  1. Well, I do apologize for the typo. Well, as I said, prejudice based on cultural and any other differences is nothing new. It is human nature to differentiate oneself and project what is normal/familiar to one to judge the rest/others. I was specifically speaking in regards to our modern notion of "racism" as it evolved a few centuries ago from around the time of European Imperialism, which placed a much higher notion one physical traits, especially the color of ones skin. While the English/French Normans discriminated against the Anglo-Saxons in many ways, it was not in the form of a modern "Apartheit", but much more on simply a cultural, political and mostly class base. The Norman,Anglo-Saxon,Scandinavian etc nobilities and royalties were all pretty much intermarried and idenfified much more with eachother than their countryman from a lower class.
  2. Never had any of those problems either and I play it on ultra with hd pack etc. My computer is not an Alienware, but when Skyrim was coming, my old computer was falling apart, so I spend about $1,500.00 and a lot of time putting together a computer specifically intended for gaming, lots of it. Can't really just buy a computer off the shelf, unless its a gaming computer, and have/expect it to run a game like Skyrim very smoothly.
  3. It's kinda funny hearing these comments about rather starring/looking at a female's ass for hundreds of hours than males, especially when referring to a game. Besides the fact that this is a game. Do people really just sit there infront of the computer and stare at their toons/characters ass? I mean, I have playerd for over 350 hours by now, both in first and third person, but I absolutly do not recall my characters/toons ass, whatsoever. I am sure that I saw it at some point, I would have had to when running in third person, but for that to be the PRIMARY decision for choosing your character's gender is a bit sad. If that's the case, you should probably have spent the money on getting out there and picking up a girl and if that seems to unattainable of an undertaking just get some free porn online;). Note: This is in gerads to this specific comment that I keep reading. Other than that, I totally understand, as previously mentioned in a post, when people roleplay and create different character/storylines for different genders.
  4. Interesting topic. Quite educational, too! Not sure why so many people are being so defensive in regards to the topic. Don't like it? Move on! There are plenty of threads I don't like and thus stay away from. I remember when WOW had just come out and I had also just really started getting into the online gaming community. I joined a guild, which was pretty small and most people were inactive or something, so there were only a few of us that really participated did quests/dungeons toghether etc. I spent the most time with these two "female characters" in the game, only after months to find out that those were actually guys. Needless to say, I was freaked out. Couldn't decide if they were old pervs or little nerdy guys with no real life, that did not get much out or get laid. At least that is what I thought at that time. Going through these replies/comments shows a totally different perspective. At the end that is really all it is about, perspective. Some people like to create a character, that is not them, and immerse that character in that world(game) and play that way. Other people, like myself, like to project themselves into this fantasy world(game) and experience it that way. That's also were most of the missunderstanding comes from. When I learned, for the first time, about guys palying chicks. I looked at it from my perspective, which to me meant that those dude's were playing/trying to be chicks. When in reality, all they were doing was creating a female character, just like a character in a movie or book. Note: There certainly are some little nerds out there that dont get out much and do it for the reasons initially mentioned
  5. It's interesting that so many people say that they want something really different and new, but then lament about the empire. I really hope, depending on how far in the future the next installment would take place, that the empire is a thing of the past and that there is a new world order. The Dominion would be around, since they were on the rise when the empire was collapsing, but besides them there could be several other unique nations, cultures and empires. Hammerfall is in some sort of conflict with their neighbours, the Dominion. Skyrim is on the rise and the offensive, going into High Rock. Dunmber a recovering and fighting of their invaders etc. Just think that this would make the setting of Tamriel much more interesting to whatever the main plot of the next installment would be. Just my thoughts.
  6. I agree there. Yeah, vampires are a nice side perk in the game, but what do they really have to do with he big picture and in regards with being Dragonborn. Especially with so much other potential material that can be covered, from the falmer and snow elves (solstheim) to the thalmor threat and civil war going on. And of course plenty of other lore in regards to the akaviri. Compared to that, running around as an Van Helsing or Dracula on steroids seems kind of shallow.
  7. I don't think that Bethesda themselves know, as of right now, what actually happened to the Dwemer. Actually, with a lot of lore, they just kind of make it so it fits, is convenient, with the current game/storyline they have and then later adjust it as they need to with different games that come out. Now, just playing Skyrim, there are so many gaps it the lore behind the ancient nords, dragons, etc, that many parts of the timeline just don't make sense.
  8. I agree in principle, although it's possible that none of the "main guilds" would object if you were also a member of the Bard's College. <sarcasm> After all, it isn't as though you actually learn how to sing, dance, play musical instruments, and compose/recite poetry there. </sarcasm> You still shouldn't be disallowed from interacting with some of those guilds, though. Just because I'm a Companion doesn't mean I don't need access to advanced spells, most of which can only be acquired through college mages, who won't sell them to you if you aren't a member of the college. Similarly, as a member of the College, I might do some "independent thievery" on my own, and they don't even need to know about it. Why should I have to join the Thieves Guild to use Vex as a fence? The guild needs money, so they need my business, whether I'm a member in good standing, or not. Honestly, though, I really doubt you'll see this happening in any future ES game. I think Bethesda has firmly rooted themselves into the philosophy that it's OK for them for them to railroad you into doing every single one of their "guild" questlines whether you want to or not. This is probably my biggest gripe with Skyrim, but is indicative of the increasing amount of hand-holding we've seen in ES games from Morrowind on. I'm fully expecting to see the next game come with periodic nags that pop up saying things like "You haven't joined the Thieves Guild yet!" Yes, more sarcasm, but let's face it. For a lot of us one of the most annoying things a game developer can do is to interleave missions so that you can't complete one without doing another one (that you might, for ethical/moral reasons, might not even want to do). Entanglement might be good for quantum physics. It's an extremely poor tactic in quest design. Thats the point. I am totally for having to go to the college to learn about magic, the elder scrolls and also to do some quests for/with them, but why do I automatically become an apprentice as soon as I walk into that place. Then, with every quest I progress in the ranks, even though I am a Nord warrior dressed in furs, leather with a two handed axe and face paint. My character is more likely to turn that main lecture hall of the college into a Mead Hall, then teach people about magic;) But yeah, for Bethesda its more about keeping people just involved in the quests, so they dont lose interest to early.
  9. I do agree, but not because of spoliers. More just to conflicting stroylines/philosphy. I become the leader of the companions, who try to stand for the values of warrios; honor, duty, glory etc. Then I turn around and become the leader of the thieves guild and the d. brotherhood, which stand for the opposite. So, either you have to kill part of your roleplayer or forgo a bunch of quests with that certain character. Just think that Bethesda should have made it so that, if you play a warrior character (just example) and become the leader of the companions, you can still participate in the other guild storyline or quests (which can be altered) without being a full fledged memeber or leader.
  10. Racism isn't always hate-towards-race. It's claiming differences in race, or differences in race matter. This kind of racism isn't malicious or even intentional at times, but it's noticed because it leaves someone with a short straw for no other reason than their race. In this case, black people don't have a heart. and I don't think anyone is seriously upset, but it's kinda funny and bothersome at the same time. The amount of "Skyrim is for the Nazis!" crap inside of the game does get a little unnerving, especially since there's no "THATS RACIST!" option to most of it. "Skyrim is for the Nazis"? I think you are letting you imagination/paranoia run wild by combining some innocent in game content with some of you personal problems/insecurities. Also, since the concept of racism is a rather modern construct, while Skyrim/TES and its lore are more based on ancient/medieval times, it would not really make sense to have an option like "Thats racist". Maybe "thats prejudist", but thats about it.
  11. Windhelm, just something unique about it. Also like Falkreath and Dawnstar.
  12. Never realy thought of Ulfric being racist or somehow evil before coming to these forums. I dont recall him saying one think throghout the stormcloak questline that could be really interpreted as being blatantly racist. Only, in response to his steward, he says that he has more pressing things than to deal with the dark elves' problems, as the civil war is going on. That might show that he is not very empathetic to them, but not racist. To many people get so easily offended these days and just love to throw around the racist argument, when they have no better way of making a point. Other than that he just talks about being tired of seeing his countryman dying on far away battlefileds in the name of an empire that is not really theirs anymore. Which makes sense. The aldmeri really never threatened Skyrim(think geography), only Cyrodil and the southern parts of the empire. After the imperials got heir a.. kicked, it was a norhern army, form Skyrim, that came down and defeated the Aldmery army and then the imperials in order to safe themselves sold out Hammerfell and the most important norhern deity. At the end of the day, its far more clear that the empire(really imperials) need skyrim more then skyrim needs them. Skyrim was its own empire before and can be so again. The only reason they ever joined this empire was do to Talos, being the aspect of Ysmir, the dragon of the north. The same goes for the Stormcloaks. Dont really se how they are racist by wanting self rule and to preserve their traditions. The only real racist is that drunk in Windhelm, who is not even a real stormcloak soldier. Besides him, the most prejudice person in Windhelm is Viola Giraldano (probably misspelled it), who is not even a Nord but an imperial. The case in regards to Windhelm has less to do with Stormcloak racism and much more with just the city having a large immigrant population and thus some ethic tensions, which is quite normal with the historic realtions of the two species. But even in Windhelm, most of the Nords dont have anything against the dark elves, while still supporting Ulfric and the Stormcloaks. Also, people keep mentioning how the Kajit are not allowed into the Windhelm. What about Whiterun, where the Kahjits also have to stay outside, even during Balgruffs rule, whom everybody loves so much. The same with Markarth, while still supporting the empire.
