  1. SOLVED Turns out the new CPU came with a cooling unit that is completely unsuited for gaming. I have a powerful new one now, and the crashing has stopped altogether. Still want to thank everyone who thought along with me and tried to help :)
  2. The parts were ordered and mounted by a long time family friend, he's been our computer guy for 20+ years and I trusted him completely with the work. I'm visiting home for mother's day so I'll be bringing my computer, he wants to take a look at it and make sure I get it functioning as it should.
  3. I'm running off an internal SSD-M2. Do you know how to include a screenshot on this forum? I took a few screenies of the overlapping problem. Incidently I'm getting crashes on Tropico 6 and Sims 3, too.
  4. Ugh, here we go again. It went well, then I started getting black screen after half an hour. Tried to play again, then some 20/30 minutes later I got this weird menu glitch while crafting alchemy, with overlapping items and overlapping pointer arrows, and the image of a campfire over my quest menu? Completely glitched out. Wut? EDIT: And a THIRD, this time a CTD after 40 minutes, again while doing alchemy, but without the graphical glitch.
  5. Okay, so I checked my windows and driver updates, deleted the ini's and tried again. So far, so good! I think I'm 2+ hours into this save without CTD's or other issues, except that Faendal was dead on arrival in Riverwood (great start to a game), but sheoth happens. Thank you everyone for helping me out. At risk of jinxing this, I think it's fixed, now.
  6. I'm running a 6 GB, so should be up to the task. I just downloaded the driver from the NVIDIA website and installed it, though the one I had installed before that was from 23-4 this year, not exactly the stone ages. I'm running the game at my own screen res (1920x1080). I didn't realise you had to select your card manually? Always assumed it just picked up on your card. Anyway it did the whole benchmark thing it does and selected ultra quality. I haven't tried to delete my ini's, didn't realise that was a thing, and anyway I just got started downloading and installing the game on this new system. I could try that, though. Right now I'm doing a trial run with only SKSE and SKYUI, nothing else, vanilla Helgen intro, to see how long I make it. I figure if it goes for more than an hour without crashing then the updates must have done their magic. EDIT: Just deleted my Ini's, going to resume play, hopefully it holds up now.
  7. HAVE TO NOTE: I only upgraded memory, motherboard and CPU, NOT my graphics card (Geforce GTX 1060), so wouldn't that be the same driver-wise? I did go and download the newest driver and installed it, so I hope this helps, haven't gotten to try it out yet, still troubleshooting every other freaking game I've installed since.
  8. I'm going to have to try and get my drivers checked out then. I have to confess I can be severely digitally illiterate when it comes to some things, but I do try to fix what I can and reach out when I'm stuck. And if I really can't figure it out then I don't mess with it. For that reason I keep my mod list minimal and restricted to simple to install mods. My dad suggested trying a different game first and if there are any issues, it might be drivers. If not, it might be something with the game, I just don't know what. Tropico 6 also crashed after 15-some minutes of messing around with it.
  9. I just tried playing without mods and my computer BSOD'd. Second time it's done that, by the way, it also did this yesterday. I don't think this has anything to do with modding anymore. Why can't I even play a damn-near factory settings game? Why?
  10. Just tried again without the Hunterborn - Leather Tanning esp and got yet another CTD in Whiterun while opening the gates to leave the city. You guys, I swear, there's no rhyme or reason to this. I'm now down to: Master files USSEP Campfire Sky UI iNeed The Choice is Yours Skyrim Unbound Racemenu iHud Hunterborn This doesn't strike me as a heavy conflicting mod list?
  11. Okay, to keep it short, I have upgraded my PC and reinstalled SSE, and started redownloading all the tools and mods I used on a long term, stable play through; mods that shouldn't cause problems. I checked the upload date of all the mods I downloaded and wether or not I'd downloaded them in the past, to avoid version problems. I never got along with Vortex or other mod installer programs, just can't figure it out, so I manually downloaded the mods and installed them from file with NMM. I cleaned all my master files with SSEEDIT, sorted with LOOT, used practically an identical mod list to the one I always used, and didn't try to do anything weird with the game, just to start carefully. Places where I've CTD's in just a few hours of troubleshooting and playing: The cooking pot outside of Riverwood just as I'm trying to use it The hills between Riverwood and Whiterun Whiterun square as I'm approaching from the gate Further into the hills, near the bridge to Riverwood In other words, it's completely random. Now I did have problems getting SKYUI to play nice with the Frostfall and Campfire fix, so I uninstalled those mod fixes and just made so with Campfire alone. Still crashing. I keep trimming and paring my mods trying to identify the culprit but it doesn't help. I'm now down to this load order, coming back from ANOTHER CTD: The masters in their proper order USSEP BSA Assets (Bruma and its plugins, only the official files) BS heartland BS_DLC_patch Campfire SKY_UI_SE (5.2 which has been out for 2+ years now) Obsidian Weathers OneWithNature iNeed Ineed extended You Hunger TheChoiceisYours Skyrim Unbound Racemenu Racemenu plugin iHud Cloaks (of Skyrim) Brigandage Container and Arrow Weight restriction 1nivWICCloaks (Winter is coming) Cloaks - Dawnguard Hunterborn Hunterborn Leather tanning (requiring animal fat to tan, I never used to have this installed so might be worth trying to take out?) Hunterborn Campfire patch Hunterborn iNeed patch I used QUASPIC to ensure everything was patched and compatible with each other. I use SKSE 64 2_00_19 What in Sithis name am I doing wrong? I'm out of ideas here. If anyone has an idea I'd be really thankful.
  12. I figured that, but I'm not sure yet how much is too much. I've heard some people say to worry when your files get over 10'ish MB, while others claim to be at 30+ MB and have no issues. Mine started after 10 and became unbearable between 13/15 MB. What kinds of sizes or increments are normal, and which would you consider alarming? I had one mod take my saves from 6 to 9 in less than 2 days of playtime, and fairly early in the game too. I was around level 18/20 when I figured it out. When I did it was a lot of work to get the game to work without it. They went back down to 6 (so it was clearly that one mod) but the save was still irreparably damaged.
  13. Okay, I might have to check that one out, then (MO, that is). I remember having had to download a patch for Sounds and Climates, but I must have managed because LOOT was happy afterwards. I guess I still worry about accidently downloading the next Crimson Tide, or this rabbit mod that made my game bloat like crazy and completely borked it up.
  14. Hello cowgirl, From the way you capitalize Mod Organizer I take it you don't mean just any one organizer? Because I've been using NMM since I started with mods in the first place. I have used TES5EDIT for cleaning the game files. LOOT didn't have anything to say about the mods I am currently running, but would you advocate cleaning them anyway? I have heard the saying 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' with regards to mods. I do use SKSE, and LOOT considers it up to date. I downloaded the game a year ago, so it's as shiny and up to date as 'Oldrim' gets. I think the reason most of my mods are either simple texture/weapon mods or (when they use scripts) reknowned in Nexus is a bit of paranoia that still isn't gone yet. On the one hand I hope it settles so I can get as fully immersed as I used to be, but on the other hand it's keeping me sharp and pushing me to explore every way to prevent horribly mucking up again. I have also downloaded the SKSE ini for lazy users. Like most steps I've taken, I try to tackle what I feel like I understand on the most basic level. A lot of what I read on Nexus sounds like a secret code sometimes, so I laud those who have really dummied it down so that I can take basic steps. Right now the game is running smooth as butter, certainly compaired to when textures were going out of whack 30 minutes in, and at the worst point I couldn't so much as fast travel without CTD'ing. Yeah, it was that bad. I'd rather settle on a relatively un-tricked out game than repeating my mistakes.
  15. Also, I've heard tinkering with the game's timescale could cause problems below a certain level. Would it be safe to change the timescale from 20 to 15 (in time with 4 > 3 need decay)? I would love a much slower crawl game but not at the cost of stability. I've already gone to Belethor's around 3/4 PM and found it locked up so that tells me even a relatively modest 15 is not without consequence.
