  1. One of the things that bugs me most about Skyrim is that it is a land with few and far between consequences. As such decisions hold very little weight; cause often shows little effect other than the odd line from a guard "Is that fur...growing out of your ears?". I believe choosing, for example, to become part of a guild, should not only affect your relations with other factions and guilds, but also with Skyrim's varied inhabitants. One way I look at this is, if I were a prominent member of the Thieves guild (i.e. invested heavily in the quest line and related jobs), surely that would put me out of favour with the Companions, who boast honour and bravery etc etc. This could be represented in many ways; depending on your investment with the thieves guild you could be met with flat out refusal upon requesting entry to the Companions, or it would require heavy investment in speech skills to twist their arm. Other investments, like being a wearwolf, should also have long lasting affects. For example, any (bandit like) radom vampires could perhaps attack you on sight, based on their long hatred towards said houndish fiends. Perhaps I'm getting a bit carried away, but in my opinion, adding consequences to guild, factional or other important actions would vastly add to re-playablity, and the tailoring of your character to a certain role, assuming, of course, it is possible. Is there any support for this idea; obviously more of a premise than detailed guidelines, but nonetheless potent in my opinion?
  2. Please read, I don't know what to do. Perhaps I'm being stupid, and the solution is simple, but I can't find it anywhere, which rings warning bells for me. I recently wiped my hardrive; after stopping a printer/connector from starting at boot, I blue screened. It was probably linked to some sort of essential hidden process. Any attempt at fixing the problem was futile, so I resorted to backing up all my games and bits and bobs, users etc. in safe mode. T'was a long and boring process. I wiped my hardrive, and proceded to install all the basics, and created a backup (something I wasn't sensible enough to do last time). I then proceded to restore the games...fun! Anyhow, after mind boggling sarcasm, I ended up trying to play Skyrim, and I noticed it had only set my settings to medium quality when previously it was always set to ultra. After scratching my head for a while, making my freinds beleive I had lice, I realised something could possibly be different! To msconfig I rode, and low and behold, the core counter was set to 1 not 6 I was told. So I set it to 6 and maximum memory to be used, and restarted when prompted. Of course it wasn't that simple. If theres one thing consoles are good for it's their simplicity. I understand enabling more cores increases startup time, but this was bloomin ridiculous. After ages of my life that I shall never recover were spent waiting for the PC to start up, it then decided to realize I had typed in my password a manageable time of five minutes after! Time to go to the pub. I left it logging in, and returned to find a seemingly normal desktop. Nothing reacted to the mouse or mouse click. Ctrl Alt delete followed, and to my anguilalalala came up with a black screen and then prompted me that something was up with my PC and that I should turn it off by the button. Pfft, tell me something I don't know. I guess I should count my blessings, at least safe mode still worked. I reset the values to before, 1 core, and also un-ticked maximum memory, and restarted. Which brings me to the present, now, talking to you, my fellow intrepid PC brothers and sisters. I would be surprised if you are still reading up to now, but if you are, here's a metaphorical pat on the back, and maybe a hug for good measure. If you have any information on the problem, or even a solution, please share. Also, if my ineptitude is the problem, please resolve to swearing at me in your head, or perhaps sticking my name on a dartboard, or whatever floats your boat.
  3. It was merely an example. Surely though, if it's for my own use and I don't distribute it, it's not illegal? Anyway if it is, I won't, but do you know how to do it?
  4. For example, if I used youtube converter to get the Napoleon Total War theme, and wanted to use it to replace the title music, how would I do it?
  5. I wasn't saying that kajjits and elves HAVE to be Spanish or French...I was just posting suggestions. I chose those languages because they are the ones you can change skyrim language to through steam. It would be awesome if we could use different languages!
  6. I'm thinking this would really add to the feeling of the vastly different cultures in the game. For example, Nords could speak German, Imperials could speak Italian, Kajjits could speak Spanish, elves could speak French. I know there isn't enough to go around for each race, but it would still be a greater variety. Anyone feel up to doing it?
  7. Is there a way to change the language people speak, but keep English subtitles?
  8. I got a new tv - 24" 1920 X 1080, but Skyrim won't give me the option to set my res any higher than 1680 X 1050. Is there a way to override it?
  9. No, you don't understand me. I use all 6 of my cores, but the game only ever uses 2 no matter what.
  10. At the moment Skyrim only utilises two out of my 6 cpu cores. Is there a way for someone to mod it to use more, as I'm sure it would give everyone a huge boost in performance.
  11. I'm afraid I'm unable to do it myself. I posted it in the hope that someone else might be able to do it. Thanks anyway.
  12. They may have more voice actors than ever before, but the same ones still seem to come up all the time. Most general store owners sound the same, and the amount of people who sound like Farkas is unbelievable. My request is that all none random characters get their own voice. I understand the weight of the task, the manpower required and the time and dedication needed, but this could be the best and most immersive mod for Skyrim. You wouldn't need to know everyone, you could find a way to get people to send voices in. It is possible. (note I cannot do this for reasons concerning my Internet)
  13. Amen. I've got four cores of potentially game changing fps not being used! Damn thy Bethesda for making such a brilliant game with such bad performance.
  14. Sorry, I forgot to check up on the post. No there shouldn't be unless you have heat issues to begin with(if you did, you would know it). Thermal throttling purposely causes your CPU to be "underclocked" in certain situations. The main benefits are cooler idle temperatures and lower power consumption... It's one of those things that are better for laptops than for desktops. It limit's your PC's ability in order to conserve resources... it's completely unAmerican. :P I've heard of people having similar issues as you for some games because thermal throttling for whatever reason, on their system didn't give high enough priority to the application... Besides, if you have any issues just turn it back on. Older CPUs never had thermal throttling to begin with. The thermal throttling thing is much safer than overclocking, and generally increases stability. It's one of the few things I can think of that can be wrong with your setup. Always keep firewall on. lol Or your computer will end up being used as a zombie. Also, try running the game in Windowed mode and see if that helps... while you do that keep task manager open in the background and occasionally check up on your CPU usage and Memory Usage. That will give you a better idea of what is being strained. Side note: When your CPU overheats, it will automatically shut it'self down to prevent damage. So you would be getting errors and random restarts when you run the CPU hard if you had any heat issues... Besides, if you aren't overclocking heat shouldn't be an issue. I only have 4gigs of ram on my rig...and my video card only has 768mb..my CPU is only a Phenom x4 @ 2.8ghz(when not overclocked)...and I can play Skyrim on max and some times ultra with playable frame rates... and that's at 1920x1080 running on my 55inch TV  You have more ram than me, and probably faster ram than me, you have a faster processor than me with more cores. I have my firewall on, don't have an anti-virus installed(You don't need it too much unless you are downloading things from creepy sites, torrents)... So it cannot be a hardware issue. It must have something to do with software, whether it's setting or compatibility. Cheers. Don't worry, my firewall isn't off, I put it as a general meaning for - "it's not doing too much damage". I've just been using 11-11c drivers and I'm getting slightly better performance. I'll probably turn off thermal throttling tomorrow. I've heard though, that Skyrim only ever utilises two cores. I'm pretty sure if it used all 6 I would get much better performance. Any way to get it to use more?
  15. So, I get 60+ fps indoors anywhere. 45+ outdoors. However when looking at a town or in a town or city, it drops to under 15! I have tried everything, but to no avail. However, after looking for performance fixes, I heard that Skyrim performance doubles on 32bit and also only uses 2 cores. Is there a fix for this making it use more cpu cores? Is there also a 64bit compatibility fix? Would I get more performance by limiting the the cores used? My rig: Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1075T Processor 3 GHz RAM: 4GB System type: Windows 7 64 bit Case: Cooler Master Elite 430 PSU: OCZ StealthXstreamII 500 GPU: MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Motherboard: ASRock M3A770DE AM3 res: 1440x900 Performance enhancers: Game booster ini files shadow distance edited for performance defragged everything latest drivers, previous drivers wiped No overheating problems - lots of fans - good air flow skyrim 4gb + edited in ini to allow usage skyrim borderless window - doesn't really make a difference in fps for me Mods: I have allot of mods, but it doesn't matter because my performance is exactly the same as vanilla. Please help. I don't think I can play with such poor performance. Not even a game as good as Skyrim can make me overlook it.
  16. Firewall is already off. I use driver sweeper and ccleaner. To install that driver, should I wipe the current ones (using driversweeper) and then install?
  17. Just want to give an update. I have completely un-installed all mods and have measured fps using fraps. I have also un-installed and re-installed the game. In towns I get roughly 20 fps. However, when looking at opposite ends of the town, it drops to lower than 15 fps. E.G. standing in the middle of Riverwood, facing the entrance it drops to 15, however, when looking at Alvar's house, it rises to 20. When at the entrance of Riverwood looking at the other end also drops to 15 or less. This is the same with all towns and city's, except when at opposite ends of citys, it drops to under 10 fps. When looking in the direction of a town, even if far away, my fps drops to 15 fps. When not looking in the direction of a town, I get steady 45+ fps. Safe to say, I'm seriously hacked off. Why when I can run Battlefield 3 at 50+ fps constant, can I not run this game playable?! Also, I'm running the game 1440 x 900. @OnlyOneWing I'm a bit hesitant about turning it off. Are there any ramifications such as CPU overheating?
  18. I believe I... *puts on sunglasses*...was the original poster :D Yeah I put this up ages ago. Pretty much got people either saying they want it, or that it couldn't work. Either way, I still have hope.
  19. TRY THIS OP It worked perfectly well Done nothing for me. MSI 6950 Twin FrozR OC 2 gb, Phenom x6, 4gb ram here. I get piss poor frames around towns mainly.
  20. amd 6950 here. I get great fps indoors but piss poor around towns. Not to do with ini files though because it runs the same with the changes.
  21. I use gamebooster. Any background processes left are pretty much essential. I will be upgrading ram, psu and overclocking my cpu. I'm at a loss though. My GPU usage is barely half, a problem I have with many other games, and with some, even uses less in more taxing areas where it should be using more. I don't know what to do. I get horrible fps in Markarth, and when entering Whiterun and looking at Whiterun from Dragon's reach, and also when looking at towns with no walls, such as Riverwood, Falkareth and Rorikstead. I believe it could have something to do with the AI. When staring at an area of a town with no people, I get great fps. When I do look at people it becomes abysmal. Do you know of a fix for the low GPU usage or any of the other issues? I can't find where to give the PhysX rendering to my CPU anyway in AMD catalyst control centre. I also can't find where to turn off thermal throttling. Could you give me a step by step guide to find each? No problems with unnecessary programs and services. How can I find out about any driver issues? ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ I'm losing hope. I have no idea why it is running so poor, and I've tried almost everything. Could re-installing the game help?
  22. I should have probably mentioned that I'll likely be upgrading to a 750w in preparation. Cooling is not issue for me, I have worked out a very effective air flow. Temps are never worrying. Max GPU temp is 60 c, and thats only after hours and hours of gaming. Normal GPU temp is 34 c. Not sure my CPU temps, but I know that I have a huge fan cooling it. I guess background processes could have something to do with it. I'll check that out. Heat isn't an issue for me at all.
