  1. Well I'm glad this was all cleared up. And thanks again for understanding and answering my questions. I'm not guilty(not as much anyway) anymore. But know I'm worried if this may come back to haunt Bethesda in the future. I mean I will most definitely not be purchasing used PC games without more careful research(As I made a similar mistake with buying Fallout 3, Windows 7 makes it unplayable levels of unstable). But what about others? I'm sure they are far less willing to cut Bethesda some slack. Especially if their issue was under more sever conditions(would they really waste more money after purchasing it new?). And not only that I'm not exactly rich here, having something that barely counts as a job doesn't really add much in the money department. And I'm sure it isn't for many, that is why bought it used to begin with. Even if Bethesda were to make that ID key selling method. It still wouldn't rebuild trust with the company. Not everyone can buy games willy nillie. Many, like me, have a very small amount of money and very rarely have it in large sums. Something like this would surly ruin their trust and the key thing will only be seen as a cash grab, like the above user stated.
  2. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough on why exactly I started this thread. I kind of did the beginning off the top of my head. This issue didn't concern me for quite some time because It honestly slipped my mind. It popped back up in my head when I was leafing through my purchased games list on steam. It was an idle thought wondering why Fallout 3 GOTY edition was entirely online for digital download yet was available as a physical copy. Skyrim had the same thing, I just got lucky with Fallout because I bought the game through steam which is guaranteed to come with a new unused key. But I got Skyrim used on a physical disk and well was forced to pirate the updates to the thing, and am unable to get any future DLC. And that's when the guilt started. What added to the guilt about this was the large number of people being banned for even mentioning they had a pirated copy. (Thumbing through the archive is something I do with forums I'm about to post on). And in conjunction with the VERY large number of people with bought copies forced to pirate because they can't play it, made me think further. In fact there is a youtube video that even has a download link to a program that allows you to download without steam(Razor or something). All mods work on my game (Even steam recognizes it :psyduck: allowing me to chat, though it doesn't show in the list of owned games). I pirated the game because I bought it with MY own money for the very first time, online another first, and delivered straight to my door again first for me. I was very upset to discover I couldn't play it and well you know the rest. Afterwords I bought a whole mess of games online via steam. So no I did not start this thread because I couldn't use mods.
  3. That indeed would be most helpful. And make me far less guilt ridden about this. And in fact what you suggested earlier has been used a lot. Particularly with MMOs and most experienced PC exclusive companies. But the high speed internet thing, might be only part of it. Releasing on multiple consoles might have caused some sloppiness in how they release their games to the public. It didn't help with the Anti-Pirate craze going around. If they where going to release physical copies but only update online they should have made the ID keys just as available as the physical disk. They really should have understood that it will be resold and that simply stating it in their TERMS OF USE licensing agreement will not discourage this. Particularly if it includes something so widespread as reselling games. Not even companies fully obey this kind of thing. And cracking down will only start a fire and encourage pirating (more out of spite than anything else). Know that I think about it the high speed thing is redundant know that they released more stuff online, and only update online know. Those physical copies will eventually openly harm the overall revenue their product could gain. Future DLC will lock out anyone who was unlucky enough to discover this issue. And if they wanted to sell more they would have to make new copies for each new key they make if they kept this up. This will quickly snowball out of hand (It probably already has). :ohdear:
  4. Thank you all for understanding. But this forces a new question. Why would Bethesda even bother to make physical copies of the game if it's only designed to be used ONCE? And obviously Amazon didn't care as there was well over 20+ used copies in circulation last I bought it (8-9 months after the initial release if I remember). I just don't understand that part. If they release a physical copy it is far out of their control, it will eventually be resold to another unlucky sap(such as myself) naively thinking all they have to do is pop it in update and play. They will obviously get pissed if they realized they can't play it and pirate it. And then DLC comes out as a digital copy/patch only ....
  5. I like this idea. I was sold the moment you mentioned a system that supports completed stories. That is one of the most infuriating thing about most other fanfic sites (I'm looking at you FF.net). Too many good interesting stories cut short, abandoned, and never continued. It happened so often that I stopped reading fanfictions in general fearing that it'll happen again. So I really hope this gets off the ground.
  6. I had this question in my head for a while. It didn't bother me much at first. But then I began seeing a bunch of mod authors start talking about how their mods won't work on pirated copies of Skyrim. I just wanted to know. Is it pirating to have got the game used? I bought this used from amazon for $40. This may sound dumb but the issue really stems from the fact it always tries to install through steam (Even though I have the physical copy). And that causes issues obviously, I have bought countless games through steam, this is the first one to have a physical copy and use steam. It wouldn't let me install it because the key was already used(Duh). This forced me to go online and find a way to NOT install with steam. After that and I finally installed it I couldn't run it (Turns out the disk only possessed key components not updated online such as the skrimlauncher.exe) And was forced to go online and get the latest patch via torrent. I did some further research and realized I wasn't the only one, many others where forced to do this (Even people who bought it brand new). This may seem stupid to post here about it but I really wanted to know. If the response is a ban then that's appropriate.
  7. One thing I don't understand is if you type in a certain characters name (I.E Lydia) it gives you the wrong ID. I discovered this after I tried countless times to find (and bring back) Lydia. Tried to correct a glitch where she wouldn't appear for some reason. Might be doing something wrong. So what exactly causes this?
  8. I honestly hope this grows into something similar to Nehrim or at least Moonpath to Elsewhere. I personally don't see the value in simply playing as a certain anthropomorphic creature and it NOT have some impact on the game. Usually by not simply adding a new race that plays like a the other races but making it feel like you're playing something different, something that stands out but isn't overpowering or cumbersome. I care more about gameplay than visual aesthetics (though I consider it a good bonus). If someone where to do something similar to the above stated I would support wholeheartedly. But until then .
  9. i agree with everything except the possibillity to throw a potion... Well when I said "throw" potions I meant give it to them mid,or out of, combat. In fact I got the idea from that Dev-jam video from Bethesda. They are (hopefully), planning on incorporating followers to use potions on not only themselves(and you) but allies as well. (How they can get a potion from one to another and instantly drink it is another issue entirely). But if that is too much simply having followers that can recognize and USE scrolls/potions/poisons reasonably based on the items properties would be wonderful!
  10. You have a strong point there. Especially if you're using the vanilla follower system. The only reason I was able to get through it was with specialized followers, several overhauls (mainly to magic and smithing), and a follower over haul(Amazing follower tweaks and Extensive follower Framework was perfect for this kind of run). Unfortunately non of the mods could coherently support a true team play experience. The only mod that consciously supported that ideal was a follower with very sophisticated AI. (can't remember the name for the life of me). So yeah that sucked with or without mods.
  11. I would most definitely love to have a mod that adds more team oriented spells. Such as a mid-level grand healing/heal other spell. Casting mage armors onto partners, AOF illusion buffs/debuffs. And a perk that makes your spells unable to harm/debuff friendly NPCs. And unable to heal/buff enemies. And have better potion use, tossing potions to allies for a quick heal and vice versa. And also to improve AI (both friendly and enemy) to account for this. -if possible Hopefully if I keep yapping about this SOMEONE will pick up on this attempt at having followers not suck. :hurr: (Try having a follower only run, it's an utter nightmare even on easy)
  12. Thanks for the help. And I kind of found a cheat mod for it. It changes the days date and time to the english(Or other language equivalent). I can't remember exactly if it used standard time or military time though. Anyway I'll be using that mod and a timer to find out how many hours. Again I pose the question would you do a "Team supporter" kind of roleplay? Leveling only your support skills and manage a team from afar, while your partners handle heavy combat. It was hair pulling for me near the end game. Would you consider it a worthy challenge?
  13. Sorry if the title is confusing. Really have no proper way of phrasing this. How many in-game time would it take to complete the main quest? The game doesn't rush you to complete the games quests but I'm pretty sure the story half of this issue don't have such a luxury. Could someone give an approximation of the number of in-game number of day/months/years it would take for the heroes to complete the main quest line? (As an added thankyou could include the Dawnguard in the situation). The conditions that modify this are: You only do quests directly related to the main one, in assumption the hero has no prior knowledge of the future (Such as the golden claw, the college of winterhold opening, the thieves guild etc). Never fasts travels anywhere (uses carriages to all required holds), and few rests are made. I'm trying to do research for a simple fanfiction, nothing too spectacular. I just wanted to make time skips reasonable. In addition I also did a run through/roleplay of the main quest with 4 followers. (Lydia, Derkeethus, Erandur, and Golldir) Requirements being I cannot fight very well on my own only buffs, healing, and other support style things are used extensively(Smithing, alchemy, enchanting, restoration, alteration, and illusion). Meaning I rarely level any of my offense. But I have to manage my followers as best I can. And by Jesus was it hard! I had to reload several times, in order to get even one thing right. Managing several idiots at once on easy mode was just as hard as a solo runs at max difficulty. Their AI was atrocious and the lack of balancing for group play is very apparent (No mid level heal other/grand healing, no casting mage armor for others, no potion tossing for quick help). I had to stop myself from jumping into the fray and doing it myself several times. But it gave me some much needed perspective on the character I am trying to make. Would you try this "Follower dependent" run?
  14. Why is it that every time furries and "normal people" interact everyone looses their s***. This here is an issue of personal tastes. What we value as people affect what we want or expect out of something. In effect what we want out of entertainment in general. An opinion is only fact if everyone else agrees with you (and even then it's just a popular/general opinion). Please people it actually matters if it is lore friendly or not is because there are people out there (like me) who want more beast races AND want it to fit into lore. You can make a mod that adds something based on something else (Yes even anime) and still make it lore friendly. You just have to waste a little more time on your mod to add that CONTENT in. Yes whether or not your mod is lore friendly is part of the content because you had to take the time to do research and adjust your ideas accordingly balancing fun, lore, and artistic integrity (ie your idea as intact as possible) to make it as enjoyable for all as possible. And Bethesda kinda knew this as well. In order to add something they had to make a world open enough for a wide number of things to be made without it getting ridiculous. Things change, entire civilizations, continents, and ecosystems can vanish in less than 50 years under the right conditions. Who says magic can't do the same thing, science has changed over 100s of 1,000s of years new ideas/fields of study/theories are made, improved, dis-proven, made into laws, rearranged, lost, and found. This is fundamental to how history works, and with any kind creative thinking can be applied no matter how crazy it sounds. Ramblings aside you have an opinion and you decide to share it. Be civil, be on topic, and always remember. Your opinions can and WILL be criticized by another opinion (or worse crushed under the iron might of the logic/fact hammer). And if you don't like it don't post it. SIDENOTE- I'm going to throw my opinion out here. Play everything ever whether you like it or not. If you've never tried it you have no business even having an opinion on it in the first place. Also if you value lore friendlyness you probably value roleplay or improving the vanilla experience as much as possible, if you value anything else but the previous you probably value gameplay, variety, and improve over all fun factor the game can achieve.
  15. Previously before patch 1.7, I managed to eliminate my stuttering with no real major INI tweaks. Heck it ran flawlessly with several HD mods in place(Flora over hall, homogenous landscapes, better cities, SMIM). Know after this patch I can't play it worth crap after only a couple minuets before it starts stuttering, and it stabilizes when I tell it to specifically run with one out of 4 cores. I don't get it? Know people are saying I don't have enough ram to run it yet previously I could play it just fine. Each patch just makes this game harder to play.
