Stuck with inf load glitch on new game.
redravens13 replied to agitto5's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
"https://steamcommunity.com/app/377160/discussions/0/1727575977573314671/" "https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/13p1a83/fallout_4_wont_start_a_new_game_and_stays_on/ I have had this issue as well, I have come across this issue many times. What causes it? Anything ranging from a mod conflicting with the intro scene or bad load order of the mods, to the opening introduction scene to corrupt files in the game that must be required. And corrupt.INF files. I have played, modded, and run others' mods for a long time now. And I have seen it all, and do not get me started on the lingering effects of the Next-Gen Update. Crashes and freezes will wreak havoc on the game's files and saved games. Whatever is causing the intro scene to freeze can be fixed by hitting the T key and Enter key several times. The T key closes the intro and allows you to enter the character creation for the game. That is the easiest one to do and has worked many times for me. If it does not work, try getting the load order correct and/or try to find the conflicting mod. first, try disabling all your mods. If the intro scene plays, it is a mod issue. If the intro scene still hangs, it is a corrupt file, probably one of the .INI files Before you start trying to fix a bad .INI file, try to reacquire the game files on Steam. Try the easiest and work your up to the more time-consuming and aggravating. Corrupt save files can cause this issue as well. Start by deleting them all. The game has become more unstable after Bathesda' update. I can not get through a complete play threw, without having to reinstall the game totally and that includes deleting all game files on your PC. If you are on a console and have this issue, I can not give you any advice. And try not to have too many saved games, as the number of saved games goes up, the more of a chance you will get a corrupted save file. And at times, corrupted saved files will cause this issue. Above are good resources. I have not been able to play a full play threw without bugs and freezes and crashes. The vinella game has broken quests and game-breaking bugs. And so does playing the game with mods. It is what it is. Good Luck. -
NMM your fallout4custom.ini is not configured corrently
redravens13 replied to Angardia's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
My issue was not only the listed error but also prevented Fallout 4 from seeing any mods even though the mods showed installed and activated in NMM. In NMM a new profile was created labeled Creation Club Mods and overwrote my Fallout 4 profile and when I activated the original profile, NMM would crash when I tried to add, remove, enable, and disable installed mods. What caused this? My game suffered a catastrophic freeze and it could not be shut down in Task Manager, so I was forced to do a hard reboot. Somehow, not only was the game bricked, NMM was bricked. I had to delete all game files and NMM files and reinstall them and reload all mods in NMM. That is when I could not activate any mod without the error and the game would not see any mod in NMM. After reinstalling, I had to modify the listed files and delete the corrupted lines. What fixed my error in NMM and get NMM to see all the mods was to fix both the FALLOUT4.INI and the FALLOUT4.CUSTOM.INI files in the location of your operating. Usually, your "C:" drive is - C:/Users/"the name of your user file"/Documents/My Games/Fallout4 . The files in question will not be where Steam loads the major game files including your DLC's and Mods. By default on the "C:" Drive - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4 . I needed to add the lines, bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 sResourceDataDirsFinal= under the [Achive] tab. I put the 2 lines at the top within the tab in the order shown in the "Fallout4.ini" file. For the FALLOUT4.CUSTOM.INI file, I also added the two lines listed at the top in the [Archive] tab, and moved the [ARCHIVE] tab above the [Display] tab at the top of the file above all other tabs. I also removed the corrupt lines in both files. I started having problems with the game after the Next-Gin Update. This is what worked for me. -
Running as Background Process. Please, help. Please.
redravens13 replied to Crescent42's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
To say: This was not an issue before the next-generation update. At that time I was using a Win 10 Pro machine. After the update, the game was trashed not only for mods but also for the vanilla game as well. I waited for the F4SE and the F4UOP to be updated before I reinstalled my game. The vanilla game was still crap. Mods slowly caught up as best as they could, including my personal mods. So I took the time to build a new Win 11 Pro machine. After reloading all new game files, and working mods, the crash and freeze issue was the same on 11 as in 10. After the update, after some crashes and freezes, the game would load on a different monitor, not my primary monitor, at best, or load in the background and not be able to bring up into the foreground, at worst. My issue is due to running more than 1 monitor. All this after the update. My fix: The .INI file and/or files have become corrupt. For the many times this has happened, it involved different ".INI" files and at times more than 1 of the ".INI files. So I now just delete them all. Depending on what drive or file you load your game file on, for me my .INF files are spread across 3 locations. 1: Windows OS location, "Windows drive, usually C drive" Documents/My Games/Fallout4 - this is where your save files are also. 2: Steam location, will be on the Windows, "C" drive unless you put it on another drive. There will be a file in the Steam folder for Fallout4. This will be in the My Games folder or Programs folder that has your saved files and backups of the game files. In my case, Steam is located on a dedicated programs drive. 3: In my case, my game is located on a dedicated game drive. ALL .INI files must be deleted as 1 or more are corrupt. Restart and reset your personal game settings and all needed and all the needed .INI files will be recreated. If you are lucky your saved files will not be corrupted as well. That sucks when it happens. But it is what it is. Good Luck. -

Everything all the commenters have said will or will not work for this problem. It is PC and hardware and operating system-specific. A perfect storm of events as you will will cause this issue. I NEVER had this issue until after the Next Gen update! Regardless of running the game in vanilla with no mods or running mods with or without the script extender. The game will crash or freeze. And, at times, after a crash or freeze, the game will then boot in as a background application. Do what works for you to get the game to run normally. It differs for different systems and whether you are running Win 10 or 11 or Pro or Home. Thank Bethesda for this SH*T! For me, it is the fact I run 3 monitors. If I disconnect to 1 monitor it never is an issue. My fix is to set it to windowed and border mode and then I can manipulate it to start up on my primary monitor in the foreground. The next-gen update started all this crap! And it is a fix Bethesda needs to address as it is a game engine issue that mods will not fix! -
Updated NMM now all mod files are gone
redravens13 replied to DeeCake's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Losing all connections to mods in saved folders every time NMM is updated and having to manually reinstall the mod connections has now become unacceptable. I have updated 4 times and lost all connections to mods every time and had to manually reinstall the connections for each of the several hundred mods I use and then resort out the load order each time. Before that, all mods transferred without problem. 0.87.2 is the last update I installed and I will no longer update. I prefer NMM but it is not worth keeping at this point. I will keep this version until it fails. I know at one point updates did not have this problem. So this is an issue introduced 5 updates ago. -
As a modder and mod user, CBBE is much easier to use and it is better supported and there are many more outfits and armor made to use. I do not need such animations Fusion Girl allows a modder to produce. And Fusion Girl and ZAZ Extended Skeleton is hard on already stressed FPS performance.

When I start having issues in the game, I will revalidate my core game files. I will then run the plugins threw "loot". If my master files are in need of cleaning after revalidating, I will clean them including all mod files. It almost always clears up my issues. And it does not harm the base game and most mods run well. I will say, that after the Next-Gen Update, Cleaning the files helps but not as much as before. The update really messed a lot of things up. I hear a 3ed update is to be released and if that is so I foresee a lot of things will be messed up again. For now, the game is getting better as Modders are correcting what Bethesda did. So for now, I would still sat it is worth cleaning up all files Loot flags. But after the 3ed update, who knows?

I am assuming, you downloaded the latest version with the Next Gen Update. 1. Do not load any mods and start the game at the lowest settings. 2. And turn off the God Rays. It never worked and after the update, it still does not work. The game settings interface will not allow you to turn it off but will only allow you to put the setting at low even if you set it off. It still will crash your game mid-game. At game startup, go into the console and use the command: "GR OFF" No quotes. You have to do this at every startup of the game. Also, I suggest you use the Fallout 4 Config Tool v2.0.4.42176 by Bilago, to better adjust your settings. It allows you to modify settings the vanilla game will not let you set without console commands. Start with a low setting on the game with Godrays off. I can run the game but it still has a lot of problems. I used the Unofficial Patch, UNOFFICIAL FALLOUT 4 Patch-UFO4P. It did help on many issues but after the latest May 13 patch to the Next Gen Update, The game produced issues that were formally corrected. Even though the latest UFO4P was released on the 14 of May to try to correct issues it still needs work. The latest version is a stopgap, v. 2.1.6d, it is technically a Bata but still helps. All this is for PC. When Bethesda stops monkeying with the game, F4SE and the UFO4P will get stabilized and all will be good. I do not play on consoles, so with that, I am of no help. Good Luck.

In response to post #60256451. #60259951 is also a reply to the same post. I am happy for the 50% who can get this piece of crud to work!

In response to post #59954856. #60237321, #60261261 are all replies on the same post. NMM was good, it worked. Vortex killed all my mods and corrupted my saved games. Vortex just does not work and the interface is terrible!

Vortex is a non-working program from the start! NMM worked fine and now is going to be not supported forcing Moders to use Vortex. Vortex corrupted all mods in an attempt to transfer from NMM to Vortex. After 3 reinstalls, vortex will not drop the errors that have made vortex unusable!
