  1. you have to get right up to the door maybe and make sure your icon shows that you can click on it to open it, then cast the spell. They definately work so you are doing something wrong. Unless its a door which you can only open with a special key.
  2. Genocide lolita has a point though. I must admit, when i was playing it I thought against going with the legion for the whole point they are pretty much evil and wanted this side of the river. You should figure out if you go through with them you will be the same. Its therefore best to explore vegas first (this was my thought train) I must admit you do end up screwing yourself over sometimes with factions, i have done it but then its your fault not the game. Its impossible for them to failsafe every action you could have or the factions would be pointless. Ie you could murder romans and they still love you, murder ncr they still love you. ps i was in exactly the same situation when I got to the point where i must go to the roman camp to follow benny in my first playthrough. Only problem was i was villified by the legion. I felt a bit hard done to but i had caused it myself lol. One thing that messed up first time i played through was in the roller coaster town (sorry im bad with names) I proceeded to wipe out the bad guys around the vicky vance casino. Raid all the huts and buildings then go into the vicky vance casino only to be shot to hell by everyone in there. Still not sure to this day why, though i guess it may havse had something to do with raiding the houses. maybe i flagged as stealing their gear. That was pre patch though and i think they fixed it hopefully.
  3. Well put javelin. Elequently put. the 9mm casings are for making your own 9mm ammo. One of my criticisms would be that ammo is too common in both games. Especially in vegas, i wish it was hard to find and you had to buy it or make your own using your skill. Then the game would be truely epic.
  4. arcane 20 I think you are seeing things with rose tinted glasses. Its a sequel, things will be taken from the first game. Mods are used because they hired a modder from the community to make the game better. It worked. The desert has lots in it, you can find houses caves hidden bases etc. You didnt look, its no less interesting then F3. Fallout 3 you can see megaton from the start location. Even a big sign pointing there. N you can go anywhere in new vegas. From the first town you can go out and explore craft, ie killing wolves geckos, scorps. Make the first town your base for a bit. You can go to the rollercoaster town and follow the quest. You can go to the prison which has been taken over and do that quest line. You can explore south and the mountains and the border to california. There is more to do and each direction has a focus. I think that part comes down to you prefering wondering to questing, which is a personal choice, but you can still wonder with no focus in new vegas. You can make unique weapons in new vegas, they just come later. You can make ammo by buying the primers from shops, they are not easy to get which makes ammo more difficult to make which makes the game more challenging and more fun. (if you like a challenge) Again i tihnk you dont like this part because you prefer fun weapons which are easy to get to crafting things. Again a personal choice. I think your post shows its down to which type of gameplay you prefer. I have to say when i first started on new vegas i didnt like the feel of it, and thats because its not so simplistic. I think this is what scares most people off. Fallout 3 is a modern day fallout, simple mechanics and fun blast which i would hazard a guess most gamers would prefer. P.S im not sayhing you are wrong because all of this is down to taste so no ones taste is right. ;)
  5. Its funny because Fallout 3 isnt anything like a fallout game should be setting wise. I saw someone on here saying new vegas shouldnt be called fallout because its not post apocalyptic, but funny enough "fallout" games have always had pretty strong towns set up. If you walk around F3 its pretty destroyed and the settlements are tiny, the city has no one in it but zombies (gouls) the odd person and a few raiders. There is no strong society. New vegas has towns and off the map the hub, a city. For fans of the originals this is what the game should look like. That said i love fallout 3, and in its own way it still works. Maybe the area around washington was hit really bad and so no society has grown there. I also love the misssions, the family is a direct homage to the Omega man the precursur to will smiths I am legend (and a lot nearer to the book i am legend than will smiths) there are a lot of nods to apocalyptic films in the game. You can tell its not done by the original guys but its still fun and pretty loyal the the original games in other ways. You could tell with fallout 3 it was the oblivion team making it, they went dungeon crazy, oblivion with guns which wasnt a bad thing. New vegas however is a 100 times deeper. There is just more to do, from hardcore mode, food, making things etc. More guns, more characters. There is an interaction in different tribes. Its an all round polished product (ok maybe not polished as it crashes a lot but you know what i mean) For me the only thing that let new vegas down was New Vegas itself. It was pretty empty, the casinos were dead, and not enough hookers lol. It feels to me like they spent forever populating the outside and got bored when it got to new vegas. I was so disappointed with vegas. As some other people have said on here i think it comes down to style of play as to which you like. F3 has more apocalyptic feel, lots of dungeon crawling, focused story to take you through. Fun wacky stories, apocalyptic nods. New vegas, depth of story, more choices, outdoor adventures, crafting, hardcore mode, more fallout feel, Fallout cannon nods. Just my opinion. Oh and to the person saying f3 quest was longer. what? Its so short! Fallout nv has a quest about 10 times as long imo. I might be playing it a different way or something.
