  1. Seems related to their API Gateway as I'm still able to download via site and install mods from my local file system, but like y'all reported I'm also experiencing issues authenticating and downloading from within MO due to Gateway Timeout.
  2. The survey will close by the end of April, but I may also close it earlier if I see that I have enough data to go on, and/or I see that there simply aren't any more responses flowing in. The timeline is mainly determined by the fact that in May at the latest, I need to be sitting down and actually writing up the results, particularly because this survey is only one part of my thesis, and the thesis as a whole must be finished by the end of this year (not as much time as it might sound). Regarding raw data, I didn't have any intention of posting raw data, because I didn't think that anybody would be interested in it. But I certainly *can* do it, if there is demand for it. And yes, when presenting my results to you guys, I will also discuss my hypotheses. Needless to say, I can't discuss the hypotheses now, because it might potentially influence how people respond to the survey. I mean, it probably wouldn't, but it's just bad practice to do so. If possible, I would like to see the raw data once the survey is closed as well.
  3. I've been using WTV on Windows 10 for a couple months without any issues, opening 4K textures as well. However a couple days ago it started behaving like you described. It's crashing very often on startup, while browsing prev/next is still fine. I wonder if something else I installed recently may have caused a conflict. I'd like to hear other suggestions too as I feel the same about heavier tools.
  4. Answering now and looking forward to seeing results. Thanks for putting it together
  5. This is awesome! The only downside is that the predator vision key you configure on MCM is only triggered during gameplay whereas the ENB toggle key is triggered during both gameplay and menus. So, assigning a key like 'v' may cause you to "desync" the state of both flags, e.g. you open SkyUI and type in something to search that contains 'v', it'll toggle ENB but not predator. That could be mitigated by assigning a key that you're not likely to use on menus but there may still be a chance to hit that by accident. I've been trying to tune brightness and saturation with Imaginator for the more reliable usability in gameplay with APPLYGAMECOLORCORRECTION, but I'm realizing it'll mess up with the ENB one way or another. When tuned for night it'll mess up with the day and vice versa, not to mention body color nearby large fire sources- it gets really odd. I think it would be really nice if predator vision could add two more options to MCM: 1. to auto toggle ENB if desired, and 2. to setup your ENB toggle key. That would keep the best from both options, visual quality and reliability.
  6. I absolutely second this topic. Open source is one of the most amazing initiatives and this community embraces it warmly. I love to see how some mods and resources are built on top of each other. Y'all rock so please accept my greatest gratitude for all of the bits you've shared.
  7. Hey I'm on night shifts and this morning I just got around to re-installing Old Skyrim again to enable me to do it .. among everything else I want to do .. Patience is a virtue. Fingers crossed I can safely uninstall Old Skyrim for good after this time. Its now done And I can concur your first run on Hearthfires MD5 I think you may have done the procedure slightly wrong and produced a different checksum. The only things different after cleaning with TES5Edit v3.2 was the auto cleaned and manual cleaned stages of Dawnguard.esm, those have new MD5 checksums and CRCs which concur with your results. Edit : And if anyone is wondering - I can confirm the same routine needs to be applied to Skyrim Special Edition plugins, even the manual cleaning, you will get a few different checksum results and amount of ITMs / UDRs cleaned because Bethesda managed to add a few more, but the routine is the same. That sounds great, I really appreciate you finding some time to revive this thread. It's been helpful to build confidence for new folks like me. BTW on a second run I was able to get Hearthfires CRC to match with your OP. About Dawnguard, thanks for verifying I have the right checksums since latest xEdit 3.2. I saw you updated the OP with that info which is great. I think the forum bugged though and duplicated your checksum blocks a couple times. I'm updating my comments to avoid confusion as well. Cheers!
  8. Hey let us know when you have a chance to update the CRCs and MD5s with the latest tools. That was a great idea and it would be nice to keep it updated.
  9. Hey Ishara just wanted to share some good news, I did a fresh install and everything's working just fine now. I'll probably some next steps soon (converting armor + HDT) but for now I'm very happy with this. Thanks for stopping by and helping me out!
  10. 3 years later... cam's solution still works like a charm! Thanks!! =)
  11. Sounds good, take your time to catch up with oldrim and it's good to have you back active to help us out. :)
  12. I understand all of that but it honestly doesn't belong in a beginner's guide. There are PLENTY of guides out there on how to clean files. My guide is not about that and most likely will never include info for that aspect of modding. This guide is for beginners, I MAY add another guide in the future that details more info for more things, but I want to keep this guide simple, clean, and easy for a beginner to use. If you understand "all of that", it's confusing why you didn't explain that before. Instead, you sent me to a popular Gopher video that contradicts your guide, saying you're not sure yourself about the subject: It doesn't add up either with the following comment you made a few hours ago: Still, I appreciate your intention in being helpful. Good luck! :)
  13. I appreciate you explaining what you've learned recently, so it may be helpful as well for you to improve your guide. What I've learned from others in this short term is that the problem is not about cleaning specific files. It's rather about cleaning specific types of records. Per source, ITM records are harmless and UDR's are not. Deleted navmeshes are also harmful but wouldn't fit in a beginners guide. E.g. immersive fallen trees mod had this problem until more experienced users helped the mod author by adding navmeshes so NPC's could see the fallen tress and cross them (source: search this topic for "deleted navmeshes").
  14. Once again, this is a BEGINNER's guide, I am not going to continue to answer those questions. If you had READ the entire guide you would have seen that there are 2 other guides linked at the bottom, 1 intermediate, and 1 for advanced. Go check those out. You're making a bad assumption gromulos in saying that I didn't read your guide entirely, especially in a childish tone like that using caps lock to emphasize the obvious. It sounds rather inappropriate for someone that is "willing" to help. In fact, I did read your guide entirely and it's rather confusing as it contradicts what experienced mod developers say in other threads. Thanks for trying anyway, I still appreciate your good intentions.
  15. Yeah skeleton is latest XP Extended 3.93 - here's the full installation filename in MO: XP32 Maximum Skeleton Extended-68000-3-93.7z - when I start a new game I notice exactly as you described, a message from Immersive Armors right after I setup the game start on MCM. I tried these other suggestions as they were new to me- not running the bat anymore and starting somewhere quieter, and I'm still having the same issue. I'm realizing yes I'll need to give up on something eventually, like a custom armor sounds reasonable but I'd love to get the armor replacers to work because they look so good and make a positive impact on the whole game. Thanks a lot for your help again any other advice that comes to mind is still greatly appreciated.
  16. I just did this again and decided to verify through CRC instead of MD5. I was able to get HearthFires.esm to match CRC with the one from OP. However I'm still getting a different CRC for Dawnguard at the first auto clean. If anyone has a clean Dawnguard per OP instructions, please post your CRC. You can check that in 7z if you compress only one file.
  17. Thanks for your help! It happens within a minute. I'm using Skyrim Unbound to start in Whiterun in the morning. Always new char, first thing I'll run a bat to reach level 100, go in and out Belethor's and observe the Ebony Warrior and Courier with the purple issue. Then if I play for another few minutes or even seconds it'll eventually crash. Good to know I don't *need* to convert UNP armor to UNPB or worry about adding HDT support just yet. I'll make those improvements once I'm comfortable with these first steps. I think all body pieces I'm using are assigned to slot 32 because I notice the body shape changing when I equip them. As long as I don't have any armor replacer, I can play for several minutes with 1000 speed multiplier through the whole map just fine while using several other HD landscape textures and observe Performance Monitor counters at about 60-80% GPU and far below 3.1 GB VRAM usage (is that still the limit BTW?). I haven't reached nearly 1 GB VRAM usage, so it keeps running smoothly. The rig is pretty dope though (strix 1080) which probably helps, so it seems like crash fixes, mem block etc. are not the case. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Given that enabling armor replacers will predictably cause the issue- what else should I consider other than converting armors?
  18. You really shouldn't need the UNP Armor Replacer Package for females while using Immersive Armors by Hrothtropper. But, if you insist on using it, you are right about converting them from UNP to UNPB and supporting HDT. I really don't feel comfortable linking a guide for you as I am just learning these topics myself. Converting old Skyrim mods to Skyrim Special Edition has taught me a lot. Please remember that this guide is SUPPOSED to be about beginner stuff, what you're talking about above is not something a beginner would be doing. That sounds good, thanks again- you've been very helpful. Please allow me to ask you a couple last questions before I move onto a more specific thread. Why shouldn't I need both? Is there an option for Immersive Armors to look like the other one on females? E.g. similar to cross crusade or remodeled armors? Also, if I switch body to UNP, would it simplify the process so I don't need to convert anything? Lastly, how about HDT in that case?
  19. Hi, I'm new to modding so I'm having a hard time to put the right pieces together to properly replace armor and clothing from different mods. My goal is to have Immersive Armors for males and UNP Armor Replacer Package for females--which body is UNPB with Naturalistic HDT. Animations are working fine with XPMS Extended, FNIS etc. Once I install one of these armor replacers, I'll start observing 3 problems: Some armor pieces will start rendering in either a solid black or shiny purple color that seems like missing texture (e.g. ebony body, but not hands/feet). Same for the Courier's clothing. Game will start crashing in a predictable manner, eventually upon looting or managing inventory, but occasionally opening a door as well--perhaps first time loading some NPC? Oddly, if I disable texture mods like Verdant (landscape textures, completely different I guess?) it'll no longer render some items in black/purple, but still crash eventually. Please note I'm *always* testing with a *new* save game. How do I solve these issues? Do I *need* to convert these armors from UNP to UNPB? How about HDT support, is it optional or required? If required but not supported, how hard is it to add HDT support when converting these armors and clothes? Am I missing something else? Any other advice is greatly appreciated as well. Thanks, -v
  20. Hey gromulos- now I'm following your guide only and it's going much better. The only thing that I'm still having a hard time is armor replacement. These are the mods that once I install I start getting CTD's (keep in mind I'm *always* testing with new save games). Essentially, I'm trying to have Immersive Armors for males, and UNP Armor Replacer Package for females--which body is UNPB HDT (just default, no BodySlide customization). So, I guess I'll need to convert these armors from UNP to UNPB and make sure they support HDT? Since that could go off-topic, feel free to point me out to another guide or thread that you think would be a good starting point for me. Thanks
  21. Good stuff, thanks cooley- you've helped me clarifying things a lot better.
  22. It's true that since the DLCs load first (and in a predictable order) the ITM (Identical to Master) records aren't a problem. Any mods loaded later will overwrite them in either case. Even with other mods the only real problem with ITM records is that they are almost always accidental edits so a mod that is loading later could be accidentally and unexpectedly overwriting an intentional change made by some other mod. (Unfortunately that happens far more often than it should which is why cleaning mods has become such a standard recommendation.) But the UDR (Undelete and Disable Reference) step of cleaning is much more important, even for the DLCs. If some mod ever tries to access one of the original game records that the DLCs (or any other mod earlier in the load order) mark as deleted the game will crash. That may be a rare event and certainly depends on exactly which combination of mods you have installed, but it's a lot less work in the long term to simply clean the DLCs than try to diagnose strange game crashes later. Deleted navmeshes are also a problem but since there's no automated way to fix them the realistic option is to wait to see if your game crashes consistently when you try to enter a particular cell and then deal with the problem if you really need to. For for a minimalist approach you can simply load Update.esm, Dawnguard.esm, Hearthfires.esm, and Dragonborn.esm into TES5Edit/SSEEdit and use the Undelete and Disable Reference option on each of them. But I highly recommend you do at least that step unless you like diagnosing game crashes. This is really good input- thanks for sharing it. I've been back and forth with clean/dirty master files per different recommendations from people who all play Skyrim on PC for a while and seem to have an opinion about that. Now I'll definitely consider cleaning only UDR as an alternative to all or nothing. Question about ITM- do you know if it affects memory usage to have ITM records? E.g. first records are loaded from Skyrim.esm, and then ITM records are loaded from Update.esm. Any chance that memory was never freed from the first allocation? This is more curiosity as to whether it's garbage collected, or ITM being a mistake on Bethesda side would result in memory leaks like I described. Reading guides and posts about CTD's, it first seemed more like I need several tools and procedures for a stable game, and the more I learn about it I'm realizing some of that stuff seems situational or overkill. Below is what I think makes sense so far, with a few questions. When replying please consider my PC is high end (STRIX 1080) if that makes any difference to these questions. xEdit to clean UDR at leastBashed patch from Wrye -- even if I don't have mods touching leveled lists, so in Wrye I only see Bethesda plugins in the leveled lists section when building the patch, do I still need a bashed patch in that case?Merged plugins within the bashed patch from Wyre -- even if I'm not even close to 255 mods yet, do I still need to merge plugins for any other reason?LOOT for sorting but always consulting docs for eventually manual sorting on a per mod basisTweak skse.ini for higher DefaultHeap -- 512 or 768 MB DefaultHeap?Extra mods for stability (e.g. Crash fix, ENBoost) - do I need these at all?Patience and baby STEPs :smile:Anything else not listed that you would recommend?
  23. First time I played Skyrim was on PS3 a long time ago, and it was pretty bad although there were no mods. After level 40 or so, it would take over a minute on loading screens, and without unofficial patches it would get in bugged state for several quests too. However I do remember it wouldn't CTD at all, which is starting to make more sense now to be related to poor modding practices. Thanks for your input again!
  24. Are we talking about the same game, developed by Bethesda? Joke aside, I'm happy for you since that's your case. :)
  25. I want to give your guide a fair try, because first try I already had some progress from other guides so it's hard to tell what went wrong. So, I cleaned everything for a fresh start, and reinstalled every single piece from base game to all the tooling and mods, with no backups whatsoever. I'll probably take a few hours or days to come back with some (hopefully good) news! :)
