  1. Hi guys. I've been playing Skyrim for at least 2 months now and my favorite skill is Smithing. I'm not sure if this has been discussed before but I haven't seen such a topic on the forums. After some analysis, I realize that the Smithing Tree/Perks were not well designed. Some could say the same for other skill trees as well but I'd like to address Smithing particularly since it's one of the most used skills in the game. I know that there are those who created mods in an attempt to fix or improve Smithing and I salute them. Headbomb particularly seems to working towards the right direction but I think there's still more that can be done. First off, the perk progression IMO are somewhat messed up. After the Basic Smithing perk the tree branches off to three namely Arcane Smithing, Elven Smithing, and Dwarven Smithing. Arcane Smithing is simply a one shot deal and a dead end. The path of Elven Smithing basically represents "light armors" while the Dwarven Smithing path is for "heavy armor". It's seems pretty simple but next Elven Smithing in the skill tree progression is the Advanced Smithing perk which looks very out of place. Glass Smithing isn't very appealing since it's slightly better defense over Elven but heavier. The "heavy armor path" seems better however getting Dragon Smithing feels very lackluster since Daedric Smithing is far better in every way and you can get it before getting Dragon Smithing. Dragon Smithing seems only a compromise and just different aesthetics. Light Armor users can benefit with Dragonscale armor but that's about it if you play vanilla. Second, is how the Smithing perks only categorizes to just Light armors, Heavy Armors, and Enhancements. Out of the 10 perks only 2 are enhancements (Arcane Smithing and Advance Armors) IMHO, I feel that each Smithing type should have their own unique properties and should have both light and heavy armor versions and not be classified exclusively to just light or heavy similar to Dragon Smithing. Some might argue that ingot material used in crafting them classifies the armor as "light" or "heavy" which is quite valid. However I don't see why both light and heavy armor can't be crafted with the same main ingot material. At least if they have their own unique properties switching to another armor/weapon of a different smithing type isn't necessary unless you are after it's special qualities. On a side note the quicksilver ore is the most useless of all the Smithing material components. It's only used for crafting Elven weapons and Elven Gilded Armor and can just be thrown away or sold if you don't use Elven gear. I have no idea why Bethesda even bothered adding quicksilver at all. It just makes crafting Elven gear harder which I find stupid since it's one of the earlier perks on the Smithing tree. Anyway, that's my opinion on Skyrim's smithing. I love the skill but I feel that it could have offered more with a better design. Feel free to express your own opinion on the subject but please no flaming or bashing.
  2. Hi 'Vanilladafunk. Thanks for replying. Unfortunately I don't quite remember exactly how it happened. The only thing I recall was fighting a spriggan and a bear in a cave around that time. And even then I'm not even sure if the bug actually happened there. I've already tried the showracemenu console command before and I thought that fixed it after I shifted the race or sex bar. But whenever I load any save game it would simply revert back to the bug. But I'll take your advice though I don't have any real experience with the CK. I guess my very final option might be to start over and somehow "recreate" my game to what it is now using console commands. But that would be extremely tedious to do. In any case I was planning on starting a new game anyway. I started playing without any mods installed and now I'm using so many of them it might give me a new experience if start over. This I more or less know what to do it won't be as hard. Thanks a lot Rabbit. I'll try to search for it. But I hope that thread you mentioned wasn't the one I made last week on the same issue and no one was able to reply to it aside from me unfortunately.
  3. For the past week or so my avatar has somehow gotten some sort of effects bug/glitch which I cannot remove no matter what I do. She has that green spriggan's aura effect and her eyes are glowing. I unfortunately don't have an older save game before this incident happened and I'm stuck with it til I find a fix. I thought using console commands would help but to no avail. Even removing all my mods and re-installing Skyrim doesn't fix it. It seems that my last resort would be the CK. I wouldn't really want to start over since I'm already lvl 72 and later parts in the game. I understand that it has only been a little more than a week since its release and it was primarily designed to create mods for Skyrim. But to those who have a better understanding of the software do you think the CK will be able to permanently fix it? If it can, can you please give some advice or tips on what I should do? I would most appreciate it if you can assist me. If the CK is unable to fix it then I might have to forward my concern to Bethesda but my hopes are rather low for them coming up with a resolution. Below is an image of my avatar with the glitch/bug. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f175/bumbayker/th_TESV2012-02-1708-07-37-81.jpg
  4. Hi there. May I ask from which mod did you get the dragonscale helmet in one of your images here? I think it looks great compared to the original. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/imageshare/image.php?id=40430
  5. This request has probably been asked before but I'll post it anyway. It's pretty straightforward as the title states and it's probably pretty simple to the experienced modder. Though I like how some of the helmets look in Skyrim I sometimes like to see my character's complete face without having to unequip them. The best one I could find at the moment was just a converter via smithing and you lose all upgrades and enchantments (which kinda sucks). I don't want This mod would basically have all of helmet's properties but instead uses the circlet texture. And if possible in addition you can also choose which circlet texture appearance to match with your armor. Anyway, if anyone has already created such a mod please let me know. Thanks you very much in advance if someone decides to accept this request.
  6. As much as I hate bumping my own thread it's quickly getting pushed back. I hope someone knowledgeable enough can advise me on what to do to possibly fix this.
  7. Though Skyrim is IMO an incredible game I somehow felt there were some stuff they could have added to make the game experience much better. After watching that video it pretty much confirmed my thoughts. I don't think some of those features can be simply done with the CK. It might be possible but it would probably be much harder to replicate compared to what Bethesda's development team can do with their tools. Let's hope we see most of those features in the near future either as DLC or in a future expansion pack. I prefer the former than the later though.
  8. Oh nevermind. I finally figured out how to fix it. EDIT: Or maybe not. I thought switching genders in race menu resolved it but it didn't. :(
  9. For the past few days I've been experiencing a weird effects glitch on my character. It doesn't really hamper my gameplay but it's very annoying visually. I have this glitch that has the Spriggan aura effect and my character's eyes are glowing. I can't remember exactly how it happened but the last instance I recall before it occurred was fighting a Spriggan Matron I thought at first it was caused from a disease and could cure or by one or more of the many mods I use for Skyrim. But after removing all of them and re-installing the game the glitch is still there. I'm hoping I accidentally triggered it via console command and its not a corruption of my save games files. II thought I was able to remove the glitch by entering the race menu via console but it just reverts back when I'm done. tried looking for a command that might fix this but none of them match the description of this glitch effect. Below is an image of my character without mods after re-stalling Skyrim. If anyone can help me resolve this I'd be most grateful.
  10. Thanks a lot MShoap13. I checked the plugins.txt and DLClist.txt files and they were already writable. I don't understand how it's a UAC issue when my profile is the main administrator. Since I use Windows XP I won't be able to use the other procedure you advised. I'll try uninstalling and re-installing Steam to another location and hopefully it works.
  11. Hi. I seem to be experiencing problems with some mods I use and they don't function anymore when I install them to my Skyrim data folder. They use to work but they occasionally stop working for some unknown reason. I'd n9rnally re-install them with NMM to get it to work again but now none of them work no matter what I do. I've tried manually installing them and even completely re-installing the game and removing all the mods I used but to no avail. AFAIK I'm not using any mods that are conflicting with the mods I'm having trouble with. The following are the mods that I can't seem to work anymore: Lost Arts of the Blacksmith by Impulseve Craftable Circlets by Monochrome Wench Arrowsmith Reupload by Samutz Collector's Edition Breezehome and Honeyside by Shawk All Body Mods compatible Female Mannequin by Koryushin Weapons and Armors Fixes by Headbomb There may be others that I haven't noticed since i use many mods but the ones above the most apparent. The last thing I remember doing before it happened was installing Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 to get the NPC Editor to work. I tried untinstalling it and even ran a system restore to a few days back but still those mods won't work. I hope someone can shed some light to why they're not working anymore and maybe help me fix it. Thanks very much in advance if anyone would assist me on this.
