  1. Hey there, I'm really f**ked up at the moment. I got the Under Saarthal quest but Tolfdir didn't show up. So I used the console to reset the quest. Problem is, now the quest disappeared from the journal, I can't talk to Tolfdir to start again the quest and I can't use console commands to enable the quest (is not working). I can do just nothing and the whole College is broken for me. Does anybody know how to fix this?
  2. @RSnider: No, i didn't change anything in the ini-file. @the others: Well, thanks for the help but I guess the solution can't be to download the ENB-series. Also, with 16 gb RAM, a good HDD and quite a good CPU I can't imagine that I would need performance boosting programms. Like I said my rig should be able to handle everything on ultra. Sry if I sound precocious, the help is nontheless appreciated!
  3. Hello guys! I have a similar problem. Yesterday I tried out Skyrim for the first time and wanted to test out the optimal graphic settings before really beginning to play. I only used the old 1.1 version of Skyrim with latest graphic drivers installed. So I set everything to ultra except 4x AA (because I don't notice a difference in-game) with 4x SSAA and Quality Ambient Occlusion through the nVidia Control Panel. I hadn't done any ini-tweaks or mods installed so far. I just started a new game and ran straight to Whiterun (because I had heard that it's a good place to test out performance). So my average FPS (with FRAPS) was 50 and never dropping under 30. Changing single graphic settings, I quickly noticed that changing AA, SSAA, AF or Ambient Occlusion barely affected my FPS at all (either way). The game ran fluidly so far. Unfortunately, when I got out of Whiterun at sunset, and when the rays of the sun broke through the branches of a nearby tree my fps dropped to 20-22!!! I made a quicksave and changed the shadow settings from ultra to high and gained 40 fps!!! running around the area of whiterun with up to 80 fps. I wanna know if it's possible that this setting can cripple my gpu so much? (I know that shadows are a big fps killer, but 40 fps???) Besides I think my rig should be able to deal with ultra shadows. I saw youtube-videos of ppl who had the exact rig as mine and could run everything on ultra + many graphic mods. So here's my rig: Windows 7 64bit ASUS P8Z68 V-Pro i7-2600k @3,4ghz 16 gb ram Geforce GTX 580 1,5 gb VRAM Corsair GS600 Also, I played with the native 1920x1080 resolution on a single monitor, real time virus scan was disabled, there weren't any other programs running in backgound (except FRAPS), energy option was set for high performance and my gpu wasn't overheating. My overall time in-game was estimated 30-45 minutes. I had to leave Vsync enabled to avoid too many fps fluctuations. Hope someone can help for I'm not much of a PC expert. Thanks already!
  4. Well maybe I'll give it a try with the speed fan control utilities. I use the latest nVidia drivers for my gtx580 (must be 296.something).
  5. No I'm not using a speed fan control program. By the way temps were read by Open Hardware Monitor. Also, idle temps are under 40 °C.
  6. Hey guys, This may not be a specific Oblivion question but I'm a bit puzzled about my GPU temp while playing Oblivion. Even after only 20-30 minutes of playing my GPU temp is @82 °C but my GPU fan is just working with 33 %. Why is that? I'm playing Oblivion 1.2 using Quarl's Texture Pack and a hand full of other minor mods. My rig: Windows 7 64 bit Asus P8Z68-VPro i7 2600k gtx 580 1,5gb VRAM WD Caviar Black 500gb Corsair GS600 I wnana know about that because I have the intention to enhance the graphics of Skyrim with HD mods etc. after finishing with Oblivion and I don't want my GPU to explode because of a faulty configuration of my fan. Sorry for grammar mistakes and maybe lacking basic computer knowledge.
  7. Hello Nexus Community, I'm currently still playing Oblivion but I'm soon going to check out Skyrim. I hope that this subforum is the right place to ask and I'm aware that to some extent there are already similar questions by other user yet I haven't found all answers I'm looking for. I've read dozens of guides for boosting your performance in the game so far and I'm quite sure that my system won't encounter big problems with vanilla skyrim (my system listed below). To cut short, I plan to enhance Skyrim with graphic improvement/texture mods and I finally found the STEP-guide. So here are my questions: 1. Expecially some HD-Texture-Packs have a negative effect on the performance of the game. Apart from fps drops, there are often comments on prolongated loading screens. How long would that be? (estimated, I mean I don't wanna wait 2 minutes every time I step into a house.) 2. Doesn't it look some kind of strange if you use too many different texture mods? And if you use e.g. Deteiled Whiterun and HD-textures isn't there a sudden change between the hd-textures of the original game and the added "normal" textures of the added content of Whiterun? 3. If you use more than one texture mod that let's just say covers 90 % of the game and another to cover the other 10 %, does the running of these two mods cause a significant performance drop in comparison to running just the one covering 90 %? I ask this because the list in the STEP guide is quite long... 4. Do you think that all suggested graphic mods in the STEP-guide are worthy or that some are missing?(I haven't found the Superl3 or the ENB HD textures)? And why do you even need the mods that are overwritten by others? 5. Final questsion for the evening: Do you think my system can manage the mods from the STEP-guide? :D My System: Windows 7 64bit Mainboard Asus P8Z68-V Pro Intel i7- 2600k GeForce GTX580 DirectCU2 with 1,5gb (updated drivers) 16 gb RAM Western Digitals WD500 Caviar Black 500gb Corsair GS600 LG Super Multi Blue Creative Soundcard Thanks a lot already, Nightfrost
