  1. Did some looking through tutorials and getting an idea of how this could shape up. My one "gotcha" is I was wondering if there is a follower who an author wouldn't mind me tinkering with. Something like an Inigo, Vilja etc. Reason being I am good at seeing a template and manipulating it or adding to it (IE - "Ah I see! Here he has a trigger that when it rains Inigo can say one of these three things") in order to learn. Is there anything out there like this where an author might be amenable? I can reach out to them individually but I figure before doing that I would ask as it might already exist. Additionally if authors have managed to already get past some of the pain points there is no reason to reinvent the wheel if I can learn from what they have. Note - if I were granted permission to use a template as a base I would absolutely give the author credit and kudos.
  2. The writing, acting, and other things that give the character personality are the critical parts. Inigo (which has been mentioned) has very little actual scripting and the first version was even on the standard follower framework with no custom scripting. The technical thing you need to master is use of the conditions for dialogue. The situational awareness that Inigo seems to have is really just thousands of dialogue lines with appropriate conditions. For example, lines about how much Inigo likes the rain have conditions to make sure it's actually raining. To keep his comments from being annoying various lines are also conditioned to only play at certain times of day, days of week, if the player is holding a torch, etc. Deck16 has a pretty good tutorial at Making a unique-voiced follower in Skyrim that covers all of the critical basics. If you're going to do a custom-voiced character that you don't want to be treated like just one more member of the team by the multi-follower framework mods (EFF, AFT, iAFT, etc.) then I recommend you don't use the standard follower framework. With just 3-4 simple AI packages, a few script fragments, and about a dozen dialogue entries you can do just about everything the standard framework does for you. If anyone is serious about trying this I can give more specific guidance. Or you can be like SmartBlueCat and create a standard-framework follower so compelling that by the time you've hit the limits of the standard framework someone (maybe me) offers to take your character off that system and give it the scripting brains to match the personality you've already given it. The main thing scripting can do is make the character more aware of the world and not look like an idiot. But there are limits, so make sure you come up with some excuse to explain why your character sometimes makes inappropriate comments or repeats things. That is really good information, thanks! I hadn't begun looking into it yet so I didn't know how complex the "back end" programming pieces were. It sounds like it could work as a start small and build up sort of project. I am going to take a look at this over the weekend I think. * Note to original author - sorry not trying to derail your thread, I just think maybe given some time I can help out. Also at least this keeps it at the top :P
  3. I have been dabbling with VERY minor mod things the past week or so (silly conversions and minor changes to existing mods only thus far) but I really have been considering trying to do something like this. I've done voice acting before, have many years of tabletop and LARP experience. I think I could do the writing, acting etc, but I need to figure out the programmy/scripting/mod bits. I'd like a guy who interacts with the world a bit. personally i don't use followers much but I know people love them so I'd want to make someone they actually want to have around.
  4. I currently have the mutli-adoptions mod and the kids are living in Breezehome (there are 4). I am using Elianoras Breezehome which is beautiful and brilliant but by it's very nature the house is small. With 4 kids and dopey Lydia around the house it's tight. I tried using Cynn's Proudspire manor which was also really nice but I ran into a number of problems with kids not moving in there properly. I have some similar issues with custom homes but honestly my main thing I don't like about custom homes is they sort of become a prison if that makes sense at least from what I have seen. I really like the feel of coming home to your "hoem town" and seeing your kids running around playing with the locals. It's cute. There are other things Id love to see as well. To prevent this from becoming a book I made some bullet points. So what I am looking for in a single player home? Large enough for 6 kids and a spouse. I guess it needs room for a housecarl too since you get them whether you want them or not and they end up eatign all your bread. In a major city/town so your kids will run around playing with other kids like in Whiterun or Solitude.Places to store your unique treasures (masks, scrolls, unique weapons, butterfly jars etc)A reasonable amount of mannequins for armor displayAll major crafting stations in a basement or what have youNice to have but not at all necessary: A barracks for a few followers. say 2-6.Private pools/bathing amenities etcThings that will be absolutely fine by me: I don't care if the home has a "tardis" effect where it is bigger on the inside than it is outside. I can suppress my immersion senses.Loading areas (so long as the children/spouse etc can move around semi naturally...keeping them out of a crafting area is fine)Is there something out there that fits the bill for these things? If not would anyone take a stab at making one? I want to feel like I have a cool mansion or manor house for the family where I can still do all my "dad stuff" like smithing but they can go out and do things outside without being trapped. Would love to have some responses to this!
  5. @iamricky22 - Right? The base thieves are basically a bunch of incompetent morons who treat you like crap even though you are single handledly fixing their organization and the ONLY one seemingly bringing in money. Meanwhile they lean against barrels and eat bread all day. And THAT is if you are a bad guy. As a good guy you should be able to string them up publicly while the people rejoice. And Maven Black Briar...yeah her life needs to be ruined, she needs to see it happen and she needs to know you did it lol @HellKitten133 - That mod looks awesome!I might try it on another play-through since it seems to have a lot of sweeping changes. Thanks for sharing! The mod I found form oldrim is https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/28880?tab=description. It looks fantastic, but the author has vehemently stated he/she will not convert it or allow it to be converted. Their right to be sure and I respect that, but the rationale of it being because of what Bethesda promised seems odd. I'd love to see someone who knows what they are doing (IE - not me I can barely make basic changes at this point) create something similar.
  6. Actually seems like there were two separate mods for this in oldrim, but one the author will not convert or allow to be converted. No idea on the other. I really wanna end these guys. Ideas?
  7. Not sure if this was covered anywhere but I can't find it. It always bugged me that Riften is essentially a lost cause as a good guy. There is no way to really save the people from the crap they put up with and the Thieves guild nonesense. In reality, you should be able to go down there, murder every last one of them, boot Maven Black-Briar in the ass (or maybe not that but at least knock her down a couple pegs) and make it a better place for everyone. Your options stand at 1) Join the TG, do illegal and immoral stuff, make people's lives worse or 2) Ignore it and pretend it doesn't matter and it kinda doesn't mean much without you helping build it up. I can't imagien a self respecting hero would do either. However, everyone down there is essential almost and there is little you can do. Also the people live in perpetual misery. The people of Riften deserve better. *Bonus Points - The 24 unusual gems quest...pretty annoying you can only do it if you join the TG. Truly no one else in the entire world knows this legend or how to assemble the crown? Seems lazy.
  8. Are the black faces only occurring on people who have been added by the mod? If so... then I am pretty sure I know how to resolve it based on my viewing of the character conversion video by Skyla's (aka SkylaSkyrim)'s tutorial on converting followers for SSE (on Youtube). She shows what happened the first time she tried converting and it resulted in black faces. She didn't say what she had done differently but I think it is safe to say that she applied the nif optimizer on all nifs once, the first time around. To fix this, the nifs need to be optimized from the originals again. Do not run the optimizer on (any face nifs in) the facegendata folder when you do the general convert. Run the optimizer a second time on ONLY the facegendata folder and make sure that the red "head parts only" is checked for this folder conversion. Let me know when/where you post it (or just email it to me). Thanks! Sort of. The black faces only occurred on the guy in the palace who was an added NPC who sells you the market stand to start off and with Lydia after assigning her to work the stand. BY moving the order of Bjinns mod to change Lydias appearance after Aduras it fixed Lydia, but still having the issue with the sales guy (forget his name will try to add when I can if needed).
  9. Or at least not as greatly as it does. Nothing more annoying when as a tough warrior some pissant apprentice with a frost staff kites you around for 10 minutes and you cant kill him. Shouts work *IF* you can get close enough which is not always possible (and assuming it was not a group of mages and you just used it). There was a mod for oldrim for this.
  10. Hey all! So I am playing through and initially as I was doing testing I was trying to find out where some of the kids might be from the pics on the mod. It was hard finding the newer ones unless you stumble across them. So now as I am playing through I am writing down each kid, where I find them, taking some screen shots etc. I was thinking this could be helpful for folks if I made a thread about it? Before doing so I wanted to see if it already exists and my searching just wasn't up to snuff. Also would this spoil the mod for people? My idea was to put it up with spoiler tags and add kids as I find em. Personally i like the discovery. I also find being more careful wading into enemy camps for fear of killing a kid there adds a cool element to my game. That said some folks may want to build their own little elf family, bandit family, vampire family..whatever. Thoughts? I found that the people who came before and posted things helped me out so I'd like to give back a bit. Also if this is the wrong section to post let me know and I am happy to move it. Thanks.
  11. Hey there! bchick3 converted it over after my extensive begging and permission from Adura. I tested it a little and it seems to be working but the load order is giving me some black face issues. I am pretty new to dealing with this so I am unsure how to resolve properly. Aside from this it seems to work. bchick3 would you be able to publish it so primem0ver and others can try it as well? I don;t feel right about posting it myself since it is Adura's original work and then you are the one who did the hard work of making it possible. All I did was ask :)
  12. Awesome thanks! Yes I contacted one person who does tons of conversions and she(?) always credits the original author which I would absolutely think is the way it should be. Fingers crossed all goes well. No worries on missing me on Steam. I am actually looking for a full time job these days so I have the opposite issue. Thanks again!
  13. Whoa thanks so much for replying!! I tried gettign a hold of you on Steam as well. As I wrote there, your mod was hands down one of my absolute favorites from the time I played the original game. I was still using it, quite successfully, up until a couple weeks ago when I switched to SE. i know my capabilities for conversion are..uh...slim. But I will see if I can find someone who would be willing! I understand about the not publicly posting bit and will of course comply if that is your wish. I wonder if there is any way to entice you to allow it to be converted for SE if someone wants to take a crack at it? There are a few people who are absolute machines when it comes to doing this. Again if it's not something you want to entertain consider it dropped, but I think the new generation needs this mod hah. Seriously. It is great.
  14. Pretty much what the title says. Can anyone put together a female that looks like the character from DAO. Basically I want to have a cute redheaded follower for game. There are some stunning followers out there but most don't suit my tastes. They are largely pin-up girl proportioned and/or blonde. The few redheads I have found are pin-up girl proportioned and/or use freckle mods that I am just not a fan of. Thoughts? Thanks very much folks!
