Eventually I figured my problem out, I was running steam as administrator but not the SKSE launcher. Changed SKSE launcher to start as admin and all was well. Duh, right?

I had no problems running SkyUI with SKSE until a couple of days ago, it suddenly stopped working and I get the "may need to wait for an update" message in game. I looked at my versions of both, they seem to be current -- is anyone else having this problem?
