  1. The reasons why are myriad and Colt and the Pentagon were both culpable. From going to a dirtier burning power for a faster cyclic rate which increased fouling and jams, to deciding against corrosion resistant interior finishes, never mind the issuance of one barrel rod per seven or so men and it's criminal that these people were never brought on trial. Eugene Stoner wasn't a moron, he intended his weapon to use a clean burning powder to reduce fouling to the bare minimum and what made it worse was that Colt knew that the ball powder they had shifted to would cause the weapons to fail during QC at their factory and obtained permission to use the stick powder that Stoner had designed the rifle around. That said, Hogdon and Olin, the primary manufacturers of ball propellant reduced the fouling caused in small bore rifles (some suggested using magnum primers to increase the amount of powder burnt) back in the 70's and weren't exactly in the know about the issues of M16. That said, I've met men who served in the early days of Vietnam with the original issue of the M16 who think of it as an overpriced club versus the men who served at the tail end who fanatically love the weapon system after changes were made to improve the rifle around 68. The concept of the modular LMG is intriguing, though the Stoner 63 had a few issues, one that caused an accidental discharge (not to be confused with negligence...most unintended discharges are an act of negligence) that caused one SEAL to lose his life after a 63 was knocked over and simply became a runaway gun. This caused a redesign of the safety/sear. Personally, having built my own ARs for a few years now and having also experienced and owned some of the wonderful world of arms from across the pond, I think we should have listened to the Brits and FN when they tried to sell us on the FN FAL in .280 but we were still developing out "Experimental" .30 caliber cartridge, later to be named the 7.62x51. This forced FAL to stretch their design to the limit and lead us to adopt the inferior M14 (yeah, someone is going to mail me death threats, but it's just a fact) because we were terrified of buying a foreign rifle; not to mention it lead to the British developing the Enfield Bullpup which is just a craptastic AR-18 (I'm going to say that this was not Stoner's finest design) that has had a slew of problems, even after a redesign by HK.
  2. @ Exacerblast Let me know. Maybe my worthless knowledge wouldn't be quite so worthless in this instance. No, in all seriousness I have no problem helping a talented modder show off his skills.
  3. It would be pretty groovy is some surplus (IE WWI and WWII era autos) made their way into Fallout 4 as a weapon pack. It seems to be agreed upon that there was a split and a deviation from history after WWII, though how soon after is anyone's guess. I mean clearly, Kalashnikov still developed his namesake weapon and Eugene Stoner still made the AR family of weapons, even the Browning Hi-Power (BHP) clearly was modified in 1962 with an external extractor...so I feel that weapons from circa the mid to late 60's and back are fair game for modders as they don't technically break the lore of the franchise. Even the Officer Model 1911 from Fallout New Vegas fits as the earliest "officer" models were chop jobs issued to general's as a sort of swagger stick in that day and age. I've wanted to see things like a Sig 210 and high quality variants of the P38, C96 Broomhandle, 1908 Luger, Colt 1902, S&W 39/59, Colt New Army Model, and others for quite some time. Sure, they aren't as sexy as a Sig P226 or Operator fabulous as a G19 or HK; however, they are far less immersion breaking (to me...I know this is subjective) and they would just sort of fit the flavor of the game a little more precisely. Edit: Love to see Makarovs, Tokarevs, and Nagant revolvers too.
  4. Gotta say that I don't know that an SAA or for that matter any older style wheelgun (or most handguns for that matter) need an optic...well, okay, an RDS because that's getting pretty popular but primarily on carry and duty guns. I guess making it an option if it trips someone's trigger isn't all bad, but I kind of wonder over bolting 8 pounds of crap on a weapon that already weights 2-3 pounds loaded, especially something as ancillary as a sidearm. It could be a highly practical streak or the fact that I also only play on survival mode; however, adding weight to a weapon that you have to carry all day just makes zero sense to my person. Travel light and freeze at night is also a motto I'm well and familiar with. But back to the model...just wow. I'm not a wheelgun guy (In the real world I'll take a Sig or CZ, please and thank you), but to be honest that's a damn fine looking model. Even the pins seem to be in the right place and the old school bluing looks eerily real. That was my one gripe about the Colt Python mod. The bluing just didn't persuade me, especially since Colt had the prettiest damn blued guns on the market once upon a time. The secret involved a number of steps, including dipping the parts in boiling gasoline (twas the early 1900s) before putting the guns on the bluing racks for hours. So just bravo sir, bravo.
  5. ^Looking good^ If you ever want detailed pics of an HK, I just acquired an MKE AT43 (high quality and licensed Turkish CETME built with HK tooling and machines) if you ever want to take a crack at that (I jest, know that you're a busy fellow).
  6. Looking nice and clean. Can't hardly wait.
  7. Has anyone told you what a marvelous human being you are? That's pretty slick. Just my two cents (which thanks to inflation is virtually worthless: it'd be nice if it was kept within the realm of wood and steel. Much as I don't hate Polymer and the like, it tends to be immersion breaking since so many weapons in Fallout are designed around a historical paradigm shift. I can already imagine mowing down ferals with an AC556 and pitying the fool. Just to keep it lore friendly as well, perhaps some backstory: this was the popular semi-automatic sporting rifle of its day that also found favor among some survivalist, militias, and police departments after it failed to win the government contract as a service rifle right before the bombs fell. That can help explain the variations in the models (you know, the standard Mini-14 versus the AC556). They're durable, lightweight, and hence you tend to run across them in some of the cabins, among Minutemen, some raiders, as well as caravan guards. Nothing set in stone but it's nice to keep it lore friendly.
  8. That's a sexy looking Galil. I owned a CAI import model that was sadly a big headache and after dumping about 400 dollars into a shoddy import (real Galils rock; however, Century Arms International is a company with a dubious history of putting in low quality parts and taking shortcuts to meet ATF compliance) I gave up but I love the look of the platform. I love how prominently it was featured in the early seasons of Strike Back up to and including quad-rails and variable optics being prominently used. Well, these were Vektor R5s which are merely South African made Galils to get around import restrictions during the apartheid era. http://www.imfdb.org/images/thumb/5/5b/Strikebackpd-R5-2.jpg/600px-Strikebackpd-R5-2.jpg http://www.imfdb.org/images/thumb/1/19/Strikebackpd-R5-6.jpg/600px-Strikebackpd-R5-6.jpg http://www.imfdb.org/images/thumb/0/07/SBS3-R5-6.jpg/600px-SBS3-R5-6.jpg My only request, regardless of if it is an FNC, FAL, or Galil that the optics and accessories aren't immersion breaking. I cannot say as to why, but when I see what is clearly an Aimpoint, Elcan, Eotech, Trijicon, or other present day optic or accessory it just sort of ruins the experience for me because it just doesn't fit with the game and its aesthetic. I feel a Galil or FNC would fit into the game world better than a SCAR or an AUG or 416 as it were.
  9. Plus they come in a cool array of calibers. You could do the Mini 30 in 7.62 and the 14 in 223, 300 blackout, or in 6.8 SPC like my personally owned Mini 14. Here's my 6.8 that I purchased used (the crappy optic and foregrip that the seller mounted on it is being replaced because TruGlo is garbage and no self-respecting infantryman would mount that foregrip on his heater) http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r512/Mkodadek/001.jpg?1493135974592&1493135986869 http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r512/Mkodadek/004.jpg?1493135974592&1493135986869 The nice part is that the platform has become pretty modular so any modder interested can use it as a basis for anything from a handy and light rifle for short to medium engagements, a DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle) variant using an accustrut (device similar to what you see mounted under the barrel of an M14 that stabilizes the barrel), even the Morita rifles in Starship Troopers were AC556s in Muzzlelite bullpup stocks with Ithaca 37 shotgun mounted underneath, so it's pretty versatile and allows you to go from wild to mild. And above here's a nice picture of an AC55 and the selector lever (I'm all about details).
  10. An FNC or a Galil would be pretty legit.
  11. USSRCJAK47, you mean the storied and rarified select fire AC556? If someone was so kind they could make a Mini-14 mod and make that model a unique weapon. Love me some A-team.
  12. I would just like to second this motion. Sounds like it would be a real blast, plus I do survival mode so it would absolutely make traveling more rewarding.
  13. Few more pics. Anyone interested get a hold of me and I'll be happy to provide more photos and context.
  14. I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in making a lore friendly Mini 14 style rifle in the vein of the "Service Rifle" from Fallout NV (M16) or the R91 (G3/CETME), Chinese Assault Rifle or Handmade Rifle (AK-47/74) dubbing it the Survival Rifle in honor of its affiliation with survivalists and preppers alike (hell, I own a model in 6.8 SPC II). It would provide a nice alternative from the tacticool rifles everyone makes without being immersion breaking (which is why I like the M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, BAR, and other similar mods that are a throwback to weapons of the style and era and I feel that the Mini would do so without breaking the immersion and besides, at there are a host of aftermarket accessories and finishes you can get positively medieval with aftermarket stocks, optics, rails, and the like and you could even make a unique variant based on the AC556 (fully automatic variant) plus you could populate Fallout with both .223 and 7.62x39 variants of the rifle integrated with the see through sight mods. Suggested Mods: Receivers: The standard gamut of standard through improved Barrels: Short: improved hip fire Long: Improved sighted accuracy, reduced hip rife accuracy Short Stabilizied: Long Stabilized: Wooden Stock: Standard stock Synthetic Stock: Provides a simple weight reduction Underfolding Stock: Improved hip fire and Recoil control based on the old AC556 stock. Tactical Stock: The Clyde Armory Scar Stock, better hip-fire accuracy, better recoil control, added weight due to the steel quad rail. Marksman Stock: The Promag Archangel Precision Stock, improved sighted accuracy, superior recoil control, increased weight, reduced hip fire accuracy Standard Sights: Pretty Obvious, just iron sights. Glow Sights: Improved accuracy. Reflex Sights (with options for forward or rear mounting) Combat Sight 2x through 4X (your standard ACOG style, could use the model from the Handmade Rifle) Scout Optic 4-8X: Forward mounted optic with long eye relief providing increased accuracy. Low-High magnification day and night optics as well. Low Capacity Mag and Quick Mag: 10 rounds Medium Capacity Mag and Quick Mag: 20 Rounds Standard Capacity Mag and Quick Mag: 30 Rounds High Cap Magazine: 40 Rounds Stainless or Blued Finish (cosmetic) Muzzle Devices: Muzle Brake Compensator Suppressor (pretty standard)
  15. I've been playing FO4 on survival mode using 2284 Gas Masks of the Common Wealth and Subway runner (a marriage made in heaven), and I was wondering if any of you modding geniuses could build/expand the Boston sewer system to accommodate us lowly spelunkers.
  16. I meant not* integrally suppressed. Apologies. Still, KAC made prototypes with and without stocks...so it would involve a suppressor and then the option of a stock and for end kit (just me personally but I think wood with blue tape to keep with the Fallout flavor)
  17. It is an actual weapon designed by KAC (Knight's Armament Corporation) in the cold war era. Certain agencies and units wanted a rifle capable of being used accuratelybas an antipersonnel weapon out to a hundred meters out, but they also requested that the weapon leave no cartridges or physical evidence. Thus KAC went to customizing a Ruger revolver with an integral suppressor, a new cylinder with a gap so minimal between the cylinder and the forcing cone as to make suppression possible along with a specialized cartridge necked down to .30 caliber specifically designed to create a gas seal as well (revolvers being difficult to suppress due to a lack of gas seal owing to the cylinder gap). http://www.mythicarmory.com/kac-silenced-revolver-rifle.html http://www.rugertalk.com/The-Super-Silent-Super-Secret-Ruger-Redhawk-Rifle.html Mythic armory has some rather excellent pictures. I sadly know jack about nodding but I would wager that you are correct. Most of the assets are already in existence; and the current revolver would make a fine host (plus am I the only one who feels like the .44 gets zero nodding love)
  18. I'm just wondering if anyone has considered making mods to the .44 Magnum revolver to convert it into something similar to the KAC revolver rifle? Just a humble request/suggestion, but I don't think that you could go wrong here.
