  1. Hello all, I ended up doing a repair install of Windows 7. After some online research I learned the most likely culprit was the OS even though it is on a separate drive. It probably was a windows setting as the bios was never changed for the new install. I had already pre-configured it weeks ago. Anyway at least I learned more about Windows and SSds. After the repair my 11GB game loads in 10 seconds max. Hey there, GomuGomu64- I'm not sure its a good idea to degrag a SSD- from what I've heard from many sources this can degrade its performance, shorten its life, if not ruin it. SSDs have a limited number of writes. I do like Auslogics for HDDs, however. Yes and with the new patch I reinstalled Skyrim and most of my mods and some new ones as well, mostly HD textures, and everything is a-ok and smooth as silk. Loads even faster now despite a 15GB game folder. Lesson learned: don't go willy nilly on the texture mods until you have a well defined plan of which ones overlap, which ones you want, and the order you need to install them in.
  2. *sigh* I'm an idiot. Completely forgot about the controller Interface fix mod for this problem. Oh well, I hope this helps someone to save time. Anyone else have this? Today I reinstalled Skyrim and all my mods, I wanted to do this for a while and the new patch got me motivated. Everything worked fine, I kept all plugins I had before, only mods I did not reinstall were world space textures, nothing menu specific. I did update to skyui 2.1 from 2.0 SkyUI is my only UI mod. Unless Tytanis has UI changes. So the problem is that since today's update my custom remap prevents me from doing a few things in the menus. It works playing, but I cannot exit menus with the (B) button, and the only way to exit the map menu is to quit the game. I switched (B) to sneak. Default was open menu, which is now (Y). Had no issue with the 1.4 betas. I have: Uninstalled skyui 2.1, also went back to 2.0, and tried with no SkyUI, no dice Disabled read only on .inis, reset controller setting to default, disabled controller in ini and in menu, deleted Control_Map_Custom.txt in root folder, no go. Tried with and without SKSE, Made saves after each change mentioned here and reloaded them to double check each change Any input is appreciated.
  3. Hi, I do believe the acceleration layer is not needed since the last beta patches. It may be completely incompatible with the 1.4 update. Do you have the latest skyui and Quality Map? Make sure you use Nexus Nod Manager for every mod, no matter how small. It will save time in the long run. I do have an issue with non-default button layouts on xbox controller for PC since 1.4
  4. Hey there, I just wondering if the following is a normal loading time for an SSD- I have: my games on a separate OCZ Agility 3 60GB, with about 30GB free z68 MB i5-2500k at 3.8ghz HIS IceQ X HD 6790 1GB 16GB 1600 RAM Crucial M4 128 GB SSD for OS My Skyrim Data folder is about 11.3GB and I'm set at 7 ugrids to load. I have loading times of nearly 1 minute from the OCZ. Windows 7 boots in seconds. Crystal Disk reports the following for my OCZ: Sequential Read : 209.331 MB/s Sequential Write : 62.574 MB/s Random Read 512KB : 202.556 MB/s Random Write 512KB : 63.394 MB/s Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 30.881 MB/s [ 7539.4 IOPS] Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 62.986 MB/s [ 15377.5 IOPS] Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 84.553 MB/s [ 20642.8 IOPS] Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 57.280 MB/s [ 13984.3 IOPS] Test : 100 MB [D: 58.5% (32.7/55.9 GB)] Overclockers.com review benchmark, same drive, intel controller: SEQ = 201.9 , 78.29 512K = 187.7 , 78.76 4K = 16.68 , 58.23 Thanks for any input!
  5. I'm getting blinded by the reflection of candle and firelight, literally looks like a spotlight on some surfaces. This is vanilla lighting as well as with Realistic Lighting with/without FXAA. Tried many settings with FXAA but it just makes everything else too dark. The straw was the long table in the hall of kings- there is a plate of food in the middle of the table under 2 candle chandeliers. The light reflected off the plate and food washes out all detail and makes it look like it is glowing. HDR and Bloom are off. Any way to correct this?
  6. The bard singing, especially the female, is horrible. She sounds like she is into her 3rd voice lesson ever. And it's SO LOUD. Is there anything out there to alter this?
  7. Im not much of a modder, but I can add simple audio files if I know the folder directory. How do I open the BSA's and find them?
  8. I had the problem where I had used ugrids to load=9 and found it too unstable, even with a i5 2500k @ 4.2 Ghz and a 1GB 6790 OC'd and 16GB of RAM. But I had used it while and didnt want to lose my saved progress. Lowering the ugrids after increasing it will make the game CTD. I dug and dug online and found about 3 different ways to do it, the main one causing the red color at the loading screen after the new 1.3 patch. This one works with that patch with no redness: 1. Run Skyrim in windowed mode. (Change in launcher or Skyrimprefs.ini) 2. Load your save and then with the game running get to your desktop either by alt-tab or ctrl-alt-delete and find your Skyrim.ini. 3. Make sure the ini isn't read-only and change the ugrids to whatever odd number lower value you want (default 5) 4. Save the ini and go back to the game 5. Open the console by typing "~" (tilde), the key left of the 1 key. Then type "refreshini" (without quotes). Hit enter and type ~ to exit the console. 5. Save your game, exit, and restart with that save. That's it! I find ugrids to load=7 is the most stable and much better than 5 obviously. Hope this helps someone!
  9. Hi- Yes I am- [X] Skyrim.esm [X] Update.esm [X] Blood (None).ESM [X] dD - Enhanced Blood Main.esp [X] Lost Art of the Blacksmith.esp [X] More Craftables.esp [X] Tytanis.esp [X] dD - Easy Lift Bodies and Objects.esp [X] Realistic Lighting - Full.esp [X] RealisticWaterTextures.esp [X] dD - Realistic Ragdoll Force - Realistic.esp [X] DeadlySpellImpacts.esp [X] Timescale10.esp and several texture mods. I thought I'd see if anyone else was experiencing this with vanilla.
  10. Hello- I've had a problem with wolves, once I encountered a pack and they did not attack. I was not in beast form, never have. The second time I encountered wolves who attacked, I killed one then the rest only approached me as if to attack, but did not. Is this a vanilla error?
  11. I apologize if this has already been requested, but please can someone make a mod that changes how the Jarls sit in their thrones? I know it isnt a big deal and does not affect the game at all, but EVERY Jarl slouches the same way. Maybe a "Unique Jarl" mod to give some behavioral variety.
  12. I have two ideas: I think that the items and weapons look to large and cartoonish in scale. Regular items like pitchers, utensils, etc etc. I don't know much about creating mods, but I would think it could be done. Also: If possible, I think it would be great for an in-game menu option which would make our read-only .ini files be configurable while playing. I have to set mine to read only for things get changed, like shadows.
  13. Im new to ATI- used nvidia for years until recently. I have a single HIS HD 6790 IceQ X Turbo. With ENB patch I get ultra high settings for default. Great performance on full setting outside and in towns. But when I went inside I got intermittent random stuttering as I moved and looked around, most noticeably in 1st person. What worked for me was: Reducing the in game menu settings for item, grass, light and specular to about 75% each. I just assumed that since the game ran like greased ice outside with full settings it would be even better inside. However, before I did that, I did everything else you can imagine- tried Simple Borderless Window, changing the interior cell buffer, change the FOV, shadow fade distance, different ATI CCC profiles, Game AA vs CCC AAA, ATI drivers, INI settings, etc etc.... I'm not saying this will work with your rig but if it does, great. I run a i5 2500k at 3.7 Ghz and 16 GB ram at 1600Mhz on a SSD. Only problem is interior shadows now, especially the dynamic shadows from fire light. Very jaggy despite weeks of tweaks.
  14. Of course it is a matter of personal taste, but I see a lot of people wanting darker nights. My thought is that the Elder Scrolls night has two huge bright moons. One takes up most of the sky. Plus some use the galaxy enhanced night mod. So really, from a realistic standpoint, the brightness is accurate
  15. Hi I have been having trouble with this for a while- and have spent days trying to fix it. When I move, anything with reflective light shimmers or flickers. Edges of steps, rooftops, anything metal, grass, leaves- even in the loading screen. I could have seizures watching them. I have AA at 4x, tranparency multisampling on in the game settings, AF x16, AO too in Nvidia Inspector. I have LOD bias clamped. I tried using a positive lod bias, but when I set it high enough to remove flicker there is too much detail missing. I also tried all other AA setting, SSAA and SGSS kills my fps. Is there any other fix for this?
  16. Creepy NPC kids wandering around with white eyes casting frenzy spells on you- what do you think?
  17. I'm sure this has been discussed already, but I wanted to add my 2 cents. As I play Skyrim (why does this text editor mark "Skyrim" as misspelled?), I think back to my modded Oblivion. And I see many of the things in vanilla Skyrim that I added to Oblivion with mods. Mods like Deadly Reflex and UV.... Animated Window Lighting, Colored Maps, Harvest, PTAutumn Trees, and many others. Just wondering- were the authors of these mods credited? Just wondering if the developers took all those PC mod improvement ideas only to develop the game on a console- thus leaving all the PC modders that helped make Skyrim great to deal with all the bugs and glitches on PC. I hope that the next TES IS developed on PC, even if it takes longer to release. The PC gaming mod community is what makes games better. We buy the games AND we work on it to make it faster, better, more immersive. Console gamers buy it, maybe install a patch or two, and that's it. But more console games are sold than PC. Sadly our economy is driven by profits and not by having the best quality product.
  18. Love the game (except for the shadows, praying for next update), but I'd appreciate a mod to make the camera more "stable" and responsive. Switching to 1st person mode takes too long, it should be instant. Also when looking around the camera seems to sway and shift clumsily, and is not centered or high enough above the character.
  19. From a distance and from right outside the gate to the New Vegas strip the city lights appear too bright and unrealistic. It looks like the sun landed there, just a big bright yellow ball. I didnt see anything related to this in my searches. Is there a mod or a tweak for this? Thanks!
  20. My disorder was diagnosed over my 3 years of modding Oblivion. 228 mods and a mod to play time ratio of 5 to 1. I had friends tell me to seek help. I was in denial, and only cared about a stable game experience with the best and most updated mods. Oblivion is a highly addictive game to mod. You can play whack-a-mole for a week straight, missing sleep, food, social activities, even hiding your mod activity from friends. My doctor suggested New Vegas as it was more stable for my OS, Windows 7. Since then Ive been titrating my modding up to 50%, but I still plagued with a compulsion to seek out the best basic mods. Then I see a cool unessential mod. And that mod requires this other mod. But the second mod is not compatible with a prior mod. So you try to mod that mod.....Its a slippery slope. I just hope that all of you take my experience to heart the next time you realize the only time you load your game is to make sure textures aren't flickering or that boobs are bouncing. God Bless.
  21. Hi everyone, Ive always gotten tons of help from this forum, but Ive gotten a problem I can't seem to iron out myself. Recently I reinstalled Oblivion GOTY from a backed-up copy on my external HD. I got everything working great, played for about 45 min with no problems with VWD, just some minor stutter. I saved and exited to go into the OSR ini to change the max frame rate from 0 to 30. I then started up the game, loaded my last save, which was up a hill from Anvil, and soon noticed that the VWD textures for Anvil were detail-less and looked like a 2 dimensional cut out of the town. The textures appeared as I closed in on Anvil. As a test I fast traveled to the Brina Cross Inn, went inside and back out. I went to check out Anvil and the DWV textures were fine.....but all the ocean in the bay around Anvil was invisible.... all I could see was the ocean floor, but the ocean was visible farther out. I had to activate OMODS when I reinstalled, they were Better Cities and AWLS, in that order. Do I need to reinstall RAEVWD? Im just nervous about messing it up more, any suggestions would be much obliged. I use Tweak Oblivion to increase distant LOD and Tes4LODGen. My .ini: here is my load order: Active Mod Files:
