Yeah 10 mb 80 hours in is not bad. I've heard a bunch of stuff about how big they actually should be, and i think 10 mb is a little on the large side, but my game that i know for a fact is corrupted and detroyed by a bloated save file is 92 hours in, and the save file is 122 mb. so you're obviously no where near that.

Must configure controls every time i start!

'I've got this too. I don't know why. It hasn't been a big deal for me, because all I want to do is swap sprint to shift and walk to alt, but it never saves it. Sometimes it even reverts back to default while playing. I just finish a dialog or something and all of a sudden, alt is sprint again. -
Check the size of your save files. May be bloated. Been happening all over. Screws up everything.

Find your save files in your skyrim folder in "my documents" and check their sizes. Been loads of issues with all sorts of symptoms, including CTDs, caused by a bug making bloated save files. The way I understand it, it seems that save files any bigger than like 5-8 mb max, are probably corrupted, and cause issues like that. I had to start a new character recently because my main guy's save file bloated up to 122mb.

More developments with the strange weapons. It now seems there is a third possible damage rating. I still get a large boost to damage rating with all weapons when facing east, and now, my bow at least, has a third, even higher damage that it will randomly go to. I've only seen the third with my bow, but I've got it over the course of less than a minute, go from 36 damage, to 53 damage, to 80, and back. It seems to be doing 36 most of the time (which I think is the correct damage. it's a glass bow (superior), and I have one level on the overdraw perk), and it goes up to 53 when facing east. I haven't found a pattern yet for when it decides to jump all the way to 80, but I saw it a couple times today.

What do I have to do to get help in this forum?
shmimbadad replied to Dragonflarcos's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I tried this, myself. My ini file didn't even have a Papyrus section, but I just went ahead and added it, and it didn't completely fix my CTDs, but there seems to be a lot less since putting that in. I like. Thank you. Also, I got BOSS, and I don't really know how much of a difference it made, (i'm probably using a third as many mods as TC, if that) but my game does seem to be running a lot better lately. Still a shame about my corrupted save file that screwed my main character, but my new guy is coming along nicely, and the save file has been lingering under 5mb for a while now. -
Check the size of your save file on your other game, that was getting the low fps. Bloated save file issues have been getting reported like crazy since the patch, and that seems to cause all sorts of problems. One of my characters is completely unplayable now, with terrible framerates, constant video lock up, and save times that are up to 20 seconds of pause for a quicksave. The save file for that character is 122 mb. It seems that any more than like 5-7 mb is unnatural.

Exactly! it's freakin strange. I've checked my active effects and whatnot, it's definitely not coming from any kind of perk or anything like that. The only pattern I found is that, when outside, all my weapons increase in damage when facing east. And it will go back and forth, constantly depending on that. Those screenshots of the orcish sword were taken about half a second apart. I looked at inventory, damage 19. Closed inventory, turned right, opened inventory. Damage 26. After getting relevant perks (the armsman perk for +20% damage one-handed), All damage ratings on one handed weapons went up, but they still have the two options, that change based on the direction I'm facing (or at least seem to). The high and low possibilities both went up though.

At the end of my wits, Skyrim only crashes, it's impossible to pla
shmimbadad replied to Aredel's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
This is the second time I've seen this suggested on these forums, and I didn't get an answer last time... My ini file doesn't have a papyrus section. Should I just make one, and put those lines in? Edit: just found, I did get a reply in that other thread. Guess I'll give it a try. Also, to the TC, I've heard a lot about Skyrim being an extremely RAM hungry game, and getting more and more frequent CTDs with less RAM. Mine crashes pretty often, and I have 4gb of RAM. I've been told on other forums that it's damn near hopeless to run skyrim with any less than that (particularly since the latest patch). And even people with 6 gb or more have been having issues with skyrim eating it all up and wanting more. -
So I'm looking at this warhammer in my inventory. http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q632/chunkowookie/TESV2012-04-1803-34-39-42.jpg Then I turn to walk deeper into this dungeon, and decide to change my weapon. In my inventory, I notice this. http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q632/chunkowookie/TESV2012-04-1803-36-51-88.jpg Rather strange, and I've been noticing this happening with all my weapons lately. They just seem to randomly change damage. Every weapon has two possible damage ratings, and I couldn't find any pattern as to when it was changing. Until now. Getting outside, I started randomly checking my inventory every few seconds, and finally noticed that when I face north, west, or south... http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q632/chunkowookie/TESV2012-04-1803-40-02-05.jpg But when facing east... http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q632/chunkowookie/TESV2012-04-1803-40-09-18.jpg This happens with every weapon in my inventory, including bows, and arrows. I haven't tested to see if I am notably more effective in combat when facing the sunrise, but I suspect that I am. Any ideas what's doing this? Or how to fix it?

I've been getting this too, it also seems to happen almost every time if I go through a door or gate with a loading screen, and then try to go back through the same door. I don't have a papyrus section in my ini file.. Should I just put one there and stick those lines in?

save game size increasing at extreme rate
shmimbadad replied to WOTmodsproductions's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I got this too. I've only ever played on version 1.5, and I have a few mods. I started to notice super long save times, and a complete video lock up every minute or so. The lock up eventually got to be 10-15 seconds each, and up to 20 seconds to do a quicksave (ha!). That character has 93 hours, and the save file is up to 122 mb. yeah. 122. I started a new character, and the initial save as "prisoner" was 3.5 mb. Since then, the new guy has a little over 10 hours, and the save file has been bouncing between 4 and 4.5 mb for the last 10 saves, so it seems stable. For now. If anyone finds a way to fix this, that would be amazing. I'd hate to just have my new character unplayable later on, too, and I'd really like to play my old one again. -
Hmm. Well I'll keep an eye on it, and try to find a pattern as to when it changes. If it's a patch bug I haven't seen it until yesterday, and I've been on 1.5 since it came out.

So, i just noticed something kind of strange today, that may have been going on for longer, and I didn't notice, but whatever. The damage rating for my weapons, as displayed in the inventory screen, seem to be randomly changing. I'm not sure, but it seems like every weapon has 2 different possible damage ratings, and I can't find any pattern as to when they display either one. It also seems that there is always a difference of 17 points between the possible damages, for two handed weapons, and 8 for one handed. For instance, I've been using a skyforge steel two handed sword, and earlier, I equipped it, and it's damage said 67. Then about 10 minutes later, I'm looking through my inventory, and now it says 50. I found an orcish warhammer in a chest, and it said 70 damage while it was in the chest. I took it, then went to my inventory to equip it, and it's at 53. And it's not just vanilla weapons either. I have a Knight's Sword from the jaysus swords mod, and it bounces between 26 and 34 damage. I don't think I have any perks or anything that would effect that. But I can't be sure of that. This new character is a redguard, which I'm not familiar with, having played two other characters, which were both nords. Am I just stupid and missing something? or is this another bug of some kind?

Yeah dude. That's what I hate about steam. That's why my steam is always in offline mode, except when I turn on online mode, specifically because I'm going to let everything update. As long as it stays in offline mode, it can't automatically start updates, so you can keep playing. Once an update starts, you won't be playing that game again til it finishes. If you're using a laptop, go find somewhere with free wifi and hang out til the update finishes. If you're on a desktop, i guess you'll just have to put it on that data plan.

Yeah. I don't have any old saves for this character. Wasn't exactly expecting something like this. Damn bethesda and their lack of proper bug checking. I was reading the the ps3 version was getting this exact same problem, and they put out a patch for it, which a lot of people have claimed didn't work, but they haven't even acknowledged that this is happening in the pc version.
-
I started searching around google for mentions of a save file bug, and have found that there is a huge uproar about a bug in the ps3 version of skyrim, causing save files to suddenly start spiking in size until it causes the game lag horribly. I (and at least a few other people on these forums) have been getting this exact same problem with the pc version now. Apparently, save files are supposed to be right around 10mb, and, my new save from a game I just started today is still there, but my other game, which is many many hours in, has spiked up from 10mb to well over 100mb in just the last couple days. Along with that, has come near game-breaking lag, and excessively long save times (up to 10-15 second pauses for a quicksave). I've done plenty of testing with my mods, and have determined that it's not being caused by other of them. Is anyone else getting this? Apparently Bethesda has acknowledged the problem for the ps3 and has put out a fix. I think Bethesda should be aware that this is also affecting the PC version.

No Dialoge option to buy Proudspire Manor
shmimbadad replied to Dexter112's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Hmm. Yeah, I dunno. Skyrim still seems to be quite buggy. I had to use the console to force finish quest stages 3 separate times in the College of winterhold quests. And now my save file seems to be corrupted. I don't know if the two are connected, but they happened around the same time. -
Me too. Got the exact same thing. Along with excessively long save times (taking almost 10 seconds for a quicksave now). My save file spiked to over 100mb in the last couple days. Can't figure out why. No one seems to know.
-
OP: your computer should absolutely crush this game at full settings. I get good fps at mostly high settings (w/ medium shadows), and I've got an i5, 4gb ram and a 512mb video card. Or at least I used to. I have also recently started to get brutal in game lag. Have you also noticed longer save times? If so, check your save file and see how big it is. Apparently, they're supposed to be like 10mb or so, but mine have recently jumped up to over 100mb, which is definitely causing the lag and long save times. I started a new game, just to test, and it runs with no lag, and regular save times, and the save file is less than 10mb. I've been asking around, and no one seems to know how to fix this.
-
So it's definitely an issue with the save game. I just started a new game, got through the beginning to where I could save, and it saved in a split second, no problem, and the save file is less than 10mb. Also, the lag every minute or so was not there in the new game, either. Does anyone know how to fix this? I realize that the save files should get a bit bigger as there's more stuff, but over 100mb is completely excessive and obviously not normal. Also, that's got to be what's causing the lag and long save times. I would really hate to just have to stop playing my main guy and start a new game. Also, Bannor, you mentioned reducing body count? How do I do that? Looked through the .inis but didn't see anything that looked like that.
-
Did you recently go through the College of Winterhold quests?
-
Hmm. Yeah, I just found some people on the gamefaqs forums talking about a similar problem, but on the PS3 version of the game. Apparently the ps3 version has an issue where, eventually, there just gets to be too much stuff, and save files get huge, leading to lag. But they were saying that people were getting problems as soon as the save files broke 5mb. I'm up to 122mb now, also. Starting to really worry me. I don't have a bunch of backed up save files. I recently deleted a lot of them to clean up the list, so, if my save file is screwed up and unfixable... i'm out a character that's got well over 100 hours...

I don't think it's the 1.5 patch. I've been using 1.5 since since it came out. And my saves were just fine until a couple days ago. I had been using 1.5, with a decent amount of mods, too (added items, player homes, lighting and dof, new textures, etc.). Everything was fine, until I used the "unofficial skyrim patch", then I started getting the increased save times, and now, I'm seeing, huge save files, too (I just played a bit more, and my most recent save is up to 118mb now). But, I also got a huge framerate drop when I installed the unofficial patch, so I immediately got rid of it. I just had the single, .bsa file version of it, so I just deleted the couple files it came with, and my framerates went back to normal, but the save problem has stuck around. Also, coinciding with the save problem, I started getting a weird lag. Just a hitch where the whole game will freeze for a few seconds once every minute or so. Otherwise smooth framerates, just that little hitch. I think I'm going to have to just trial and error test all my mods, and see whats going on.
-
I don't know what's causing that, but it just gave me the idea to check my save file sizes, because I've been getting a problem with the game taking a long time to save. LIke 20 seconds to do a full save, and almost 10 for a quicksave. Just looked at my save files, and none of them are over 100 mbs, but they're mostly 50-60. the smallest one is 40mb. Which does seem really big. Especially since you said most of your older ones were around 10. I also have to wonder what's going on there.
