  1. Fomm is definitely not easier to use. I tried it and it is far more bureaucratic than NMM. Nonetheless, I've all but given up trying to play this game again. I can't get out of the character creation part without the game locking up. It never locks up at the same point but it does lock up within a few minutes of starting the game. Maybe I installed to many mod or maybe I didn't install them right. Maybe there's something wrong with my computer but it is a new system that I bought for Skyrim. At any rate, I've just spent about 15 hours over the last two days downloading and trying to install mods using FOMM and NMM and I have nothing to show for it. I've uninstalled and deleted everything. Perhaps in a few days I'll try to reinstall the game, patch it and play for awhile to see if freeze still happens. I'm too frustrated to keep at it right now.
  2. Thank you. Can I ask another question? I've downloaded Fallout Wasteland Explorer Mod. It comes in two parts with a hotfix as a 3rd file.' When using the NMM I install the first part, but when I go to install the 2nd part it asks me if I want to upgrade or install this file normally. If I click no the file installs normally and there are now two files in the esp. list that are ticked. When I click on the hotfix it asks the same question. If I click yes to upgrade then only the hotfix file .esp is ticked.
  3. I'm wondering if there is a difference or a reason to use Fallout Mod Manager for Fallout 3 or if Nexus Mod Manager is the same thing. My thinking is that FOMM is a predecessor to NMM and NMM will work for both, but I'm not sure. Thanks.
  4. As the title suggests I'd like to see "modern marriage" brought to Skyrim in the form of a mod. Since Bethesda has given us the option of marriage I think it should come with some realism so we can truly immerse ourselves. Modern Marriage Mod (MMM) would enhance marriage in Skyrim by bringing to the player character all the benefits and joys of real life marriage in the Western World. Key features include: 1. You will need to own at least one house, one horse, and have 100k gold as well as an Amulet of Mara and a Perfect Diamond Ring to get married--you lose the ring just for asking and she may say no or back out later (15% chance). If you are female marrying a male you will only need an Amulet of Mara. 2. On the day of your marriage 50k gold (or 10% of your total wealth whichever is more) will be deducted from your treasury to pay for the wedding, dress, and other incidentals. This cost is eliminated if you marry a male and are female. 3. Every week you will need to make at least 10,000 gold from your exploits and half of this weekly income will be deducted and given to your spouse to cover her expenses since you are the breadwinner. This cost will be eliminated if you marry a male. 4.1. If your spouse is male he will have to have a job as well as cook and clean and accompany you on your adventures to carry anything heavy. 4.2. If your spouse is female she will be required to do nothing for you that she does not choose to do. She may or may not clean, work, cook, or treat you with respect and kindness. If you are attacked she may or may not assist you. 5. There is a small chance that when you come home from adventuring your wife will be angry and attack you with unarmed combat. No bounty will be given to her for assaulting you. However, should you defend yourself even with a calm spell a bounty of 100 gold will be issued in the Hold you currently live in. If you do defend yourself and your wife dies or is killed by your hand for any other reason a bounty will be issued in every hold and you will only have the option of going to jail or dieing. 6. The chance of your wife attacking you increases if you fail to bring in 10,000 gold each week. 7. If your wife does attack you those attacks will continue unless you bring your wife gifts every day and or make even more money to give her. 8. If you are unable to prevent your wife from attacking you she may escalate with weapons and may even attack you in your sleep. There is a 1% chance, per attack, that your wife will later castrate you in your sleep. No bounty will be issued and you will not die. You will be laughed at wherever you go. (male nude mod is required for full immersion). 9. It is possible, but rare, that your wife may simply kill you in your sleep at which point the game will end because you never wake up. As always, no bounty will be issued against your wife for any assault against you. 10. At the discretion of your wife, children will begin to appear. They will be disrespectful and demanding especially the daughters. Your net payout to your wife will increase by 20% for the first child and 10% after that for a total of 70% income loss per week for the first child and 80% or higher after that (a maximum of 95% income loss will be instituted to allow you to buy things so you can keep working). 11. If your wife attacks you it is possible you will get a bounty even if you do nothing but walk away. You wife will simply go to the guards and claim you hit her. 12. There is a 50% chance that at some point while playing Skyrim your wife will divorce you even if there was never an argument. At this point you will lose half of all gold you have in your possession. Half of all items in all chests, dressers, boxes, drawers, etc. will disappear. You will lose your house and your horse. If you own more than one house you will be allowed to keep the house which is worth the least. There will also be a 100,000 gold fee for lawyers that will come out of your half. 13. Further, your weekly child costs will be doubled for each child up to 60% and if you owned homes in Markarth, Windhelm, or Whiterun you will be required to continue to pay your wife 5,000 gold a week or half of what you make (whichever is more) in alimony until you die or your wife remarries (she won't remarry but instead will just live with a guy who raises your kids). 14. The divorce will take 6 months (game time) during which time you will be required to make all previous payments as well as paying the 100,000 gold for the lawyers. In some cases divorces will take longer or be more costly (dice roll on this one) and your lawyer costs may be significantly higher. The richer you are the more likely you will have to pay more. 15. After the divorce there is a chance that if you interact with your children your ex-wife may call the town guards and arrest you because she claimed you were abusive. 16. There is about a 10% chance that you will be prohibited from ever seeing your kids again if there was any domestic violence in your marriage or if your wife just doesn't like you. Trying to visit or interact with your kids will result in a bounty. After this if you get within 500 feet of the kids or your ex a bounty will be issued (even if you can't see them). 17. If you fail to make enough money to cover child support and alimony you will get a bounty in the Hold your ex-wife currently resides. The bounty will be equal to the amount owed plus 20% extra paid to the Jarl (for bookkeeping). You will have only the option to pay or go to jail. If you are behind in your payments the guards stop you the Jarl reserves the right to seize your horse and possessions to sell (at a discounted rate) to pay your alimony and child support. No leniency will be given if you are now unable to work because you lost your armor, weapons, and armor. Note: If your spouse is male the chance of him ever striking you will be half that if she was female (real life) and usually only occurs once no matter what you do. You will be allowed to defend yourself without a bounty if you are female. If your male spouse attacks you more than once you will be allowed to kill him and only receive a 50 gold bounty. Killing a male spouse who strikes you automatically makes you a thane in the town you live in. (use of a frenzy spell on your husband does not disqualify you from any later rewards). If he does strike you he will be arrested by the guards. If he resists he may be killed and you will own all property and assets. Should your character be female you may strike your husband anytime you please. An option that works similar to the vampire feed option will be available should you wish to chop off his penis at night. If you do this a small bounty will be issued against you. However, he will not die and when he walks around town people will cheer you and laugh at him. If you are not already a Thane the Jarls of every hold will send you a messenger and invite you to their palace to discuss your deeds and make you a Thane. You will be made famous throughout the land and people will give you gifts and praise for what you have done. I think that about covers it. Now if you don't think anyone will download this mod then let me just remind you that millions of men in the Western World agree this in real life every day.
  5. Have you used that arcane enchanter thing in the Mages College? I'm not sure what it does but it looks interesting. There is also that hand with the ring thing in the Midden. What's that about? I haven't done all the quests myself. I'm doing the Stormcloak quest and it's kind of boring. I have a bad feeling that it's going to get real repetitive from now on. Have you done all the Daedric quests?
  6. I stopped using armor altogether. My last two characters used a bow as their only weapon. The first one also specialized in Illusion magic but then I realized with a mod I could get some decent illusion magic as a vampire and save all those perk points for something else. So now I'm playing my firs Dark Elf (never played cuz they're ugly) and he wears only clothing. He uses only a Longbow (best bow in Skyrim in my opinion) and when I get to the Grey Beards I'll level up my sneak and put a couple perks to get to the triple bow damage perk and then stop. Not using armor means I don't need to spend any perks in Smithing. Because Longbow can have insane damage and rapid firing rate I consider it the most upgradeable and accessible bow in the game. I'll be using it when I'm level 50 (and have on other builds). Plus it's dirt cheap. Because I'll never put a point in any of the melee skills, or armor, or shield I can now invest in other long ignored skills like pickpocket and maybe even lockpicking. I find this more fun as a sneaky build because I am making the most of sneak and game mechanics to build a powerful character on a shoestring perk budget. For instance Muffle reduces the sound of armor as you move, but I'm not wearing armor so I don't need that perk. I also only use a bow so I don't need any of the backstab perks. In fact, the right side of sneak up until Deadly Aim is as far as I go. I plow the rest of the points in things like speechcraft or pickpocketing or alchemy or whatever. And since I will only use a Longbow I don't need to put points in Smithing. Many people will put 5 or 6 points in Smithing perks to get to Daedric weapons but the damage per second on a Daedric bow is only about 15 dps. The longbow does about 10. However if I put the 5 points it takes to get to Daedric weapons and plow them into Archery damage my Longbow will do about 22 dps. That's just slightly less than Karliah's bow (which also requires 5 perk points. 4 for Ebony weapons and 1 for Archane Blacksmith). So anyway, to make a long story short, I'm using my knowledge of the game to try to make very powerful characters by specializing in key skills. Essentially making a very efficient and very deadly build. The result is that on Master Level Difficulty I'm able to field highly viable characters even at very low levels. Instead of spreading skills around I'm focusing on a few very important skills and it's made me very powerful in the early game which is a time many people struggle at the highest difficulty settings. After that maybe I'll make an unarmed combat character that uses a shield. Punch bash punch bash, loot. Rince, repeat.
  7. I was just enchanting some gear and I wondered how much sneak do I really need? I've got several items that fortify sneak. How much is too much? I probably have around 80 in sneak skill so I expect that to increase to 100, but how much fortification do I need until it stops improving? tx
  8. What makes you think that won't happen here? Today they bundle Workshop with the construction kit, tomorrow it automatically loads your completed mod onto Workshop and the day after all mods made with the construction set become proprietary technology that can only be uploaded into Workshop.
  9. Way back in the day when web browsers were something new Microsoft began to give their web browser away with the purchase of their operating system. The result was a stifling of competition and some companies that sold web browsers went out of business. Eventually the Federal Government got involved and made them stop but the damage was already done. Now Internet Explorer is the most common web browser in the world (to my knowledge). Now, Besthesda is in cahoots with Steam to create a Steam Workshop which is essentially offering the same service that we are getting here at Skyrim Nexus. Only Steam will download and install any mod right onto your game. I'm wondering how this will affect this community? Will people jump ship? Will Steam Workshop be a flop? Will it start off slow but eventually and unstoppably grow in strength until operations like Nexus disappear? Will they start writing code that makes 3rd party software like Mod Manager incompatible? Will they lure us away from 3rd party sites like Nexus and get us hooked and then start charging us money? As for myself I cringe every time I see an advertisement for Steam Workshop. It's bundled with the creation kit and so everyone who makes a mod now will automatically download and install the workshop. I have a very uneasy feeling about all this.
  10. There is no way to do it that I'm aware of. The best you can do is just not use magic and therefore you won't be required to constantly going into the hotmenu and left click a weapon. If you use a bow you can just hotkey the bow and when you want dual wield you can deselect the bow and your weapons will appear. Saves on hotkeys this way too. Bethesda has always shortchanged us on the number of hotkeys and the utility of the hotkeys we get.
  11. I don't know that the steward is bugged. Sometimes you just have to talk to him or her during business hours. You may not be able to wake them up in the middle of the night and buy a house or furnishings for same. That said, I don't like how quest items have weight. Those stupid Stones of Barenziah get heavy after awhile. Vampires suck. It's not much different than ES4. I want feeding to make me stronger and advance me into new levels of vampirism rather than making me weaker. Same goes with Werewolves. Why even be a werewolf? If you run into some place, kill everyone, how is it any different than if you did it in human form. My point is I should become stronger the more I kill as a werewolf. I should have magic and normal weapon resist, high regeneration, etc. and those things should continue to advance the longer I am a werewolf. Instead, werewolf is a novelty that is fun until you realize how vulnerable you are and how easy it is to be killed as a werewolf. If I'm going to take on the curse of one of these things I should get something out of it. Glass armor looks stoopid. And I don't like the Elven and Glass swords. I thought ES4 Elven swords were beautiful, but now they are bronze looking crap. Spriggans are hard to kill. Least they could do is drop more than one taproot. They used to drop a bunch of alchemy ingredients. sigh. Alchemy perk tree encourages cheating. You have to spend several perk points before you can get to experimenter perk which will allow you to use wortcraft to learn other effects. That is a waste of ingredients and time. But at the same time to use a printout of ingredients to make potions and decode the effects is painstaking and boring. Why can't I blow up the Thieves Guild the same way I can blow up the Dark Brotherhood? When I first started the Thieves Guild main questline I felt dirty. I didn't like strong arming working class shop owners and other kinds of thuggery. It's one thing to rip off the rich and quite another for the rich to be employing you to rip off the poor. I wanted to kill everyone of those buggers but Beth won't let us. They're just as dirty as DB. Why won't Beth let Babette die as well? She's 300 years old. I don't care if she has the body of a child. She's not a child. She's a cold blooded killer. If I eliminate the DB then she should go too. Same with Cicero broken down on the road. I'll take his outfit from him right there on the side of the road. Beth is still making games for kids. Not enough blood, not enough gore, not enough bad language, no sex, no nudity, just a sterilized PG rated game. The least they could have done was made an adult version that could be activated with a code that is specific to your game copy. No ID no activation. Combat is improved but there is so much more room for improvement. Why settle for OK? Quests are repetitive and not very involving. Some of the main quest lines are in-depth but they always seem to end quickly. I think the ES4 Mages Guild Quest was twice as long as ES5. Dragons are way to easy to kill. I can barely take down Draugrs but I can last in a fight with a dragon? Fortunately there's a mod for that, but why do we have to create what Beth should have created for us? The UI is crap. I'm used to it now but I still don't like it. It jumps around when I'm adding or removing items. That is very frustrating and can be expensive if I have to buy something back. I could go on but I got to go.
  12. That doesn't address the issue at hand. I'm not expecting my longbow to have 186 with my current level on archery skill. I do expect it to gain more than 4 points when I use a 102% fortify smithing potion. If I gained 30 points with 200 smithing (smithing skill + enchants) then I should gain another 15 with an addition of 100% fortify smithing potion (hypothetically). One thing I noticed today while playing was that if I put on 1 20% item I don't gain any more damage on an iron dagger, but if I put on two 20% items I gain 2 points of damage on an iron dagger. Shouldn't I gain 1 point with each 20%? Why do I have to get 40% to make a difference?
  13. I was honing a longbow last night and it was already at legendary level. I had 100 in smithing, 82% increase from enchanted clothing, and the notched pickaxe (which I think is useless once you hit 100 smithing) equipped when I made this legendary bow. Then I drank a 107% fortify smithing potion but I was only able to improve the weapon another 4 points! Anyone know why this is? Shouldn't I have been able to double the damage on the bow with with the 107% potion (bow went from 51 damage to 55 damage with the 107% potion iirc). I know the bow goes higher. I had it up to 186 damage on another character.
  14. More functions for companions like forage for ingredients on your own for a few hours and then catch up to me. Companions that don't charge into battle when you are trying to stay hidden. An auto-harvest mod that is spell driven (alternative to companion harvesting). Ability to reveal ingredient attributes without a perk and without using data sheet from Internet. The current perks are way to high to be useful and it still takes an hour or so to go through all the ingredients with a list of their effects. A better vampire mod that increases vampire skill and abilities based on how many times you have fed and how long you have been a vampire rather than the current system. New powers, harsher sunlight penalty, and more vampires overall in the game. I've never encountered a werewolf out in Skyrim. Do they actually exist in the wild? Silver Hand seems to find lots. Why can't I? I have no modding skill so I won't make any of these mods. I'd love to download them though.
  15. Magic was broken the moment they gave casters 100% stagger for dual casting. The rest is just icing.
  16. What makes illusion fun anyway? it just seems kind of boring. Used to be able to control people and now you can. And you have to use it a lot to get it to level up. I was thinking of making an armorless archer character with illusion magic back up. Aside from calming anything that I can't kill with the bow and occasionally waiting five minutes for a group that I've frenzied to kill each other I don't see much use for illusion. Perhaps someone could enlighten me?
  17. I edited the omod and removed the no damage and the 250% damage. Not sure how that ended up in there.
  18. Below is my load order. To answer your other question, if I don't activate the soul trap exactly as the purple light appears I get a pop-up box saying it's not yet time for this (or something like that). 19. I disabled the alt start mod but it didn't help. I waited from day 86 through day 90 and no Revenant. What I finally did was counted the seconds between the flashes of purple light. It was about 4 seconds. If I loaded up the altar with grand stones and hit soul trap at the right time it would convert it into a black soul gem. I think I'll live with it. There are too many mods to be unticking and ticking them. Thanks for the help.
  20. I appreciate the link, however, I know when it's supposed to happen but it isn't happening. I'll keep stopping by every day but something tells me it is broken.
  21. I'm using an alternate start mod. Do you think that could have something to do with it?
  22. I'm trying to use the Shade of the Revenant to make BSG. However it never occurs. I wait for the 8th day (days passed - 1) /8 but the Revenant never happens. I've waited an entire 8 days and nothing ever happens. One thing I do notice is that on any day of the week if I'm at an altar every few seconds the purple light will shine down for a brief instance. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Should I be looking for a code to get things started?
  23. One more question is that sometimes a mod I install using OBMM unticks itself. I have to re-activate it. Does anyone know why this happens?
  24. OK. I rebuilt the patch and it seems to work much better. I just ticked the things that link said to and I deselected everything else. I apparently was trying to make it harder than it is. But now I have another question. I want to install Unholy Darkness Mod and there are a bunch of files that match the Cosmetic Compilation and have the same CRC's. But there are a few files that are a mismatch. How many mismatched files can I overwrite without breaking anything? Or is it something I just have to experiment with?
  25. So what am I supposed to do? Just press "rebuild patch" and then click the things that this links says to: link and that's it? I don't have to click anything in the sub menus that come up? I notice many of them aren't already clicked but BOSS has them listed as tags.
