  1. Helgen is the very first place, where you define the character race and gender etc. The castle with snow is well into the game, and is not an optimal place to start adding mods, as mods can affect and contradict what is already in the savegame files. Once you get your mods set up and understand whats going on, you can add and remove mods as long as you do it "properly" but to start, you want to reduce the number of issues, hence the recommendation to start a new game. If you have the NON Special edition version, you do NOT need the DLC. I have non SE edition, and it works fine once its installed correctly. In any case the key is dependencies. If mods say it requires another mod, then you MUST install that mod first. Be aware that mod authors might not always be clear about what is required, sometimes you have to read the entire description to discover something is required. In addition to installing in the dependencies, the load order is the other critical aspect. You need a load order sorting tool. I use LOOT (legacy 0.64) since I have old Skyrim and Windows XP. Remove both mods, and install one, if it does not crash, install the next. This will tell you which mod has and issue, probably with you video driver or other hardware related adjustment. If you have follower mods, crashes come from incompatible skeletons, etc. In any case, add and debug one mod at a time. Its quicker.
  2. So we know gandalftw likes the stones, and the stones are still together and drawing crowds despite Keith Richards heroin addiction. We know the Beatles broke up and most of the best ones are dead. To this day I still hear more Beatles than the Stones on the Radio. I don't play much of either myself, I'm sick of most of those tunes, but there's still a few that pop up in my play list. When I think of which band had the most drastic affect on my attitude, I would choice either; I would agree with the previous poster that pointed to Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. To this day that music surprises and astounds me. But really, to ask which band is the most influential in rock and roll is like asking which twig on a shrub is the most influential. Its not the individual twigs, its the shrub as a whole that keeps growing dynamically and getting more interesting. The older branches like the Beatles and Stones are getting very woody, but those are still growing from other branches.
  3. the question is phrased too broadly: Material wealth + comfort -or- friendships + influence ... is not an either/or choice, nor is it an exhaustive set of options. Wealth at the expense of comfort and influence at the expense of friendships are common counter examples. Struggle through adversity and security of loved ones are also common indicators of prosperity. The real questions are: How much to you carer about the opinion of acquaintances and strangers, and do you take responsibility for your own actions? Typically, carrying about the opinions of strangers to the extent that ones does not break laws is considered health/expedient; caring about close individuals to the extent that you are surrounded by happy people is also considered healthy/expedient; doing the opposite is not. If you take responsibility for your own actions, you can pretty much do whatever makes you happy. Otherwise folks tend to be unhappy and blame "god" and just deal with things as they are. Of course these are very broad generalizations, but you get the idea. I would suggest work on asking you question better by examining what is important to YOU, and why. You can get hints by reading the great philosophers, but those would only be hints, the real answer comes from inside YOU.
  4. Just checking, do you have have Special Edition (includes the DLC) or original Skyrim (does not include the DLC). Did you play through Helgen (and save) before adding mods? Did you check each mod for required dependencies? Dependencies are NOT automatically added, you have to add these BEFORE you add the mod that needs them. For example, if you add a follower that requires XPMS skeleton, the game will crash if the skeleton is not present. Installing to D: drive should be handled by Steam, and should not be an issue to the game.
