I am also noticing that the game itself will not start when using Steam. CTD every time. However if I use the 'FOSE' start option via Mod Manager, the game runs fine. I'm sure this is relevant, but I am not sure how as of yet.

But not really... So, this am I completed getting my new GOTY editiion up and running with my mods installed. I went through the Liberty Prime content after many freezes or CTD, and some murmered expletives. Fight my way to the control room, eliminate Col. Autumn and his buddies, etc... I start the purifier and watch the cutscene. Once that is over, I am now in the purifier room with unresponsive controls. I cannot move, or do anything really save make wheezing/gasping noises by pressing 'e'. It looks like the game is stuck. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thank you for your response :) I started the process this am after monitoring the thread for awhile yesterday. Unfortunately, it seems I may have made some errors. I've already uninstalled my Original FO3 version, and ran CCleaner. However, it's likely that I have a backed up copy in my portable drive that I can use for the merging that you described in your post. It may well reduce the amount of reconstituting I have to do. So I'll try that. Apparently, this is a Steam download. So it's putting all of the relevant files into it's apps folder. I'll now have to find a way to point NMM to it. Hopefully, it will simply be a matter of closing and running it again. Either way, I have a long morning ahead of me. I wish I would have seen your post sooner, Jazzisparis :P

Hello, I have a copy of FO3, the original on my pc installed, playable, and heavily modded. This afternoon I purchased a download from Game Stop Online for the GOTY Edition. Before I do this download, I was hoping to receive some guidance involving preserving my saved games and mods. I'm trying to avoid a many hours long 'do over'. Is there a method I can use to keep my saved games and mods intact to port over to the GOTY Edition I am about to install?

Cool. Found a pretty good deal at Game Stop for an online download. Still trying to figure out how to save my mods/saved games adequately. I'd hate to have to reinstall everything. Any suggestions from the knowledgeable?

I've noticed that during peak times the default response when attempting to download files is that which you mention. To resolve this issue personally, I've attempted the download at a later time. This seems to work everytime for me.

I'd appreciate any advice from folks who may have done this before (replacing the game with the Steam version while keeping mods/saves) - or folks who just know how this is done without creating new issues.

Mornin' Back in the day, I purchased a physical copy of Fallout3 from my local game shop. I've had this copy of the game for quite a while now, and still enjoy playing it. Never finished it though, as I am not keen on the game simply ending. My default save game is in front of Sarah Lyons with her impatiently waiting for me to get it together to do Take it Back. I've been looking in Steam recently and noticed that they have a reasonbly priced GOTY Edition. Originally, I was just going to purchase Broken Steel and have some fun with that, but it seems that the physical copy of the main game I possess and Broken Steel from Steam do not play ball. Steam tells me I must buy the main game from them even though I physically own a copy that sits on my desk. So, I figure if I have to buy the game from them I mind as well buy the GOTY with all DLC's. Now for my questions and pleas for help... I have this game installed, and it is modded via Nexus/FOMM. I'm trying to figure out a way to purchase this game (thus gaining the dlc's), and not ruining my saved game and mods. Is there a way to do this without compromising the mods/saved games I currently have?

I went ahead and swapped back to V2, which does work fine using the tip you described. I figure instead of fretting about my robotic henchmen I'd just go to a previous save and go regain them. Small price to pay really :)

Noted. One question though - if I swap the versions out as you've recommended will I lose my army of robot henchmen?

Hello again. I thought I'd update this and mention that following removing V2, and going with V1 of RobCo Certified, the game runs just fine. The advice I'd recieved regarding V2 pointing to a DLC I do not possess was right on target. Thanks again for that advice. I'm genuinely confused regarding the post stating that I need to uninstall Archive Invalidation Invalidated. I'd read somewhere that it worked better separately from the Mod Manager. Wish I could recall exactly where, but it was somewhere in this forum...

I see. It appears then since I've dowonloaded a mod that references a DLC I don't have - this is where the problem lies? That's a shame as I only currently have the vanilla game and seem to remeber fiddiling around with that mod when I was last playing Fallout 3. I'll check back and see if I can find a version that doesn't have DLC requirements. Thank you for making that clearer for me.

Hello, I know this entry may be easily categorized as redundant. I've done a lot of searching in the troubleshooting area however. And while I've found ways to resolve other problems, this one is new and persists. That said, I recently decided to start playing Fallout3 again. In that vein, I've reinstalled things and such. Vanilla game was working well. I have Nexus Mod Manager, which I use for Skyrim. And decided to go ahead and have some fun with some of the cool looking mods found in the Nexus Forums. To date, I've installed the following mods: Dragonskin Tactical Outfit (This worked fine with no issues whatsoever) I started running into problems when I attempted to use RobCo Certified. This mod is now installed and the game will not start either through FOSE or the regular launcher. It will CTD while trying to bring up the main menu page. There were a few other mods I tried as well, but I have since deleted them alltogether in attempts to narrow down the problem. Now, if I deactivate RobCo Certified, I can start FOSE or regular launcher with no issue. The same was true for other mods I'd downloaded before I deleted them from NMM (Nexus Mod Manager). Through doing some reading in this section of the forums, I learned that I needed Archive Invalidation Invalidated, Games for Windows Live Disabler, and FOMS (fallout mods sorter). All of these utilities are installed and running. I had Dragonskin Tactical Outfit installed at this time and working fine. Since attempting to experiment with other mods I get consistent CTD whenever they are enabled/activated. So I took another look through things tonight and noticed that there was mention of changing an ini file, which I did. I've also deactivated and reactivated Archive Invalidation Invalidated in an attempt to resolve the issues I am having. Though I am currently at a loss regarding what to do at this point. Aside from the main .esm file, I have very little loaded onto the mod manager. the list reads: Fallout 3 .esm Companion Core .esm RobCo Certified V2 .esm Dragonskin Tactical Outfit .esp Companion Core DLC Addon .esp RobCo Certified V2 Zeta Addon .esp RobCO Certified V2 Version Updater .esp There isn't much there right now. I kept the list small to allow me to ensure things are functional as I add new things via mods. This is a strategy that has worked for me in the past. I'd appreciate an assist if possible folks. I'm not sure what's wrong.

Are there perhaps issues with patching that could be a problem? While researching this insofar, I've seen mention of patches going up to 1.8. Since I've redownloaded the game yesterday, is there a place I can go to which would offer the most recent patch?

Sigh... Still getting CTD on startup. However the behavior has changed. Running SKSE it appears that I can select the option to start a new game. However, while the game is loading (getting tooltips on my screen) it does a CTD. I still can't figure out what the problem is. Additionally the TES5Edit 3.0.28 utility is no longer showing any errors. Help?

I have a question though for the more experienced. Are these errors indicating somehow that because I am starting a new game with no progress the changes are out of order - thereby causing a fatal exception?

Still doing some investigation, but it appears so far that The Dance of Death requires both Dawnguard.esm and Dragonborn.esm to function. Since I have neither packs installed this indeed was part of the problem. I am however still experiencing CTD whenever attempting to start the game using SKSE. Since I prefer to run the game with my mods I have not yet attempted again to run the game using the standard launcher. This is odd because I know I had this mod installed and working in my previous game. I'm guessing it's been updated. Nonetheless I am still experiencing CTD when attempting to run the game using either the SKSE loader, or the SKSE option in the Mod Manager. Could still use some help narrowing this down...

Hello, I am looking for help with my installation. Recently, I had no choice but to wipe my drive and reinstall my OS due to some Windows problems. That's another tale for sure. But today I reinstalled my Skyrim Game onto the pc. For the past few hours I have been installing what I can recall of the mods I was using. That included the following: The Nexus Mod Manager - Most current version as of today. SKSE - Most current version as of today. Rayek's End The Dance of Death Triss' Armor Retextured Cerwiden, Intelligent Companion Achieve That! Apacchi's Skyhair, New Hairstyles for Humans, Elves, Orcs Caliente's Body Mod Big Bottom Addition V3.2 Better Males Interesting NPC's A Quality World Map RaceMenu SkyUI Glowing Ore Veins Nicos Gift This was a fresh install of the game and all things mentioned. Initially, I found I could not run the game by using the SKSE loader. On my second attempt, I could run the game using the standard starter. The behavior is weird, and of note is the following: 1. When starting the game with SKSE, the initial command window appears. It will sometimes crash there without an error notice. Occasionally, it will open the larger window to run the game and then crash. 2. When starting the game using the default launcher; the game will simply do nothing following selecting the option to start a new game. The intro theme will play and loop. Nothing else happens. I've no idea where to start in the attempt to get my game running. And I'm already disappointed that I lost my character when I had to wipe the drive and reinstall the OS and it's components. Any help with this would be most appreciated.
