything will pop in fraps jumps up to 45-50fps and everything is fine. Sometimes when it goes yellow it crashes, others it makes it through and I can play. When I Googled it I got a bunch of results about textures flashing yellow or whatever, but that isn't what this is. There are no meshes, nothing. The screen is solid yellow, and has just my compass overlayed on top. I'm getting the sinking suspicion that the yellow thing is save corruption on my main character, and that may also be what is causing the crashes. I'll try and test it on a different character and see if it still crashes. -
I've been having issues with Skyrim lately. First, it was forcing me to pretty much have all my settings at low, with medium textures. I had no idea why, because my system should easily be able to run the game. Turns out, since I had reinstalled it recently, Steam decided to also install the Hi Res Texture Pack for no reason whatsoever. I quickly got rid of that, and now the game will at least start with High settings. It seemed to run extremely well and it looked great, but then it just crashed out of nowhere in Whiterun. I installed FRAPS, and sure enough, I get a solid 50fps everywhere in Whiterun. I can run around and do whatever. I can fast travel away from Whiterun, I can (usually) fast travel back as well. But there are some things, mainly waiting for more than 4 or 5 hours or leaving/entering cells through doors, that crash. No fps drop at all, no performance drop, just crash to the desktop with no warning or message. All the crashes go away if I drop my settings down to, say, Medium, but it looks terrible, and I shouldn't have to run this game with outrageously low settings compared to everything else. My only theory right now is that this is caused by my processor. I'm going to buy myself a Christmas present (AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition @3.4 GHz) that I hope will eliminate my issues. Oh, and if it matters, it was raining in Whiterun when I was testing this. For some reason the game would crash specifically if I waited, regardless of how long, for it to stop raining. I don't have any weather/rain-related overhaul mods at all though. P.S. This doesn't have anything to do with Whiterun specifically, it has happened in other places. I just used Whiterun as an example because it's pretty heavy on performance usually. Current System Specs:

Running Ultra Skyrim
kennymcg1995 replied to kennymcg1995's topic in Hardware and software discussion
I'm on a MacBook typing right now, but I play games on my desktop at home, which is what I'm looking to upgrade. I meant my desktop motherboard was new, and I should easily be able to get an upgraded CPU for it. I'm definitely not trying to mess with my laptop. Sorry if I was unclear. -
Running Ultra Skyrim
kennymcg1995 replied to kennymcg1995's topic in Hardware and software discussion
I can't remember exactly what my motherboard is, and I'm on my laptop at the moment. It's pretty new and fairly high-end, however, so I shouldn't need to upgrade it anytime soon. My main question at this point is whether or not a new processor will have a noticeable change. Do you think a new processor will significantly improve my specs for Skyrim? I have the $100 to spend, but I would rather save it for something else if it won't make much of a difference. And thanks for the tip about the OS. I was never completely sure how it would work, I was just guessing. I would much rather not have to deal with switching over, and you saved me a ton of wasted reinstallation time. :) -
I have a bit of an issue with running Skyrim. Well, it'll play fine and everything, but I feel like I have my settings way too low. I can play most other (newer) games with highest settings and no issues, but I haven't had much luck with Skyrim. My specs are: nVIDIA GeForce GTX465 AMD Athlon II X2 3.2GHz Hitachi 1TB HDD 4GB RAM Windows 7 32-bit I feel like my "weak link" is my processor. 4GB of RAM should be more than enough for Skyrim. My video card is great and should be able to easily run whatever Skyrim can throw at it. It can run much more graphically intensive games with no hiccups. I'm not talking about running crazy ENB settings (or any ENB at all for that matter). I don't use the Hi-res texture packs, and I only use a few graphics improvement mods (mainly just Realistic Lighting With Customization). Even with all mods uninstalled, except a few armor mods, I can't even start the game with my texture quality at High. Medium is the best I can do. My shadows and decal quantity are both set to low. With my video card I'm pretty positive I should be able to at least do High textures. I definitely plan on upgrading to Windows 7 64-bit (I already have it, I'm just putting it off because it'll take forever to reinstall everything). I don't want to get a SSD because the 1TB HDD I have is less than 6 months old and has plenty of space left on it. The only thing I can think to do is upgrade to a quad-core processor. Will this help, or am I even more technologically ignorant than I thought?

BLOG PIECE: Nexus moderation system overhaul, etiquette and ethos
kennymcg1995 replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
@hector530 "read?! lol you overestimate the majority of the internet we read NOTHING and complain about EVERYTHING." I just want to say, this is one of the greatest quotes of all time. Seriously. On topic, sounds like a great moderation system. This is a huge part of the reason I consistently use the Nexus for all of my mods. Your moderation is incredibly well-kept for such an expansive site. Even more than that, you continue to inform your users about all the big changes, which is something I barely ever see, and definitely not on a site as huge as the Nexus. Well done. -
Hair Won't Show
kennymcg1995 replied to kennymcg1995's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
I fixed it. Apparently a small mod that changed some stuff with Veronica had something changed for the Race list. I made a merged patch with FNVEdit and it all works now. -
I downloaded Lings Coiffure recently looking for some new hairstyles for my male character. I know most of them are pretty effeminate, but I saw a couple decent-looking styles that I think would fit my character well. I downloaded it fine using the "Add Mod from File" thing with the NMM and had no problems. When I go in my game and uses showracemenu, the new hairs don't show. My eyes changed, like the new eye textures that he added, but nothing new shows up. I even went so far as to manually unpack the .BSA file containing all the meshes and textures, and place those directly into the Data folder. No dice. I went into the GECK, and from what I can tell, all the hairs are already added for all the male/female races like they should be. I have no earthly idea what the issue here is. Yes, I have ArchiveInvalidated multiple times to no avail. I have New Vegas Redesigned, and I've tried loading the Lings.esm before and after the NVR.esm, with no change whatsoever. I have exeter's non-nude Type 3 body installed, but that shouldn't matter, right? I do not have a male body mod installed, and I use only vanilla races with no mods that affect/change those. Oh, I also did not activate the "Pretty Things" .esp or whatever it is. Should I have? The only difference I've seen so far is that about halfway through my trial-and-error problem search, I noticed that the Nova hair that I have for Veronica magically got what seemed to be a newer, higher-quality hair texture. No idea where it came from though, and that is the only change at all. Well, besides the eyes. But even then, I only have the options for Blue, Green, Blue-Grey, and Dark Brown vanilla eyes, just with updated textures. Doesn't the mod add a whole bunch of other eye colors/options as well? Thanks for any help you can provide. I apologize if this is a stupid question that's been beat to death. I've spent the last half hour searching Google for answers, and I've found nothing directly related to the issue I'm having.

This may seem like a silly question, but does anyone know of a mod that makes vanilla hats and glasses indestructible? I'm fine with fixing up my armor and everything, but I get kind of sick of carrying around 6 pairs of sunglasses just so that I can keep wearing them because I have to repair them every other time I fight somebody. If nobody knows of one, I guess I could download the GECK and change some values, I'm just a bit too lazy to do that with EVERY vanilla hat that I like. I really only wear the sunglasses, but I change hats and helmets quite often. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is my hardware the issue?
kennymcg1995 replied to kennymcg1995's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Thanks guys. I did a clean install of Skyrim, re-added all my mods, BOSSed it, and now it runs so much better than it did before! I'm on High graphics settings, and I can even run some texture packs, as well as Lush Grasses/Trees with no issues at all. I don't know it I had old files from a mod that NMM didn't get rid of, or if BOSS really changed that much. Thanks for your responses! -
I've had Skyrim since release. I didn't have any issue with it until the 1.5 patch. Now, I'm getting random CTDs. There's no lag, no stuttering, no warning whatsoever. The game just shuts down as if I killed the process, without an error message or anything. For a while I assumed it was caused by some mods that I have, but I really don't think that's the case anymore. The majority of my mods are either armor/weapons sets or quests, which to my knowledge should have absolutely no effect on my regular gameplay. The mods I have installed, besides the armors and quests, are (mods with a * I had successfully used well before experiencing crashes): A Quality World Map* Auto Unequip Arrows Beautiful Whiterun Better Horses Casual Bow Animations Categorized Favorites Menu* Deadly Spell Impacts Enhanced Blood Textures* Expanded Winterhold Destruction- Ruins Fhaarkas Font Replacement (SkyUI)* Shadowmere Retexture IMAGINATOR Immersive Skyrim Thunder* Improved NPC Clothing* No More Blocky Faces* Proper Length Arrows Shadow Striping Fix* SkyUI* SMIM* Ultra Realistic World Lighting W.A.T.E.R. - Realistic Water and Terrain Enhancement* The thing is, my video card should be able to run Skyrim extremely easily. I was playing with all setting on Ultra without any lag before Skyrim 1.5. Now, however, everything is set to medium or low, and I still get crashes. It doesn't really happen in any specific area or in any specific instance. I was messing around trying to see what the problem was, and it actually crashed while I was in 1st person, standing still, with no NPCs around. Other times, I could be fighting a couple dragons with a few guards running around, while having fire and ice and who knows what else exploding around me, with no lag or any stuttering. My only guess now is that it could just be that I need a new processor. My current specs are: CPU: AMD Athlon X2 255, 3.1 GHz Dual Core GPU: nVIDIA GEForce GTX 465 RAM: 4 GB Motherboard: Biostar A770E3 I can play both Crysis games, Battlefield 3, and all sorts of other games on high to max settings with no problems whatsoever. Am I just unlucky? Should I just wait for the 1.6 update and see if that helps at all? Thank you to whoever decides to read this whole thing. I appreciate any advice you can give me.

@anaxanamoon, I was thinking the same thing. When uploading a mod, have like a 2-tag required minimum from the author. That would eliminate any more untagged mods. Besides, how could you upload anything that doesn't fit into ANY of the tag categories?

This is the best thing I've heard all day! Goodbye boobs, hello realism!

Ah, okay. That makes sense. I guess I'll just deal with it then. Thanks for the reply.

Hey, I'm kind of a novice modder, I usually just make personal stuff. I've been working on a house for awhile now. I built the whole thing in about 2 hours, but I kept deciding it wasn't good enough. I've been steadily working on it for a good month now, at least. I had some torch sconces that I was using as light sources, but I decided they looked kind of silly and swapped them out for a chandelier. I had moved/deleted other sconces in this same house earlier and had no issue. I made sure both times to make a clean save from outside the interior cell before editing the inside of the house. As I said, it worked fine the first time, but this time the sconces aren't going away. The light sources themselves are gone, but the static sconce is there. Actually, now that I think about it, the sconce itself is gone, and there is instead just the floating torch with no bracket. It's static now, and I can't move it or anything. Everything else I changed was fine, but these torches are being pretty stubborn. I even went back to a save from much earlier, and they were still there, and still static. I assume this is just a glitch, and if I have to I'll figure out some clever way to cover them up, but if any of you know any tricks or steps that I missed to get rid of these magical floating torches that would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Ah that's so obvious!! Thanks, it works great now!

I made a custom beast race and I want to make an NPC using the race. I keep getting warning saying "Bad InitAnimation for NPC 'AAGreifenkGog' (02001039). Missing 'Idle' Animation." Now that's a pretty straightforward error. It needs an idle animation. The problem is, it has no animations at all, and I don't know how to add animations to the race. I don't want to make custom animations for it or anything like that. I just want to use all the vanilla Oblivion animations for it. When I go to the Gameplay tab and open up the Idle Animations window, on the bottom there's a new category or whatever you call it called "Goggin\IdleAnims" (Goggin is the name of the race), and it's completely empty. So, how do I add animations to my race?

I have a bit of a strange bug.
kennymcg1995 replied to kennymcg1995's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Nevermind, fix'd. I had saved the texture under a different name and neglected to change the _n.dds file as well. Funny that the inventory item was the only thing affected though. -
I made a new shield a couple days ago. It's Spellbreak with a simple color change. I extracted the DDS blah blah blah, and imported it into the Construction set and it worked fine. I got the shield for my character in-game, and everything worked fine. Today I edited the shield a little bit more. I changed the color slightly, touched some things up, and added some elvish-looking writing. I went through all the same steps using Photoshop, NifSkope, and DDS Converter, and imported it into the CS again. It looked fine in the NifSkope render, it looked fine in the Construction set, and it looks fine in game. Except in my inventory. When I have it equipped in my inventory, it shows up as solid black, but it's transparent, if that makes sense. Against the background (the grayed-out game area that I'm like aimed at) it's solid black, but when I rotate my character I can see through the shield like it isn't there on the parts where it should hide the view of my character. It still has the shape and everything, though, and it's just fine in-game. Any idea what the problem is?
-
Yeah, that's exactly what I need! Thanks!

Hey guys, I just recently started modding Oblivion. I'm making an armory sort of thing for a house of mine, but I for the life of me can't get weapons to stay on weapon racks. Swords, bows, etc. I could just put them on tables or in chests if I have to, but I think the racks look a bit better. Is there some way to rotate them in CS so that they'll actually stay in place in-game? Any help or tips would be much appreciated.
