Donation Points Stats and No Ads for Mod Authors

I have seen the birth of the DP system and I am glad that some effort were made to collect DP related data and turn it into a statistics page. It was not certain what happened to the DP until today. I can say that the DP baby has grown to a nice toddler today. I hope that it grows nicely. Maybe some people would come up with more useful ideas related to DP. And that it gets worked out. I am impressed and want to show respect with this system. It is one of the features that Nexus has worked out very well. However, a small critic. Probably my last one got lost in the curtains of the time; the DP store might need a revision. I hoped to see a sorta tab system where one tab consists of games you can purchase and another tab for charity related "products". They are still mixed up with the games and lingering somewhere on the second page. -

Well, it is too late to change the current used technologies anyways, but that you have chosen to use Electron as a desktop platform may be more efficient from budget's perspective. Still were you guys really aware of the decision made? Electron ships with a chrome VM. So for each electron app that you have on a desktop, you have installed chrome's engine too, despite the fact that you have already a chrome browser. It's not a secret that chrome eats up your resources (especially when managing memory). I certainly don't want this on my PC. I wished that you have considered to stay at C# like the old NMM (even if that software program is not designed correctly). I have also seen the requirements. Especially the "bonus skills" section. The management has to consider if they're not picking too many technologies. Really, for server side only: Node.js + Rails + PHP. Or is node.js used for some client site tooling? I would really say "Really?" if that's the situation. -
In response to post #45117810. #45155590 is also a reply to the same post. Is there a way to check for an overview of already published staff picks? Would not want to miss some nice/useful mods. That DAO one is pretty new for me. It's been a while that i've played DAO. Gotcha add that.

Ah, personally I consider it as a good news that the current NMM is not being developed now (besides some maintenance updates like bug fixes). I have seen the code on GitHub and I found it quite fugly. Heh, it's far from a flexible code and contains many code duplications. Also, there are some fragments that shouldn't be available in a release because they're intended to be used in development cycles. However, I see such code fragments in release build... I am aware that NMM started as a hobby project, but since there is a development team, I seriously hope that the design of the new software is being considered as an important step and not "just something".

Before switching the tabs, ensure that you're visiting the page over HTTPS instead of HTTP. Just add " https://" before the www.nexusmods.com/< ... > in the address bar, then hit enter.

Since you're stepping over TLS/SSL, can you update your post so that other users would know a manual fix to solve their problem? The problem is that if you visit a mod on nexus by HTTP, switching tab doesn't work because you get an "E" as result. (An error should be more meaningful ...) To solve this, the user has to ensure that he's visiting a mod over HTTPS Example: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/75175/? ==> will give "E" when switching tab. Fix it to https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/75175/? ==> notice the addition of "s". This allows you to switch the tabs. Or set up the routes that HTTP requests get redirected. (but i don't advise that). Reason of the error: SOP restriction. The admins have to set up CORS header correctly to resolve this.

Oh, there is a GitHub page for NMM. My previous guess that it's developed in C# is right it seems :P It will take a while to step into this project because it's already quite large. So many classes. A cd would be useful. Still, why is there no use of generics and/or abstractions? It would adding new games to the NMM more easier :-)

Err, most CDN providers a way to purge the cache. You can do that by using the API and/or the admin panel. (At some providers, like CloudFlare, it depends also of your subscription plan)

In response to post #35646727. #35647377 is also a reply to the same post. Some ads are causing memory leaks due of malfunctioning script in the background. I have mentioned it before. It gives you a feeling of "freeze". If you see one, just report it. But at the end, it's the ad host that should fix their scripting.

In response to post #35649942. #35650687, #35651037 are all replies on the same post. " especially those that have the audacity to try and infect your pc with viruses. " Hahahahahaaaa * ahem * Serious. It won't happen if your browser has secure privacy settings and that you have a solid AV. The host that uses the ad service can also make it more secure by sandboxing it or implement a strict SOP. Still, most infections occurs after the user has clicked on the ad. I allow these ads. I even don't have adblockers installed. Why ? Because they need an income. If you advises to find another source of income, please suggest them. Be sure that you can reach an income of > 780,000 US $ on yearly base. Also " Adverts turn people away " is not true. Look to major sites like YouTube. You can say that sites like Pinterest / Facebook doesn't have ads, but they gain their income by selling/using visitor's data. Or wikipedia ? They rely on charity. Their costs is also lower than this nexus. So please don't yell if this site wants to use ads. Nothing is free. Especially hosting a large file service that Nexus provides. If you have problems with that, then do what you have said with " Adverts turn people away ". Go away. Or you're a hypocrite.

I don't use adblockers because i'm a developer and I understand the reason behind the ads on a website. It provides the host of a website an income that they can use. Like keeping this site online with that large amount of users, posts, mod files and images (and ofc up-/download traffic) requires a serious budget. (Really, 780 k US $ ? ) Your site is doing it correctly (I'm a senior QA with gaming as leisure time), the ads are in balance with the content. I have seen worse sites, with too many ads. I just avoid these. Keh, people usually justify ad blockers with wrong reasons (especially that "privacy" talk). I didn't knew about that supporter membership. Maybe i will consider it someday. I just love this site. But on long terms, making the site ad free doesn't work unless you have a monthly, steady income. Now, I don't agree with your list with reasons when an ad is "bad". There are some ads of those many (I have visited this site a lot lately because i returned to Skyrim, and started to discover + add mods) that causes memory leaks* ! I have reported one of it before. Now, with the report feature, I'm going to report an ad if it causes a memory leak in the near future. Also, if people has issues with the sounds, firefox offers a functionality to mute the sounds, even if it comes from the ad. *It's caused by the malfunctioning script, processing the ad transformation in the background. The developers from Rubicon even uses document.write in their script. Really ? Not to mention that there is a timer that reloads the page when it elapses. But during the leak, it elapses, starts to refresh which causes the page hanging for a while ........

In response to post #15549630. #15553345, #15558010 are all replies on the same post. "as long as you have a antivirus you should be fine" -> AV's aren't completely waterproof. There is a little vulnerability moment between a new virus (from scratch) to the update moment of the virus. Common sense in combination with good AV and a solid firewall should be enough. For firewall, it's that nothing enters your computers through different port which is left open - fe port 23 for Telnet (barely used anymore) - after using it in the past.

NMM bug fix release and download hacking problems fixed

In response to post #7634227. if you have windows on your machine, then you can remove Norton and go for MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials). It's a nice and free AV. More better is that it relies on additional security updates for MS products/OS which you are already gaining on the top of Norton's updates. i have also gotten Norton in the past, but i would define these as crap if you know how to care your PC against malwares/viruses. You can reply with the fact that Symantec (company whose publish norton AV's ) is the market leader concerning AV, but they have achieved it through a nice worked out marketing strategy. Look to the OEM system where Norton is being pre-installed at most windows OS. Recently, McAfee is using the same strategy ... -

I am aware that this post is old, but your solution has helped my problem here too. Big thanks. works like a charm. I even didn't noticed that she's using that mesh. I do know that the game like to crash if there is a similar mod for a mesh ... again big thanks
