u can play skyrim on medium/high just fine with a 540m. Any mod that replaces the d3d9.dll will mess up optimus, making ur laptop use the intel hd card instead. That's why the poor performance. No fix as of yet it seems...

go to ur nvidia control panel and go to manage 3d settings, program settings, add skyrim, and choose high-end gpu. that is if u have optimus, but with a gtx 360m, i don't think so. Remember, Skyrim has poor multi-core usage and is more cpu dependant, and thus clock speed is more important than number of cores.

the normal dll is 2mb but the fxaa post process is 75kb.... I would imagine it wouldn't mode well with many other DirectX9 games. Will test later.
