  1. Hello everybody and thanks for taking the time to view my topic As the name implies, I'd like to learn how to create a companion mod. I realize that this is quite a large undertaking as I'm hoping to create something quite intricate but baby steps first. From what I understand it requires some pretty comprehensive knowledge of the GECK along with character creation, meshes and textures as well as event scripting. And of course the inevitable bugfixes. I guess the first stage is learning about using the relevant programs. I'm wondering if there's any recommended video tutorials or documentation about how to do just that with my intended goal in mind. Failing that, if there's anybody who's happy to instruct a newbie that'd be amazing. Thanks for reading.
  2. I've been experimenting with creating mods for Fallout New Vegas. I'm just starting out so it's nothing too ambitious right now, just simple things like replacing loading screens, posters, billboards, things like that. Aesthetic mods I guess you could call them. In my tests I've found that using a mod manager (in this case MO2) can drastically increase load times. So I thought to get around this issue I could directly modify the files in the game's data directory while making vanilla backups. So I extracted Textures.bsa using Bethesda Archive Extractor. Once I'd found the relevant .dds files I then used GIMP to make the necessary changes. I copied and pasted the new files into the extracted folder and then I needed to re-package them. But this is where I run into a problem. The first program I tried was BSArch from the nexus. At first I couldn't make the command lines work but then I found a utility which added .bat files which made it a lot simpler. I created a new .bsa file, backed up the original and replaced in the game's data folder. When I started the game from the launcher there were issues right away. For example, the HUD health meter wasn't showing correctly. The image of Vault Boy in the pip-boy stats screen wasn't showing up correctly either and there were environmental problems as I was walking around the wasteland like things appearing and disappearing or not displaying correctly. I figured maybe I made a mistake when re-packing the files so I made several attempts with different structures but nothing helped. It doesn't make any sense because I haven't touched the elements that aren't working now. So, I need help figuring out what I'm doing wrong. Are there any alternative programs I can use? Any help would be appreciated.
  3. If I've understood correctly the necessary programs are - nvidia dds plugin, legacy version - GIMP - G.E.C.K. - NifSkope and these will work with Fallout 3/NV/TTW Thanks for the wiki link. Can you recommend any good video tutorials? I get the feeling visual examples will help a lot
  4. Hello everyone. If I've posted this topic in the wrong section of the forum please do tell me so I can see about correcting it. As the title implies, I'd like to try creating some mods of my own. I haven't done any modding before so this is going to something of a learning curve. Basically I'd like to get an idea of what programs I need to download and learn to use. Video tutorials, text walkthroughs, any good sources of information would be appreciated. I guess a sort of Idiot's-How-To would work best since I'm not very computer literate. As to the sorts of mods I'm looking to create they'd be mostly aesthetic. Loading screens, posters, billboards, that kind of thing. At this stage I'm not going to be overly ambitious with intricate armour meshes and the like. I might try making different version to be compatible with 3 and TTW as well as NV. I guess that's about it. Thanks for reading.
  5. I'm looking for a mod for Fallout: New Vegas called The Kitsumimi Project. This is all of the information that I've been able to collect so far - It was hosted on a site called nekomods but the entire site's down. Wayback archive does have some of the pages but the links are all dead - The mod author's name is Minoumimi. I have tried to contact them directly but haven't heard anything back - It's primary use is a requirement for other mods such as Darkstalkers mods - some of these can be found on loverslab I really hope that somebody here can help with this. I've been asking on sites like loverslab, reddit, 4channel and others for months with little success. If anybody has a copy that they'd be willing to share or if they can point me in the right direction I'd be so grateful.
  6. I'd like to make a small request, hopefully one that won't take long. I recently downloaded this amour mod https://www.nexusmod...out3/mods/23325 and have been enjoying it a great deal. However, there is one small change I'd like to ask for. Those of you familiar with FOTNS may remember that the faceguard of Jagi's helmet was originally portrayed as red, not gold. https://img.fireden....49601342342.png So, I'd like to ask if somebody could please modify the textures of the mod so that it's the right colour. AlienSlof's given permission. Thank you in advance.
  7. Hello everybody. I'd like to try my hand at modding Final Fantasy X/X-2. Can anybody suggest what programs I'd need for extracting and editing the meshes/textures of the games? Thanks
  8. Now that you mention it, it is a Fallout 3 mod. I converted it for NV using FOEdit ages ago and I guess I've always just thought of it as a NV mod. Should I move the topic?
