First shadowspade I want to say that I admire and am happy for your courage to post this. Vulnerability with people who will be supportive and empathetic is the first step towards healing. [it is a lie that real men don't share their emotional pain. my two college room-mates played ball for baylor and the reason they and I have good relationships with our family and wives now is that we made the smart choice to be men not boys and open up about our fears/worries etc about growing from big scared kids into men. we each had different levels of childhood s*** and we talked a lot about it. two of us got therapy. ] Finding male friends who will listen and not say stupid s*** can be hard. I suggest a therapist. a good one can be hard to find. some will just listen and accept you if that is what you need that is pretty easy to find. there is something called SLIDING SCALE...it means that a therapist will lower the cost according to your income. maybe you have good insurance I don't know. Sanity is worth the money you pay. Also, light doses of anti-depressants can help deal with the intensity of the pain as you deal with it. for some people this numbs them out. Note: if you do start taking meds...be sure to tell doctors any side effects you don't like rather than just quitting. because they will work with you. so many dudes quit because they gained 15 lbs or their little fireman would not fire or whatever. I always write down my questions for psych doc cause I forget when I am with him. When it comes to therapy, social workers have a more broad approach and some people like them cause they are more action oriented than psych types. Thing I have learned: You are stuck with you. So become your own best friend. Decide you will care for yourself, treat yourself with respect, and BE KIND TO YOURSELF. you deserve it. Shadow, you never deserved to be so mistreated as a child. I am sorry for your pain. There an online professor called Brene Brown she may be of some help if you deal with shame issues (a lot of men do) She says what we men fear is "appearing weak" and we go to great lengths in life to cover our emotions, be tough, be successful etc. to avoid being shamed by looking weak. Empathy short video Finally a quote from desidarta: Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline (meaning routine/pattern), be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Idea for a pinned thread for mods are orphaned/modder is quitting
kelticpete replied to kelticpete's topic in Site Support
point in fact: I recently saw a very large alpha mod. about 20 posts in last 2 years asked "when is this going to be updated?" The mod author's last post was "I will get around to updating it." That was two years ago. I sent him a very nice private message and asked him if he was going to continue with mod and if not, if someone else could. His reply was as follows: "Anyone may take over it anytime they want. It is free to be used by anyone, in any way they wish. " So here is the deal. do you think he did not KNOW he could post in the readme section? do you think he did not know that people wanted it updated? maybe he never thought about letting someone else take over. this thread would help put that idea out there. my whole point is that if there is created, apart from the mod itself, a SPACE for abandonware, it raises the profile of the issue. "Hmm. I have not gotten around to do updating my mod. I will put a short post on that pinned thread" Why is this different than putting it on their own mod? I think it IS different to decide to drop a note on a public thread than to decide to put it up on your own mod. also, only people that currently know about your mod will then see it. I think it is having the redundancy of a pinned thread as a second place is a good idea. secondly, when a modder decides to drop his mod you have to Go There To Find It Out. . whereas if a person was looking to jigger around with a mod, they could go to that thread and see what mods were there. I can't think of how many really good mods have just been left on the side of the road in a ditch. of course, some of those mod owners, even though they have decided to no longer update or work on their mods (which often were not finished) will decide they don't want to reliquish it. fine. then the pinned thread is not for them. -
I originally thought of this for Fallout New Vegas Mods/Boards but I think this applies to any mod forum on nexus. [FYI: the concept of abandonware is in this link here | Quick definition: Abandonware is a product, typically software, ignored by its owner and manufacturer, and for which no product support is available. Although such software is usually still under copyright, the owner may not be tracking or enforcing copyright violation. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I have been kicking around the concept of a pinned thread for mod authors to post when they officially decided they no longer have time to work on a mod or have decided to move on, with the idea that other people can contact them about taking over the mod. (EDIT: this means that the mod author is stating they WANT someone to take it over.) This is what I think happens: Someone gets pumped about modding. If they find they have a gift/knack it quickly can become popular. They are now busy and have fans. This is cool but a responsibility. Eventually some of them will: a) Realize they are good at modding but don't want to do it b) Like modding but don't like to deal with negative feedback or whatever, for social reasons get tired of modding c) Love modding but get Significant other, new job, school change, etc that means they no longer have the time d) For other reason they just no longer have time Modders tell themselves "Hey I will get back to it." They see posts asking about updates but don't answer or answer but then two years later nothing has happened. I can't tell you how many threads I have seen where a mod author replies to requests for updates with "I plan on doing this soon." and I see the post was made in 2012 and that was his/her last post. Perhaps subconscious anxiety keeps former modders from going to forums and answering or dealing with their old mods, in my opinion lets not debate. Others might not care. But I think that this happens largely because there is currently no mechanism/protocol for what do when a modder decides to quit a mod. If a modder has formed ties to other modders or has modder fans, then sometimes a modder volunteers to take on mod. But often that does not happen. If we created a PINNED THREAD for modders to announce they are leaving their mod up and will allow other people to take it over, then I think some people's favorite old mods will be able to continue on. Is this a silly idea? Comments? Feedback? Flames? :pirate:

A lot of people have been asking if the mod Vault 24 will be updated. It will not. It is "abandoned" but the author is willing to give it up for adoption more details on this mod: Vault 24 to quote author "is a full sized, [able to fit a] 1000 person vault. Currently it is in an Alpha state. As such you can expect some slightly unfinished areas, gaps, no NPCs or Monsters, and no quests. Performance will be choppy as there has been optimization on the upper levels only. " Cambragol is the author and he has said anyone may take over the mod, he had not updated it in 3 years and was more than happy for someone else to use his work. Anyway, this is just a publice service announcement.

New Vegas Console Commands
kelticpete replied to C0rrup73d's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
I appreciate your taking the time to gather these codes. one thing to know, they are all up on fallout wikia. not in such a compact form. btw, once this thread gets buried it may be hard to find this exact thread for people unless you edit and include really good key words. -
cool idea. I think I would be a follower of the apocalypse in the game. create my own faction? my current character pretty much is his own faction. :) I like the goals of the prodigium but it seems like a one man beneficient wave. what happens when he gets old? what happens when people disagree with him?

Why Do You Play Fallout NV?
kelticpete replied to KKrueger's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
I think I play the rpg style games because of many factors. 1) story/characters/narrative -- I like the story and the choices. 2) exploring/finding things/ -- curiousity is activated. 3) hoarding/finding/inventory management. I love underground hideout and collecting things in game. finding all the pieces of something, etc. collecting and making things. 4) shooting s#*!. 5) the right to not shoot s#*!. what I like about skyrim/morrowind/fallout style games is that I don't, like in Call of duty or even borderlands, have to just fight fight fight all the time. I love borderlands but it is high testosterone all the time killing and running. very little flavor text and lot of the plot is audio. it is very ADD compared to the M/OS/Fo3/FNV genre. I can go fight deathclaws on their promotory, do a run against the fiends, and then I can go to town, play blackjack, sell stuff, organize my loot, mod weapons, change gear, etc. go talk to people, go read notes in pipboy I might not have etc. in these games I set the pace. 6)also I like the growth/leveling/,mastery it is satisfying to start out crappy at stuff and then get good and then get SUPERSAWESOME!!!! it feels good. I played skyrim on Master, and it was way harder. I used no cheats. the game stayed harder way longer (thought eventually it got easy except for a few dragons and they were easy if I had not stupidly travelled with no potions of buffing my resistance/archery etc) I like them because I am the protaganist! -

Thanks god obsidian dosn't make an other fallout :)
kelticpete replied to 3AMt's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
to assault the word "game" and mock it is to misunderstand how we learn. children and adult learn well not just from hard work or routine latin discipline but from play. there is a cliche, "the work of a child is to play" children learn alot while playing. when I was in gifted and talented in the 4th grade I told my mother we never "learned" anything in gifted classes but she just laughed as she saw all the objectives and list of stuff we were learning as the super-brilliant teachers had us doing fun projects and choosing stuff that we felt was goofing off but actually was teaching all sorts of things (everthing we would have learned in regular class and more) anyway, the more simple a game, the more repetitive, the less one really had a deep exeperience with it. I see the point that a great RPG or even a great interactive adventure can make you think more than say a puzzle jumper. games are good. they all just have DIFFERENT purposes and different benefits. regular sports games can teach you leadership, teamwork, courage, mercy, good behavior, endurance, etc.... or it can just make you a self focused competetive prick. it depends on if you are taught/guided by your self and others. anyway, I am tireds of typing on this -
What would cause a mod to lag badly in game?
kelticpete replied to irswat's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
If you want to keep the mod, you either have to talk to mod author for help; get better at geck and do some fixes yourself, or decide to overhaul your performance issues in general other ways (mods/tweaks/etc) -
setstage and mod quests.
kelticpete replied to kelticpete's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
that worked! It was setstage 11002b6f ! -
I am having trouble with a quest with the mod red cross. it is a very intersting but BUGGED mod. anyway, the npc won't talk to me that is supposed to talk to me. I tried to setstage like I do in skyrim. I went to form id of quest and it said 01002b6f for quest aaqmartin. my load order number is 31 and mod number is 50 or other way around. I tried setstage with setstage 01002b6f 60 setstage 31002b6f 60 setstage 50002b6f 60 setstage aaqmartin 60 i think I am doing it wrong. help?
