Yeah, not sure what this Creation Kit will be capable of, but the skill building and introduction to new spells and what not should be doable. If anything, the story behind this would be along the lines of a single Dragon egg that was left behind, somewhere in the mountains. And then there'd be the option, for those that just want to jump ahead and play as an adult Dragon starting somewhere in the mountains Again though, the request is almost entirely for having the ability to play as one of the Dragons that you see flying around in vanilla Skyrim

Figure I'd share what I could picture experiencing in a mod like this since a few others have done so  You start the game as Dragonborn, being taken to your execution. Upon arrival, you enter the character customization screen. (**This can go two ways, choosing a dragon within the character customization, or afterwards**) Once you're satisfied with your selection, you hit the designated key to finalize your character's creation. A dialogue box pops up, asking if you wish to be a Dragon. The player chooses Yes and the screen slowly fades out. A loading screen ensues. After loading, the screen slowly fades in and you can hear the wind and as the screen gets brighter, you realize your in a cave. You can see the wind and snow raging outside of the cave. As you move towards the entrance of the cave, you realize that you're somewhere high up in the mountains. (Perhaps future modding will let the player start as a new-born dragon.) From here you're free to follow a tutorial that a mod might provide, or perhaps the mod simply lets you roam free. During the course of the game, you master your power over magic and your scales grow harder and thicker as you get older, taking you from something of a fledgling to that of an Ancient Dragon. During this process you eventually gain access to new skills and abilities such as multiple types of breaths, like fire, ice, and lightning, along with magic that will allow you to transform yourself into a human and communicate with the lesser races, incognito. The look of the humanoid character would be decided from what the player created during the tutorial. (**perhaps modding will let players choose what the humanoid will look like when they use the magic spell to change themselves, like the "showracemenu" command**) Compared to the Dragonborn, Shouts would have an exponentially shorter cool down and increased power based on the age and skill of the Dragon, being a true-born Dragon and all. Well, that's about it :teehee:

I'd like to play a true-born Dragon :turned:, almost unafiliated with the Dragonborn, during this war with Alduin. Seems a bit reasonable since not every dragon is sided with Alduin. Most of them, but not all of them. Edit: I love the sig XD. I'm still looking for this one Dragon image that I came across years ago. I'll use the sig till I find it. Kudos for the artwork in the sig.

I am not going to spoil much, but there are some dragons that you can talk to. Its common, english, though one tends to use Dragon Language with it. So, in other words, dragons can speak both their own language and common. I'm humoring myself by thinking how long it would take me to get something like that done :teehee: Having only subtitles seems like a great starting point though, if there's going to be communication between Dragons. Modders could simply reword the language to their own with less effort on their part, instead of having to include both written and audio customizations. This request though is, almost entirely, for the playability of the Dragon race. There's a lot of variables that might either make this very easy, or really difficult. I figure the modular nature of both the Creation Kit and Skyrim will be incredible and should allow us to contribute custom dialogue and new Dragon NPCs and all kinds of good stuff in the future.

Best thing I can think of doing right now, is checking out the tutorials for the Oblivion Construction Set and a few mods of interest, while keeping an open mind for how the Skyrim Creation Kit will work

As for how things start, I'm hoping things can stay simple, a simple fade-out from the Dragonborn's point of view and a fade-in to the Dragon's, somewhere in the mountains, in an Outdoor cave after customization is finalized in the tutorial. Perhaps the player can choose everything normally, during the tutorial, in the character customization screen. After everything is finalized, a message box pops up asking if they'd like be a Dragon instead, which will do the fade-out/fade-in part. I think including the voice for Dragons and the actual lettering for the language would be a lot of work, so simply have subtitles for the time being would give us something to play with, if anyone is planning to mod speech between Dragons. The parts of Skyrim involving interaction with people and places that normally Dragonborn does could be applied with a magic spell that allows the player to change into a humanoid form, or, Dragonborn, to accomplish things they'd normally do as one of the default races.

It's really great to see the idea getting supported by a lot of people  . I've mentioned this to a few friends and they're keeping their eyes open as well.

The request in this mod is for the player to play as a Dragon, while having ability to transform into a humanoid through magic as an added option or for compatibility with many quests and interactive objects (like doors). That's my request at least. I want to be able to play the game as a true-born Dragon. I noticed in the wiki that there's actually different types based on their scale color and even ones that are considered "ancient". To be able to play as an ancient, true-born Dragon would really be great :turned:

Lots of people do, actually. It breaks immersion, and some people don't like that. Not me though, since I used the Akatosh Mount mod in Oblivion and flew right over cities, empty or otherwise. It'd be better as a total conversion mod. An alternative side of the story. The main reason for this is because as a Dragonborn you've already got dragon blood in you, you're half-dragon, more or less. You want to play as a dragon through the main storyline? Well that's fine, but you'll be pretty disappointed when you realise your fat ass can't walk through those tiny tower doors in Helgen. As an alternative storyline though, it'd work. Playing as a dragon on the side of the dragons, destroying the human race, would make much more sense. And it'd work. You wouldn't have to enter a town to destroy it, you'd just destroy it. The two mods that I mentioned weren't total conversion mods, but boy did they do a lot for two of the most well known races, Vampires and Werewolves. I'd like play as a Dragon that had no discernible side in this war from the start, my own personal story, as I'm sure each person here would go about their business as a Dragon differently. There's at least one Dragon that I know of which fights on the side of the Dragonborn, so it shouldn't have to be entirely about destroying everything. I had an idea that I posted, which related to a few other ideas in here, about using magic to become humanoid and interact with some of the other bipedal creatures. It fits with some of the lore that dragons have too. This is something that Werewolf: The Awakening and Terrain Vampires did pretty well, minus a few bugs that stuck around.

Yeah that was an awesome summary of the request  . I honestly haven't seen such a level of detail given to Dragons in any game since MUDs in text-based games and pen and paper role playing games. With the level of modding that I've seen from Morrowind and Oblivion, there's bound to be a few of us out there that'll bring this fully fleshed out mod to light. I can't wait to see what this latest Construction Set lets us do :geek: http://playstationlifestyle.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Skyrim-Dragon-feature.jpg

The only thing I can think of lore-wise for Dragons having a human form, is due to magic that they use to move about incognito through the towns, communicating with people and what not. It doesn't really imply a specific skin or humanoid race so that could really circumvent this problem about going into towns. I'm hoping a modder has the player wake up in a large outdoor cave somewhere in the mountains if they choose to play as a dragon. An example would be, ***Player goes through a new game until he reaches the race selection screen.**** ***If player chooses a Dragon, then after the customization is finalized the game fades out from the Dragonborn's point of view and fades in to a Dragon's point of view somewhere in the mountains.****

Anything that helps allow players to play as a pure-born Dragon would be great. Some of these ideas sound awesome.

Very cool :turned: Though the default skins for the Dragon race is awesome all on it's own @_@ Yeah that would be really weird going to the execution as a Dragon. I figure something like the tutorial skip could be implemented. As for caves and stuff, maybe customizing the flight ability so that it works only outdoors, dragons are still huge, but I don't really expect perfection in such an endeavor. There's so much involving Dragons in this game that I don't really care XD as long as I can at least soar through the sky and maybe pillage a village or beat up a sheep or something. After I left the tutorial area and was on my own, I saw the mountain peaks off in the distance and I thought "What I'd give to be one of the Dragons and fly."
-
As weird as that sounds, would you actually pay for any crimes you commit as a Dragon? :turned: In the Werewolf: The Awakening mod, there was a modification towards an npc's disposition to the player if they were a wolf. It really does seem possible considering what's been done in the past, even when some of the assets for certain things, like the ride-able pet dragon in oblivion, weren't entirely there by default. That's what I think is so cool about this game, a lot of the assets for Dragons are there :) I know there's the thing regarding the towns that you have to load into, but, like Terrain Vampires and a bunch of other mods that had the player flying around, it was really fun :D. To me at least

I usually make up my own stories that somehow tie into the lore of the game, sometimes. In this case, if I were playing as a Dragon, I wouldn't just fly down into a town and start trying to converse with a fence.. Funny, but just doesn't fit, I can see the option would be there if there were no limitations, but to me it wouldn't make sense as you mentioned. I picture a mod which includes the playable Dragon race and an added Cave, somewhere in the mountains. I'm thinking along the lines of a mix between Istaria, I of the Dragon, and Hoard ( a game on the playstation network )
-
What I'm requesting is a playable, pure-born Dragon race. :\ Yes the half dragon / half humanoid races seem cool, but it's not the intention of this request. Edit: Found a neat Wyvern picture by Eldeen91 XD http://www.deviantart.com/download/139709531/Wyvern_by_Eldeen91.jpg

Yeah I considered the fact that dragons don't have hands to hold weapons, but neither did the wolves in Werewolf: The Awakening, or the Wolves in the Terrain Vampires mods, but they were actually given their natural attack animations in place of having swords and shields, it's awesome what the modders for those two mods have done and I figure modding a playable Dragon Race could run a similar course. >_< Edit: I was never big on the whole half dragon, half humanoid races. The dividing line between pure-born Dragons and the rest of the races seems incredibly large and for that one reason I'd like to have the chance to play as one, in a game where they've been given so much out of the box compared other games like I of the Dragon. (These Dragons can actually land on the ground =O!)

With a lot of the assets for Dragons being implemented already, it seems like it should be doable, kindof like Werewolf: The awakening, where the player can transform into a large, four legged wolf. Again though, I'm not as familiar as I'd like to be with the construction set so feel free to enlighten me on the limitations of this >_< Edit: This also reminds me of the Terran Vampire mod, which had a spell to change the player into a swarm of bats. Fascinating use of available assets to say the least, but I figure the possibility exists for Dragons, assuming that this Construction Set has more than Oblivion's

I think the dragons have been given so much detail in this game and I was wondering if anyone was working on adding the race of Dragons as a playable race. I'm not sure when the Construction Set is getting released for Skyrim and I'm very new to modding things, even though I tried off and on during the Oblivion days, so I figured I'd see if anyone else out there was planning, or is working on making this happen. I'll try to outline and update what I'm thinking of in this post to the best of my ability and include what other ideas people might have on a playable, true-born Dragon race. A lot of the mechanics that I'm thinking about for this mod can be seen in mods like Werewolf: The Awakening and the Terrain Vampires mod, which had a few animalistic abilities, like natural(default) attack animations for wolves, increasing and learning new skills/spells as the player gains experience through spellcasting/fighting as a wolf, inability to use doors, etc etc. The only thing I can think of lore-wise for Dragons having a human form, is due to magic/words of power, that they use to move about incognito through the towns, communicating with people and what not. It doesn't really imply a specific skin or humanoid race so that could really circumvent this problem about going into towns and dungeons as a massive Dragon. I'm hoping a modder can have the player wake up in a large outdoor cave somewhere in the mountains if they choose to play as a dragon. An example would be, ***Player goes through a new game until he reaches the character customization screen.**** ***If player chooses a Dragon, then after the customization is finalized, the game fades out from the Dragonborn's point of view and fades in to a Dragon's point of view somewhere in an outdoor cave in the mountains.**** (A message box could also pop up after the character creation, asking if the player would like to be a Dragon. The player could choose, at this point, what type of Dragon they'd like to play as from here)
