  1. A helpful tip for finding out which .esps are missing from your save. Mod Organizer has a "saves" tab directly above the right pane where your load order is displayed. A window will pop up when you hover your mouse cursor over a particular save showing which .esps are missing. Wrye Bash (or whatever iteration we are on for Fallout 4) has a similar feature.
  2. It probably won't help with the ctds but you don't need the Homemaker - Unlocked Institute Objects.esp. The Homemaker - Unlocked Institute Objects SKE.esp is supposed to replace it.
  3. There is no automated program that can sort a load order perfectly. LOOT does a decent job, but will always have exceptions that have to be addressed manually. Mod Organizer is a mod management program (my favorite!). It does not sort your load order for you - you will either need to do it yourself or run LOOT's executable through it to sort your plugins. I like to run LOOT once after installing a large number of mods. I then hand sort certain plugins that are placed incorrectly per the mod author's instructions and also move mods that I want to overwrite other mods when conflicts occur.
  4. I think you probably had the "src" folder (which you don't need) already installed in your Fallout 4 folder from your previous install of F4SE. When you went to update to the latest version, you probably copied the "src" folder along with the other F4SE files which overwrote the original "src" folder. There are 215 files in the latest F4SE "src" folder. You can delete the "src" folder and all of it's contents - it is only useful to mod authors who need to use the script extender functions for their mods.
  5. 1. The Townies or The Southies 2. Boss named "Whitey Costello" (middle aged male with platinum blonde hair - Based on real life criminal James 'Whitey' Bulger). Townie rat - lowest rank. Townie dog - middle rank. Townie son/daughter - leader rank. 3. Shirt/Jeans outfits and track suits for the Townie rats. Suspenders and slacks for the middling ranks. Armored suits for the higher ranking bosses. 4. Brass knuckles, baseball bats, and Molotov cocktails for the Townie rats. Hand guns and shotguns for the Townie dogs. Sub-machine guns for the Townie sons/daughters. A cool, unique, silenced handgun for the boss(es). 5. Roxbury Station, Shaw High School, and other places around the south and east areas of the Boston city area. 6. My idea is based on various stereotypes that surround the some of the roughest citizens/criminals of Boston portrayed in movies like: "The Departed", "Black Mass", and "The Town". The gang could specialize in the production/selling of "Whitey's Whiskey", a horribly toxic and addictive concoction that would barely even be classified as moonshine. A short quest could be to stop the production of "Whitey's Whiskey" in any way possible. It has contributed to several deaths (including children) in the Commonwealth.
  6. Crash Fixes does indeed claim to fix the string count - it is listed towards the bottom of the read me. Here's the specific description: ; Info: If your scripts use more than 65535 different strings then the save game will be corrupt and not possible to load. ; This fixes it by changing the save file format slightly if string count is higher than 65520. That means if you ; have this option enabled and your save game would have become corrupt it changes format instead and vanilla game ; or save game tools will not be able to open it! Opposite is true as well, if the count goes below 65520 after ; and you save again then the format reverts to vanilla. ; TLDR: Fix for https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3924850-corrupt-saves-strcount-0xffff-ctd-on-load/ ; Address: Around 30 different parts of code had to be patched. StringCount32=1
  7. I've spent quite a bit of time trying to find the best re-textures and cosmetic mods for my game. I have two 1440p monitors (I only play with one) and I know that the higher resolution greatly improves the way EVERYTHING looks (even vanilla). I'm pretty sure that those "Ultimate Skyrim Graphics Mods" people are also playing at higher resolutions or are "downsampling" from a higher than 1080p resolution. I've been playing around with this technique for my screenshots (downsampling from 8k and 4k). Heres's a list of a few of my favorite graphics mods in case you weren't aware these mods/mod authors: CaBaL120 has re-textured almost all of the vanilla armors (they are awesome) and has many really great landscape/building retextures (his retex of Whiterun is the best I've seen so far): http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/users/571605/?tb=mods Gamwich has some of the best clutter and clothing re-textures EVER: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/users/5712421/?tb=mods&pUp=1 Hein84 is a master landscape retexturer: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49344/? INSS has a guide for tweaking shadows: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/7638/? I think that the best Male skin retextures are by fadingsignal: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/58443/? I am flipping back and forth between the Milkdrinker and Graphene textures for females. They are not available on the Nexus - you'll have to search for them if you are interested. I am also using the "Citrus Head" mesh by blabba. This is a high-poly mesh which results in a much less blocky and much smoother head/face for your player character. I always play a Breton and the vanilla head meshes result in really ugly and lumpy looking characters. Here's the link: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/58989/? Enhanced Landscapes (with the Grasses and Oaks plugins) with Skyrim Flora Overhaul 2.3 makes for an amazingly lush looking Skyrim. I have the grasses set to max in my Skyrim.ini file. You'll need a really beefy computer to handle the max grass settings with enb. Also, you DO NOT HAVE TO USE DYNDOLOD for the mod to work - you can ignore this requirement if you choose not to use DynDoLOD. Link to Enhanced Landscapes: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68782/? Climates of Tamriel 5.1: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/17802/? Some of my favorite enbs are: Project ENB (updated to ENB v292), Seasons of Skyrim, Kountervibe ENB Northern Light, K ENB Pure Light, Serenity ENB v12.5 (updated to ENB v292), and any of the Grim and Somber series by Wolfgrimdark. I hope some of this helps. Good luck.
  8. I have SLI running quite nicely with any ENB I decide to try out. How up to date are your drivers? Do you have nVidia Inspector running? If not, then you need to download/install nVidia Inspector. It is a more detailed version of the nVidia Control Panel which allows you to see all of the settings available for customization. There is a profile for Skyrim (Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim) and there you will find options for SLI. I am using the "SLI_PREDEFINED_MODE_FORCE_AFR2" setting. I believe there are some instructions floating around the STEP website regarding SLI setups. There are also several posts on the Nexus forums describing what people are doing with the SLI settings for Skyrim - try searching "SLI".
  9. Whew! I thought it was my internet service acting up again. I cannot download any mods manually (I never use the download with manager option). Every time I attempt to download a file, the download appears like it's working only to then have the page redirected to the main nexus homepage: http://www.nexusmods.com/games/? It appears to be a problem with the Washington Premium download server. I switched over to the Dallas Premium server and was able to download files.
  10. Hi. Are you still running the game on Windows Vista? I, too, used to play Oblivion and Fallout 3 on Windows Vista Ultimate edition and now have them running on Windows 7 Ultimate Edition. I noticed it helps if I run the game and all executables (oblivion.exe, obse, oblivion mod manager, enbhost.exe, etc) as Administrator. As a rule, I always run my older games in Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode - specifically the Oblivion.exe and OblivionLauncher.exe executables. I actually can't even launch a cleanly installed Oblivion without changing the compatibility mode to XP. Do you have the 4gb patch enabled for Oblivion? Found here: http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php I'm assuming your operating system is 64 bit. This patch really helped squeeze a little more juice out of the game engine for me. Something else that may help is Oblivion Stutter Remover. Found here: http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/23208/? You may already be using this - obviously it wouldn't show in your load order because it is a Oblivion Script Extender plugin. Good luck.
  11. @EpitomyofShyness That is what I'm trying to do. I've just started the Wyrmstooth questline and will report any growth to my string count when finished with it. I'm curious to see if actual interaction with the mod added content will cause the count to grow faster than my usual 17 strings per level.
  12. @Garfink Yeah, I couldn't imagine modding without MO. I won't even attempt to mod Fallout 4 until a stable release of the 64 bit Mod Organizer version is released.
  13. @Garfink Do you run with Mod Organizer? If so, you can actually check which house mods use scripts. There are little icons (content column on the left pane of Mod Organizer) for the types of files each mod has. I believe that your BSAs have to be extracted in order for this to display properly. The papyrus script icon looks like a screwdriver and wrench crossing each other. Some house mods have very few scripts - they are usually just the the vanilla bookshelf and weapon rack scripts. I've got Elinora's "Beginner's Shack" and "Breezehome TNF- Eli's Flavour" installed and can confirm that they generate very little in the way of strings.
  14. Ok. Here's my load order. It is a modified version of STEP Extended/SRLE/REGS. I have over 100 mods merged. I've tried to replace several of the mods recommended by those lists with mods that have fewer/none scripts. Level 2 (Riverwood) = 39992 strings Level 10 (Whiterun) = 40279 Level 13 = 40346 Level 18 = 40371 Level 21 = 40386 Level 24 = 40411 Level 26 = 40409 Level 28 = 40447 (at this point I am the Thane of Whiterun, have retrieved the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller, killed 6 dragons, explored 3 mod added dungeons, and completed 3 bounties) I hope this helps somebody.
  15. Wow. Fantastic summary! Something tells me, once the Creation Kit is released, that we will find unfinished quests, dialogue options, missing npcs, etc. that were left out of the original game due to time constraints/laziness/whatever. Maybe someone can put together a "Cutting Room Floor" mod for Fallout 4. I really hope there are bits that would allow for even just one your "missed opportunities" to be fleshed out into a quest mod.
  16. I noticed that your "ReservedMemorySizeMB=128" is set to a rather low number. Try setting it to 512 or 768. I have mine set to 1024 - I have a lot of graphics enhancing mods. Also, make sure that the FPS limiter is turned off in game (check the GUI by hitting shift/enter). I've had it mysteriously turn on before. :)
  17. I totally agree! It would really suck. I am doing my best to figure out how to prevent it from happening to me. :) It's good to know that there is a point where the number will plateau! I was worried that it would keep adding up over time.
  18. I understand that my problems currently are not related to the strCount > 0xFFFF issue. I'm thinking long term. How long would it take, with a particular combination of mods, to reach the threshold where my game saves are ruined? That is what I am trying to troubleshoot.
  19. Thank you so much for sharing this information with us. I believe you. I have had a rather lofty dream of someday, maybe finding the right combination of mods that I enjoy playing and are stable enough for an entire play-through. I've only managed to get to about level 27 before I really started to have problems (instant ctds, games not loading, horrible stuttering, etc). I stumbled upon the TESV ESS Editor a couple of weeks ago when I was searching for information on the effects of scripts on game saves. My level 27 character (with a ton of scripted/MCM mods) had 41341 strings, 6107 scripts, and 122002 script instances. I have had a difficult time finding solid/useful information on this subject. I would really appreciate if someone could explain the following (please forgive my ignorance): 1. What is the relationship between strings and scripts? 2. Is there any clear documentation on how to interpret the information generated by TESV ESS Editor? Also, have you posted this information on the Bethesda forums? Thanks.
  20. My guess is "Shezrie's Old Hroldan". The mod had been updated recently to "2.0". Here's the link: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/71875/? :)
  21. You're not the only one! I've been having problems with my RaceMenu morphs not sticking. I keep having to reload my preset to get my character looking right again. I have also had trouble with custom races - the mod "Custom Races", actually. I actually had to repair the mod myself to get it working properly - it had the meshes looking for the incorrect textures. Good Luck with your modding adventures! :)
  22. Everything seems ok in your load order - I have about 3/4 of the mods you have (plus several more that you don't) and I'm not having ctds. Make sure you've got HDT installed correctly. Also, try making a merged patch with TES5Edit (delete the levelled items added into the patch). There are lots of tutorials and videos on how to use TES5Edit if you don't know how.
  23. If you manual install, then yes, you will have other files/folders in your Interface folder. I use Mod Organizer, which keeps a virtual data directory separate from my actual Skyrim data folder. I haven't manually installed any mods in over four years (Fallout 3, Oblivion, Fallout New Vegas, and Skyrim). Did you, by chance, maybe install a "non-english" version of one of your mods? I checked the "Human Beast Caravan" mod page and noticed several download options. Hopefully you installed "2-2.Normaltype_Japanese Custom Voice ver_EN TEXT". I think this is the correct version for English language players.
