  1. I honestly wanted to simply download Vampire the masquerade and happily mod it like i was used to with skyrim. Unfortunately, the last 3 hours I was having issues especially due to not wanting to update the program cause I had no idea how it would react to my old Skyrim Special edition saves which i have not touched in a LONG TIME. So i downloaded the game an started trying to download the community patch, nope, must update. I said well let me make sure skyrim special edition still runs, yep. OK let's see if I update vertex how will affect it. Yep, nothing but race menu not liking the forced update by steam. that's ok, I'll update racemenu and skse. Vertex says "f*** no, I decided to change how the mod folder works with the initial directories and would be placed for further updates since your update DESPITE directories being already set to any changes you made prior at the time. Which TOTALLY SCREWS UP where they were initially saved" Great. Awesome. OH by the way, any new downloads are not going to recognize the version update with certain mods cause the vertex update completely didn't ask you to verify if u wanted those changes. Super great there. After a long while of messing with it I realized there is no fixing the issue seeing how it wasn't an issue with the listed mods saying the version needs to be updated cause despite doing so it wouldn't resolve the version issue. Updating mods did absolutely nothing due to the directory issue. Now it broke my f***ing heart but i literally said no FINE. After this version update with all the directories being reset I literally have to delete all my Skyrim data and start fresh. So f*** it. I was going to restart and make everything a fresh install. I reinstalled Vortex and noticed... it's an auto install to c drive. WARNING C DRIVE IS AT CAPACITY... after my second download. I realized it wasn't my fault for glazing over the option, cause it didn't give that option, it's an entirely different download, "How could that be? surely the devs have some foresight why that might cause issues." After five minutes of googling I find out no. In the devs great wisdom they even highly recommend against installing outside of c drive much less have the default download give the option..... GUYS. Come on. I can not say I understand the hesitation but fine, give a warning, But to me there is no reason the default download SHOULD NOT give you the option to ask WHERE to install. Having that option in a separate installer it's simply asinine, that should be standard. Even with the separate drive installer I did not realize it would not ask me to confirm the download location, while I would assume the program would install in it's own directory in wherever u placed it I realized, NO, "C DRIVE IS AT MAX CAPATITY" it still wants to download mods in the C drive. This is pretty aggravating already. But if that wasn't enough IT ALSO WILL NOT INSTALL THE MODS IN THE SAME LOCATION AS EITHER THE GAME OR WHERE VERTEX IS ESSENTIALLY INSTALLED. DO YOU WANT TO GUESS WHERE I'AM WITH VERTEX? Let me give you a clue. Now let me say that after you brought out my inner Farley I can't help but to ask, why doesn't the end user at the very least get options of 1. having an option with directory designation on the DEFAULT installer, even if you must have a pop up requiring you to verify the install location with a suggestion on why you want it on the c drive. 2. The initial download asking you where to store the download data 3. Where you you wish to install the mod locally. I get you wanted only advanced users to mess with this stuff, but even end users would assume you would ask prior to download and install where they ought to be stored. I'm honestly just upset cause I have defended Vortex in the past seeing how it literally WAS just getting it's feet wet and getting to the end users but it has been years. Please. Please rethink how Vortex is initially implemented upon install. Ask for confirmation on where local files are both downloaded and where it would install at. Users do not realize this isn't already baked into the background nor is the software alerting you to where it would initially allocate files makes Vortex a headache.
