  1. Well I'm glad this was all cleared up. And thanks again for understanding and answering my questions. I'm not guilty(not as much anyway) anymore. But know I'm worried if this may come back to haunt Bethesda in the future. I mean I will most definitely not be purchasing used PC games without more careful research(As I made a similar mistake with buying Fallout 3, Windows 7 makes it unplayable levels of unstable). But what about others? I'm sure they are far less willing to cut Bethesda some slack. Especially if their issue was under more sever conditions(would they really waste more money after purchasing it new?). And not only that I'm not exactly rich here, having something that barely counts as a job doesn't really add much in the money department. And I'm sure it isn't for many, that is why bought it used to begin with. Even if Bethesda were to make that ID key selling method. It still wouldn't rebuild trust with the company. Not everyone can buy games willy nillie. Many, like me, have a very small amount of money and very rarely have it in large sums. Something like this would surly ruin their trust and the key thing will only be seen as a cash grab, like the above user stated.
  2. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough on why exactly I started this thread. I kind of did the beginning off the top of my head. This issue didn't concern me for quite some time because It honestly slipped my mind. It popped back up in my head when I was leafing through my purchased games list on steam. It was an idle thought wondering why Fallout 3 GOTY edition was entirely online for digital download yet was available as a physical copy. Skyrim had the same thing, I just got lucky with Fallout because I bought the game through steam which is guaranteed to come with a new unused key. But I got Skyrim used on a physical disk and well was forced to pirate the updates to the thing, and am unable to get any future DLC. And that's when the guilt started. What added to the guilt about this was the large number of people being banned for even mentioning they had a pirated copy. (Thumbing through the archive is something I do with forums I'm about to post on). And in conjunction with the VERY large number of people with bought copies forced to pirate because they can't play it, made me think further. In fact there is a youtube video that even has a download link to a program that allows you to download without steam(Razor or something). All mods work on my game (Even steam recognizes it :psyduck: allowing me to chat, though it doesn't show in the list of owned games). I pirated the game because I bought it with MY own money for the very first time, online another first, and delivered straight to my door again first for me. I was very upset to discover I couldn't play it and well you know the rest. Afterwords I bought a whole mess of games online via steam. So no I did not start this thread because I couldn't use mods.
  3. That indeed would be most helpful. And make me far less guilt ridden about this. And in fact what you suggested earlier has been used a lot. Particularly with MMOs and most experienced PC exclusive companies. But the high speed internet thing, might be only part of it. Releasing on multiple consoles might have caused some sloppiness in how they release their games to the public. It didn't help with the Anti-Pirate craze going around. If they where going to release physical copies but only update online they should have made the ID keys just as available as the physical disk. They really should have understood that it will be resold and that simply stating it in their TERMS OF USE licensing agreement will not discourage this. Particularly if it includes something so widespread as reselling games. Not even companies fully obey this kind of thing. And cracking down will only start a fire and encourage pirating (more out of spite than anything else). Know that I think about it the high speed thing is redundant know that they released more stuff online, and only update online know. Those physical copies will eventually openly harm the overall revenue their product could gain. Future DLC will lock out anyone who was unlucky enough to discover this issue. And if they wanted to sell more they would have to make new copies for each new key they make if they kept this up. This will quickly snowball out of hand (It probably already has). :ohdear:
  4. Thank you all for understanding. But this forces a new question. Why would Bethesda even bother to make physical copies of the game if it's only designed to be used ONCE? And obviously Amazon didn't care as there was well over 20+ used copies in circulation last I bought it (8-9 months after the initial release if I remember). I just don't understand that part. If they release a physical copy it is far out of their control, it will eventually be resold to another unlucky sap(such as myself) naively thinking all they have to do is pop it in update and play. They will obviously get pissed if they realized they can't play it and pirate it. And then DLC comes out as a digital copy/patch only ....
  5. I like this idea. I was sold the moment you mentioned a system that supports completed stories. That is one of the most infuriating thing about most other fanfic sites (I'm looking at you FF.net). Too many good interesting stories cut short, abandoned, and never continued. It happened so often that I stopped reading fanfictions in general fearing that it'll happen again. So I really hope this gets off the ground.
  6. I had this question in my head for a while. It didn't bother me much at first. But then I began seeing a bunch of mod authors start talking about how their mods won't work on pirated copies of Skyrim. I just wanted to know. Is it pirating to have got the game used? I bought this used from amazon for $40. This may sound dumb but the issue really stems from the fact it always tries to install through steam (Even though I have the physical copy). And that causes issues obviously, I have bought countless games through steam, this is the first one to have a physical copy and use steam. It wouldn't let me install it because the key was already used(Duh). This forced me to go online and find a way to NOT install with steam. After that and I finally installed it I couldn't run it (Turns out the disk only possessed key components not updated online such as the skrimlauncher.exe) And was forced to go online and get the latest patch via torrent. I did some further research and realized I wasn't the only one, many others where forced to do this (Even people who bought it brand new). This may seem stupid to post here about it but I really wanted to know. If the response is a ban then that's appropriate.
  7. One thing I don't understand is if you type in a certain characters name (I.E Lydia) it gives you the wrong ID. I discovered this after I tried countless times to find (and bring back) Lydia. Tried to correct a glitch where she wouldn't appear for some reason. Might be doing something wrong. So what exactly causes this?
  8. I honestly hope this grows into something similar to Nehrim or at least Moonpath to Elsewhere. I personally don't see the value in simply playing as a certain anthropomorphic creature and it NOT have some impact on the game. Usually by not simply adding a new race that plays like a the other races but making it feel like you're playing something different, something that stands out but isn't overpowering or cumbersome. I care more about gameplay than visual aesthetics (though I consider it a good bonus). If someone where to do something similar to the above stated I would support wholeheartedly. But until then .
  9. i agree with everything except the possibillity to throw a potion... Well when I said "throw" potions I meant give it to them mid,or out of, combat. In fact I got the idea from that Dev-jam video from Bethesda. They are (hopefully), planning on incorporating followers to use potions on not only themselves(and you) but allies as well. (How they can get a potion from one to another and instantly drink it is another issue entirely). But if that is too much simply having followers that can recognize and USE scrolls/potions/poisons reasonably based on the items properties would be wonderful!
  10. You have a strong point there. Especially if you're using the vanilla follower system. The only reason I was able to get through it was with specialized followers, several overhauls (mainly to magic and smithing), and a follower over haul(Amazing follower tweaks and Extensive follower Framework was perfect for this kind of run). Unfortunately non of the mods could coherently support a true team play experience. The only mod that consciously supported that ideal was a follower with very sophisticated AI. (can't remember the name for the life of me). So yeah that sucked with or without mods.
  11. I would most definitely love to have a mod that adds more team oriented spells. Such as a mid-level grand healing/heal other spell. Casting mage armors onto partners, AOF illusion buffs/debuffs. And a perk that makes your spells unable to harm/debuff friendly NPCs. And unable to heal/buff enemies. And have better potion use, tossing potions to allies for a quick heal and vice versa. And also to improve AI (both friendly and enemy) to account for this. -if possible Hopefully if I keep yapping about this SOMEONE will pick up on this attempt at having followers not suck. :hurr: (Try having a follower only run, it's an utter nightmare even on easy)
  12. Thanks for the help. And I kind of found a cheat mod for it. It changes the days date and time to the english(Or other language equivalent). I can't remember exactly if it used standard time or military time though. Anyway I'll be using that mod and a timer to find out how many hours. Again I pose the question would you do a "Team supporter" kind of roleplay? Leveling only your support skills and manage a team from afar, while your partners handle heavy combat. It was hair pulling for me near the end game. Would you consider it a worthy challenge?
  13. Sorry if the title is confusing. Really have no proper way of phrasing this. How many in-game time would it take to complete the main quest? The game doesn't rush you to complete the games quests but I'm pretty sure the story half of this issue don't have such a luxury. Could someone give an approximation of the number of in-game number of day/months/years it would take for the heroes to complete the main quest line? (As an added thankyou could include the Dawnguard in the situation). The conditions that modify this are: You only do quests directly related to the main one, in assumption the hero has no prior knowledge of the future (Such as the golden claw, the college of winterhold opening, the thieves guild etc). Never fasts travels anywhere (uses carriages to all required holds), and few rests are made. I'm trying to do research for a simple fanfiction, nothing too spectacular. I just wanted to make time skips reasonable. In addition I also did a run through/roleplay of the main quest with 4 followers. (Lydia, Derkeethus, Erandur, and Golldir) Requirements being I cannot fight very well on my own only buffs, healing, and other support style things are used extensively(Smithing, alchemy, enchanting, restoration, alteration, and illusion). Meaning I rarely level any of my offense. But I have to manage my followers as best I can. And by Jesus was it hard! I had to reload several times, in order to get even one thing right. Managing several idiots at once on easy mode was just as hard as a solo runs at max difficulty. Their AI was atrocious and the lack of balancing for group play is very apparent (No mid level heal other/grand healing, no casting mage armor for others, no potion tossing for quick help). I had to stop myself from jumping into the fray and doing it myself several times. But it gave me some much needed perspective on the character I am trying to make. Would you try this "Follower dependent" run?
  14. Why is it that every time furries and "normal people" interact everyone looses their s***. This here is an issue of personal tastes. What we value as people affect what we want or expect out of something. In effect what we want out of entertainment in general. An opinion is only fact if everyone else agrees with you (and even then it's just a popular/general opinion). Please people it actually matters if it is lore friendly or not is because there are people out there (like me) who want more beast races AND want it to fit into lore. You can make a mod that adds something based on something else (Yes even anime) and still make it lore friendly. You just have to waste a little more time on your mod to add that CONTENT in. Yes whether or not your mod is lore friendly is part of the content because you had to take the time to do research and adjust your ideas accordingly balancing fun, lore, and artistic integrity (ie your idea as intact as possible) to make it as enjoyable for all as possible. And Bethesda kinda knew this as well. In order to add something they had to make a world open enough for a wide number of things to be made without it getting ridiculous. Things change, entire civilizations, continents, and ecosystems can vanish in less than 50 years under the right conditions. Who says magic can't do the same thing, science has changed over 100s of 1,000s of years new ideas/fields of study/theories are made, improved, dis-proven, made into laws, rearranged, lost, and found. This is fundamental to how history works, and with any kind creative thinking can be applied no matter how crazy it sounds. Ramblings aside you have an opinion and you decide to share it. Be civil, be on topic, and always remember. Your opinions can and WILL be criticized by another opinion (or worse crushed under the iron might of the logic/fact hammer). And if you don't like it don't post it. SIDENOTE- I'm going to throw my opinion out here. Play everything ever whether you like it or not. If you've never tried it you have no business even having an opinion on it in the first place. Also if you value lore friendlyness you probably value roleplay or improving the vanilla experience as much as possible, if you value anything else but the previous you probably value gameplay, variety, and improve over all fun factor the game can achieve.
  15. Previously before patch 1.7, I managed to eliminate my stuttering with no real major INI tweaks. Heck it ran flawlessly with several HD mods in place(Flora over hall, homogenous landscapes, better cities, SMIM). Know after this patch I can't play it worth crap after only a couple minuets before it starts stuttering, and it stabilizes when I tell it to specifically run with one out of 4 cores. I don't get it? Know people are saying I don't have enough ram to run it yet previously I could play it just fine. Each patch just makes this game harder to play.
  16. I think the feature would be more helpful if this additional tree came with a complementary lock on system. And all the other trees where changed to reflect it. For example investing in this tree and archery would extend the lock on reach and allow for faster reload times. And improve power attack speeds, and allows for other skills like dodging out of power attack animations. I don't know just something to make the agility tree work the other trees or something. Also is there a limit to how much this boosts your movement ability. Will it also lower consumption of stamina overall (Sprinting, power attaching, direct stamina damage)? Would be cool if this mitigates magic consumption by siphoning the drainage to stamina as well cutting overall usage.Or something. Will it include counter attacks from timed blocks? Or from dodging? How well will this play with the other skill trees? The above were only suggestions, but could you go into more detail in how this might work?
  17. Ok I followed your advice ANd the stuttering is mostly gone. Not as sever and easier on my system. thanks. Unfortunately know I'm getting a bad framerate drop in interiors. No idea why I disabled anything that had to do with interior lighting. What's going on?
  18. OH you want to know how I did it? Well to do so you have to have task manager open. Run the game and quickly alt tab to task manager. Go to processes find the .EXE then left click go down to "Set Affinity ..." and an extra window pops up. This will allow you to set the number of processors to a specific running program. However you MAY get a permission denied thing if you do it while the game is playing AKA in the game world. You have to do it while it is at the title screen in order for it to work.
  19. Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120503-2030) Video card: Intel HD Graphics 3000m 2gb dynamic Video Memory 1.76gb available System Model: Aspire 5750-6842 Default Resolution: 1366x768 BIOS: InsydeH2O Version V1.19 Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz overclocks to 3.0 Memory: 4096MB RAM DDR3 Available OS Memory: 3948MB RAM Page File: 2320MB used, 5572MB available DirectX Version: DirectX 11 This issue has plagued me for well over a year. Some say it's due to lack of ram. Others say that it's my graphics card. No solutions work the stuttering happens EVEN ON LOWEST VANILLA SETTINGS. I can't figure out why, some people are playing with lower specks than mine yet have fine no stuttering whatsoever. What the heck! I tried a whole slue of things to fix it. Fps boosting, uGrids, Background clock control, overclocking gpu, lowering resolution on small objects, lowered settings, limit fps, force vsync, turn off vsync, enable/disable/change vertex processing. I posted a similar topic a couple of days ago. And I thought I solved it. But then I load up ONE ENB. And it started again and it won't stop even after I removed ENB. The FPS itself is fine 50-40 inside, 30-20 outside. But when I do one of the following: open up a menu more than once, transfer between cells multiple times, stand still for more than 3 minuets then start moving. It lags to 9-15 frames insside or out. Then jumps back up. Sometimes for a split second causing jerkiness in movement. Interestingly It has a slightly less annoying time on ONE Processor. While everything else runs with the other 3. I get a solid 30-20(Inside or out) on medium-low settings. No stuttering whatsoever. What is going on?
  20. I would love to have the power to better heal and protect others. To be able to save them from various poisons and diseases, fortify them against magic, fortify them against physical attacks, heal them with potions transferred from my inventory. And to have my followers do the same thing. The power to have AI do the same thing in return. To have magic that differentiate between friend and foe. I want more team friendly spells for the respective schools: Illusion, Alteration, and Restoration. These fields of magic need to have more support for well support spells and also should have more perks devoted to them. Speaking of follower support… How come the system doesn’t allow followers to hurt others but not you? Yet you can completely murderize your followers entirely by accident. I have a very hard time fighting in close quarters without accidently harming friendly NPCs. Heck even they shoot runes and magic right through me without consequences but I can’t?
  21. You make a good point. Still... You've never finished Oblivion? Not even Shivering Isles? Not even a guild? That's a little hard to believe. Oblivion's main quest sucked me in three times over the course of several play throughs, and I can't even imagine the game without at least wondering what's behind that weird door. Yes seriously, thought hard to believe, I have not joined a guild, heck I didn't even know that the game had followers, or marriage. Until I played Skyrim and went back and played it in full. And I also went and downloaded all the extra stuff (That my pc could handle of course). And I would say that I had to force myself past a lot of parts in the game. It was a nice game, heck I'm even jealous of all the cool utility spells, the fame/infamy feature, and expansive character customization options. But it did little to motivate me to do things, the base designs SUCK hard, even with all those improvements it did little to halt the fact that kajits looked like they got their face run with a steam roller. But in all fairness the ONLY reason Oblivion is vastly superior is because of the sheer number of complete overhauls, bug fixes, and features added thanks to the modding community and Bethesda. That is why I think the game needs time, It needs time to grow and develop, and maybe then I'll accept the number of complaints lauded against it.
  22. As much as I think oblivion is a technically better game. And as much as I agree with a lot of the points said here. I'm going to say this I never truely enjoyed the elder scrolls series until Skyrim came along. The games always looked off, the animations, the visuals, the models, the voice acting, the lore, the gameplay all looked off to me to some degree. And I never completed any of their main quests. I never even put more 50 hours into those games. They sounded like awsome games but I personally never really CARED about any of it. And then skyrim came along, and suddenly I wanted to play it. And when I finally got the game. I played till the very end of the main quest no breaks and logged well over 200 hours into the game. Most of it spent running around the place. I love this game and it motivated me to go and beat the others to. And I did not nearly enjoy those games as much as I did this one. This game the series a much needed entry point into the series. It has much more accessible lore, magic, and combat. And though the game feels basic it had a much more defined structure easier to see and in essence much better looking. I felt more motivated to do something because the game didn't ease it's hold after the beginning. It gave a sense of urgency that no elder scrolls have since captured. It may feel like railroading but in many real life situations in times of crisis you would not really have time to do everything ever and you certainly wouldn't have much of a choice in how things went. Sometimes having freedom from the get go can be boring. Having to motivate yourself to start the main quest line it should be the other way around. And that is why I never really cared for oblivion or morrowind in terms of being a game worth playing for extended periods. Skyrim showed me what the elder scrolls can bring. A bright shining world ripe with places to see, people to meet, and monsters to destroy. A game that forces you into its lore then letting you go to do as you please. And that is why I can never really play oblivion anymore. But don't take me for a hypocrite I'm quite envious of the hand to hand, and allowing my character to have a history before things started. And a number of other things. But a lot of the things I did not enjoy about oblivion or morrowind was addressed in this game. And that is more than enough for me.
  23. ISSUE FIXED. No more stuttering!!!!          YESYESYES!!! Finally got it fixed it runs a decent 30-40 in open areas and 50-60 in closed ones. Know all I need to do is regulate framerate. I solved it by making my ENTIRE computer run on one core. Then set it to two and restarted. Know the the game runs smooth as silk. No stuttering when I change cells. Or even raise FOV. No more stuttering. No idea how changing the number of total cores in use fixed everything but whatever. Thanks for the support guys I'm going to play/test skyrim for the next 10+ hours and see if the problem is really gone.
  24. OK. First off the option was unavailable in the bios. Did a little googleing and found the msconfig method. Surprisingly it worked the game isn't spassing as much. The stuttering still percists in large areas but that I can live with. Funny thing is I'm getting a steady 30 - 20 fps in large areas no matter what setting or load distance I set it on all sliders could be maxed and the frame rate neither goes up or down. Another thing load times suddenly skyrocket and sometimes loads very quickly even if I go through the same set of 3 doors (That go in a circle BTW large, medium, small). I'm going to have to mess with my settings AGAIN just to figure out the setup that worked for my last complete run through of the main quest. :wallbash: Also still haven't solved the bright as day even at night buildings issue with my ENB settings. I might consider moving to a different preset. Reimagined ENB may not work for me. Edit: I also seemed to have noticed that limiting to one or two cores reduced Windows.exes vram usage from 131,000kb to 30,000kb. Awsome. But it also distableized core usage :pinch: skyrim STILL uses all 4 cores though with much more even consistency(Even when I told it to use one core :psyduck: ). I also disabled threading in all my features using skyconfig. Reduced stuttering severity somewhat.
  25. Oh don't get me wrong I totally agree with you. The game is great but deeply flawed, riddled with poor decisions and lazy absentminded programming. A huge let down from the previous game. Shame too, design wise it is the best looking, the design for each race is actually decent none of them looking laughably bad. The animations are smooth and well done. Physics precise and more realistic. Best design, Better balance between numbers and player coordination, Best physics engine, Better overall dungeon design. Basically it's the prettiest and easiest of the series. It is much easier to get into the world of skyrim than the others both gameplay and roleplay wise. Love it to death though. Edit: But I also can't help but feel they are relying a little too much on the modding community to fix all their apparent screw ups. All these very obvious flaws that even someone with no knowledge in game design would at least consider fixing. Why?
