Thanks for the advice, it worked perfectly. When Avast informed me that skse was a trojan, it also provided a form to fill out reporting the false positive. I imagine they'll be seeing a lot of those.

Hardcore Roleplaying: Advice/Teaching Needed
Roane replied to AlduinWorldEater's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
With practice, you'll be able to determine the time, give or take an hour or less, by the sun. Of course, this isn't any help when/where the sun isn't visible. By all means, develop a backstory for your character and flesh out the personality before beginning play. You'll find that making decisions based on your character will result in a different game. For instance, my previous character was ruthless and uncaring; no way was she fetching a family heirloom for some incompetent peasant who left it in a cave. My current character *is* an incompetent peasant with the attention span of a gnat. Very different feel to the game. Character Creation Overhaul is a good idea, as it allows you to set up the character's strengths and weaknesses from the beginning. Check the Immersion category on Nexus. Good luck with both the writing and the roleplaying. -
Original character and her clone (due to problems with original's saves caused by my ignorance of how the Skyrim reacts to repeated mod installation/removal) After Martin Septim resolved the Oblivion problem, a good many women claimed their bastard offspring were Martin's. So, Martina takes the family 'history' of being descended from Martin with a grain of salt, like most of her relatives. The tradition of naming the firstborn Martin or Martina persists mostly as a joke. Martina's Imperial mother was wooed and won by a Nord; after his death (in battle, of course), she took her children back to Anvil. Years later, they receive noticed that a farm had been left to them by an uncle. Martina traveled to Skyrim to oversee the sale of the property. However, she's gotten sidetracked. And she now suspects the family legend may be true. Alternate character Nord, born and raised in Cheydinhal. She has dreamed of being a famous, well-respected mage since childhood. The kids gave her the taunting nickname 'Elfspawn,' which she adopted as her surname after leaving home to head to Skyrim, to Winterhold specifically. Where else would a Nord mage study? Unfortunately, she's pretty much an airhead, sweet and kind and gentle, but none too bright. Very forgetful, prone to being 'starstruck' in the presence of greatness. She's the poster child for 'Shiny Thing Syndrome,' so easily distracted it's a wonder she remembers to eat. Elfspawn forgot about telling the Jarl about the dragon in Helgen. Overhearing others talking about it, she decided the Jarl already knew and is far too important for her to disturb. Eventually, she'll get around to apologizing to him, and that will be interesting. Does Skyrim really need a Dragonborn with the attention span of a gnat?

I was hoping someone would say "Oh, that's a bug introduced by patch 1.whatever. We're waiting for another patch to fix it." Then, I could grumble a bit and get on with my game. Didn't really expect that, tho', since there was no mention of it online. Experience has taught me to install mods a few at a time, check that the game runs, install more, running BOSS and WryeBash after each installation. Time consuming, but necessary. Since what I was looking for was CTD, and that didn't happen, I thought everything was fine. Evidently there's a mod or combination of mods that won't play nice together in my game. Really, really was hoping to avoid the tedium of getting this straightened out. Maybe I'll just roleplay a plague that's keeping people off the roads. Thanks, anyway.

The character determines the rules, as this keeps the game interesting by affecting whether or not radiant quests are accepted, how strangers on the road are treated, how wealth is acquired, etc. The ruthless, callous Altmer woman of my last playthrough had no scruples. She was pretty much a sociopath, quite capable of watching the town guard take on a dragon, then stepping over the bodies to absorb the dragon soul. If she wanted something, she made it hers if at all possible. Definitely an 'end justifies the means' type. She wasn't pro-Thalmor because she saw them as idealistic fools. My current character is a kind-hearted, bumbling, wannabe Nord mage. She's also shy, more than a little forgetful, and easily distracted. Because of this, after running into her old friend Vilja, she forgot to tell the Jarl about the dragon attack on Helgen until she heard someone else talking about it, then figured he'd been told already, so why bother someone so important with old news? Eventually, she will feel so guilty about not taking him the message, she'll go to apologize and we all know what that first visit leads to. I'm toying with the idea of her putting on the first Amulet of Mara that she finds, and marrying the first guy that mentions it. Absolutes, regardless of character, are minimal: no fast travel (carriage use depends on the character's finances) and when a Daedric prince says jump, ask how high on the way up.

The Thalmor dragging a prisoner with them, the Imperials and Stormcloaks doing the same thing, farmers going to Solitude or Windhelm, mercenaries who may or may not share info, drug dealers, thieves; in short, the npcs that should be on the roads. After several months absence, I've returned to Skyrim. Started a new game, of course, reinstalled Skyrim, updated mods and didn't install outdated mods like Warzones. After 23.2 hours of play, still nobody on the roads. Well, the courier showed up. That's when it dawned on me, I'd met no one, in spite of going on foot except for a carriage from Windhelm to Whiterun. The game is updated to the newest patch, with Hearthfire and Dawnguard. Is this a known problem? If so, is there a known solution? On the upside, no CTDs at all.

Late replying. Very. Anyway, saving, exiting to the main menu, and reloading always fixed this problem for me in Skyrim. Unfortunately, the same problem in Fallout 3 is immune to that particular cure. :wallbash:

You know you've been playing to much Skyrim when ...

...your first impulse when seeing something impressive/cute/unusual is to take a screenshot. Add me to the list of dragon-shadow dodgers. -
My problem is Norton Sonar removing the updated skse_loader.exe. It's notorious for false positives, so probably some information online on how to deal with it.

I gave up on that game and have started a new one. Haven't visited any of the problem areas. Maybe the blue void was limited to that first game. Sounds like it could be, if you've played a lot of games and found only a few voids. sigh. Ran into a *beige* void. It prevents me from getting to vault 112. I just got Fallout 3, have never finished it. Maybe I should just play Skyrim. Third game, finally figured out what to do about the interiors that don't load. I use coc and the editor id to transport into the stricken area. Fallout wiki has a page titled Fallout 3 cell ID that lists the editor ids. Yay. So, I have a workaround, but those holes in the world sure do mess with immersion.

Playing the steam GOTY. I tried disabling the mods, verifying the cache, and finally uninstalling then reinstalling the game. Still, blue void instead of a door in, so far, Anchorage Memorial and National Guard Depot. Anyone else run into that? I did a search, several, in fact, on different forums and google in general. A blue void is mentioned a few times, but nothing about resolving it. Any ideas? Help is appreciated. Thanks.

Electric Elven bow, soul-trapping ebony war hammer, and Dragonbane. Sometimes, on a whim, Wabbajack.

I cleared it once, left Agnes living; next morning, when I went back to loot bodies and such, the Imperial army suggested I leave. They're still there.
