I guess people that are Happy about this update don't really mod their game too much.
My Experience is Horrible. I was playing a game I had been working on for a long time. Finally, everything was running smoothly. Hardly ever a CTD. I was actually enjoying the scenery and the seemingly built-in LOD. I'm usually so busy playing and hoping mods don't crash and hoping it's all working that I hardly ever take too much time to enjoy the surroundings. Almost every day I played I kept coming to the conclusion that this game was indeed a Masterpiece, no matter what little flaws were present. None of those bothered me anymore. Just seemed like part of the game after all these years. i don't know why devs forget that mods are the only thing that keeps these games playable for years and years after the Hype goes away. But I also hear people saying that CDPR really cares about modders. I'm still conflicted about that rumor.
Hearing about the Update I was very surprised that a GOTY game was being updated. Never heard of that before, Has that ever happened before? And when I saw Ray Tracing (The same Devil that screwed up mods for Resident Evil Remakes 2 & 3 which I had recently modded) I knew beyond a doubt that it would screw EVERYTHING up.
So, I proceeded to backup the game folder and Mods folder. Turned off Steam Auto-Update (well, you can only tell it to only update at launch) and also left it on "Never Allow Background Downloads". But stupid me, I didn't think to play OffLine.
Then, I'm playing my smooth modded game on Dec 13th. All of a sudden CTD....and there it was ...The Update from Hell Ruining all my Fun in moments. None of the precautions worked. They Got Me.!
Of coarse I immediately tried overwritng with my Backup files. Thought I was real smart. Failure guaranteed. Next, I roll back like they let you do with Resident Evil Remakes. Plenty of waiting. No go for Mods because while the game runs ver 1.32, you still get a bunch of extra files  from Next Gen. The essential mod that rolls back 1.32 to 1.31 wouldn't work so NO MODS.
Next I remembered reading that GOG lets you roll back to older versions. But nobody mentioned that you can only go back one version. So I buy the game for a third time (I played it on Playstation first) to find out I can only get v 1.32. And wouldn't you know it? The rollback Mod was only made for Steam versions Exactly because GOG lets you rollback. Another Failure.
GoG has a way to download offline installers to play without someone watching over your shoulder. I saw that the last file was an update for 1.31 to 1.32. Ignorance told me if I didn't run it I would end up with V 1.31. No, No, No! You end up with 4.0 even offline and still a bunch of Next Gen files and that stinkin' pre-launcher. Another massive Failure and a waste of two days downloading useless files.
So, I'm back on Steam with rollback Classic 1.32. Trying to make it work but after all the prepping--rollback to 1.31.+ASi Loader +Mod Limit Adjuster +Community Patch +Load Order Config.....Launch Game, get CDPR Red Screen that checks Scripts. They seem to compile without errors. But then you launch the game again and nothing happens except  thumb twiddling.
So I have no choice but to swallow the Shove-It-Down-Your-Throat-Forced Update  and start modding the game from scratch. BUT, now there are no modding tutorials for 4.0 and a lot of the mods I use most likely won't be updated. So my only real choice is go play another game so I can cool off and just keep waiting for a 4.0 Modding Tutorial which I was searching for and ended up on this Page.
FREE Update you say? The cost is your Game out the window and there's no getting it back.. Wish they would have charged money then we'd be alright. Or learn from Bethesda (Skyrim or SSE) and offer a free W3 Remastered or Witcher 3 SSE free to game owners then sell it to next Gen Consoles which is really the ultimate goal here Don't you like the way they think everybody owns a next gen computer? I tried playing 4.0 at the beginning in Kaer Morhen and the frame rate went out the window. Awful stuttering and didn't really see anything looking better than what I had modded. On top of everything else, they force Integrated mods on me that I would NEVER use because modding is very personal and indidvidual. Also if I buy an old game I want the OLD Game not the next gen. I played Skyrim on PS3 and SSE on PS4. When I finally got a computer and started modding I chose Skyrim so I would Never fear Updates. I exclusively buy old games for modding for that very reason.
Have no use for God Rays or Ray Tracing or Photo Mode (have no idea how to shoot photos of any of my games) or mods forced on me. This is now a Different game and should have been sold as such. I feel like I lost my best friend or somebody died. Disappointed doesn't cover it.
If CDPR put out a Witcher 3 Game (NO NEXT GEN FILES) that only contained the Original version 1.31 and can actually be played on STEAM right now, I would pay again 50/60 dollars for it.  Matter of fact, I would pay DOUBLE to get my game back.
Really feels like Death in the air. The fact that a Video Game can affect me this much is very concerning. Maybe I should quit Gaming out of fear of Addiction. I give UP!! Modding is Wonderful and Wicked simultaneously. Conundrum?

Some people spend thousands of hours to make a stable version of 100-200+ mods game, that is just broken here... and can't revert properly. It's like when Skyrim SE coming, I have to wait like 2 years before coming back to because mod community is still present, but here on TW3, the best mod will never see update anymore.. :'(
trinityspirit95 wrote: There is a way to change to version 1.32 by right clicking Witcher 3 in your Steam library. Then selecting Properties -> Betas -> Opt in to Classic Patch v1.32 from the dropdown menu. I got my mod setup working again by doing that. But I needed to reinstall each mod again one by one. I may just stay on v1.32 classic as going back and checking if each mod got updated gets tedious.

Although its name says "1.32", I believe if you download them and don't run the "Patch (1.31 to 1.32)" exe file under the "DOWNLOAD OFFLINE BACKUP GAME INSTALLERS" column you'll get game version 1.31. Just a guess based on my previous installing experience, havn't been tested.
Sorry for my poor English, I'm not a native speaker. Hope it's helpful to you.

Clw6Cuba wrote: Unfortunate but stopping steam from auto downloading is very simple. You can set at specific time slot for it to update and it will ONLY update during that time slot (5-6 am when your pc is always off for example). This way every auto update is in your hands to manually update or ignore as you want.  Lesson learned I guess, and really, if you're going to spend so much time modding and fine tuning a game it might be a good idea to learn the best way to fireguard it.

My game won't even start now :(
  2. Has Ubisoft put out a good game anyways? haha

But, this is BS...and another one joins my list of companies I won't buy from. Seriously, this is going to hurt them BAD. About the dumbest idea I've seen to combat piracy. They need to understand that whatever they do to stop it, the pirates will just keep trying to get past it :( Sad, but true. It doesn't matter, they'll find a way.

I know of a few folks that don't have the Internet and play single player games. With this crap, it's like they are forced to have the Internet in order to even play it...that's just wrong.

Absolutely and I don't want to have to use an internet connection to play a game I bought from a store; just rubs me the wrong way.

  3. Thanks to everyone for all your great input.

My conclusion is that I probably will buy dragon Age Origin at some point.

But like Fallout3 I'm not in that big of a hurry to get it.

This will amaze you but I have never played WOW, AION or LOTRO.

Played LOTRO Battle For Middle-Earth online but didn't like the on-line play , I guess I just don't like on-line games.

I've played networked games like Unreal, Medal of Honor & other shoot'em up type games & liked them.

The people here at the Nexus are some of the best bunch of folks you could ever meet, I have asked questions / help and the community always comes through.

    :thanks: Thanks again! :thanks:

  4. Graphics are better than unmodded oblivion. Engine is much better.

As for whether you'll like it or not, i can't say. All that this game and Oblivion have in common is:

    - Medieval setting + magic & misc.

    - It haves quests.

    - The main character is not voiced

    - Ehm.. hmm... the name of the companies that made each start with the letter B.

Have you liked baldur's gate? baldur's gate 2? neverwinter nights 1 or 2?, kotor 1 or 2?, mass effect? (this one is the less similar).

    Thanks for the info,

The main character for Oblivion is not voiced so that's no big deal to me as long as the NPCs are.

I like the fighting of Oblivion instead of Gothic3 or a turn based system.

Never played the other games mentioned but have played other Jedi games but not KOTOR.

I like first person shooter / sneaker games also.

  5. Please give it to me, down & dirty; I love Oblivion.

The single player style game play, free roaming, open quest NPC interaction & just about everything else. So based on that will I like Dragon Age?

BTW I also absolutely love the Thief series of games (all 3) & I like Gothic3 pretty well also.

I'm assuming the graphics are better than Oblivion right?

  6. Had to choose the 360, the Wii wasn't on the list, I like the Wii, it gets your butt of the couch.

(The PS3 does have a blueray player)

Most importantly is that Microsoft has gotten enough of my money already!

    PS

Don't talk to me about hard core gaming putting down the Wii; it does what it's made for, good interactive games the whole family can enjoy.

PCs are for the real hard core gammers.

  7. I have searched this site and found many clothes mods but not a Santa Clause mod.

Could someone make a mod that included a Santa outfit that once put on you became Santa.

Meaning all creatures friend or foe would become friendly to you & each other (near you).

Instead of fighting you would throw out items (presents) and the NPCs would scramble to collect them.

    Any comments would be appreciated.

  8. 1. Thief (4) been wanting that a year after Deadly Shadows came out (2005).

    2. A new FPS Lord of the Rings game

    3. A new FPS Star Trek game

    4. Duke Nukem

    5. A new No One Lives Forever game

    6. A new FPS Dune game

    7. Speed Racer

  9. Are Bethesda taking a step backwards by not releasing an SDK with Fallout 3...?

    YES,

The modding community is what attracted me to Oblivion in the first place.

I figured if so many people spent so much time working on the game it had to have something going for it and I was right.

While I do wish Bethesda would have included a SDK (Construction set / kit, modding tools) if they are waiting until later I can understand that also.

We have all read or made the comments ourselves about how mods have enhanced the gaming experience for us so why shouldn't they wait a little while to release it to breath new life into Fallout3?

That's what I'm waiting for before I buy it.

  10. Advertising placement changes

The adverts originally found within the main content area of the site have now all been moved to the new advert position in the top right hand corner of the site, above the right menu and below the top menu. This change was brought in so I could better make use of the space available to me within the main content area of the site and also to help those people who view the site in lower resolutions from seeing highly distorted/truncated text.

It looks very good & cleaner, now my text won't disappear when I have to increase the size.

  11. Worm, I love Bob Seger, thanks.

This is a great site to find song lyrics:

I can’t believe I’m posting this song (not my favorite) but when I read “poetry in motion” in your title it just popped in my head, I can’t help it.

Thomas Dolby She blinded me with science

    It's poetry in motion

And when she turned her eyes to me

    As deep as any ocean

    As sweet as any harmony

    She blinded me with science

    And failed me in geometry

When she's dancing next to me

    (Blinding me with science)

    (Science)

    Science

    I can hear machinery

    (Blinding me with science)

    (Science)

    Science

    It's poetry in motion

And now she's making love to me

    The spheres are in commotion

    The elements in harmony

    She blinded me with science

    She blinded me with science

    And hit me with technology

When I'm dancing close to her

    Science

    I can smell the chemicals

    It's poetry in motion

And now she's making love to me

    The spheres are in commotion

    The elements in harmony

    She blinded me with science

    She blinded me with science

    And hit me with technology

    Good heavens, Miss Sakamoto

    You're beautiful

    I, I don't believe it

    There she goes again

She's tidied up and I can't find anything

    All my tubes and wires

    And careful notes

    And antiquated notions

    But, it's poetry in motion

And when she turned her eyes to me

    As deep as any ocean

    As sweet as any harmony

Mmm, but she blinded me with science

    She blinded me with science

  12. Don't think there is any good, free software since most things along this line are also done for people who rip episodes and movies from DVDs to upload online. And on that end, file type, or quality usually isn't of big importance, since anyone who would download, then burn to a DVD to watch on their own, would probably be using stolen software to do it. But again, I'm not too aware of what's out there.

Regardless, what you'll probably have to do is extract the episodes to one file type, then convert that file type to something your DVD player can use, then burn that filetype to another DVD and hope for the best.

The other option would be to just hook up a small computer with a DVD drive to your TV, and then play the files directly that way.

You're probably right, I found one but has to use the DivX codec, I know there must be something available for free (that doesn't put a watermark on it.

My DVD player is suppose to play AVI & MPGs.

  13. Just bought a full season a TV program and every time I put a DVD in a stupid movie company clip starts then a menu comes up I have to select play episodes or special features. So I click play episodes & now the menu for that particular episode comes up, you know chapters, bla, bla , bla. Would like to re-record my DVD episodes, cutting out the opening & closing credits and just have that on the DVD, so when I put it in all I have to do is select the episode & play without all this annoying browsing & junk.

I am looking for good free software that will allow me to do this; I don't want to make a DivX movie because my DVD player won't play them.

DVDs are better quality than video tape but I sure miss being able to pop the tape in & fast forwarding to what I want to see (no animations, menus or submenus) I'm guessing BlueRay operates the same annoying way.

You guys (MRG) came through great for me last time when I was looking for a FLV converter (http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=53323&hl=) so I'm asking for help again.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hoots7

  14. It's so interesting that you guys can give something like that up so easily. Knowing that there could be a possibility that a part of me is out there would drive me crazy. The only thing I can compare it to would be donating one of my eggs. I would want to do my best to make sure that person has a healthy, safe, happy life. I have a feeling I'm comparing apples with oranges, right?

I guess you can't be too possessive over that kind of stuff, you gotta' keep the pipes clean  Keep a healthy prostate.

It's a good comparison at least for me, I would feel the same way & always wonder if I had another child out there somewhere.

I may do it for a friend (like some else did) but not for concert tickets (liked the stock comment).

  15. The Draconis family & betraying the mom’s confidence like that, I resurrected her & most the others.

Taking out the DB wasn't that bad, I got all the non-essential ones before I joined, snuck in as a thief.

Killing the vampire in the DB Purification sucked (pun intended) because even after resurrecting him he no longer offered to make me a vampire.

do you know about the little easter egg with the "Mothers Head" 'item' ? o_O

    it's quite interesting...

I saw the head, what's the Easter egg?

If you drop the head in the Farm House and talk to the "Fingers," no one seems to notice (or care) that the head is there. EXCEPT the traitor.

Thanks for telling me Gman, is it worth going to the trouble of redoing? Does he say something funny?
