  1. basically something like this: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9614 applied to Fallout 3 (and eventually New Vegas?) just a cosmetic improvement so that it no longer looks like pulling weapons out of thin air sorry if this has been suggested before, and if it already exists then please post a link! thanks
  2. thanks guys for the advice (and the warnings!) i sifted through the mods to find out what was breaking the game and it seems to be the Pipboy PDA. running fine now (touch wood) but i will do all the above suggestions anyway to improve the game's performance. many thanks!
  3. i've downloaded a lot of mods for FO3 and i'm loving them, but something isn't completely happy because it crashes to desktop too often for comfort (as in i have to quicksave all the time and it's frustrating). sometimes when i load up the game it freezes on the opening scene with no cursor (but the music continues rolling). here is my load order: Fallout3.esm BrokenSteel.esm CRAFT.esm CALIBR.esm FO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esm iHUD.esm Mart's Mutant Mod.esm FO3 Wanderers Edition - Alternate Travel.esp Sharing and Caring Companions.esm F3ProjectRealityMkI.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - Followers Enhanced.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Broken Steel.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - Optional Restore Tracers (automatics only).esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - Optional Restore Tracers.esp CRBSOR.esp Auto Aim Fix v1.1.esp 1PipboyPDA.esp TSoutfitv1.esp TSbag.esp Mart's Mutant Mod.esp Mart's Mutant Mod - DLC Broken Steel.esp Mart's Mutant Mod - Master Menu Module.esp Mart's Mutant Mod - Natural Selection.esp Mart's Mutant Mod - Tougher Traders.esp Mart's Mutant Mod - Zones Respawn.esp Total active plugins: 26 Total plugins: 31 any advice would be very helpful and much appreciated! thanks
  4. i liked the weapon skills mechanics in Morrowind where when you started learning how to use a new weapon it'd basically be useless at first because it'd take 20 swings to actually hit a Mudcrab. it was seriously exaggerated in that game but it felt much more rewarding as you progressed rather than in vanilla Skyrim where you're pretty much a badass right from the beginning. implementing that would mean a total overhaul of everything though.
  5. bump, i really like this idea as well!
  6. ah, yes, the cliche gamer who can't tear himself away from the computer to go outside to the shops  just kidding. lucky for me where i live the game only cost £19.99 at Christmas and sales tax is included in the price. Steam are laughing all the way to the bank with the success of their digital downloading program. i'd rather support the local store. then again it's just as cheap ordering online too, the last couple purchases of mine - GTA4 for £10, Just Cause 2 for a whopping £6. now how much does Steam charge again? different strokes, i guess, i just like to get something 'tangible' for my money. if it did actually cost more to buy a game in the shop than on Steam i would still buy the actual thing. do you know how much of a cut Bethesda gets from each download on Steam? not in a condescending way - i'm genuinely interested in how that works. kind of going off on a tangent here but it's not that bad for you guys in Australia - you don't have to pay any import tax as long as what you import doesn't exceed $1000. here in the UK we get absolutely defecated over by the government on even the smallest thing coming from the States. sure - there's a markup in your local shops for American products - same goes everywhere else in the world for Warhammer etc - just import the stuff yourself and you'll get it cheaper
  7. that doesn't justify the price for me. it's just like buying music - i can't even start to understand why people pay $0.99 for a rubbish iTunes download MP3. when i buy a game i like to get the whole thing - the fancy packaging, thick instruction manual and free cloth map etc. if all you get is a digital download then there's no incentive for me to pay for it.
  8. if any kind soul could .rar us the Creation Kit and the various bits and bobs that it needs your generosity would be greatly appreciated and you would likely become the next e-sensation at the Nexus forum
  9. it would be cool if it required special training kind of like Power Armour in the Fallout series
  10. i like this idea, only thing is the citizens of Skyrim aren't like the ones in Assassin's Creed, in this game everybody just stands around and has nothing to do. might be a bit weird with a big crowd...
  11. hi all, inspired by Morrowind... you start off by installing a mod to disable the magic compass and you struggle to play the game because the quests are designed for you to follow the compass. so how about if somebody with a lot of dedication, who wants to be remembered forever in the world of Elder Scrolls modding, will write-up little directions for every location in the province that automatically get added to a 'journal' of sorts when you start a quest? basic things like "head north of Falkreath" or "follow the river and turn left at the cave" or more imaginative stuff. obviously you'd still need a compass for that but i'm sure there's a mod out there that simply removes the automatic markers to places. having a basic n/e/s/w compass isn't too far out in a world of magic and dragons. you'd actually have to discover the places to put the marker on your map. no need for voice acting or anything - just text. personally i'd love that, don't know about the rest of you? apologies if this has been suggested before or if this mod even already exists (and if it does please point me to it!)
  12. it might sound crazy but that's what i loved about Morrowind. at level 1 you felt like an absolute newbie struggling to kill rats who keep dodging your attacks and failed spellcasting and not to mention being chased down mountains by cliff racers. as you levelled up and made your way through the game you genuinely felt like your character was growing in power until the end where you can kill everything no problemo. in Skyrim it takes 3 hits to kill the bandits you meet at level 1 and 3 hits to kill the scaled up version of the bandits you meet at level 40. i'll echo what somebody else said earlier in the thread - i also loved walking into a dungeon in Morrowind and getting totally slaughtered by the necromancer hiding inside, only to come back after having travelled around the province improving my skills and finding awesome equipment, and finally put that guy in his place. i agree with most of the OP's comments but the thing about the graphics i think is a little harsh. this isn't the kind of game where i look for photo-realistic textures and whatnot and the environment is a lot more diverse than previous Bethesda releases. dungeons on the other hand were still all the same (except of course their flagship Bleak Falls Barrow/Golden Claw adventure which was brilliant.) still, just giving the enemies in the dungeons arbitrary names as opposed to "Bandit A", "Bandit B" etc would have made them feel a lot more "hand-crafted" and personal. end of the day there's only so many variations on the 'murky old cave' theme and it was still fun to explore them. that's probably my only gripe about the dungeons.
  13. jeez guys it's not like we paid for the service offered by Bethesda................. wait... i don't know why people are all in the OP's face about this, Nexusmods is a modding community, a community to improve the series, where else would be more appropriate and constructive for Skyrim criticism? to get back on tracks: what's motivating me to get back into Skyrim is designing new characters and new stories, good luck TS!
  14. hi folks, this might have been suggested before but i couldn't find anything had a couple vampire ideas run through my head the other day: - NPC's hostile towards you earlier on like stage 3 or even 2 - but wearing headgear that covers a lot of your face masks your vampirism and makes everybody like you again yay? nay?
  15. nice videos, the narration is fine but the annotations are really really annoying (especially when they're in "internetz-sp33k :O :P xD")
  16. why do we need voice actors? :) don't know about the rest of the forum but i can live with having to read the dialogue off the screen if it means better and less linear quests.
  17. some people like to play games like Elder Scrolls to get away from their friends ;D not a fan of Steam - i want to spend my money on something tangible - if all i'm getting is a digital download then there are other ways of obtaining the games - whenever an alert pops up that i've reached some kind of mundane achievement it ruins the atmosphere of the game if it's an RPG - i like to play games when i'm waiting in the airport that doesn't have free wi-fi YMMV
  18. right on, this is why i stayed the hell away from the whole thing. that's pretty much what i did in New Vegas: do the NCR quests alongside Yes Man's secretly to get rid of Mr House and then double-cross the NCR at the last moment. this is the kind of flexibility i'm hoping DLC will give us! since the whole dragon business felt pretty much like a joke after the main quest was done it would be killer to rule Skyrim on the back of Paarthurnax ;D it's a real dick-move to chop off the heads off everybody crossing the border but the guys are just taking orders and i figure it was pretty tense with Ulfric right there. they were still on the fence about the whole thing anyway. if you're playing a Nord or a character who doesn't know about the current events then it makes sense to escape with the Stormcloak guy but my character was Imperial so i stuck with my brosephs. i still don't really see why Ulfric got rid of Torygg other than to stir the sh*t. he wasn't the guy that signed the Concordat, and putting him away just makes the Legion weaker, not the Empire as a whole. after what happened in Hammerfell you'd think he would go straight for the Thalmor embassy or something but killing the High King just makes it seem like he has his own agenda going on and that this 'campaign' is just for his personal gain.
  19. it's not a coincidence that Alduin shows up right when they're about to kill Ulfric. part of the prophecy for the end of the world was that there would be a civil war - if Ulfric is dead then that would compromise the Stormcloak uprising. i don't think Alduin knows about the Dragonborn at this point let alone that he/she is seconds away from execution. the fact that you cheat death thanks to the World-Eater is just a little irony that Bethesda threw in to possibly reinforce the whole theme of fate and destiny in the story early on. just one interpretation of it. i think it's good that it's yet another thing left ambiguous by the developers.
  20. ^ right. the butthurtedness comes from the serious 11-11-11 hype and the promises (or maybe just implications) of how much more expansive and creative the game would be when in reality it is less open ended than its predecessors. it seems that the real hard work was done and it was just simple stuff that was looked over in the interest of shifting more product (this is not a stab at Bethesda - they gotta do what they gotta do and i congratulate them on their success with this game.) in some ways i preferred New Vegas to Fallout 3 so if a third party company were to do something similar for Skyrim, use the seamless gameplay and beautiful environments in a more non-linear story, we'd all be in for a serious treat!
  21. try save, turn immortal mode off, get killed, reload? edit-nevermind just caught that in the OP, my bad
  22. my main character was an Imperial and i wanted to side with the Imperial Legion in an effort to follow on with what happened in Hammerfell and get rid of the Thalmor. maybe too optimistic, right? ended up abandoning the whole effort.
  23. the burning question... did Bethesda sell out with this new instalment of the series? kind of a harsh accusation for the best company out there. i reinstalled Morrowind this afternoon and took a serious trip down memory lane. they don't make 'em like that anymore :-( we're spoiled by such a perfect game that was so far out of its time! but it's just not feasible to go back to that "true" RPG with the kind of audience that Skyrim has. on the other hand it's really cool to see all my CoD-loving friends playing a good game for once (even if it's on their xBoxes rather than the PC!)
  24. very good stuff in this thread. i'll echo a lot of it with some of my thoughts. the scenery, the dungeons, character creation... it was all stunning. movement and combat was also really well done. i liked the story too. the whole prophecy thing - it was interesting and fun to be a part of - ... except i wasn't really a part of it? the civil war thing seems very "FNV-influenced" but as far as i know doesn't have the flexibility. i want to help the Imperials calm the rebellion, destroy the Thalmor and in the end double-cross them and rule Skyrim on the back of my dragon brethren. either that or stay the f**k away from all of it altogether. furthermore, if i'd known saving the world from imminent doom by the end of the main quest would give me no reward whatsoever and change absolutely nothing about the world i'd burned away so many hours of by this point i wouldn't have done that either. some of the side-quests were fun but even the bigger ones that really tap into the Elder Scrolls story were inherently "talk to x, fetch y and kill z." with that said i have plans to replay the game when some of the UI mods and other goodies are refined so i can do the questlines i deliberately ignored for RP-reasons. i loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas so obviously i enjoyed this game too and playing it makes me really excited for what they do for Fallout 4.
