  1. Is there any chance that we're going to get to see images properly? I've been watching the adjustments to the site and that is one thing that has yet to be fixed. And by properly I mean not deformed or cut up. Most images are a composition. Deforming or cutting up those images destroys that composition. As I've tried viewing images on the site, I repeatedly find images where the important parts are all cut off and hidden. I have no idea what the uploader is trying to show me until I click on it (which often gets me a deformed version). And yet, I have no reason to click on it because I see nothing interesting in the thumbnail. It's no way to treat the images people upload. As of writing this, four out of five of the latest images have had the important parts of the images cut off and hidden. All I see on them is heads.
  2. @DeepSoul Just because it's a trend doesn't mean it's good.
  3. I was looking at my own images that I had uploaded and while it's true that they're no longer deformed, most of them have had the bottoms cut off. So the problem still isn't fixed, even for the thumbnails. And why were the secondary titles removed? I used them as an extension of the main title. Some of them are just lacking now that it's been removed.
  4. @buddah No, it's not just aesthetics. Functionality and efficiency is having information readily accessible and easy to see. This site, because of the narrow fixed with and other choices, does not present very much information at any one time. It squeezes it into a narrow space and that forces it further down the page. I can only see a whole three mods at any one time. That is NOT efficiency. It forces the user to do more scrolling than is necessary to find what they want. Granted, the decision to go with the bars instead of tiles means that a variable width design wouldn't fix that problem. That just means that also wasn't a good choice, though.
  5. @Dark0ne It says to me that while you're willing to put a lot of time and effort into the site, you're unwilling to put forth the extra time to make it as good as it could be. When presented with two options, working with variable width that makes better use of space, but is harder to work with or fixed width that is easier to work with but makes poor use of space, you went with the easy one. Void space is a very useful design element. It helps keep things from looking cluttered, among other things. The space between objects is often just as important as the objects themselves. This site, though, doesn't really have void space, it has dead space. It's just empty and useless.
  6. @amycus While that plug-in is nice, I shouldn't have to download a plug-in to fix a poor design decision. I mean no offense to Dark0ne, but it tells me a lot that he's chosen to go with a site layout that makes poor and inefficient use of space just because it makes his life easier. I'm not a web designer, though I have taken web design classes, but I am in the design industry. Specifically Architecture. One thing we were taught is that it's not enough to just have a good design. It also has to be presented well. This site does not do that.
  7. The side skins are nice, but all it does is cover up the real problem. That it's wasted space. Spiff it up all you want, that fact doesn't change.
  8. We can only hope that this is a temporary change and that a new and decent version will be uploaded in the near future. Things I don't like and would change: The white on bright. Sure, it's less bright than it was, but it's still way too bright. I'd make the orange bars thinner and use them as the dividers. The white text I'd place on a dark field immediately below the orange bars. This site cuts off or deforms every single picture that doesn't conform to the "ideal" ratios. I'm sorry, that's just bad. A lot of the images now look downright dreadful. I'd throw that whole aspect out. I'd make it so the images shrink to match either the height or width, but not both. I'd also put the latest images back on the front page. That was one of the big reasons I often visit the site, to see what new images have been put up. Why was that even taken away? On top of that, why do I have to mouse over an image to see it's title? And why were the subtitles removed? I'd give the site back it's adjustable width. There's absolutely no excuse for there to be this much wasted space on a wide screen monitor. Browsing mods is a bit painful, now. People talk a lot about how terrible the default Oblivion UI was, where you could only see five or six items at a time. The new Nexus layout is even worse. I can only see three at time, so I'm having to scroll up and down a lot more. There's no excuse for that, either. I'd also ditch the drop down menus. Sure, they remove clutter and look sleek, but they're also a pain to use. It was much nicer when they were sitting right on the side of the screen. They were easy to see and easy to access. Addendum: Why is that that when I want to view an image's title, not only do I have to mouse over the image, but the title appears over the image, along with the lined or pixelated overlay, further obscuring an already deformed and blurry image? Addendum 2: When I pull up a window, like to look at the Action Log or to edit this post, the "X" for closing the window looks like an afterthought, not an incorporated design element.
  9. You have no idea how happy that will make me. It'll cut out a step from my workflow.
  10. Thank you. I'll see if I can get it working. Then I'll be back if I have any more questions.
  11. The Maya Niftools plugin is years out of date. I do my modelling in Maya and I have to import the nifs into either Blender or Max, then export them to Maya. And then, of course, do the reverse to get the models into the game.
  12. Yes, it's for Fallout. New Vegas specifically. Anyways, I was wanting to set up an animation that ran continuously. Not necessarily at a specific time like reload. The reload animation doesn't take very long, which would make it something that just played quickly, then stopped. Considering what the animation is suppose to be for, that just doesn't feel adequate. You know? As for note tracks, no, I didn't have any. I've looked around and haven't found anything that really says how to set up an animation in Max for export. So I didn't even know they were needed. Do I need them for every transformation or do I can I set up just one note track for the entire thing? Or one for each piece (there's three moving parts)?
  13. I'm not sure the best place for this. I'm trying to animate a rifle I'm working on, without much success. I know aspects of the animation are handled in Nifskope, so I could ask about it there. The only tutorial I can find just says to attach the .kf file, though. It says nothing about creating that .kf file, though. That seems to be am exporter issue, and hence 3ds Max issue. For more specifics, this is the rifle I'm working on. What I'm trying to get it to do is make the pump work. I need the wheel to spin and the piston to move in and out. I have the animation set in up Max already. More or less. I did the modeling and animation in a different program (which doesn't have a nif exporter) and imported into Max, so it may need some minor tweaking. I just need to export it and get it working in Nifskope. I don't know if it's important or not, but I used simple keyframe animation. Any help would be appreciated.
  14. Sure, Zaldiir, but it's also nice to be able to quickly look at them without having to go to the browse image page. And by that reasoning, the Latest Files is also unnecessary. After all, if you just go to the Latest Files page, it's lists the most recent first.
  15. Out of curiosity, and I apologize if it's been answered in this thread (didn't see it in the blog post), but why was the Latest Images removed? Every time I load up the site, it's one of the first things I look at.
  16. I wouldn't say that I was shocked. I did notice the blog posts regarding the redesign. I didn't really look at them carefully, but I was aware of them. LordFrostcraig: That's not a very high standard. I, like others have said, can't stand Planet Elderscrolls. I've never cared much for it's layout and it's search engine is terrible. TESNexus and related sites have been my preference for a very long time, as my Joined date should indicate. Part of that has been the site's layout and feel. The new design looks like it could be random block #1,394,849. It lacks the character the possesses. One of the things the current sites do now that the new one utterly fails at is that they tell you where you are almost instantly, without having to read anything. I load up New Vegas Nexus (where I spend most of my time lately) and I instantly see a Ranger Veteran, the Pip-boy mascot, an Eyebot, etc and I know that this site is about Fallout New Vegas. If I log onto TESNexus I seem similar images related to The Elder Scrolls. What does the new site have? A crappy logo that really doesn't tell me anything about the site or the subject.
  17. My problem with it isn't so much the layout or organization. The drop down menus are nice. It's clean and organized, for the most part. All in all it looks like a pretty standard CSS layout. My problem is more the graphical aspect of it. From the front choice, the button designs, the new logo, the color scheme, the stripes everywhere, etc. It just seems very generic to me. It lacks personality. Like I said earlier, it feels like I could be on any site. Nothing about it says "TESNexus" to me.
  18. Meh, the yellows are way too bright on that redesign. It also looks very... generic. I like that it doesn't look cluttered, but it also looks like any one of a few hundred thousand websites one might come across. There really isn't anything about it that says to me "I'm on TESNexus." It looks like I could be anywhere.
