  1. Is that NPC gone forever. In this case the blacksmith in Riverwood is dust.
  2. Been reading a lot of information about using enchanting to break down fortify destruction gear to then use to enchant each of 4 items to get 100% free casting. My question is this. I'm looking for the fortify destruction gear that I need to break down. I read that shops within cities randomly carry it. I did find an item that had 20% fortify destruction but not 25%. Am I not getting this right? Should it be 20% or 25%?
  3. Just curious. I read a lot in the beginning about how if you come across items with enchantments, not to sell them but instead break them down so you will have enchantments to cast on new stuff to raise your skill. So now that I have maybe 5 enchantments learned, is there any reason to hold on or break additional gear down? I was thinking that there is really no reason to break down an item unless it's an enchantment that you know you will be using or you're rich and just want the little bit of disenchant experience but there are other ways to get faster experience. Like just enchanting daggers and such with the enchantments you have already learned. Just want to make sure that I shouldn't be holding on to these or continuing to disenchant now that my skill is at 54, I have stuff to enchant
  4. Maybe I am just doing things the hard way. I usually use a bow to snipe first and then switch to destruction. But before I invest a bunch of points into destruction, should I be considering illusion or alteration? Does anyone use these other schools of magic and how does it go?
  5. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Having an awesome time with Skyrim. Actually started over after making some really bad choices with my first character. With this new one I am trying to carefully think through these perks and would like to get some advice. I am a mage wearing light armor (eventually dragonscale) and I am proficient with a bow. I use the bow to open and then with a combination of runes and destruction, I finish them off. These are the perks I am considering: Archery (Currently 52) Have spend probably 4 points so far for the zoom and slow time. Smithing (Currently 51) Purely to eventually make my dragonscale light armor Enchanting (Currently 54) To enchant said armor Destruction: (Currently 52) Primary offensive weapon Guess I'm wondering how many perks to start selecting. I would really like to also go alteration or illusion and maybe pickpocket but I don't want to overextend myself and then later in the game when perks come few and far between, hate myself for not picking maybe just 3 lines to build up. So how many is realistic?
  6. I went to disenchant the apprentice robes of destruction. Before I disenchanted them the stats were 15% destruction and 50% regen. Now it's like 5% and 10% regen. Just trying to understand why. Does it have something to do with my enchanting level? I'm a mage and want to wear light armor so I want to put the same stats as the robe on the light armor. Any help here?
  7. I'm a mage with archery and want to train in above 50. I see that Aela is an archery trainer but I think I have to join them to train up. My question is whether I am limited to just joining one group or what? I also plan on joining the college at Winterhold.
  8. I selected novice destruction and then dual cast. But when I went to select Impact, it won't let me. I thought maybe I had to select Apprentice first, but it won't let me select that one either. Is there some requirement to select a different perk or ?
  9. I've spent the past couple of hours reading what people have posted to date about armor, smithing, enchanting, etc. Having said that, I am still confused about what direction I want to take my toon. I was convinced that smithing/enchanting was the way to go at first. I thought it would be cool to see my mage in daedric armor. Here's the thing though. Someone else posted that with the spells available, a mage has an AC of 300 and won't need daedric. Then I got to wondering if I should be trying to skill up light or heavy armor. To get to daedric, I think you have to go steel, dwarven, orcish and then daedric. I think those are all heavy armor. As a mage with low strength, that is not going to give me much room to carry stuff. Hence, why I'm wondering what you guys are doing. I'm thinking that I want to go mage but I also want to shoot a bow and perhaps have a backstab ability. The way I understand it, pure mages with only magic skills have a tough time end game. Might be good to have two or three combat skills. Thoughts?
  10. I'm thinking that if you earn skills 25% faster, you also gain levels 25% faster which I don't think is a good thing. Don't we want to gains as much as possible before leveling?
  11. I'm a bit confused as I recently read someone indicating that I can pay for training of spells at Winterhold College and then pickpocket the money back. I selected mage at the stones at the beginning at the game. Is that why I don't see an option to pickpocket my money back? I am unclear about this. Can a mage cast spells? I always thought that a thief was kind of like a rogue and followed either the sniper or backstabber route. I feel like I have made so many mistakes or missed opportunities that I could have taken advantage of so I think I will start over and do it right. I just want to understand how a mage can pickpocket if such a thing is possible.
  12. I began a different thread yesterday but the topic changed and felt that it was appropriate to begin a new topic with the correct subject. Here was the original thread: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/468066-question-regarding-sneaking-skill-and-level-balance/ My main concern is that when I focus on one particular skill without adventuring or questing, it causes me to level up way to fast and create unbalance when facing mobs. I am trying to figure out what the best method would be to make sure that I take advantage of skillups for each level. Is there no way to turn experience off? I was hoping to use a mixture of trainers and adventuring to maximize my stats and skills before each level up. Has anyone found an effective way to do this? For example, my first toon I just played normal and adventured as most would and I played a destruction mage. Here was the thing though. I leveled well in destruction and minored in restoration but I really wanted to also have better stats in illusion. Problem is, I was playing destruction so I wasn't using illusion, thus no numbers there. I have seen many posts about those who raise there sneak by going behind an NPC and going into sneak mode to raise their sneak level which in fact does work but it also raises your game level at the same time. So these guys are getting their 100 sneak but are then also at level 14 without having played the game! Is there an answer for this? Thanks.
  13. This whole thing got me wondering something. At the beginning of the game, we walk by those 3 stones and you select one right? So let's assume for a moment that I select magic. Now using magic based skills mean that I level 25% faster when using those skills. This can actually work as a disadvantage if your goal is to obtain a wider range of skills, ie pickpocket, sneak, etc. The reason I say this is because if I primarily use magic skills it will make me level all the faster when what I really want to do is keep from leveling fast. Does this make sense? I think I remember something like this in Morrowind also. The goal was to obtain high skills without going up in level to quickly. I am thinking that this may work the same way. So if I am wanting to be a mage, what I actually want to do is choose the warrior stone so that I will not increase my level as quickly. Before I go on and make more of an ass out of myself, maybe someone who knows more can tell me how this all works. Thanks.
  14. I read somewhere about how one can get to 100 sneak at the beginning of the game. I tried this and yes I did get to 100 sneak but I also got to level 14 without even adventuring yet! Does this create problems for me when I start fighting stuff? The way I understand it is that the mobs I encounter increase with my level. My first character is like level 9 with a sneak of maybe 20 but he has gear, weapons, experience and such. Opinions please?
