  1. I just read about a new emerging technology; Artificial Photosynthesis. The name says it all. The ability to mimic the natural process of photosynthesis can provide us infinite amounts of carbon neutral fuel. As for other sources of energy, Wind and solar power have enough potential to power the entire world several times over plus we´re getting closer to achieving nuclear fusion, so there will be plenty of energy to burn in the future.

    Love

Thank you I study history, what did you expect from a guy who likes to dig up the past. Now I´m off to scan for more interesting threads to revive, tee hee!

    Love

Necroing threads? I didn´t realize that an open thread was dead. I started a new thread on love and it got deleted, so I checked if there were any old threads and found at least 2 and consequently posted in them. Is this some unwritten rule of forums that I should be aware of? To let an old thread die a dignified death and not post in it? If the thread is open and I´m interested in it, then I will post in it. If this "necroing" is bad, then why don´t the moderators delete all old threads after a certain time of inactivity? Someone should have read The Rules. -mm

    Life

    Life without money is meaningless.

    Love

Love is a set of chemical reactions in the brain that makes you addicted to someone. Another thread on this topic
  7. It´s time to bring this thread up to date. Obama won the last election, but will he get a second term, I hope he does.
  8. If the child was being taken to Europe, then there should be no problem, health care here is equivalent or better than in America, I think.

    The Soul

Good point Ghogiel, but presuming that as an immaterial being you could go anywhere in the Multiverse you like, then perhaps you could live out your eternity exploring the countless universes and alternate realities?
  10. Time for morrowwind has long since passed but this thread is still active. Let me say that many games have been part of my life and will continue to be. Whether gaming is "real life" or not remains to be debated, but what does the so called REAL LIFE have to offer? You work from 9.00 to 17.00 every day and after that you go home to your nagging wife and screaming kids and worry about paying the house mortgage and other bills and then you grow old and die. Why should we choose "real life" instead of gaming?

    The Soul

Hey! I found this old thread at the bottom of the list and since it was started by Dark0ne him/herself (is it a him or a her I´m not sure anymore) it cannot be banned. I guess this thread predates the ban on religious topics. Do I believe in souls? I do not know whether we have souls or not as there is no scientific evidence for it, BUT I HOPE that we do have one, because that is a requirement for afterlife and I hope there is an afterlife. In the end we will all find out about souls when we die and it would seem like such a waste if all that we are is lost forever in the process. Hence I CHOOSE to believe in souls and afterlife and Near Death Experiences give some subjective evidence of it, but whether to believe it or not is everyones own business. As for the difinition of a soul, I consider it to be everything that we are mentally. Our memories, thoughts, feelings etc. are all part of the soul. Oh and please dear religious fanatics, we don´t need your fanaticism here, so don´t hijack this thread.
  12. Everyone has the right to health care. It should not be a question of whether you have the money to pay for it or not.
  13. Assaulting and beating a child to death or serious injury is deeply wrong, but I don´t have a problem with parents using minor physical punishments on their kids to stress the seriousness of the violation and to deter further acts. Whether physical punishment is the best alternative depends on the case, but sometimes words may not be enough. I have no kids of my own and currently I don´t plan on having any so it is quite unlikely that I will ever have to deal with that dilemma.
  14. Some argue that in order to guarantee our survival as a species we MUST become a two planet civilization at the very least. So in our own solar system we have to get to Mars and eventually colonize and terraform it and that will take huge amounts of resources. Right now just getting to orbit takes a lot of effort. The first important step I believe will be the development of non-rocket space launch techniques like the Space Elevator which would allow us to send personnel and material to orbit much easier and allow for bigger construction projects there. For resources we could consider mining the asteroid belt just beyond Mars. So there´s plenty to do just in our own solar system, and when we are advanced enough to go to other star systems we will undoubtedly do that as well.
  15. Some will always resist new technologies, but eventually that inertia will be overcome and the technology will be adopted on a large scale. Personally I don´t see anything wrong with Stem Cells and if they can provide us with treatments to different conditions, then I´m all for it.
