  1. Yes, I would agree with broken precombines. Be careful with scrap mods and Player Home/Settlement update mods. They are known to break precombines. Especially the earlier Settlement replacer/update mods from like 2017 or earlier. People did not know about, or pay much attention to that stuff back then. I stay away from scrap mods. If you use a player home/settlement upgrade mod, then ensure it says in the description that precombines are repaired. If this happened recently, try to remember a mod you may have installed that possibly caused this. Uninstall it and load an older save. See if it was fixed.
  2. I only merge mods not likely to break and are not light plugins. Clothing/Armor mods are perfect for this. I have all of Vtaw's mods with one plugin. Also DonEb. You can unzip files in separate mods and move them all into one Mod folder. Rezip and reinstall in game. Decreases the amount of mods you have listed in your game. MO2 Left side, not referring to plugins. Only do this for mods that make sense, like maybe mods with patches or a lot of extra features added for the main mod. I kept all of the Vtaw mods separate, but made the plugins hidden in each mod. Feature of MO2. Kept just the merged plugin active. If a merge does not work, then simply disable merged plugin. Re-enable all the individual mod plugins. Also, don't merge mods that are new and may be updated soon. Test any merged mod out at once in the game. Load save game before the time you enabled the merged mod if it messes up for you. You can also convert plugins into light ones. I think you can have up to 4000+ of those. Not sure if I want my plugin count that high even if it works. There are multiple methods you can work with. Merging is one. Converting to ESL or light plugins is another. If you don't use more than 50 or so plugins in your game, I probably would not bother with merging. Other performance efficiency items: Look at mods that use loose textures. Are they available in ba2 format. Loose files take longer to load and slow down your game. Look at performance guides. They will tell you how to tweak things like your .ini settings for better performance. Use performance mods like High FPS Physics Fix. If you use ENB play around with different ones to balance looks with performance. An ENB may make your game look awesome, but if it only lets you run at 5 FPS I would not use it. There are mods with batch files to automatically remove old ENB presets safely from your game folder. You can then load a new one to see how it performs. I was using one that brought my game to its knees. Could barely walk in downtown Boston. Now I run at steady 60 FPS, capped. I can go over 100 FPS but have the game capped at 60. I am using Luxor's 2k texture replacements with Luxor's ENB and my performance is great. I tend to look for ENB's that support NAC X and True Storms. Those two together make for some scary environments. Below is a mod with a collection of vanilla saves, with no mods installed. Main Quests Done Only Saves https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/28584?tab=files I like to use this to load at various places in the game. Same for mods because they are after the vault. When you are building up your mod lists and testing mods you may need to restart with a fresh save. Once in the game you can load your character preset back in via Looksmenu. You don't necessarily need Mods like Start Me Up or Alternate Start . If your goal is to just not start in the vault, then use a vanilla save.
  3. I know this is probably resolved now, but you can use M8r98a4f2's Complex Item Sorter along with the Fall UI mods. 4estGimp - M8r98a4f2's Complex Item Sorter Enhancements https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/51307 I started using Fall UI instead of DEF UI about a year or so ago. I kept seeing references to it coming up while loading other mods. I has been working great and there are lots of add on mods available. EDIT: If you don't want the complexity of Complex Item Sorter you can install FIS Fall UI Item Sorter by same author. It has a FOMOD and you can install the sorter as Light, Basic, or Pro. Pro version installs a Complex Item Sorter Plugin.
  4. Ensure you have Looksmenu v1-7-0-1 or v1-7-0-1 21-9 installed for Next Gen 1.10.984. The version with 21-9 at the end is for 21:9 aspect ratio. Game version 1.10.163.0 use v1-6-20 or v1-6-20 21-9 for 21:9 aspect ratio. (These are in the old files section). If you still have issues ensure you don't have loose files installed directly to your FO4 data folder. Most people use Mod Managers. They usually would not have manually placed files there unless directed by Mod Author. Also double check load order. You may need to disable all mods, except for CBBE and body texture mod if used. Also leave Bodyslide, Looksmenu and maybe LMCC enabled. LMCC is LooksMenu Customization Compendium. To be totally safe you could use a new game save for the purpose of testing. You can get vanilla ones on Nexus with no mods installed. This way you can troubleshoot your issue without starting over in the vault. I always use a vanilla save anyway. I have seen enough of Vault 111 and it creates problems with Mods being installed. You will want CBBE and body texture mods at the top of your Mod load order, followed by Looksmenu, and then LMCC if you use it. Don't forget to build your body in bodyslide. If you disabled all the mods except ones above then you will just have body and vanilla outfits. Launch game. See if the problems still persists after all this. If the problem is resolved then you can start enabling your mods. If the problem reoccurs after mod re-enable, ensure you have the correct load order.
  5. Updated ICONLIBS2 for DEF_UI https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13957 It adds icons to DEF_UI HUD. I don't use that anymore. I use FallUI. But I did use DEF_UI for many years.
  6. Look for later ones like 2021 and later. Also ones that say in the description Precombine and Previs Rebuilt. Back in the early days of FO4 people did not know a lot about breaking Precombines, myself included. Now you hear about it all the time. I hate flickering walls and building floors or walls that have disappeared. See if they are available in ba2 files instead of loose. Aurelianis has a lot of player home/settlement mods and the latest is an AIO. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/search/ VilanceD is another. Also has an AIO version. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/search/ You probably know this, but if you click on Requirements under the Description tab of a Mod of interest, you can see if there are any associated mods. There may be another fix or patch for the mod you are interested in using.
  7. z-edit is still available on GitHub by matortheeternal. It has not been updated since November 2022 but seems to still work. Not sure about Next Gen FO4. I still run Pre Next Gen. It has a portable version just like MO2. Just extract and place it somewhere. I put mine in the folder where I keep MO2. I am not sure about running with Vortex but with MO2 you run it within MO2 as an executable. Launch z-edit in MO2. Ensure game path is correct. Should be there already. You need to select Fallout 4 or add profile to z-edit if it does not exist. I think it will default to Fallout NV. z-edit works with FO3, FONV, FO4, Skyrim, etc. Select zMerge. It will default to zEdit. Create name of plugin. I add Merged to end so I know it is the merged plugin. I used Clean (New) for merge method. Click on Plugins tab and select your plugins to merge. I did tactical flashlights just now as it only has two plugins. Click OK. Click Build Merge. Wait for merge. It should pop up with window that says Merge Successful. Close out window. Close out z-edit. Your plugin should be in a folder called merged inside of your z-edit folder. Zip up newly created merged plugin folder and reinstall in MO2. Place below the mod you just merged. In this case Tactical Flash Lights. Ensure original plugins are disabled. You can click on them an hide them in MO2. Ensure new merged plugin is enable. Ensure plugin load order is still correct. Test mod out in game. You can also merge the new plugin into the original mod folder if you don't want two folders. I kept mine separate so I can easily enable the original plugins again in case it does not work in game. I was able to find tactical flash light at the chem station, so it looks like z-edit still works. Not all mods are good candidates for merging. Clothing is normally OK to merge if it the mod does not have a lot of dependencies. Vtaws Mods should be OK. I have all my Vtaw mods merged into one plugin. No need to merge light plugins. z-edit the tool contains zEdit, zClean, and zMerge. I just use the merge portion. Use FO4 Edit for the rest. I would do your merges when testing out your game. You will have a bunch of missing plugins that are burned into a save. Could cause problems. When you go to play for real, start a new game. I use a vanilla save file (No Mods in save) for that. You can redo your character in Looksmenu once game loads. Just ensure you save your character as a Looksmenu profile. This way if you end up starting the game over multiple times during mod installation you avoid having to create your character preset again. There are vanilla saves you can get here. I use one that has saves at multiple parts of the game. You don't need to start out in the vault every time and is safer when using mods anyway. If you load the mod cheat terminal you can use that to access Looksmenu from your Pip Boy. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13285
  8. Dank Rafft has a lot of clothing, weapon, and crafting mods you may want to look into. ECO Equipment and Crafting Overhaul. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/67679 NEO New Equipment Overhaul https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/65761 WOP Weapon Overhaul Project https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/69026 LIF Leveled Item Fixes https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/63914 Armorsmith Extended and AWKCR Armor and Weapon Keywords Community Resource seem to have fallen out of favor. They cause a lot of overhead and compatibility issues. There are patches you can get on Nexus to replace AWKCR dependency for most major clothing and armor mods. This mod is an example for AWKCR Patches. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/40752 Vortex and MO2 are the most popular mod managers. If you want to load and go then use Vortex. If you want to tweak, use MO2. Mods using BA2 files are all the rage as well. Makes games run more efficiently. Less screen stagger, loading, waiting, etc. If you use any environmental mods then make sure the have ba2 not loose files. Luxor's mods use ba2. A lot of people are using ba2. If you use ENB presets you may need to install them and play around with them in game. An ENB preset that worked well for one person may not look good or perform well for you. Use this to remove ENB preset cleanly so you can try again. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/5347 I will stop for now. Post getting too long.
  9. I have been stuck in workshop mode before. Usually because a mod is not installed correctly. If it happens you can go to console and type coc sanctuaryext I try to remember that one so I can escape. I typically don't use this for game play. You will need to go back and remove or fix the mod you think may be hanging you up in workshop mode. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=680910648 List of other coc commands if anyone is interested.
  10. Workshop Rearranged. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/16181?tab=files Had same identical issue. I use the colored concrete all the time so thought I would share this for others.
