  1. i know this is an old topic...but i i had a kinda related problem. I had oberland station quest its a radiant quest from minuteman to go kill raiders over in backstreet alley or whatever. So i did that but it didnt complete, i cleared entire area, i even tried kill all, ressurecting the "boss" npc, resetting quest...nothing helped So i started looking into more commands and i found that i can set stage of quest etc, and advance it, well i got excited and hit stage 40, which for some reason auto-fails the quest..says report back to preston though...fail...sigh so i reloaded a save, and this time i set stage up to the part that was bugged (kill all the raiders) so then it said to return to oberland to turn in, so i did..but...stupid npcs dont reconize that i was even on the quest all they have is generic dialog...damnit So at that point i was like screw it, lets reset the quest, but of course that didn't help because the quest comes from Preston so i am guessing i would have to go to him to get quest again...problem with that is...he's at the castle i was on the quest with him that said meet him at the castle but i left him there cuz i wanted to keep exploring before doing that part of the game (this was before i knew about choosing a faction etc) So thats kinda not an option cuz as soon as i were to port myself to him, it would start the castle quest event, and idk what would happen if i ported him to me, probably cause problems for sure So then finally i was like lets just set the workbench to mine, and i came across this post and i am about to try it, because that quest is now fubar'ed in my log, cant complete, start over, its stuck saying return to station all checkmarks greyed out..but doesnt update...le sigh i reallllly hope i dont have to do this whole process over again, such a PAIN..IN..THE...ASS
  2. there is a mod on the mod section of skyrim nexus that forces the game not to repeat their banter when you get near, and the other optional part of it gives you a 50% in creased range on them so you have to be right up on them. The mod is intentioned to fix where you will be talking to a person and someone will be 100 feet away walking down the street and butt into your convesation and it overlaps the voices its annoying check out that mod, i forget name of it, easy enough to find on the mod site
  3. first off i know my specs for my PC arent the greatest this machine was build in school (when i was doing my A+ cert) its a 2008 era, its got a 512 Nvidia 8600gs card, but the game runs just fine on most settings medium to low and without heavy stuff like shadows and so forth Windows 7 32 Professional, latest drivers, 4 gigs of ram, AMD X2 dual core anyways i run into a few crashes when playing for prolonged periods of time, game runs great but after a few hours of playing sometimes it will crash without warning, just poof, back to desktop no error messages nothing, its strange the reason for my post is that i know in the past morrowind and maybe oblivion had memory leaks or known to be buggy like that where if you played for a few hours eventually it would crash, but ran great after restarting...is there any known memory leaks yet for skyrim? has anyone else had random non-graphics (at least i think) crashes? everything else works great, and i'm enjoying the game but its just when i play a few hours...a minor annoyance but to confound it further earlier tonight i was doing a quest (the one where you challenge the guy in whiterun to a drinking contest, then pass out and wake up at the temple, and she tells you to pick up your mess) well i clicked on the chick to talk to her, and i heard a "ding" sound, and game froze/locked up and it was a major freeze, i lost my mouse cursor, i tried to alt-tab, everything i could think of, and nothing responded, music was still playing entire time though finally i hit control alt delete, pulled up task manager, tabbing through things and trying to kill the game was really hard because i lost my mouse cusor, as if it was stuck in the game window screen (which was now black) and it took me 10 minutes finally was able to tab and hit enter to close it then buried under all that in the background was a message that said: Runtime error: TESU.exe R6025 Pure Virtual Function Call and i had to tab/enter to hit ok but the system was stable and i havent restarted since, but going to call it a night on the game so what does the runtime error mean? i was just looking for others who have had similiar issues, and maybe know what R6026 VFC is, but love the game! its addicting to bad i gotta go to work in a few hours =(
  4. here is a question for you guys about companions...do you even need to use companions? I haven't gotten really far into the game so far, but i didnt realize at first that you could get followers. It was strange how i stumbled upon it. I did the series of events backwards for the whole faegarth (name) and other dude who both love the chick that runs the shop in riverwood. I talked to sven (name) first, and he said to give the letter to her saying it was from the elf dude, but i went then to elf dude and told him sven was trying to muddy his name but i had previously finished the dungeon with the golden 3 claw thing (before even coming to riverwood) so when i went into the shop to talk to the chick, it started the script for finishing/starting the quest (introductory then skipped right into finished it) and her brother the shop keep, kinda bugged out in a way since i had the claw, the game kinda skipped ahead in conversation points so anyways, after that i went upstairs, and she was sitting there, and the elf dude came upstairs and sat next to us (totally love how npcs interact and move on thier own in this game!) and i had a conversation with the elf and her, but the elf seemed like he had no prior re-collection (spelling) that i had done the letter thing, and he was stuck in the script/dialogue. So i went back outside and down the street and i bump into the other dude, and a few clicks later it said something about i want you to come with me, it didnt say hey do you want to be my companion, the option was simply to follow me so i was like ehh? wth? so i went back into the shop and told him to wait...and he's still standing there waiting.... So i think i screwed up the series of events somehow, i wanted the elf dude as a follower, since my character is a wood elf and i wanted to keep that roleplay aspect...but it seems broken now, and i can only get other dude with me, even though the elf still talks to me like nothing has happened, but occasionally he says "you want to talk to me after everything you've done?" and then you click on him again and he's all friendly....so weird! is this glitched/bugged or what So back to my question, do i even need companions? i do just fine doing exploring/quests/killing on my own..is a "follower" the same as a "companion" in whiterun at the inn there is a dark elf sitting in the corner that offers her services to you to come along and become a companion..i clicked no for now...but that wasnt the same as me talking to lover boy in riverwood, because with the elf chick it aucutally asked me do you want her as a companion? so...is there a difference here? i'm really confused lol Do companions become mandatory later on? or is just to help out and adventure with someone not to feel so "by yourself" all the time?

  6. hmm i had been clicking to equip on the favorites thing, i didnt realize/see that you could assign a number...maybe that would be a huge help. because before i'd click on my weapon and then the shield, it would have the little icon like you equipped it from the inventory menu, so i thought ok both are equipped, i exit the favorites thing and i am standing there with just shield on, and thats when i go in and equip/unequip both in different combinatons till it finally gets what i want, its very cumbersome like that so maybe i'll look at it and see about assinging a number, and if i can just hit "1" for 1hand/shield and "2" for magic (or bow) that wouldnt be so bad i guess, but this clicking and equipping to get it to switch to proper setup drives me nuts...i dont even use anything now but a bow but when i start a warrior i'd imangine i'd want some flexibility then thanks for suggestion..i'll try that out
  7. I am in the same spot at the moment. Quests...so many...quests. If anything for a mod idea we need a overhauled quest system, even a better "list" and style so we can just bring up a master list of everything at once, and have the details on the right (maybe even like wow?) i find that the quests in the log dont seem important they are just there, the game makes no emphasis on any 1 quest, they are just another number, if that makes sense? Its like they said ok we are going to create 1000 random quests that come from 100 different places/ways/areas and they can just do them as they want That was my problem with Morrowind too, i spent so much time off doing side quests and exploring that i never finished the main story, lost track of where i was, and had done things that killed scripts or events that were supposed to happen, so i had to reload and it was a mess. At least with Skyrim it keeps you on main path and you know exactly where to go and where you left off. Morrowind didnt that have that...not so much. Also the developers made this game with the exploration/quests in mind first and foremost, as soon as i left that first town burned down by the dragon, i said ok, which direction do i want to go...(closed my eyes and pointed) and off i went, after 15 minutes i had lost the dude that was with you, i guess supposed to follow him...so i was all alone and prcoeeded through 3-4 dungeons before i even decided to head to the first "town" and i didnt even know i'd stumble into dude from the start, so i was just exploring and walked into a house and BAM dude was sitting there like i hadnt been gone for 3 days and updated my main quest...lol.... Also i find that even if i clear areas as i come across them, the game is setup to accomodate that at least so far. For example i went and cleared the dungeon that get the 3 claw key thing from i cleared that all out, when i went to the 1st town, dude was rewarding me and all this, and i hadnt even been on that quest, but it updated and it was really confusing at first, i didnt even know there was a quest for it? so i guess in some situations its best to follow along. Also i cleared out the barrows and got the dragonstone long before i even made it to whiterun, when i finally got to the keep and wizard dude, he gave me the quest, which i just then immediately turned in (the dialog reflected this...so they did sorta plan for people if they finished the dugneon before coming to the keep) But as far as side quests...there is random people on the road, people walk up to you (couriers) handing you letters and items for quests, there's quests hidden all over, i've bought items from the shop in whiterun and dude later says i see you have the flaming something i dont know how it ended up there, but if you can return it to me...i mean really? the game is already epic enough with the size of the map and areas...but the depth of the quests and tasks...you end up playing far far longer than any other RPG i've played (cept for maybe final fantasy 7...but thats another story) and its still FUN. Even at max level i know i will be cruising every old area and trying to complete every quest...only to realize that since some choices open up certain quests and change certain outcomes...you will have to re-roll several playthroughs to even see "everything"................. *dies*
  8. well yeah i guess thats 1 thing, when does the creation kit come out? I just really hope the community can fix it up, because it would make the game 100x better for me, and probably a lot of others. Its 1 thing to say hey well you should choose 1 style and stick with it (like archer only using bows) but there are a lot of times you need that 1 hander/shield or some magic, and clicking through all that just to do what you want, gets old fast, especially in the middle of combat.
  9. does this also apply to rings? i had 2 silver rings (same name) and i enchanted both (different enchants) and i can only equip one of them? are some items unique? or can we only just equip 1 ring at a time? i would think we can do 2 rings? bug? /confused
  10. See what i dont get with skyrim and i noticed this from the beginning, is that when i used to play morrowind it was a simple task to switch weapons, and magic etc and all that. Correct me if i am wrong (its been awhile since i played Morrowind) if you had a weapon out, you just scrolled the mouse up, it would switch to caster mode, and vice versa, at least thats what i remembering having it set up as? So why cant we do something extremely simple like that in Skyrim? i read a lot of people having issues with switching and cumbersome setups to go from say dual wield to cast and back. The "favorites" system isnt really all that great either, it saves some time, but when you use it, it pauses the game, and you click on the setup, then the game resumes, for me that kills the immersion a bit to have to constantly click through menu's just to switch modes? There doesn't seem to be any hotkeys or way to set keys for anything to resemble a saved setup in the game, which really wish there was. Also i started out using 1 hander and shield, and to switch them, the game confuses the bejeezus about of me with its reference to right hand and left hand and which mouse button does what, because half the time i'd click my 1 hander, click my shield, it would unpause, and i'd be standing there with just the shield on, attacking with my fists...the 1 hander disspears off my belt where it hangs, so i go back into the favorites thing, click off and on, and it will get me what i want, but i have to click a million times in different combinations to get it to EQUIP 1 HAND AXE AND SHIELD at the SAME time...am i doing it wrong? because this frustrated me a lot, because if i wanted to switch to my bow for some ranged (or even magic) when i wanted to go back to 1hand/shield i'd have to do the click dance again....sigh So what is preventing us to have a simple scroll up or down to switch stances? wouldnt that be the best solution? the game would be so much smoother imo, stroll into a dungeon, with a bow, snap an arrow into a dude's head, his guards come up, scroll up, bam 1hand/shield ready to go, fight them, and then scroll down for healing magic...SIMPLE right?? the combat in this game is above and beyond and great over the older elderscroll games...but they have cluttered it up a bit to switch modes or something.
