  1. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this....and I am speaking as a 100% user. I have not authored mod one and it's not because I am a freeloader, it's because I have I don't have the knack for it. Not everyone does. I am also disabled, so my monthly income is limited, which means I can't donate (although I wished I could!). In other words: even though I, personally, have no skin in this game (so to speak) I endorse this move by Nexus wholeheartedly.

I honestly don't get why this is even "a thing". Modders do what they were going to do anyways, yet now they may (or may not) get something for their time and effort. It's not like they are holding their mod hostage until you download it....they are uploading it ANYWAY, and this system may show them some reward for it. So I say good on you Nexus, for taking the time, energy, and wherewithal to implement such a system to help keep modding a viable hobby. Oh, and I'm American and won't be running away (I seriously don't understand what that has to do with anything anyway, but saw it addressed a couple of times), so not all of us 'Mericans are swayed by stuff like this.

  2. Mods are really what you want out of the game...personal preference, if you will. I'd start at the "Most Endorsed" and just look around for the kind of stuff you want to do in game.

I highly recommend CBBE body, as it probably allows the most customization and is the most supported of body mods (You will need Bodyslide as well...the two pretty much go hand in hand). Looksmenu, and Looksmenu Compendium are just about required if you want to really get in there and tweak your characters looks and/or use other user's presets, but they they require F4SE (which is pretty much required for any mod that uses a bunch of scripts, so bottom line....GET IT and learn how to install in first).

Armorsmith and Weaponsmith Extended allows for alot of weapon and armor customization, but they can be daunting to install for someone who doesn't have much experience modding on the PC (and for some of us that do too!), but the mod author has video tutorials set up to make installation easier. There are many, many, MANY weapons and armors to chose from...so much so that it really depends on how you want to play: a gritty, realistic style, a more adult oriented play through (slooty and skimpy), historically accurate, down right silly....all up to you and there are weapons and armors to support all of those play styles.

if you are into settlement building then you can't go wrong with Sim Settlements, Homemaker, Scrap Everything, Place Anywhere, Better Stores, Better Settlers, Transfer Settlements, Robot Home Defense....quite frankly the list goes on and on. Again, all up to your play style.

As for companions, Unlimited Companion Framework is essential for more than one companion, and let's be honest, Bethesda's locking you in at one companion at a time has always baffled me. If you were really wandering around the dangerous wasteland, you'd have has many people who would follow you as you could (granted 4-5 is usually the max I have with me at one time due to logistical issues of tight spaces and such). There are presets and face changers for all of the Beth companions, awesome Robot customization mods for Automatron, and really good standalone companions like Heather Casdin and Wintermute.

There are DLC sized quest mods like the extremely professional and expertly done Fusion City Rising, Outcasts and Remnants, 50 ways to Die at Dr. Nick's, and Xander's aid (all authored by the same group or members of the same group) which are fun, hard, and extremely hilarious in places (the battle with the pimps...my god the music had me on the floor!) and also reward you with companions, armor, weapons, and various items/perks.

So basically however you want to play FO4 there is 9 times out of 10 a mod that supports that play style. I'd start at the most endorsed and work your way backwards, downloading what you think you will make your play through yours. But remember, there are a maximum of 255 .esm/.esp slots (all Beth games have this limitation) so keep that in mind when downloading and as already warned in prior posts, the more you mod, the greater the chance at CTD, drops in FPS, some mods not working as intended (mod conflicts), and a host of other weird, crazy s#*! that will have you pulling your hair out! Follow the instructions on installing the mods, learn how to manage load orders, get FOedit and LOOT and be ready to troubleshoot for hours if need be to get it all right. Welcome to PC modding!

  3. Just give it a day or two....these guys are usually pretty quick with a fix, especially since it's just a small patch. It is annoying though, I'll give you that. It's the price of modding a Beth game on the PC.

  4. Dude, I'd just stop now....you've already been called out by 2 of the most respected modders on the scene (one of which you used in your "example" which was summarily disabused by said modder) which kinda blows your whole theory out of the water. Oh, and your funny little nicknames became old after the first sentence. Just some constructive criticism.

  5. This is NOT meant to be flame time:

Be very careful with Nude & Sex Mods. I cannot tell you how many times, with Skyrim - I would be asked to "HELP! My game keeps CTD'ing."

IF they had Nude or Sex mods - it was 99% of the time, the cause / effect of the CTD.

I am now getting PM's for FO-4 and some are getting CTD's with Nude and Sex Mods as well. This has been confirmed by the people that I have helped, in that they stated, "Yes, it stopped when I removed those Mods."

So just be aware, is all.

I believe it is fair to say that CBBE is a tad bit more than just a Nude or sex mod.....while it can have issues (like any mod), I'd say it and Bodyslide are two of the most stable mods out there.

  6.

    And yes, everything is powered.

I needed outside power to the terminal - connected to the bike

Clem assigned himself to all special items

Hmmm, I can't remember if I powered the terminal/bike separately.....if that's a requirement then it's a stupid one, seeing as how just about anything else in the world can be powered via the daisy chain. Anywho, will look into it, thx for the reply.

power source -> terminal -> bike

instead of a possible alternate - trying to power the terminal from the bike

Unfortunately, no matter what sequence I power the bike/terminal, nothing seems to work. The terminal is just blank. *sigh*

  8. Ok, maybe I just missed something when doing the quest, but I cannot for the life of me get anything to show up when I attach a terminal to the exercise bike in order to get Clem to produce power. I've tried every type of terminal that I can make and none of them lets me progress the quest and I can't assign Clem to the bike. Does anyone have any clue why my terminals aren't working? And yes, everything is powered.

  10. It's not cheating....it's using the tools that were provided with the game to get a desired outcome. Oh, and a successful game is both fun AND engaging...not one or the other. If a game is not fun, then I will stop playing it, no matter how "engaging" it is and vice versa if it's just mindless fun without engaging the player, then it gets tedious rather quickly.

  11. FO4 is a fairly good game, albeit, with some very Bethesda styled weaknesses. Absolutely hated the dialogue wheel thing and shortened responses that it presented...that was so obviously console orientated that left a bad taste in my mouth until "Full Dialogue Interface" mod came along. The settlement building experience is merely ok and I feel that they missed a good opportunity to fully flesh it out by linking nearby settlements into actual communities....also, why can't I appoint a "sheriff" or something to oversee settlement defense so that I don't have to come back every two days and bail them out of another mess? Settler AI (and NPC AI in general) is just plain bad....even mods are having a hard time getting these clowns to do what they are supposed to do. The voiced PC is a novelty that, by and large, worked, but also probably limited alot of the PC/NPC interactions....which is why many are complaining of the "shallowness" of the interactions. Weapon choices are pretty limited, but mods have taken care of that already, so not really that big of a deal. Combat is fine ( I never use VATS) but doesn't really change much, ie you either "point and shoot" or you "run and bash/stab"...not much strategy involved, but it is what it is. The companions are well done compared to other Beth games and I like that you have to do their own little quest lines to get their unique perk. The main quest/story....that is just plain "meh". It pigeonholes you into one mindset for the entire game, even though you can accomplish so much more once you are free of the Vault. Honestly, if I were looking for my kid, building settlements for the Minutemen, exploring the Commonwealth looking for lost technology for the BoS, or trying to free enslaves synths for the Railroad would be the LAST thing on my mind. It doesn't make sense to do all (or any, really) of these things if you are truly looking for your child.

I like FO4, and still play it to some degree, but it is heavily modded and can't really see myself playing this long WITHOUT mods. So, in my opinion, vanilla FO4 was good, but modded FO4 is better. Far Harbor and Automaton were good, the workshop stuff is pretty useless as far as I am concerned and I am hoping Nuka World is going to be along the lines of Far Harbor.

A lot of modders, including the SOT (Sands of Time) Team, lost their entire modded Skyrim setup due to the aforementioned radical update. I really don't want to have to play Russian Roulette with future NMM updates.

drscott11 wrote: I think what he is saying is that do we really need these new features? Honestly I have zero use for them. Are they nice tech achievements, yes, but not really necessary imo.

I'd really like to see more QoL features like a better UI, the ability to "send esp to top/bottom" of the mod list or to a specific number/place in the load order. How about fixing the horrid column resizing in the mod activation list or improving the abysmal performance of the "remove mod from all profiles" as it takes forever even on an i7 w/SSD. I could go on but I'm sure others will agree.

I'd like to see more focus on improving the core product as opposed to adding unneeded features.
janishewski wrote: I couldn't disagree more. These features are, I think, fundamental to make modding easier which should be the main goal of NMM in the first place. Exchanging mod setups with people that have already worked out the kinks and have a stable game going is a fantastic feature that will bring more people into modding. I see, almost daily, stories around the internet about how people want to mod their games, but don't know where to start, and let's be honest, this is a good community, but as I know from when I started years ago, it is not the most friendly towards people new to it and new to modding. Just because a feature may not be important to you, does not mean it won't be important to modding. There is no reason for a mod manager of any kind to exist if the point isn't to make modding games easier. If you want to wait and see how the next release pans out before upgrading, I see no problem. The current version of NMM isn't working properly in many ways anyway.

It sounds like you know a fair bit about modding your game. That's great! The problem is, the vast majority of people don't. This kind of stuff isn't there for the people that know a lot about modding, it's there for those who want it to be simple and easy. There are tons of people who want to get into modding their games, but for them, it's too intimidating to start. And who can blame them for feeling that way? With nearly 50K mods uploaded to the Skyrim Nexus, and 12K on Fallout 4, that's a lot to take in for someone new. Adding shareable profiles is mostly for those new people. It helps them get a grasp on how modding works, without throwing too much at them. That way, the modding community expands it's borders; and the more people in the community the better! After all, the more people that are here, the more people will be making great new mods, which means great news for you!

Just because this update won't accomplish things for you directly doesn't mean that it won't be beneficial to everyone in the long run
arkayn71 wrote: What I want is the capability of upgrading mods back again.

Currently all we can do is install the new version and then uninstall the old version, not intuitive at all.
midtek wrote: Well, so as long as update doesn't cause malfunction, there's no problem about adding new features right? Even if some find it has zero use for them. OP and drscott11 are talking about different things.
lemonsquare wrote: "I think what he is saying is that do we really need these new features? Honestly I have zero use for them."

What an absolutely puzzling statement. The upcoming features are extremely, extremely useful, objectively speaking.
ff7legend wrote: I, myself, don't use Profiles at all. They're bugged/glitched & the more mods one has installed, the more likely for something to go wrong. Just ask tonycubed (SOT Team member) what can happen when switching profiles with a large mod list like his. The 0.60 update was far too radical & completely destroyed many modders' mod setups/game installs in their entirety. I don't want to have to deal with that risk yet again, hence why I'm posting about not wanting to play Russian Roulette when it comes to updating NMM yet again.
drscott11 wrote: It all sounds great until you actually try to use the feature and it breaks everything... I obey the KISS rule... With over 200 ESP's in my load order, and with some of my mods being over 1GB each, it takes a life-age for NMM to switch to another profile. I find it far easier and much less buggy to do it manually.... which still takes over 2hrs for a complete reinstall.

Also, NMM does not handle errors well and it's likely that it will freeze or crash while switching which is a waste of time and trashes your install.

Yup, I just switched my Skyrim profile from my "adult" version to my son's much watered down version and it took a very loooong time to do that. And I still had to go back in and manually adjust a bunch of mods. I like the profile feature, as it let's my son play Skyrim (FO4 is a mature game for adults, so he's getting no where near that game anyways), but it still has some bugs that need ironing out....I can't even begin to imagine the chaos of trying to d/l and implement someone elses modded game.

With all of that negative said, I do like the idea of sharing mod profiles and I think the back up/snapshot idea is tremendous, it's just that I see major problems on the horizon if the core stuff isn't nailed down first.
  13. Awe nuts that mod is my absolute favorite. Is he going to try and post it to another site?

He was banned because the mod contained stolen assets....even if it were uploaded to another site it would be wrong to d/l it and use it.....just saying.

  14. Skyrim is 5 years old and is all that many modders have had to concentrate on, until FO4 came along. (yes, yes, I know about ppls still modding FO3, FNV, Morrowind, and Oblivion even now, but they are in the minority). With that said, high fantasy has always been able to lend itself to a more "imaginative" telling of a story. Different races, different classes, different combat styles, magic, other worlds/realms....all highly malleable and moddable in the right hands, to move the story along to where one sees fit.

FO4 is a different kind of beast...you are locked into (for the most part, although modders have done things with this) one race: human, you pretty much have one main goal: finding your son, your environment is pretty much the same: nuclear wasteland, your combat is generally limited to melee or ranged, the world is bleaker (by design) and probably a bunch of other differences that I can't think of right now. I'm not say this is a bad thing, mind you, just that there are major differences between the type of games. Skyrim let you RP as just about anything you could imagine, while FO4 is more of a RPG/Action/Shooter hybrid. Yes, there is the settlement building thing, which is a good thing (much more robust than Hearthfire), along with technology (the FO equivalent of magic?), and many different factions/races to fight, but Skyrim had most of this in some form or another.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that, while both games were built by the same developer, they are 2 very different types of games, with different elements. It is really up to the player, which they prefer: the dragon and mythical laden world of Skyrim, with it's magic and low tech fighting, or the bleak and unforgiving world of the post apocalyptic FO4, with it's technology and high tech fighting.

I personally prefer Skyrim, but I wouldn't kick FO4 out of bed either......

  15. Okay, so i've only recently bought Fallout 4 (PC version). Naturally i wanted some mods to enhance the gaming experience. But for whatever reason, the mods i downloaded won't work.

Does this mean i have to register on a Bethesda account to get mods?

I've also noticed that Fallout doesn't have the same menu thing that comes up, allowing you to pick and choose the mods you want for that play session like Skyrim has. So i don't know what to do.

It may have something to do with the fact that i downloaded these mods to the NMM before i had ran the game, which the NMM informs me is a big nono, since the INI file hasn't been established. But i have no idea how to rectify this.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Getting mods to work correctly can be a tricky thing....you have to edit your .ini files, fuss about with load orders, research what will and what won't work with each other, and a host of various other things and then if you are diligent (and sometimes lucky) you can enjoy all of the mod goodness. I think that is one of the biggest issues that is separating the PC and console camps right now...one is used to messing around under the hood, and the other has never really had to do it. Watch videos, read tutorials, and research guides and you'll be fine....just remember that it can be daunting at first, so go easy on yourself. In other words, start out with 5-10 mods that most interest you, but are not super complicated to install and read the description page as well as the comment sections for each mod, as alot of questions to problems are answered there.

  16. @zanity - You've completely misinterpreted my comment, sorry you didn't get the joke. Honestly though, you're comment is a stunning example of why I made that comment. Beth ninja updating their game and Steam making it automatic is a very small, minuscule thing to happen. You're making it out to be the end of the world that you can't play your game without F4SE. Yes it sucks, it affects me too, and I even paid full price for the game and its season pass. Mods like Place Everywhere and LooksMenu are essential for me. I'm not going to throw some tantrum like a child, I'll just move on to do something else. I can wait until the F4SE team uploads their patch, I have other things I can do. Its not hard, you can do it too.

@sirjohn45 - Same, but that's not how things work. Ultimately they don't have to if they don't want to. They're not making money off this, this is their free time that they do this. We're not entitled to F4SE, we're privileged to have it and the wonderful people that made it. Its the one thing now that separates pc modding of bethesda games and console mods of beth games.

We can play WITHOUT F4SE, but many of us choose not to. That's my call, so I can't blame anyone but myself if I don't play.....but that still doesn't mean I don't grumble about it.

Err, we've all been saying the same thing for months now....in fact, the only ones who do not agree with us are Bethesda and a handful of console users (not all mind you, I'd venture to say not even a majority, but a few like the wild west show that is Beth.net). Dead horse, beaten.
